Character Options details its eagerly awaited Doctor Who Collect & Build Set 3.
2026 has seen the reimagiation of Character Options’ Collect & Build series for its iconic Doctor Who Figures. After the rapid sell out of the debut and subsequent 2nd installment, the team is pleased to confirm details of the 3rd in the series and information on how to purchase.
The 5-piece ‘Vortex Edition’ Third Doctor Season Seven Set (1970) with Liz Shaw and Primord will be available in the next few days, exclusively online via www.character-online.com.
This limited-edition Doctor Who Collect & Build “Vortex” set is the third of five launches this year. Each pack includes one or more ‘Vortex’ figures, plus a crucial part of the Collect & Build ‘Yeti’ figure, the right arm. This latest piece forms an essential part of the extraordinary Abominable Snowman figure that can be completed when all five sets have been collected.
About the Figures in the Set
This set includes both a Liz Shaw and Professor Stahlman as ‘Primord’ figure. Dr Elizabeth “Liz” Shaw was with the Third Doctor for a relatively short period of time and first met him when he was exiled to Earth in the 20th century. Together they worked for UNIT, under the Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, and faced many threats, both personal and to the safety of mankind.

Although initially somewhat sceptical of UNIT’s purpose, Liz soon embraced the team and became embroiled in several of the Doctor’s adventures. She came across many foes, including the Nestene-Consciousness with its Auton forces, Silurians, benevolent aliens from deep space and, found out there was even an alternate version of herself on a parallel Earth! She eventually left UNIT to return to academia but was later reunited several times with the Doctor for yet more adventures.
The Liz Shaw figure in this set, is as she was seen in “The Silurians” wearing a bright red dress with copper accent belt, black knee length boots and hair tied back with a brown ribbon. Her figure comes with the ‘Primord’ figure version of Professor Stahlman. The head of Project Inferno, Stahlman was the lead scientist who became infected with a primordial ooze which slowly mutated him into a slavering aggressive ‘Primord’. This figure represents Professor Stahlman fully transformed but still in his white lab coat, tweed suit and waistcoat.
In addition to the Collect & Build piece, two further accessories are included in the set – a Large transparent Auton Energy Sphere from ‘Spearhead from Space 1970’ and the Doctors blue Metebelis Crystal, first seen in ‘The Green Death 1973’.
Al Dewar, Creative Director, Character Options, said: “Firstly I have to say there is always one figure each year that I think is an absolute belter and very quickly zooms to the top of my most liked pile. This year that figure is (by a long way)the Liz Shaw figure. There’s always one that’s just works and one that’s an absolute beast of a struggle … this is 100% the former. I think it turned out better than we could have ever hoped, and really for me, Andrew Teal’s sculpt truly captures the beauty of Caroline John and the essence of Liz Shaw.
“As many collectors are aware, after its future release was leaked online, we cancelled this figure. That original model was arguably a more basic iteration, and I always felt it didn’t quite capture or do justice to Caroline’s John’s beauty as well as it could. Fast forward to when it was time to return to look at Liz Shaw as part of the Collect & Build range, and I’m delighted we went with an all new Liz Shaw sculpt.
“Accompanying Liz on her adventures, although from a different story entirely, is the misguided Professor Stahlman from my favourite Season 7 story INFERNO. Stahlman is a True Third Doctor foe, a brilliant scientist whose egomania gets in the way of common sense and in this case ends up as a slavering growling ‘Primord’. So, to have the Primord sculpted by Ed Barnet-Ward as a figure to accompany the new Liz Shaw figure is hugely satisfying.
“Shall we talk Yeti’s? … So up until now your Collect & Build Yeti has been mostly … ‘armless’ (Dad joke) but hopefully with the head and torso now already in place, you should be able to see the scale of this figure which you have been gradually building! Once this first arm is attached, the articulation of the hands and arms will begin to give you a better sense of the pose-ability and fun you’ll be able to have once fully built. My only advice is …‘Don’t madden it!’’
This Collect & Build set will be available to purchasers of Set two on – we need to finalise these details and exact wording please . It will be exclusively available from www.character-online.co.uk and costs just £44.99 .
For more information on upcoming Collect & Build sets, visit www.character-online.co.uk. To ensure fans have the opportunity to complete their collections, customers purchasing previous sets will receive pre-launch alert emails and a link to early access sale. Early access will be limited to accounts with a purchase history, and customers will be able to purchase up to three sets each.
About the Abominable Snowman figure – This pack comes with the third key part of the ‘Collect & Build’ ‘Abominable Snowman’ (1967) figure: the Yeti’s right arm. This can be assembled with the head from the first set and torso from the 2nd – with just two pieces of the Yeti to come, the assembly is almost complete!

