Amazon seem to dispatch before release date and give an early delivery date and then hold back the delivery until release day. Same thing happened to me. Told me it would be delivered yesterday then arrived today.

When a company says they will deliver an item on a certain day or certain time (if possible) I’ll wait in for it to arrive. Bit dissapointing when it doesn’t arrive when you’ve waited in for it though. So I’m not sure when they give you these arrival dates if there only Estimates.

Probably already been asked and answered.. But will they release series 13 as a box set? (all flux and extras plus eve, legend and power with extras) Or just flux and 2 specials 1 special separate?

I have just heard that all episodes from 2023 will be shown on BBC in the UK but only available exclusively via streaming on Disney+ in the rest of the world. It’s a new deal between the BBC and Disney. I am wondering how this will effect Blu-ray releases of the new series. Disney+ don’t usually allow exclusive shows to be released on physical media.

can’t see it changing for the UK, they are just the overseas distributor.

as far as other releases go can’t say

    • The Time Lord 1944

      October 25th, 2022 - 11:28pm

The problem is the official press release says the show will be seen exclusively on the BBC in the UK and exclusively on Disney + everywhere else. That usually means no physical media release, such as with The Mandalorean and Obi Wan series. If Disney+ has exclusivity of any kind they usually block physical media releases.

      October 26th, 2022 - 3:35am

Disney plus have allowed the Beatles get back documentary to be released on blu ray plus the marvel and Pixar movies still get a physical release. Disney plus are only the distributors. Bbc still retains ownership so physical releases shouldn’t be affected

    • The Time Lord 1944

      October 27th, 2022 - 12:22pm

A new press release today seems to confirm my fears. Disney stressing it’s exclusivity to Disney+. Physical media releases in the UK will undermine that exclusivity. I wonder if someone on here with the right connections could try and find out. Disney are also getting some creative control over new seasons.

    • Gordon

      October 27th, 2022 - 10:18pm

The Beatles get back was a Disney plus streaming exclusive but got a physical release. The walking dead is a Disney plus streaming exclusive but it still gets a digital release to purchase and also gets a physical release. The mcu and Pixar movies are advertised as streaming exclusive but they get physical releases. New Doctor who episodes have been advertised as being only available to stream on iPlayer for years. That hasn’t stopped releases available physically after. Being advertised as a streaming exclusive does not mean it won’t be available to buy physically. Physical medial isn’t streaming. So a physical release won’t undermine that

    • Gareth Pugh

      October 30th, 2022 - 10:50am

It is just conceivable that – maybe – the terms of the distribution-deal with Disney+ to be the non-UK distributor could possibly say something about physical releases – or not having any – for territories outside the UK. Maybe, we don’t know. But I would be very surprised if BBC Studios will have agreed to also stop physical releases in the UK, as some kind of sweetener to Disney+. Physical availability in the UK won’t (much) harm Disney+ in the territories where they (and not the Beeb) distribute Who. It’s just possible that (say) American or Australian fans might need to check they have a region-free player, and pay to order their future NuWho sets from the UK. But we just don’t know yet.

Gotta be honest here and say I’m reading alot of…….nonsense and assumptions.

ALL the MCU movies have dvd/blu/4k. All major disney movies have dvd/blu/4k. Modern family and others had uk dvd.

There is no basis that disney would ban the BBC selling blu rays. Dr who blu rays are a strong and solid revenue source.

Contrary to the assumptions, the BBC remain the majority own, NOT Russell t Davies, NOT bad wolf productions and NOT disney. This is a FOREIGN DISTRIBUTOR AGREEMENT OUTSIDE THE UK.

fake news like this is what causes so much toxic fan frenzy. Why on earth would the BBC, RTD agree to something that restricts uk merchandise sales whilst opening up the world market. RTD era 1 showed a MERCHANDISE BOOM that fans have missed since 2010 when the BBC suddenly decided there was no money in it.

THIS IS A GOOD THING AND DOCTOR WHO WILL BE BIGGER AND BETTER THEN EVER BEFORE!!!!

To start with Doctor Who is not a movie, Its a series which Disney generally do not physically release.

Many visitors are from overseas here, from the USA and Australia, this site is full of collectors who therefore might worry what this tie up may mean for them so they are going to speculate without official word.

Just watched that last one again on my steel, which came this morning, a very catchy fast paced episode.
Interesting to see that it includes out takes.
But im not spoiling the fun, just yet cos others are still to get theirs. It was worth the pre order though.
Dvd and blu are still on the way.

This may sound silly to younger fans but if I can’t own new episodes for myself after collecting who on physical media since 1986 (VHS, DVD, bluray) then as a collector, what is the point? The BBC and Russell would have to be insane to lock themselves into a deal which limits the physical media releases. If however doctor who became streaming only then that would kill the show for me.

