January 19th, 2021 - 2:35pmHMV now have a date of 8th March 2021 listed for the set whereas before it just said Coming Soon. Hoping to get it for my birthday.

January 19th, 2021 - 5:16pmI have the same from Amazon. Even pre-Pandemic this was the norm for there to be a release date and then delay(s). If it arrives by the end of March we should all be grateful!

January 19th, 2021 - 11:27pmI’m just happy it’s coming out. It’s only an extra couple of weeks. With the 50th anniversary steelbook also getting its release date it only leaves the web of fear special edition as dateless.

January 20th, 2021 - 10:45amCan’t see web of fear being out in February 22nd. There is just over a month away and there has been no cover or extras reveal and with the past few animations there has been a doctor who magazine preview and we haven’t had that either. Feels a little too soon. Was thinking it might be out the middle of March to take the usual March animated release but with season 8 now being released round about then its looking a bit less likely
Prof Horner
January 20th, 2021 - 12:23pmWell I got my email from Amazon saying it’s 8th of March ,so let’s hope it will be. As for future releases , I won’t be wasting my money on either season 22 or 24 .

January 20th, 2021 - 12:48pmThe last few collection boxset have been fan favourites. 26, the rerelease 12, 14 and now season 8 so I think it would be a perfect time to release a not so well regarded season like season 24. I actually quite like season 22 but season 24 Is probably the weakest classic season but I’m sure the collection team will make amazing special features for it. I’m still sticking with the idea that season 24 is next due to all the rumours and sylvester McCoy describing a behind the sofa in that interview

January 20th, 2021 - 12:51pmI’m really looking forward to when Season 7 and 13 are released.

January 22nd, 2021 - 11:09amAll the rumours seem to point to season 24 but I have no idea what the next one will be but I’m thinking perhaps a Tom Baker season and as we haven’t had a Graham Williams era set yet so it will probably be 15,16 or 17. I really want 17 but I think 16 will be next and I hope 16 comes with a tribute to Mary Tamm

January 19th, 2021 - 2:03pmI think we’ll get an announcement for a season on 16th February. I think it might be a surprise like a Season 22 or 24 as I think they’ll release S25 in late 2023

January 20th, 2021 - 1:03amWhat makes you think we’ll get an announcement on the 16th Feb?

January 20th, 2021 - 7:11amOn second thoughts, I don’t think there’ll be anymore releases until Summer because of COVID lockdowns so next announcement might be mid April for a end of July/ start of August release
Gordon
January 20th, 2021 - 12:16pmCould all depend on how much they got in the can. For season 8 they had filmed the direct route however the date they had planned to film Terrance and me the U.K. got locked down so that and the Devil’s weekend and behind the sofa all got postponed till later in the the year. From what I gather the blu ray team were very busy in the run up to Christmas. Even on Christmas Eve they were recording a commentary. It could be that they were anticipating further restrictions after Christmas and had planned to get everything filmed before then. Unlike the first lockdown where everything stopped they are still working. Ed stradling transferred 1 of his old features from sd to hd on the 6th of January and just yesterday Chris chapman finished a colour edit to a recent documentary he filmed. It could be the 1 after next that has the problems with filming if restrictions continue but filming for that will still be a few months away at the earliest. By March/April most of the extremely vulnerable will have had the vaccine and infection rates will have dropped significantly because of it. restrictions will start to ease up too.

