Hi, hope someone here can help me! My husband is a huge fan and has lots of the recent series in blu ray steel books. Am I right that the series 11 blu ray steel book is only available from Amazon? I saw a post that it doesn’t include the previous one off special so what’s blu ray would that be on? Sorry I’m a bit clueless but hoping to get him a good present!

do we think this might pop up reduced on Prime Day or Black Friday or any other day things Amazon do given that it will probably still be available given the amount of cancellations?

I certainly think it ought to be around £40 which the last 2 Capakdi Steelbooks were, although I think I paid £36 for Series 10…

After much deliberation I’ve decided to cancel my pre-order of this. I enjoyed the series but the price and lackluster artwork on this just isn’t doing it for me. I know it may become rare in the future but I’m just not liking it enough.

Does anyone know if the series not yet released in steelbooks of new Who will still happen or has the release of the Doctor Who collection put that on pause.
    Thanks

getting the sense series 3 perhaps did not sell well so may have put pay to series 4 if its happening it will probably juts pop up

I agree, I think Series 3 sold poorly, the artwork wasn’t that great to begin with (and the packaging is the only selling point for the steelbooks really as everybody has the stories already) and HMV, the only store to have them physically and therefore the biggest chance the public has to casually see them, put the price up from £25 to £35 in about a month, so that can’t have helped.

      January 3rd, 2019 - 11:34am

Amazon wont have helped either , they kept messing around with the image and even now just have “Doctor Who 3” as the title, easily bypassed by the casual shopper

      January 7th, 2019 - 3:56pm

Amazon had it for sale on Prime day last year, I didn’t even fully believe it was the series 3 steelbook until it showed up. The title was just ‘Doctor Who 3’ And the Image was The I side of the steelbook. Luckily it was the actual thing, but it was a gamble and I bet many missed out on the deal. It’s a real shame because we won’t complete the collection, they could have put the specials in the series 4 Set, and the 50th in the series 7 Set

Will this sell out quick or will it stay like the series 10 steelbook has, and will it be more expensive or cheaper

I’ve no idea whether it will sell out. As for the price, the 2 previous Capaldi Steelbooks were £40 on release so this seems somewhat overpriced in my opinion.

Think we’re confusing disappointment over the lack of original artwork with actual quality.

Most of us were gushing over this image in February and it does look nice here.

Also I really hope they have different things on each disk. Amazon!!!! It’s not just the box that makes it limited edition or a collectors item…It’s the detail…which this seasons steel book design clearly lacks

Not only is this steel-book unappealing to the eye…it’s also incredibly inconsistent. I have everyone of the steel book releases…even the incredibly rare season 9! And this design is by far the worst…yes, even worse than the season 3 design. All of the other cases have special fan art on the front and back of them…this does not!!! They also contain the words on the side of the case. NOT plastered all over the front cover. I’m so disappointed in this collection. I really thought it would finally look like an actual doctor who collection. I guess I was wrong. It’s starting to look separate. Only a couple of the seasons have the same consistent design. THIS IS NOT A COLLECTION. It’s certainly not a proper one. Why make a limited edition collection when your just going to ruin it with this. It’s lazy, sloppy and unoriginal. I’m furious with this amazon

      December 24th, 2018 - 9:52pm

Of course not!!!!!!! That steel book wasn’t part of a collection. That was a stand alone release. This collection is supposed to be 1 big collection of blu ray steel books. Everyone of them so far have just had fan art on the front and back and then the logo on the spine. This one has now ruined the collection.

My gut tells me to get the standard Blu Ray because the design is so much more appealing – but the completist tells me to go for the steelbook so it can sit nicely and ordered along with series 1-3 and 10 (and hopefully future steelbooks of 4-8). With all the other steelbooks having specially commissioned artwork it was a no brainer purchase, but this is the first time I’m not sure. Which one does everyone else think they’re gonna go for?

Is it right to say, this won’t have the Twice Upon a Time Christmas Special from Capaldi AND it won’t have the New Years Day Special for Whittaker???
That really makes no sense, especially as it comes out almost a month AFTER they show the New Years Day special. Please someone tell me I’m completely wrong and both episodes will be included.

Unfortunately the current standard mandate is 1080p shooting. Because of the advent of Planet Earth II in 4K, we’ll see a slow adoption of it, it took three years between Planet Earth (Which, coincidentally, was the first HD program filmed by the BBC) and Planet Of The Dead, the first HD Doctor Who episode. It’ll happen eventually, but they work at their own pace for adopting these things, really!

Doctor Who filmed in 4K lol they don’t even have the budget to edit in the right TARDIS on the Jodie Whittaker announcement they ain’t filming in 4K for a long time (sarcasm)

They should start shooting doctor who in 4K, It would be a waste if they didn’t
It’s the beginning of a new era, time to upgrade

    • J45ON96

      June 25th, 2018 - 7:24am

I disagree, especially with a VFX-heavy show like Doctor Who, once you push the filming format up to 4K, you need to upgrade the VFX, or they’ll lack the requisite resolution to gel properly on screen. This is coming from someone who absolutely loves 4K as a format, as well, by the way!

It’s easier recording a practical-effects-based show like Planet Earth II or The Grand Tour in 4K, as you’re al always filming a physical subject, but in Doctor Who’s case, you’d have to chop off a larger amount of the budget than ever for the VFX, at risk of taking the budget away from other things. It’s not something I can see the BBC investing more money in right now, either way. They’ll work on practical based shows in 4K until it’s more cost effective to do it on a wider scale.

Pre-ordered it, simply because I’ve been getting all the steelbooks so far and it’d be silly to pass this up! Though in saying that, I reeeeally hope they use artwork for the steelbook to keep it somewhat consistent with previous releases. More paranoid that they’re going for a Series 5 steelbook release which…no.