My interest has waned. I’ve not preordered the latest collection set, and I think I was only buying the other ones for the extras and FOMO (since they were limited). I’ve not even opened all of them, which surprised me somewhat. I wanted the Night of the Doctor 8th figure, but even with the online ordering I can’t muster the enthusiasm to buy the B&M set. I keep finding reasons to avoid the Zavvi Fourth Doc figure, and other merchandise I would have dreamed of owning as a kid. So I’m starting to realise it’s time to join eBay and let my collection go – fortunately it’s not huge, but I need to pull my finger out and start listing.

      I’ll never outgrow Doctor Who.

Yes, I have been disappointed by this Era of the programme due to the writing, but I haven’t bought any of this Era on Blu-ray due to how bare bones the releases are. All episodes are on the iPlayer and have some recorded so there’s no need to own them as yet.

I have high hopes for the RTD2 Era though and I’m looking forward to seeing Ace back in POTD.

      October 19th, 2022 - 11:53am

Have always been a classic Who person myself, wasn’t mad keen on RTD, but was ok – Moffatts stuff had good and bad (think he peaked on the 50th Anniversary) and find the Chibnal era thoroughly wretched.

    • Anomie

      October 19th, 2022 - 1:02pm

Love classic and love new. Moffat was brilliant, chibnall has been great, Davies I found too saccharine at times

    • Robert Sienicki

      October 23rd, 2022 - 9:02am

No. This era might not be for me, but I still love the Classic Who and RTD/Moffat seasons and I’ve been revisiting it many times by now. “Doctor Who” is a show that keeps reinventing itself, so I just hope the next era in the show will be more up to my liking, but it now then there are still more than 30 seasons I still cherish.

    • Mark Moxham

      October 24th, 2022 - 11:00am

Definitely. I am so glad the Chibnall era is over. The way he tells stories just doesn’t work for me. The pacing never lets up and nor does the music, there’s never time for anything to just breathe and develop any atmosphere. And characters are woefully undeveloped – including the 13th Doctor, who could have been so, so much better. ‘Power of the Doctor’ was another example of this.
I’ve just been watching Collection Season 14. Granted, they didn’t have the budgets or effects of today – but those episodes are far superior as pieces of drama. Watching the extensive interviews with Philip Hinchcliffe, who got so much right in his era, I wonder what on earth he makes of the mess of today.
The Chibnall era is over – thank goodness. Here’s to the next.

I felt the same when Colin Baker was indiscriminately sacked and their was the loom of the axe during all the turmoil in the mid 1980s. I was in my mid teens and i found it was a perfect parting of the ways at that point as i was getting into different things and i was starting college and work commitments took over etc…
Initially I never took to Sylvester Mccoys doctor anyway and called it a day, just dipping in occasionally with the odd episodes but nostalgia always drags you back. When the DVD range first started in 1999 I was drawn back in again and started rebuying all the old VHS tapes i used to own but then lost interest again after a while thinking the series might never return.
When the Series returned in 2005 it reignited my passion again. The show was a breath of fresh air and it was recieving the sort of accolades it never did before. Its only recently since Chris Chibnall took over that i,ve started to feel the disinterest setting back in, not just myself but feeling this apathy from the general public and the severe drop in ratings. The quality of writing has really gone downhill for the most part which is a real shame as Jodie was just starting to come into her own before her departure. If there had been quality writers it might have worked but the decline started long before she came on board.
I,m praying RTD can turn things around. He needs to bring in those seasoned writers who know how to make a story work like Steven Moffatt or Rob Shearman and good directors like Graeme Harper.
I,m feeling a tinge of excitement with Russell returning to the fold and the 60th just around the corner, I just hope the public feels the same way as us dedicated fans.

@the ergon – Fascinating read. Somehow it really interests me reading into how Doctor Who intwines with fan’s personal careers and passions.

I will admit right now that unfortunately I’ve felt exactly the same.

I got into Doctor Who at 11 years old, 2005, Series One, and loved the RTD1 era throughout.

Couldn’t stand the Steven Moffat era (adore the cast though, and one or two stories that Moffat himself didn’t write)

Chris Chibnall era – again, couldn’t stand it, but wanted to give it a chance – and in 2020, after the Timeless Child, I officially packed it in with New Who. It also got too embarrassing to have to explain what was going on with the plots to friends and family all the time too.

Since Lockdown however… I decided to watch through ALL of Classic Doctor Who. Starting with Season 1, 1963. Finished earlier this year with The Tv Movie. I can hand on heart say, that I’ve discovered many of the very best moments in all of Doctor Who, within the Classic era, and I feel so much better for it, thanks to the actual quality, traditions, and genuine talent in the show for that 33 years.