September 14th, 2026 - 10:39amHow does the early access work. If I’d bought the First Cyberman set but didn’t buy the last 15th Doctor Set would I still get early access or do you have to buy every set to carry on getting early access?

September 14th, 2026 - 3:51pmNo, it follows in Order: If you purchased Set 2 then you have only have early access to Set 3. I purchased the Set 1 on a different account & it doesn’t offer early access to Set 3. Obviously my secondary account had Set 2 purchased, so gave me early access to Set 3.

September 8th, 2026 - 2:28pmWOW
I’m looking at these and just loving that I can own action figures from a cheep BBC British sci-fi show. Figures that are from episodes shown 56 years ago and to the majority wouldn’t have a clue what or who these characters are.
To me I can’t wait to get these because I know who they are and still repeat watch those episodes.
Thank you to all of you who support this figure line and for keeping these deep dive packs being produced

And in 1980, I saw one in Dr Who magazine….thought it was a Tharil at first…

I own the target Inferno book, as I collected the books in my childhood and still have them now. Those I kept but unfortunately the Dr who weekly and monthly comics I collected as a child are lost to time, I can’t remember what happened to them.
Hopefully with the success of this wave we might get a Tharil someday. Warriors gate what a good story.

September 8th, 2026 - 3:51pmWarriors Gate is now one of my favourite stories…the slavers were just ordinary people, moaning about bonuses, hard work and inferior technology that never works..
At the time though I wasn’t into it much…not having a video recorder in 1981, much of it seemed incomprehensible back then…

September 4th, 2026 - 10:42amI honestly don’t understand why people complain they don’t seem to realize it’s because of the b&m set sales these are even a thing 45 is not for a a collector set and you can easily sell what you don’t want on so it just comes down to laziness and people who don’t understand the process and cost it takes to make a figure I don’t care if it’s a reused figure with a new head because it’s better than nothing and opens the door for other variants later on I’ll be buying a few of this set
War Chief.
September 4th, 2026 - 10:58amI don’t know how to sell stuff….
And I’ll be frank, I wouldn’t have bought the Cybermen and 15th Doctor were it not for the Yeti parts…
Even the coming 4th Doctor, I’ll probably only buy because it comes with half a Yeti…
But I’m very happy with this Primord…I don’t care what it looks like…!

September 4th, 2026 - 11:22am20 years ago I walked through the doors of Toys R Us and heard the booming sound of the Nu Who theme by Murray Gold belt belting out, in front of me was a massive display with Dave Tennant’s face up high and all the toys surrounding him.
Toys R Us, Woolworths, Index have gone. The two biggest toy stores in the UK Smyths and the Entertainer don’t stock Who merchandise. The last series of Who was not popular amongst core fans and younger fans move on to other interests in life.
Oil is expensive, so is freight and the US tariffs are another problem.
For a 60 year old TV show that isn’t as mainstream as Star Trek or Star Wars, Who does well in the current market.
B&M have had profit warnings over the past two years and have their own challenges, so I expect they are asking for better margins, hence repaints only and fewer releases.
Now we get a chance to have figures that aren’t repaints and are new, rather than Daleks, Tardis and Doctors. Character Options are a profit making company listed on the stock exchange that pay dividends to share holders from profits. As long as the online exclusives sell out, I suspect that will continue.
Just some reality about plastic space dollies

September 4th, 2026 - 12:47pmWar chief it’s so easy to sell on eBay now you don’t need a printer or anything just a phone and a post office you can send using a QR code now so it’s prints out at the post office and it already paid for with tracking the fact they jump up in value is the reason I don’t mind paying £45 a set as like yourself certain people will only want certain parts of the set you can even make the money back and still keep what you want so I see it as more of an investment