January 18th, 2021 - 5:10pmNothing confirmed, but I’ve recently come across a post that Colin Baker has been filming for “the BBC Blu rays” for spring release… whilst it could be something for season 21 and I know it seems unlikely, but I feel Season 22 is now a new contender for a coming release
Gordon
January 18th, 2021 - 6:07pmI’ve not heard anything about Colin. Where about you heard this?
Bobby Fackrell
January 18th, 2021 - 9:21pmSounds rubbish to me. This release is currently due for the end of February if it doesn’t get delayed. With the second lockdown potentially hindering the schedule again I can’t see another release after 8 until the Summer at earliest. And if he’s filming it now how are they going to get it finished for the Spring anyway?
I would imagine the next release after 8 is much more likely to be 24 or 17 where we know a lot of special features have been banked ready
TheWHOlegacy
January 18th, 2021 - 9:41pmWith Colin we also have to remember that he’s in season 20 and might also be doing stuff for arc of infinity
David
January 19th, 2021 - 12:14amI’m equally as surprised tbh, on Instagram from his acting management company, the initial one about Blu ray extras is no longer available, but there is now an artwork image online atm search for Bowington management and look at their stories if you have Instagram 🙂
Gordon
January 19th, 2021 - 12:45amOoh interesting. Might be for season 22 or twin dilemma for 21 . Another thought it could be for season 20 with arc of infinity and that has had some extras done for it.
It will be interesting how they will tackle the twin dilemma extras. Would they really get Colin in during the filming of season 21 extras just for twin dilemma extras? Would probably make sense for them to film the extras for twin while making the season 22 extras

January 19th, 2021 - 10:03amThey could start by CGIing that awful outfit as worn by one Lieutenant Hugo Lang. What were they thinking? As though the production wasn,t gaudy and tacky enough as it is.

January 19th, 2021 - 10:47amI’ve seen a post that suggests that Colin and Michael Jayston may have participated in a Behind the Sofa for a Sylvester McCoy series – presumably Season 24.
Gordon
January 19th, 2021 - 10:59pmColin could have already filmed his bit for the blu rays. From what the members of the blu ray team said they were very busy filming and recording things in the run up to Christmas. Even on Christmas Eve Paul Venezis was recording a commentary and also editing a conversation. Spring 2021 goes from 20 March to 21 June 2021 so a release could happen late may and it still would be technically spring

January 19th, 2021 - 11:07pmColin could have already recorded his bit. The blu ray team were supposedly very busy in the run up to Christmas. Paul Venezis was even recording a commentary on Christmas Eve and also editing a conversation which tells you how busy they were.
Spring 2021 officially goes from 20 March to 21 June 2021 so a release could happen in late may and still could technically be considered spring.

January 13th, 2021 - 6:50pmI just got this reply from the BBC regarding whether the new series will be included as part of ‘The Collection’ on blu-ray and it doesn’t look like it’s guaranteed.
Hi Richard we have not been advised of this, within the DVD Enquiry Line. There’s quite a few more Classic blu-ray releases to come.
Best wishes
DVD Enquiry Line
I assume as with the classic DVDs classic Who has more of a collectors market and so it’s unlikely new content would be created for New Who hence the Steelbook re-issues.
Gordon
January 13th, 2021 - 7:17pmIf it happens it’s still quite a few years off. I doubt they would confirm that right now even if they had plans to include it. I mean they haven’t even confirmed anything after revolution of the daleks s8 web of fear special edition and the 50th anniversary steelbook releases. Even evil of the daleks which is a very open secret at this point hasn’t even been confirmed yet by the bbc

January 14th, 2021 - 9:59amI sincerely hope they do re package NuWho into the same format. January 14th, 2021 - 5:23pmPersonally I expect that if they intend to hold off on the final few animations being finished up first then they may move on to the 21st century sets just to fill out the range while waiting for the Hartnell era to be ready to go (I expect Troughton will be done by the time they’ve exhausted the 70s and 80s).
It would be nice to give those series the full classic treatment.

January 13th, 2021 - 12:17amWe know Season 20 is coming, its just a matter of waiting for COVID delays to stop. So definitely not next, but maybe the next but one or the one after that depending on how many sets they get through this year.

Gordon
January 13th, 2021 - 10:57amWhatever it is will be getting worked on just now. I doubt it’s season 20 due to travel restrictions. With Tom 87 this month I think it’s a good chance they will want to wait till he’s fully jabbed before using him so I don’t think it will be another Tom just yet. He can’t be that far off getting his first shot if he hasn’t had his first shot already. Sylvester Sophie and Bonnie met up last month and Sylvester has already said back in November then that he had rewatched season 24 with Sophie and Bonnie (it sounded like a behind the sofa) so I think it’s a good chance it’s for season 24.