Purely based on how extremely rewatchable Classic Who is, I’m good to continue ordering The Collection boxsets. However unlikely, should Disney interfere with the sets, and RTD is forced to row back on his Tweet that appeared to confirm The Collection wouldn’t be screwed with by upper management, then in that unique circumstance I would happily call it quits with all Doctor Who merch, and look online for second hand dvds to fill the gaps.

It’s that simple really. I don’t believe in aggro. If you no longer believe in something, just walk away.

However, the one thing that’s frustrating is, we’ll now have only one episode of Jodie’s run that’s not in any steelbook sets – Revolution of the Daleks – and I can’t imagine it will be any time soon, given it’s got Captain Jack in it.

Que the usual un-informed complaining about the price* SIGH.

    1) The Physical Media market is a collector market – PM does not sell anywhere near what it did even 5 years ago.
    2) This is a Steelbook – a top end product of a market already aimed at collectors.
    3) This is a pre-order price and will no doubt go down £5 to £10 upon release.
    4) Inflation – i’m guessing some haven’t been paying attention to the news recently.

As is, with the above context, it’s what you’d expect to pay in the current market. If you can’t afford it or think it’s too expensive, simple. Don’t. Buy. It.

But remember this, when these things are no longer produced because they don’t sell enough – when the day comes that the show itself is cancelled because it doesn’t make as much money as it used to, just remember you helped contribute to that by not supporting these things and making irrational claims about the prices.

Thats contradictory. you are saying to people if can,t afford don,t buy it but how can they ‘contribute’ if they don,t always have the money to do so.

You watch… when the day comes that they stop producing dvds for Who, the people moaning about it will be the same people who are moaning about the prices now, the same people who don’t buy them. It’s the same thing with all Who merchandise. Why don’t we have much merch now? Cos people didn’t buy it.

If you can’t afford them, that’s fine. That’s the nature of the market. But don’t moan about them being too expensive when, given all the above listed context, they blatantly are not.

I have a friend upset that the animations have been cancelled, even though they didn’t purchase a single one of them… it’s like “well bruv… maybe if you had supported them by, i dunno, buying them, then maybe they would have continued”.

Shrugs Shoulders* it’s not rocket science.

Fans are so quick to complain about what we get that they miss that who fans are incredibly spoilt compared to other series. I buy what I can afford so it will be the DVD for me. It annoys me that so many fans seem to want everything for nothing!

I can afford it, but I don’t want it because the content doesn’t justify it. I’d prefer a standard blu-ray with all three specials. Also, I don’t have any of the new series as steel book editions, so it’s a bit late to start!

I’d be surprised if it stays at this price for release. Even the abominable snowmen was cheaper when released than its initial price

The whole point of the dvd/steel books is to own the items. The more fans who only want to watch it for free instead of buying the episodes and generating money from the show only means the BBC will be less likely to put more money into the show. The animations being s good example.

@Anon, agreed. I sell on my DVDs (had them all) once I’ve got the Collection sets, but will happily keep the steelbooks no matter how many copies I have of the story. I’ve got both steelbooks of the Cushing films and they’re not leaving me any time soon.

Shame this doesn’t include Revolution of the Daleks, makes it awkward just having one special by its self on my shelf lol

I’m holding back until they release Revolution, Flux & the Specials as a Boxset: 10 Episodes with Special Features. I can see a DVD title ‘Season 13 Flux & The Specials’ on the horizon…

While I really hope you are right I’m not sure now. I missed out on the Flux Steelbook waiting for something like that but regret that decision now. I do think it’s a pain there’s no release that includes Revolution of the Daleks but I’d be surprised if we saw a complete set now considering most fans will have brought Flux already.

I think they will most likely release a complete jodie whittaker years box set like they have done for previous doctors but its a shame they are only released in america

The previous steelbook would have been the right place to put “Revolution” on, but I was also hoping of seeing it here as an amendment…but I guess they just don’t care. At least “Twice upon a time” had the excuse of being made by a different production team than the following series…this is just plain inexcusable :(. A collection that misses one episode…

might come down yet you never know but yes everything is going up and something’s a lot

Hopefully things will get sorted as there are a lot of high priced items being announced that may suffer poor sales otherwise.

    • Moodbeam

      September 6th, 2022 - 1:39pm

These items are always priced the same, no matter the content. That to me shows that most of the costs come from producing and manufacturing the items than the content itself (which in effect is free; the content wasn’t created to build a revenue from sales, it’s made for the BBC to air). I think that’s why they’re always about the same price no matter the content.