September 5th, 2026 - 1:14pmI don’t mean to be rude, Nath, but I think your comment comes across as rather out of touch. Nobody here is complaining because they don’t understand the cost or process of producing figures, and dismissing legitimate criticism as “laziness” is rather presumptuous. Fifteen years ago, two-packs like this were selling on Forbidden Planet for around £24.99; today we’re being asked for £44.99 for sets which, in most cases, make extensive use of existing tooling. Liz Shaw is largely assembled from previously released parts which were used for Jo Grant, while the Primord makes use of tooling from Dr. Constantine. At that price, I think we’re perfectly entitled to question the value we’re being offered. The problem is compounded by the fact that this is a Build-a-Figure wave, meaning Classic Series collectors who actually want the Yeti have little practical choice but to buy sets containing characters they otherwise wouldn’t necessarily purchase. That’s a perfectly legitimate criticism of the way the wave has been structured.
And “just sell what you don’t want” is considerably easier said than done. Once you’ve opened a £44.99 set, removed the Yeti component and are then trying to sell the remaining figures, you’re selling an incomplete set and will inevitably have to accept less for it. Not everyone has the time, confidence, experience or inclination to deal with eBay, postage, buyers and all the rest of it. I personally bought the “Dark Water,” and “Lux” sets despite having no interest in those particular figures, solely because I want the Yeti, and I’ll then have to go through the hassle of selling them. That isn’t laziness; it’s an entirely reasonable objection to a collecting strategy which deliberately ties a desirable Classic Series figure to a mixture of unrelated releases. If Character Options wanted to make a Build-a-Figure wave, there was nothing stopping them making it a genuinely coherent Classic Series wave; use some sensible repaints and reused tooling, add the occasional new sculpt where justified, and build towards a Classic monster. And either a New Series, or Disney Series wave could just as easily have done the same for a New Series, or Disney Series Build-a-Figure.
And that’s why I think the “better than nothing” argument misses the point. The Wirrn is a genuinely exciting release because it’s an entirely new sculpt which completes the Season 12 line up; that’s the sort of thing that makes £44.99 feel substantially easier to justify. The problem is that much of the rest of this wave doesn’t offer anything remotely comparable. The Fourth Doctor set is essentially another variation on a figure we’ve seen repeatedly, while the Season Seven set could have been so much more compelling if Character Options had invested in a new Silurian sculpt to accompany that variant of Liz. The fact that they’re prepared to invest in completely new tooling for characters such as Mr Ring-a-Ding and Dugga-Doo demonstrates that new tooling isn’t impossible when they consider a character worth doing. So, I’m not criticising Character Options because I don’t understand the economics; I’m criticising them because I think they’ve chosen to structure this particular wave in a way that maximises the number of sets collectors have to buy to obtain the one figure they actually want. There’s a rather important difference between being grateful that a figure exists and believing that the route they’ve taken to release it is beyond criticism.
I think the clearest evidence of this is how quickly these sets have sold. The “Dark Water” set would certainly have sold relatively quickly anyway, due to the popularity of their design, but nowhere near as quickly without the Yeti component. The “Lux” set, on the other hand, would almost certainly have taken considerably longer given how poorly received the Disney Series of the programme has been received. And, as much as it pains me to say this as a Classic Series fan, I suspect the “Season Seven” set would also have taken time to sell without the Yeti incentive. Liz is well liked, but she only appeared for one season, and although this is an iconic costume for her, the Primord isn’t from the story in which she wears it. A brand new Silurian would have made far more sense. Furthermore, using the Dr. Constantine tooling for the Primord rather than the more articulated Prof. Bracewell tooling is another odd choice. Then there’s the Fourth Doctor set, where, if they charge £44.99 for a single figure which features minor retooling and a modest repaint, that would be incredibly cheeky. The Wirrn is really the only set where I think £44.99 can be justified, because it’s a completely new sculpt of a long requested monster, much like the Yeti. That’s why I think Character Options have been rather crafty with this wave; without the Yeti components, these sets simply wouldn’t be selling at anything like the rate they are. Collectors, particularly those of us interested in sixties Doctor Who content, are potentially spending £44.99 five times over simply to obtain one figure they actually want. Character Options deserve credit for making the Yeti, and I’ll concede that using it to tie together otherwise disparate sets is an effective sales strategy, but that doesn’t make said strategy reasonable. In fact, I’d call it quite crafty, and clearly, I’m not the only one who feels that way, so it’s not unreasonable for some fans to call that out.
Nath
September 7th, 2026 - 10:51amWell as I said I save up money for the sets and sell what I don’t want on when the item sells out it instantly doubles a yeti part is about 30-40 so paying 45 isnt that crazy I’m more than happy to explain how to sell these parts you don’t want in a set I’ve never had any trouble doing so and I can only get to the post office on a Saturday I may come across out of touch but surely that’s the people who don’t research or teach themselves new things not having a go just surprised people struggle to do this my lifestyle I shouldn’t even be able to afford these sets
NickD
September 4th, 2026 - 6:51amOh l wow, I mean wow. Some of the comments. “Character forced me to buy these”. No, no they did not. No one forces you to buy a toy and if someone genuinely thinks that they need to see a trained professional.
This set seems nice. I’m forgetting if we’ve ever had the Metebelis 3 crystal before. Either way it’s Characters way of adding value to the product. They will be trying to equalize out the plastic so there is roughly X amount for each release. I would imagine they went with this look for Liz as it’s not really too story specific and can be a generic figure. The characters design from the show they likely consider too limiting for reuse. The Auton crystal I imagine they use to add to the Third Doctors era for accessories. I don’t begrudge it, nor am I buying it. It’s exactly what I was expecting – lots of reuse for budgeting costs. If they built all new tooling for every set the price would probably have to be 50% mite at the very least. They likely included the latest (well officially latest) Doctor as per licensing reasons. It will likely mostly sell well for the people wanting to build the Yeti. However there are Fifteenth Doctor fans and collectors out there. All in all a good solid uninspiring set. An easy pass for myself as I’m not a completist and also at this rate it’ll take CO a hundred years to do at least “most” of the companions.
“May you like a long life Graf, but not that long.”