January 14th, 2021 - 5:50pmApparently the original intention of the Dragonfire cliffhanger was that the Dr looks down and sees a shelf to climb down to, then as he’s hanging off his brolley the shelf retracts and he’s left hanging!

January 7th, 2021 - 8:37amWhat an amazing boxset, Im happy they kept living with Levine on this boxset and all the newly announced special features look great. January 7th, 2021 - 5:29pmI wonder about the decision to include 2 versions of Colony In Space. The 2011 restoration seems a bit pointless.
Auton
January 7th, 2021 - 5:37pmAll the film trims probably took up to much room on one disk so they had to do two colony disks but there was still plenty of room on the second disk so put the 2011 restoration as a bonus to fill in the spare room
Gordon
January 7th, 2021 - 6:04pmThe situation as I understand it is the new restoration of colony is very much improved but cropped due to the restoration techniques involved. The 2011 restoration is uncropped.

January 7th, 2021 - 8:13pmOh I thought footage had been cut, my mistake
Gordon
January 9th, 2021 - 12:30pmPeter Crocker has said this on the decision to include both:
RSC (reverse standard colourisation) has full temporal but poor spatial resolution & noisy. More picture at bottom. New restoration has good static spatial resolution but blended fields so double imaging & out of phase film inserts. More picture at sides. Having both covers all tastes.

January 10th, 2021 - 3:37pmThis still on schedule ?
Gordon
January 10th, 2021 - 11:18pmIt also opens the door for the likes of inferno, curse of peladon, sea devils, the mutants and the time monster to include their RSC versions when the time comes. Season 9 could be pretty packed if you also include omnibus versions and the special edition of day of the Daleks too.
Doctor who magazine still has it down to be released on the 22nd of February.

January 11th, 2021 - 7:29amDo you think they will include “who is the doctor” song on the season 9 boxset as that was recorded around the time of that season?

January 13th, 2021 - 11:41amGordon could i just ask Is there a possibility with Day of the daleks that they could somehow edit the overrun from the closing episodes into the theme tune and into those opening reprise scenes? Was this to do with the unabridged version being broke down into the four parter which caused this and that there was little they could do at the time of the DVD release?
the ergon
January 13th, 2021 - 8:16pmI did find the overun and music from the end of each previous episode in the following episodes rather annoying is why i ask. I didn,t quite make myself clear above.

April 7th, 2021 - 11:48pmSo is their cropping of both versions of Colony in Space or is one cropped and the other isn’t?
I am currently watch the series an episode a week, once in colour and once in black and white. It appears for Colony in Space I will be needing to watch each epsiode twice in colour and twice in black and white – save episode 2, where I’ll also watch the earlier edit in black and white as well in addition to all the film tirms of course. Just seen the location trims.
Very interesting
Cheers.

January 2nd, 2021 - 11:53amHere’s a thought, when they finally get round to releasing season 4 on blu ray ,how will it be presented.? Given that it will be likely ninety nine per cent animation.wull the packaging reflect this? Will the cover have the animated version of the Doctor on it . You don’t want some casual buyer buying it thinking it’s the original episodes then feeling cheated. What does anyone think?
James
January 2nd, 2021 - 12:41pmPlus who’s season will it be? 2 stories are Hartnell and 7 are Troughton. Or will they squeeze the 2 Hartnell ones into season 3?
Anonymous
January 2nd, 2021 - 2:12pmThey’ve already said they will be including the two Hartnell stories (and Colin Baker’s debut with 21).
The existing episodes will all be included as will reconstructions of the originals so I see no reason to design it with the animated Doctor.
Bobby Fackrell
January 2nd, 2021 - 4:28pmNot sure 99% will be animated
Gordon
January 2nd, 2021 - 4:49pmLee binding has already said that it will be the doctor that is most prominent will get the cover so 4 will be troughton and 21 will be Davison. There is still 10 surviving episodes in season 4 so it’s more like 23 percent of it will be animated. I can’t see any reason why they would use an animated troughton as the cover as it would not match the other covers in the collection. Each set is £40- £45. Would casual fans really drop that much on a set? I can’t see it.
TheWHOlegacy
January 2nd, 2021 - 5:35pmThe 2 hartnells will be on season 4 just like twin dilema will be on 21. This has been confirmed by the blu ray team. I don’t think we will have animated covers as it would be quite jarring and not match the rest of the collection. Also it will say on the J card about animated episodes so no one should feel cheated if they actually take a quick glance at the back of the box.

