Doctor Who The Complete Series 6 Steelbook

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk

Also available to order from www.zoom.co.uk and www.zavvi.co.uk

The Doctor returns, alongside newlyweds Amy and Rory, to face monsters and mysteries and adventures all across time and space. Together they find themselves in Sixties America, battling the invasion the world forgot, then journey on the high seas of 1696 aboard a pirate ship, to solve the mystery of the Siren.

In a bubble universe at the very edge of reality, the Doctor meets an old friend with a new face, and in a monastery on a remote island in the near future, an industrial accident takes on a terrible human shape. And waiting for them, at the end of all this, is the battle of Demon’s Run, and the Doctor’s darkest hour. Can even the truth about River Song save the Time Lord’s soul? Only two things are certain. Silence will fall. And a good man is going to die…

Mine finally arrived from Zavvi today, the fact that it’s just the original discs repackaged is a little disappointing but the artwork makes up for it

I think your find that unless there’s a change of content or extra material available that wasn’t so with the original releases the discs are the same design as with most of the previous steelbooks already issued.
It’s all about the steelbook art and not the content as only collectors will be buying these hence limited edition as we already have them in there original Blu ray format.

What’s the frame rate like? Slow down still or? Probably is present but just curious 🙂

They’re using the original transmitted versions so no slow down.

BearEight, are you very sure and have a source to confirm that the discs are re-authored to UK PAL transmission speed of 25 fps?

I honestly thought this steel book contained identical blu ray discs to those previously released – just packed in a nice new steel book.

If there is really no slow down to 24 fps, then may consider to ‘double dip.

Anyway, can you please confirm with a source or review reference?

      Thank you

      They use new discs

      Anonymous,

Is there any difference on the markings or artwork on the discs?

The ‘unboxing’ video that I viewed seemed to show identical discs as the previous blu ray set.

And I can’t find any definitive statement to say the discs have been re-authored to remove the slow down.

Do you have a link or source to confirm?

(I’m just a bit cautious to spend money on a ‘tin’ when it’s the contents of the program that’s the most important)

      Thank you.

Not sure how we’d check to see if frame rate is any different to original release.

Fact the discs are the same and have the old 2 entertain logo at start and not BBC Studios suggests they are not to me. Not that I ever noticed the frame rate thing in the first place.

      Roll on Series 7.

Always bought the new Blu ray boxsets of Classic Dr who, have all 7 so far. Never felt the urge to purchase the steelbooks though.
UNTIL NOW. They look great, the covers seem to be getting better and better, can’t resist anymore.
Won’t buy all at once though, too expensive. I’ll have to treat myself, now and again.

Is it just me or does Idris look a little out of place on this cover? Like I understand that she’s the Tardis and everything but she wasn’t one of the biggest parts of the series and doesn’t really link to the silence and Kovarian who she is place beside.

Think it’s nice to have her featured. She was one of the main cast in one episode. Also very impressed with Surrans acting in Dr who

It complements the green ‘house’ colour across the whole image. And both the Doctor’s wives feature.

I wouldn’t complain if suranne was the 14th doctor, her acting has been great in Dr Who so far.

      Ah ok
Do we know what the next set might be and if it will come out this year?

    • Gordon

      August 11th, 2020 - 9:54am

Probably 20 as a few of the extras have been done. It might come this year if its announced in the next month or 2 but if it’s not announced by the start of October It probably won’t be out till 2021

Don’t really matter to me what comes next, I never even check sites for any sneak previews of what’s next. I aim to collect the full series anyhow. I’m sure most fans will do too.

There is no denying that the steelbook is gorgeous. But with no new content, disc art or other incentives I just can’t justify spending out on the same series again. Think I’ll skip 7 as well and hold out for a 50th steel and call it day there. Great for collector’s who want it. But not for me.

The whole point is the actual steelbook though.
That’s the main reason to collect them.

I sold my Blurays after watching them so they help fund this range.

If they do decide to make sets like the collection range I might sell the steelbooks to fund that. But that would only be if they come with all the extras we are now used to.

      August 10th, 2020 - 7:26pm

I get that. I’m a steelbook collector myself. But if I I upgrade it’s because I’m getting more from it it terms of content. i.e. a 4k upscale or new features. Hence why I double dipped into The Tennant Specials. It had the new interview and the animated shows as well. If this gets cheaper and doesn’t sell out. Maybe I’ll dive in.

      August 10th, 2020 - 10:15pm

I’m glad they did that on the Specials.

Really they should have put Death of the Doctor as a bonus disc on this set as it’s where it should be in story order.

It might be coz it is already on the Season 10 collection set that they haven’t. The Commentary for it is brilliant too.

I expect Series 7 to be same as original and then a 50th Set before Series 8 again.

      Wish me luck.

No classic or Nu Who steelbooks there today. Probably only get a few In stock in each shop so they sell out quick.