September 4th, 2026 - 3:32amI understand the restrictions and why they must reuse parts…but Stahlman’s outfit never looks anything like this……
Daniel
September 3rd, 2026 - 10:32pmI will be honest, whilst I am glad that we have got the New Series sets out of the way (I hate the New Series), this set is quite puzzling. Liz Shaw looks fantastic; I have no complaints with her figure at all. It looks like they have reused existing sculpts quite well to recreate the costume she wore in “Doctor Who and the Silurians,” and they have provided us with a head sculpt which has a strong likeness to Caroline John.
However, the Primord is a weird inclusion. It would have made more sense to me, and I think it would have been more appealing too, if Character Options had just dubbed this a “Doctor Who and the Silurians” set, and packaged Liz with a Silurian. We know that it can be done because most of the sculpt required to release a Silurian from “Doctor Who and the Silurians” already exists thanks to the “Warriors of the Deep” set which came out a couple of years ago.
And then there’s the Primord himself. Now, I can understand why Character Options have released this particular version of a Primord, that being the Primord Prof. Stahlman turns into, because it would have, of course, been much cheaper to produce than a Primord in their much more iconic space-age white uniforms.
Although, from the moment I saw the prototype of this set, I knew that the Primord would reuse Dr. Constantine’s sculpt; the similarities were too obvious, and I have seen lots of customs over the years which have followed the same formula. However, I am confused as to why they have used Dr. Constantine’s sculpt, and not Prof. Bracewell’s. Prof. Bracewell’s sculpt would have allowed for more articulation, very strange.
And then there is the accessories; why include a Nestine Control Sphere and the Metebelis Crystal when neither are featured in “Doctor Who and the Silurians,” or “Inferno?” Again, very strange. Do not get me wrong, I do not think this looks like a bad set, and I will happily buy it, unlike the last two sets which I bought begrudgingly just for the Yeti pieces. Although, I just feel like this is a set which missed an opportunity.