January 2nd, 2021 - 11:50pmIsn’t Zoom subject to the same UK importing taxes as Amazon uk? Because that’s not reflected on their shipping price. I think they charged 1.99 GBP for EU shipping, and no “import fees deposit, like amazon UK is doing.

January 3rd, 2021 - 2:11pmYou have had stuff delivered from zoom to the EU since Jan 1st?
Which country are you in? Did you have to pay any charges?
MrCarlson
January 3rd, 2021 - 2:28pmWell, so far it’s a moot point because Amazon uk isn’t allowing to re order Season 8 of doctor who, after having canceled a bunch of my orders, for some reason, and I gather that happened with a lot of EU costumers, this past weekend, but I’d rather go with amazon and pay the import fees deposit upfront and have them deal with it. But I have it on order on zoom, because, so far, that’s my only option. Or not have it.

December 30th, 2020 - 6:14pmSame thing just happened to me. Got this and 3 other orders randomly canceled, and it’s showing me as Out of stock, so I can’t re order any of them. Contacted Amazon UK and they said they’re working on the issue and half blamed it on the brexit transition. All the other items I can always order later, but these seasons tend to go very fast. Super frustrated, have never been so mistreated

December 31st, 2020 - 8:49amI talked to the Amazon Customer Service and they claim it was some error. Blu-Ray should be back in stock in January and I shall have priority and it won’t be cancelled this time. They also gave me 10 gpb coupon for inconvenience. December 31st, 2020 - 11:09amActually I was expecting this kind of issue. DW 50th Anniversary SteelBook is unavailable for EU residents on Amazon and DWC was suppose to follow bc of the Brexit thing.

