Doctor Who The Power of the Daleks 2nd Audio CD

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk and www.forbiddenplanet.com

Nicholas Briggs read an epic novelisation of the Second Doctor’s debut TV adventure.

Disoriented after his regeneration, the Doctor takes the TARDIS to the Earth colony Vulcan. Ben and Polly are disturbed – the Doctor isn’t the man he used to be. The Doctor, too, is worried. The colonists have found the remains of two Daleks, which they plan to revive!

Once reanimated, the Daleks claim that they are content to serve humanity. Can it really be true? Or do they have their own, more sinister plans?

Nicholas Briggs, who is the voice of the Daleks in Doctor Who, reads John Peel’s novelisation of the original 1966 TV serial by David Whitaker.

Love this book. Remember picking up the original at WHSmiths with my birthday money along with The Dalek Chronicles.

Curiously, the first John Peel knew about this was when I posted the cover ( Amazon link ) on my facebook timeline on Wednesday evening this week… I’ve known about it since 11th November last year and have remained tight-lipped – only to hear that Mr Briggs had been blabbing his mouth off at some recent Big Finish Day event.

It would be great if they re-released the whole range with the new logo for a bit of consistency. The new logo covers are great!

Pretty sure they all have reversible covers to show the 1970 logo

That’s not what they were saying, yes you can display the range with the 1970 logo but they were saying displaying the range in the 2018 logo, which honestly I agree with them, the 2018 template is the best template of the range.

I think it’s a shame that the devine Anneke Wills isn’t reading this – that’s how I feel!

Cover is a mix of elements from the original book cover with additions – dalek capsule and bigger tardis. Always did like the artwork and just made it even better.

Not just a bigger TARDIS, a TARDIS actually sourced from the story as opposed to an edited version sourced from the Seeds of Doom. I feel this change is for the better because the image is very nice.

    Perfect never-seen-before cover.
    Perfect narrator.
Hoping this mostly unnecessary range which I have bought every one is finally ending on this perfect high note.

Why is it an unnecessary range? Audio books are a very popular commodity, for blind people, people who have trouble sleeping, and for people who have difficulty concentrating when reading books and find it easier to listen instead.

The Time Monster and Warriors Of The Deep have also been confirmed for next year, so the range won’t end with Power. There’s still quite a large handful to come including Silver Nemesis, Destiny Of The Daleks, The Celestial Toymaker, Planet Of Evil and several more.

Plus there are ones that weren’t televised, such as Colin Baker’s The Nightmare Fair, Mission To Magnus and The Ultimate Evil which were published under the Target banner. And Slipback, The Pescatons. Maybe these non televised won’t get done, but I think the range stands a good chance of still going until 2024 if they’re going to do them all.

There are loads of really good Dr Who stories still to be released on audio. This is far from an unnecessary range. Keep going! Loch Ness Monster please!! Long overdue for release.

I thought the range was a bit of a cash cow at the beginning, but then I snagged the first box set cheap in a sale and haven’t looked back since. The best of them are wonderfully produced and provide an intimate alternative to TV episodes that, in my case, have been watched over and over.

Currently listening to Terminus the second time and am looking forward to The Time Monster very much.

Is this an original cover? It certainly wasn’t used as of the cover of the novel I have.

The cover is a composite of elements from the original 1992 book cover painting and a new/abandoned painting – elements of which ( the hat, the capsule, etc., ) were ‘salvaged’ – all blended together with various purely-digital elements.

I saw 2nd Audio and thought they had split this, like masterplan. Also interesting the Download ( penguin books website) the CD is 520 mins while the Download is only 480 mins.

I imagine this is 6 discs. I hope it is Unabridged and the timings above are not meant the opposite way.

Lovely surprise as I thought the Target Books list was sorted for 2022. Lets hope both download and CD are the same length

Given this, there is presumably no reason why the book could not be reprinted? For those of us who would rather read it and haven’t got money to burn?

Trouble with Nick Briggs narrative is once he starts talking it’s narcoleptic and you have to start again.

      It’s called a stovepipe hat.
I wish we still had a surviving episode where he’d worn it.

To judge from this cover, it’s almost as big as the TARDIS’ outer shell! I wonder how he gets it through the door…

At last. I was really hoping this would happen and it has! Brilliant cover as well.