September 4th, 2026 - 9:35amThe two Silurians are not really interchangeable
War Chief
September 4th, 2026 - 1:15pmIndeed….a Jon Pertwee Silurian would mean a totally different sculpt from Warriors of the Deep…
No breastplate, ribbed bits etc…..stop me if i get technical…
Daniel
September 5th, 2026 - 12:14pmI think that’s a fair point regarding the tooling, and in hindsight I’ll happily hold my hands up and concede it. An onscreen accurate “Doctor Who and the Silurians” Silurian would probably require a completely new sculpt rather than simply a new head and torso, particularly if Character Options wanted to get the articulation and proportions right. So, I don’t disagree with that.
What I would put back to you, though, is this; if Character Options were prepared to invest in completely new tooling for Mr. Ring-a-Ding and Dugga-Doo, why couldn’t that investment have gone towards the original Silurian instead? I’m not suggesting a Silurian would have been cheaper or easier to produce. I’m asking why the choice was made to spend that tooling budget on two characters from “Lux,” when they could have produced one of the most recognisable monsters of the Pertwee era and paired it with a version of Liz Shaw specifically dressed for “Doctor Who and the Silurians.”
To me, that would have made vastly more sense as a set. Liz and the original Silurian would have complemented one another perfectly, and they could even have included a relevant accessory, such as the Silurian device used by the Doctor and Liz to gain access to the Silurian base. Instead, we’ve got a Control Sphere and a Metebelis Crystal, accessories which we have already seen before, and neither of which belongs to “Doctor Who and the Silurians” or “Inferno.” Granted, the Control Sphere is at least from Season Seven, but it isn’t from either story represented by the figures in this set, and the Metebelis crystal doesn’t belong to Season Seven at all.
And that’s really the crux of my argument. I’m not saying Character Options could have knocked out an accurate Silurian with minimal effort. I’m saying that if they were willing to spend the money and tooling on entirely new figures anyway, I would have much rather seen that investment go towards an iconic Classic Series monster with decades of history behind it, which could have been paired perfectly with the variant of Liz Shaw we are getting.
The fact that “Warriors of the Deep” Silurians didn’t sell particularly well doesn’t really change that for me either. Those are representations from a completely different story and design, whereas the original Silurian is the creature’s debut appearance and the version most closely associated with the Third Doctor. The Silurians have remained an important part of Doctor Who for decades; Mr. Ring-a-Ding and Dugga-Doo simply don’t have that same legacy.
So yes, I’ll concede the tooling argument, War Chief, you’re right. But I don’t think that concession undermines my original point; it actually makes my question slightly different. If Character Options was prepared to undertake new tooling for “Lux,” why wasn’t that effort spent on something which, overall, would have been considerably more valuable to the range and would have made this particular set far more cohesive?
War Chief
September 5th, 2026 - 1:18pmHave we had a Metebelis crystal before….? If so, it passed me by…
I would have been equally as happy with a Silurian, Ambassador or Primord from Jon Pertwee’s first season…
So i’m pleased with this set….
As for Mr Ringading…..he wasn’t on my wish list, but i do rather like the figure….!
Daniel
September 3rd, 2026 - 10:05pmScotel, actually, yes, I would; whilst I hate the New Series, I recognize that some more modern fans like it, and there are an abundance of figures we have not received from the likes of Series 7, 8, 9 and 10. I am sure that some of those fans would love to see a wave dedicated to those seasons with a New Series build-a-figure. Personally, I would have no interest in that at all, but at least then I would not feel obliged to purchase any of the sets because I would have no interest in said build-a-figure.
If the build-a-figure is going to be a Classic Series monster, I think the wave the should have went hand in hand with that; as a fan of the Classic Series, I several others should not be burdened with having to spend £90 on two sets just to get the Yeti the pieces. Character Options would be wise to tailor wave releases such as this to particular demographics among their consumers because it is not fair for Classic Series fans who dislike (or in my case, hate) the New Series, and vice versa to have to spend money on sets they have to purchase, just a build-a-figure which one set of fans want more than the others.
Phamb72, that is a silly comment because it should be painfully obvious that Character Options forced me and several other fans to buy the New Series sets because without them, I would run the risk of never being able to complete the Yeti.
I will be honest, whilst I am glad that we have got the New Series sets out of the way (I hate the New Series), this set is quite puzzling. Liz Shaw looks fantastic; I have no complaints with her figure at all. It looks like they have reused existing sculpts quite well to recreate the costume she wore in “Doctor Who and the Silurians,” and they have provided us with a head sculpt which has a strong likeness to Caroline John.