December 13th, 2020 - 9:53amSeason 7 is the best season of classic who and all 4 stories are my favourites. But I think season 9 and 11 will be released before 7 but we thought season 8 would be near the end and now we’re getting it in February
DPHill
December 13th, 2020 - 12:31pmI must agree it is a splendid season! Probably the most work to be done for that one and the trickiest seen as all the main characters and most guest cast are sadly not with us (the only one springing to mind is John Levene and even then he was only in a few of the epsiodes that year). I think we could be seeing Season 9 thereafter as it would coincide with that season’s 50th as well.
Gordon
December 14th, 2020 - 3:39amThe good thing about the pertwee era is all of his seasons are pretty well represented on dvd already. 7 9 and 11 are already pretty full of extras already. With season 8 coming out fairly quickly I don’t think they are going by in terms of restoration. I definitely think they should do season 9 next. Katy manning is always great value so it would be silly not to get her in while she is available. 7 and 11 are both pretty sparse in terms of surviving cast members so they can wait till later.
For season 7 I definitely think having Sean pertwee and Daisy Ashford on behind the sofa would be a great idea. Or if Sean isn’t available maybe Geoffrey Beavers. A 5.1 mix of spearhead and Silurians would be great. Giving spearhead new cgi seems the obvious 1 to go for. In terms of documentaries all the basics are covered. I was thinking of either a Malcolm hulke or Robert Holmes bio but both of those have already specific documentaries about them plus with them passed away 35-40 years ago finding family and friends might be tricky. The writers room is out as all the writers and the script editor are no longer with us. I suppose they could do another direct route for season 7 as both Michael Ferguson and Timothy Combe is still here. It’s going to be interesting
Bushboy
December 8th, 2020 - 11:14pmI think the best way to deal with the 60’s sets would be just to start releasing now them in as complete a form as possible and then if animated versions of the missing episodes are created later
produce a collectors edition which can be swapped out into the collection sets.
SamWho
December 9th, 2020 - 1:26amSurely the best thing to do would be to wait till after everything is animated even if that’s ten or more years as that’s a bit of a faff otherwise
Bob
December 9th, 2020 - 3:15pmThere’s no rush for the black and white Seasons to get released, there are still plenty of other Seasons that aren’t incomplete that can be released. The first complete 60’s Season will probably be Season 5 in 2022 with The Wheel in Space’s animation so we’ll probably see Season 5’s boxset then. I can also see Season 1 getting released in 2023 to celebrate the 60th anniversary although I have a horrible feeling that Marco Polo won’t get animated and it will be represented using the cutdown recon from The Edge of Destruction’s DVD.
D84
December 10th, 2020 - 10:07amIm not particularly fussed on when they come out (60’s sets) as long as they do eventually. I can see the benefit of waiting for all the animations to complete if that is what is going to happen. Like many others have said, I expect (based on nothing at all other than my own opinions) that we are likely to see the seasons with only 1 or 2 stories left to fill in released first – where those stories are your typical “base under siege” plot – due to using less characters etc. I’m just happy the material cleans up so well and is presented in beautiful packaging. Literally cannot wait until I have them all presented on the shelf together. I would also very much like to see “NuWho” re packaged in this same style along with a wilderness years set containing The Movie / Enemy Within. But I’m not sure that will happen given the ongoing release of the steel books for NuWho. Wait and see I guess
Bobby Fackrell
December 13th, 2020 - 9:47am6 and 2 have got to be soon surely
I would take a telesnap reconstruction with narration for Crusaders that was excellent on Fury From the Deep.
Space Pirates again just do an audio it’s only one story
One makes sense for 2023 as everyone is saying but I would not argue if they put it out earlier
Anonymous
December 13th, 2020 - 4:55pmI have yet to hear anyone connected to the animations or Blu Rays express any concern about The Space Pirates (and there’s plenty of stories they have mentioned as being potential problems).
There’s not much left of the Troughton era, it’s almost certainly coming in 2022 (and failing that, it will be done in 2023) no matter how much some people seem to have convinced themselves nobody will touch it.
Gordon
December 14th, 2020 - 2:56amWith 14 characters (2 of which both animation teams already have) 17 costumes and 12 sets I can’t see why space pirates would be problematic to animate. It’s less characters costumes and sets than fury and faceless ones. The only real issues would be some of the sets and actors they don’t have a visual record as they don’t appear in part 2 but I’m sure they could work round that. The audio is quite good quality too so it shouldn’t give Mark Ayers too many headaches. The only thing that holds it back is it’s reputation.
I don’t think there should be a rush to bring out season 6. They can always bank interviews if need be. Bringing it out now when there is a good chance of space pirates being animated within the next 2 years isn’t bringing it out when it’s as complete as possible. Plus I’m certain the last thing those that work on the sets want to do is just bring out the audio or leave it blank.
After evil, abominable (even though they are just rumoured I’m sure they will be happening) and wheel are released there is only 4 Troughton stories left. Highlanders, underwater menace, wheel in space and space pirates. Wheel in space seems like the obvious next release from bbc studios and the underwater menace also seems inevitable as the next special edition release.
That leaves 1 full blown animation slot from big finish creative and only 2 troughtons left. Seems a bit silly not to do the last remaining easy to do troughton regardless of reputation plus it means both season 5 and 6 could be released as complete as they could be.
Of course They could always try highlanders instead of space pirates but with conflicting comments about the highlanders with Charles Norton saying it’s unlikely to be animated and Gary Russell saying it doesn’t look any more difficult to animate than any other historical. it’s maybe worth holding highlanders back till they are certain it can be done

December 15th, 2020 - 2:28pmOne of the many reasons Pat is the best Doctor for me is you get 100 per cent from him in every episode even The Underwater Menace he gives a brilliant performance.
That’s why stories like The Dominators and The Krotons have magical moments in them like The Doctor and Zoe doing the intelligence test or Jamie and The Doctor pretending to be stupid. In The Space Pirates the ‘well I have a screwdriver’ scene is brilliant.
Patrick Troughton was a legend
So much of the heartbreaking thing of the missing episodes is because of the two brilliant Doctors in them!

