I know this sounds like a silly question but does anyone know if it has the doctor, the widow and the wardrobe included? Because as far as I am aware it is like the only Christmas special not included in a boxset. It isn’t in the complete series 7 nor the season 6. Any ideas??

NOPE. Seasons 1-4 work but seasons 5-7 don’t. Heard they worked, but don’t believe it.

The first four Eccleston/Tennant seasons plus The Next Doctor first special were only shot in SD and not HD. The blu-rays of these will only be SD upscaled to HD still only able to show what was originally filmed in SD.

They haven’t gone back to the original HD ready film masters and recreated the SD effects as Paramount have done with classic Star Trek and ST:TNG where the scenes were shot on film and transferred to video for editing, effects and final masters.

Only Spearhead from Space and post-Waters of Mars can be true HD

You are part right, part wrong. It’s true, series 1-4 are shot on SD and won’t ever be true HD. It’s also SD upscaled, as you said. However, shooting in SD doesn’t mean it can’t be better! Most importantly; a DVD cannot exceed the maximum resolution of 480i, while series 1-4 are shot in SD, they are still 576i masters. Meaning the blu-ray release definitely has some picture quality improvement, albeit, not true HD as you said. Secondly, the audio probably is lossless DTS-HD MA instead of lossy Dolby Digital. No true HD, but much better than DVD

I like it, just that the specials, series 5, 6 and 7 are the same boxset covers. Oh well, doubt I’ll be getting it, I always prefer to get them in volumes, rather than boxsets to be honest. Have done from the very start.

Update from BBC re missing bonus disc. After the initial disappointment I am happy with this resolution.

    Dear Paul Wilcox

Thank you for your recent order (0) for Doctor Who: The Complete Series 1-7 Box Set (Blu-ray) [bbcbd0242]

Unfortunately we have just been informed by the publishers that the Bonus Blu-Ray disc will not be included in the UK version of this box set.

The bonus disc included a copy of the 2010 Doctor Who at the Proms and we appreciate that many of you will be disappointed not to have received a copy.

A 57 minute version of the 2010 Doctor Who at the Proms is included on the Doctor Who Christmas Special 2010 : A Christmas Special (Blu-Ray) and we are pleased to confirm that we will be sending you a free copy of this Blu-Ray disc in the next few days. Please allow 5 -7 working days for this item to be delivered.