Weirdly, Character Options were open to sculpting the likes of Dugga Doo and Mr. Ring-a-Ding from “Lux;” two brand new figures from an episode, and era of the show, we would all rather forget, rather than sculpting a new pair of feet and hands, as well as a head and torso for a Silurian from their first appearance in the show, which would have been the perfect figure to package with this particular variant of Liz.

September 4th, 2026 - 1:35pmDaniel the accessories don’t have to be from these figures. There is no law that says they have to be. The metabelis crystal is there to go with the jon pertwee green death set. The nestene sphere goes with the original autons. They serve a purpose they aren’t just random choices.

September 4th, 2026 - 7:26pmOh I think you underestimate the level of fan popularity of the episode Lux amongst the broader-church fan community. On various outlets I’ve seen many fans including plenty who generally were disappointed with the Fifteenth Doctor’s era single that out as a genuine classic. Mr Ring-a-Ding is a much-loved and truly sinister, original foe (and a right hoot!)

September 4th, 2026 - 11:24pmRegardless of your personal opinion on Lux it was well recieved by the wider community and even beyond (the song went viral on TikTok). Also given part of the purpose of the set is making sure the Fifteenth Docror has a “monster” to go with him he’s definitely one of the simpler ones to make (and Dugga-Doo was just a replacement for what would have been an accessory, better to have a creature than what would hsve probably been the Vindicator).
The Primord was prepared years ago, they will have had that sculpt ready and included it in the wave on the basis that it and Liz were effectively “ready to go” with minor tweaks. A Silurian is no simple job (and need I remind people who keep saying “they did the 1984 version” how long those sat on the Character website for)

