Doctor Who Target Collection 2024 The Evil of the Daleks Paperback
Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com
You can also search for the book separately at www.ebay.co.uk
The latest addition to the Target Books range is included with the next issue of Doctor Who Magazine.
The Evil of the Daleks has been adapted by actor Frazer Hines who played companion Jamie alongside Patrick Troughton’s Second Doctor in the story. Ranging from Victorian England to Skaro, home world of the Daleks, this epic adventure tests the bond between the Doctor and Jamie like never before.
- It features the introduction of the Emperor Dalek, whose evil scheme threatens all human history…
- Based on episodes first broadcast in the sixties, this seven-part epic – that claimed at the time to show the “final end” of the Daleks – was first broadcast between 20 May and 1 July 1967…
- …In the summer of 1968 it became the first complete Doctor Who story to be repeated, with a scene at the end of The Wheel in Space showing the Doctor project the story via ‘thought patterns’ onto a screen to inform new companion Zoe what dangers she might encounter on their travels
- This novelisation is based on Jamie’s reaction to this retelling. It’s an exciting addition to the range for all fans, but long-term collectors will find it fits perfectly between previously published adaptations of The Wheel in Space and The Dominators!
- First published in 2023 as a hardback, this exclusive paperback edition, has brand-new cover artwork by Target cover artist Dan Liles and a foil embossed logo.
- Doctor Who Magazine previously gave away a selection of old Target Books in 2008, and published samples of new books in the range in 2021’s The Library of Time, but this is the first time it has gone on sale with a previously unreleased, full-length Target Book.
- The Target Books range is published by BBC Books. This title joins others covering all the Doctors –
including four Fifteenth Doctor novelisations published earlier this year.
Doctor Who Magazine Issue 609 is on sale Thursday 10 October from panini.co.uk and WH Smith priced £10.99 (UK).

October 12th, 2024 - 4:05pmIn terms of the spine of the book. Yes its faulty. It has a ripple effect on it, like the book has been read and the spine creased or cracked open. But the spine isn’t actually damaged. It’s not cracked as the book doesn’t fall open at the ripples. It’s a printing issue not a damage issue.

October 11th, 2024 - 5:23amWell, having started the book it’s very different from the original novel. The first episode is virtually gone and it seems a full reedit has occurred. Looking forward to reading this even more now

October 10th, 2024 - 6:24pmVery very disappointed to open my dwm to day and see the target book has a cracked spine, suppose that’s what happens when it’s a blind bag and you can’t cherrypick the best one, but the quality control really should be better!
Bookcollector
October 10th, 2024 - 6:56pmApparently it’s a production problem Mrs croot. Many of the copies have the same issue including mine and several other people who have commented on the magazine thread.

October 10th, 2024 - 6:59pmJust opened mine to find it’s also cracked down the spine.

October 10th, 2024 - 2:00pmSo to answer the question… it’s not the full version of the hardback novel. The interludes are gone between the episodes with only the first and last included. It’s been altered to have chapters instead of the individual episodes as one chapter each. I’m a bit annoyed, if they are going to do this include the full novel! Does this mean a future general release will return to the original novel? I’m pleased with book in terms of its look but the other issue is the spine of my copy is damaged. I cant afford to buy another one so that’s annoying too. Why didn’t they just release a full version as a target book in stores? Seems pointless to me to release an edited version!

October 9th, 2024 - 4:23pmGot it today. It’s the proper book in paperback. Only difference is where the barcode would be….

Snowman

October 3rd, 2024 - 2:38pmA shame the Doctor’s head looks enormous compared to his body!

October 4th, 2024 - 1:41pmArgh I can’t un-see that now that you’ve mentioned it!
Snowman
October 4th, 2024 - 2:06pmI thought it looked ok, especially when you see how wide his Shoulders are. If the Head was much smaller it would look like he had a Pin Head on those Shoulders.

October 3rd, 2024 - 2:28pmIs this exclusive to DWM or will it be available in bookshops later?
booboo
October 3rd, 2024 - 2:38pmnot listed anywhere at the moment including the penguin site

October 3rd, 2024 - 3:18pmCheaper to get with the mag. Paperbacks are roughly 7.99/8.99. With mag its only 3£.

October 3rd, 2024 - 5:29pmSurely it will get a proper release in bookshops and on Amazon, such a shame to not have it more widely available.
Amypondfan
October 3rd, 2024 - 6:13pmThe last set of target books retailed at £9.99 so I look at it as a pound for the mag.
Bookcollector
October 3rd, 2024 - 8:16pmSv7 I presume it will get released hopefully in a new set of target books but if I’m happy to get it this way. It does deserve a commercial shop release though
David Goldberg
October 4th, 2024 - 3:20pm@Alan – According to Panini this is version of the book is exclusive to DWM.
Snowman
October 5th, 2024 - 1:52pmCould be a different Cover for a General release then?
Bookcollector
October 5th, 2024 - 3:34pmIt might simply not have the foil effect on the logo for a general release
Snowman
October 6th, 2024 - 1:12pmIf that is the only Difference Book Collector then I’ll be more than happy with the DWM Edition. I won’t be splashing out on the General Release.
MJS
October 6th, 2024 - 2:20pmThe cover artist has tweeted his copy and it does have gold foil on the logo. This is a full-on proper Target release.
Mr Greel
October 3rd, 2024 - 2:14pmNot sure without checking but were the Dalek sucker arm and gun on the opposite sides to normal in this story as they appear to be on this cover?
Could be if they had the gun on the front dalek showing instead of the arm we would have had another Davison Suchard Easter Egg embarrassment so they changed the arm and gun to the oposite sides to normal?
Amypondfan
October 3rd, 2024 - 8:14pmI think it’s a homage to the old target covers that showed the daleks that way round at times.
MJ
October 3rd, 2024 - 2:01pmI wonder will this have been edited down from the hardback release or exactly the same.
Bookcollector
October 3rd, 2024 - 2:15pmBy the sound of it this is the full novel. Remember it was only around 220 pages and had big print so similar to the recent rogue paperback and much shorter than day of the doctor considering how small the print in that was. Been waiting for a target paperback of this for ages. I had hoped it would be included in a new set of books but I’ll take this one. Hopefully we will get more target books announced soon. Matt Smith is woefully represented so far!
MJ
October 11th, 2024 - 9:55amre-edit confirmed, not the full original.
Bill Silver
October 3rd, 2024 - 1:18pmWith the repeat of the “Evil of the Daleks” being canon it makes sense to retell the tale. John Peel’s version was very good, and so is this. The Frazer Hines version also elaborates on the original somewhat, making it pleasingly fresh. With scenes portrayed very differently to what was seen on television. For example, the Daleks striking up a conversation with Jamie as they try burning their way into the side room where he, Kemel and Victoria are barricaded within.

October 3rd, 2024 - 12:20pmVery glad to see this getting a paperback release, been waiting a while for it. Haven’t picked up the magazine in a very long time but will be getting this one!

October 3rd, 2024 - 12:24pmWeirdly I had been looking at the messages for the previous DWM article to see if there had been any further information on this upcoming release given in that comment section – then this popped up, timing!

The Foil Embossed Logo is a really nice Touch. (I think it will be Silver).