December 7th, 2020 - 8:21pmFrom the promo image, the assumption is that there are 3 discs for The Daemons. But two of the discs in the image show the same image of Bok. Given that no other set has repeated disc images, the second “Bok” disc is likely an error made in the compositing of the image.
Though I think a B&W version of Mind of Evil is unlikely (why not B&W versions of all the other episodes that required recolouring?); which story the disc is connected to, or if it is a second bonus disc (similar to the Season 23 set) is up in the air.
I dare say a disc by disc breakdown of the sets contents will be in this week’s DWM.
Auton
December 7th, 2020 - 8:24pmThose were on the bonus disk because those omnibuses were shown around Christmas and the bonus disk is everything that’s in the gap between seasons and everything that’s in the season but not one of the specific stories so if the VHS mind of evil was included it would be on the mind of evil disk

December 5th, 2020 - 2:10pmThey only did rerelease of season 12 (the first in the collection) as they didn’t do loads to start with. Only did so many to see how popular they would be. Now all the sets are released with the same amount. The rerelease only printed/made more to bring inline with the same.numebrs of how many made for future releases.
It is a shame I know. But when they are all released (along time away I know) I’m sure they with release them as standard sets (plastic boxes). Then the next option would be to do mega collection box sets: full Doctor Sets. Now this is going to be the ultimate set and priciest. Similar to the MCU Infinity Sage set. They were done as individual release; then character box set, and then phase box set. If not could always subscribe to BritBox as only 5.99 a month and watch all of them

December 2nd, 2020 - 5:30pmWho Legacy. Just can’t see them animating Space Pirates, sorry or a lot of the Hartnell’s. Would they really release the colour seasons upfront and then a load of b and w seasons at the end; can’t see it and it just wouldn’t make sense to release a collection like that. Season 21 after 6 and then The Key to Time early 22!!, you read it here first.
Rob W
December 2nd, 2020 - 6:42pmThe colour seasons are largely complete and the existing masters can more easily be used to prepare these HD sets. The money these make can then go into developing the harder to do serials. I think they’ll try and do something for the 60th Anniversary in 2023.
TheWHOlegacy
December 2nd, 2020 - 10:03pmWe know the team haven’t started any work on black and white seasons yet as they’ve said they haven’t. A few years ago we thought animations were dead and saying they’ll never animate a full 6 part story or something like the macra terror. The animations team have said as long as people and BBC america want animation they’ll make animations. Gary Russell has stated that he doesn’t see why any story wouldn’t be animated. Also having visuals sometimes causes a story to be re assessed. Just look at enemy and macra which were both seen as lackluster but as soon as we got recoveries and animation the stories became fan favourites for a lot of people.
Patton
December 2nd, 2020 - 11:55pmI would have to disagree my friend. Those who work on these sets are just as much fans of the show as we are, and they would like to have the most complete collection as any one of us would like to have. Maybe 2 and a half years ago several of the missing epi. would have been off the table but at the speed the animation teams are going know I don’t think anything will stop them. So it just makes since to save the 60’s sets for the end. Season 1 maybe 2023, but other than that I don’t think any of us or the collection team has any problem waiting to finish this range off with a Black&White bang.
Rob W
December 3rd, 2020 - 3:58pmAnother consideration is the quality of those audio soundtracks which may not be able to be fully restored.
Gordon
December 7th, 2020 - 10:18amEven though Russell Minton said back in 2018 that “they weren’t going to leave the black and white seasons till last” he has since said that they wanted to “have them as complete as they can be”. A lot has changed since his original comment about not leaving them till last.
The animations have massively took off and get 2 a year with a bonus special edition release. Also with the pandemic this year the season sets have kind had been put on hold for a little while. It’s probably going to be 2026ish before the collection range ends.
The animations have been completely focused on troughton. With the rumours of evil and abominable being animated next year that only leaves the following Troughton stories: highlanders and underwater menace for season 4, wheel for season 5 and space pirates for season 6. That’s only 4 Troughton stories left.
As for space pirates I wouldn’t rule it out. There is no telesnaps so they would need to do something with the episodes on the collection that is more than just including the soundtracks. They are fans of the show and will want to do something more for it. It may not have the best of reputation but 2022 they will be seriously starting to run out of troughtons. Animation could give it a reappraisal especially if it does it’s own thing with it. 2022 could give us both wheel (it’s the next story along plus it’s a cybermen) and pirates (and underwater menace if we get another additional special edition) thus giving us complete season 5 and 6 and neither of those need to be left till the end.
I’m also kind of expecting season 1 box set for late 2023 as it’s the 60th anniversary. I know some have masterplan pegged for 2023 but how about Marco Polo instead? Masterplan can wait till 2025 when it’s the 60th anniversary of masterplan. I know they have said Marco Polo is unlikely to be animated but with it being the 60th it might give them an incentive to push the boat out plus if space pirates does get animated all bets could be off. Even if marco is not animated I’m certain a telesnap reconstruction will be included on the season 1 box set.
That’s half the seasons covered. Season 2 could also happen at anytime as it’s only missing 2 episodes of the crusade and there is plenty of telesnaps to do a decent recon. Season 3 and 4 will probably be left till the end or near the end.
There is also the possibility that they could start integrating the 2005 series onwards to give them more time to fill in the blanks.
I’m sure the audio will be fine. Mark Ayers always does a phenomenal job. None of his audio soundtrack cds have been unlistenable and none of the missing episodes on dvd or blu ray so far haven’t been unlistenable either.
daz
December 7th, 2020 - 12:07pmSounds good to me Gordon. I’ll happily wait longer for the 60’s stuff it it can be complete with animations as much as possible.