September 5th, 2026 - 12:05pmScotel, I think you’re missing the point I was making rather spectacularly here.
Whether “Lux” was well received or not is largely irrelevant to my argument. I’m not disputing that there are people who enjoyed it, nor whether that awful Interstellar Song went viral on TikTok. My point is that neither of those things gives Mr. Ring-a-Ding and Dugga-Doo any particular significance within the wider history of Doctor Who. TikTok virality isn’t the same thing as lasting relevance to the franchise; trends come and go, whereas characters such as the Silurians have been part of Doctor Who’s identity for over fifty years.
And if Dugga-Doo really was simply replacing what would otherwise have been an accessory, that doesn’t exactly strengthen the argument. Character Options still chose to spend the tooling budget on creating an entirely new creature from “Lux.” My question is why that effort couldn’t instead have gone towards something from the Classic Series with considerably greater historical significance and which, in my opinion, would have complemented Liz Shaw far better.
As for the 1984 Silurians, I’ll happily concede that a properly accurate Doctor Who and the Silurians Silurian would probably require considerably more new tooling than I initially suggested; potentially new arms and legs, not merely the hands, head, feet and torso. Fair enough. But I think you’re conflating two very different things. The fact that the “Warriors of the Deep” figures apparently sat on the Character Options website for a while doesn’t demonstrate that there isn’t demand for the original design. They’re from “Warriors of the Deep,” which is hardly one of the most beloved stories in the programme’s history, and they’re an iteration of the Silurians that is considerably less iconic than the original. The “Doctor Who and the Silurians” version would be irrefutably and substantially more desirable.
The Silurians are one of the defining monsters of the Third Doctor’s era. They’ve returned repeatedly over the decades and remain recognisable to the wider Doctor Who audience. Mr. Ring-a-Ding and Dugga-Doo, whatever one thinks of “Lux”, simply don’t occupy remotely the same position in the show’s history. That’s the distinction I’m making.
And this is why I find the choice particularly strange in the context of this specific set. We have Liz Shaw wearing a costume specifically associated with “Doctor Who and the Silurians.” Putting that version of Liz alongside a properly sculpted original Silurian would have produced a completely coherent set based around the same story. Instead, we’ve got Liz and a Primord, a monster which isn’t from that story, while Character Options has simultaneously demonstrated that it is willing to create entirely new figures for “Lux.”
I’m not saying a new Silurian would have been effortless or inexpensive. It clearly wouldn’t. I’m saying that if Character Options was prepared to invest in completely new tooling for Dugga-Doo and Mr. Ring-a-Ding, I personally would have preferred that investment to go towards one of the Classic Series’ most recognisable monsters.
That’s ultimately a matter of priorities. You clearly place more value on representing “Lux” and the Fifteenth Doctor’s era; I place considerably more value on filling longstanding Classic Series gaps. Neither of us has to agree with the other’s priorities, but I don’t think the fact that something went viral on TikTok is a particularly compelling argument against mine.
Daniel
September 5th, 2026 - 12:30pmGareth Pugh, I don’t think I’m underestimating “Lux” so much as questioning how highly it is being regarded. Yes, it has a following, but I would consider it average to decent at best. To me, it is a nugget of silver amidst a sea of otherwise very poor material across the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Doctor eras, which inevitably makes it look considerably better by comparison. Put “Lux” alongside a respectable Classic Series story such as “The Mask of Mandragora” or “Horror of Fang Rock,” and it doesn’t come close in terms of pacing, atmosphere, characterisation or overall quality. Calling it a ‘genuine classic,’ therefore, overstates its merits.
Likewise, I don’t dispute that Mr Ring-a-Ding is an original character, or that he may have been regarded as one of the limited successful characters introduced during the most recent Russell T Davies era, but “much loved” seems rather generous when we’re talking about a character from one relatively recent episode. The Silurians, by contrast, have been part of Doctor Who for over fifty years, have returned several times, and are one of the defining monsters of the Barry Letts era. Mr Ring-a-Ding has no comparable legacy, and I can’t see that legacy developing particularly far when he comes from an era which has ultimately left the programme on ice because of how poorly it has performed.
And that’s really the point I was making about the figures. I’m not saying nobody wants Mr Ring-a-Ding or Dugga-Doo; I’m asking why, if Character Options was prepared to invest in completely new tooling for two characters from “Lux”, that investment couldn’t instead have gone towards an original Silurian to accompany Liz Shaw. I’ve conceded that an accurate “Doctor Who and the Silurians” Silurian would require substantially more new tooling than I initially conveyed, but I’d still regard that as a far more worthwhile investment. Liz and the original Silurian would have made a much more cohesive set, and would have represented a far more significant part of Doctor Who’s history than two characters who may ultimately be little more than a footnote.

September 5th, 2026 - 2:28pmI’m getting the point loud and clear: you don’t like NuWho (and have a particular dislike for Ncuti Gatwa in particular). They were looking to do a Fifteenth Doctor era set and picked figures from the most popular stories. There are people who do not care at all about Classic Who and they need to be catered to as well and even among the Classic fans people were complaining that all three sets are 70s based, and here you are looking at one of the modern sets actually offering some diversity and saying “But what if it was Masque of Mandragora instead?”
Also to be clear on this: Dugga-Doo is not from Lux. They chose two figures and a bonus extra mini figure from three separate stories across the season and put them into one set. The Third Doctor set is exactly the same format: two figures and a bonus third extra mini with the Nestene “Thunderball” from three separate stories giving the whole season some representation rather than focusing in on one story. A Silurian would not work in that format.
Furthermore as I have explained previously: they have a finite budget to work with and the Liz and Primord figures had already been made a few years ago. These waves are budgeted around the constraints of what is already moulded, what is already sculpted and what needs to be completely fresh from the ground up.
It also had the benefit that because everything was effectively ready to go, it could be brought forward if something were to go wrong with one of the other sets.and sure enough that’s exactly what ended up happening with the Fourth Doctor set.

September 3rd, 2026 - 9:48pmI will be honest, whilst I am glad that we have got the New Series sets out of the way (I hate the New Series), this set is quite puzzling.