Personally, I’d prefer colour but they would look good either way. Wonder what Lee Binding has planned?

December 7th, 2020 - 12:12pmSo if Abominable and Evil are rumoured for next year+ and plans are in place for the 60th I wouldn,t be at all surprised if season 1 didnt get a special 60th anniversary release. I would like to see an animated Marco Polo exclusive rather than updated effects etc which are usually included (something special for the fans rather than Telesnaps) or even as separate release as you mention. Although it wouldn,t give them a great deal of time to get this seven parter done given what was already mentioned regarding all the different sets and costumes. The animators are going to be working flat out as it is if they do 3 possibly 4 individual classics between 2021-2022 to combine with their respective seasons whenever they get released and thats inbetween the other classic/ New Series boxset releases.
DP Hill
December 7th, 2020 - 3:04pmanyone think they will use levine’s mission to the unknown and the UCLAN version? they could well release these and with a couple of special features and a telesnap – even add in the daleks series thats currently webcasting, there’s enough for a quick release that wouldn’t even feel rushed
Anonymous
December 8th, 2020 - 12:17pmLegally they can’t use Ian Levine’s version, but I fully expect the UCLAN version to be included (in fact I expect that will be the version put on the Season 3 set as the main version with a recon in the extras, especially if there’s not an animation).

December 1st, 2020 - 3:33amFor me am guessing that with possibly 6 years left to release the rest of the seasons, with the average being 3 seasons a year; they will only want to release 1 black and white season a year. So that means starting next year with 2021 and my pick would be season 6 for the next one after season 8. That release date will probably be around late June which coincides with the transmission date of the last episode of the War Games, too much of a coincidence to ignore for me and a nice time; the 52 anniversary of the end of that season and the black and white era to introduce that era onto the collection range
TheWHOlegacy
December 1st, 2020 - 11:28amProblem with series 6 is The Space Pirates as we don’t have telesnaps and the fact that troughton is slowly running out of stories left to animate, so it could be a 2022 contender for animation. The blu ray team changed their stance on the 60’s sets this year and did say they were willing to hold 60’s sets back because the animations are now definitely a regular thing. They’d rather wait than have released a set that may then have a missing story animated a year later. I think 2022 or 2023 will see seasons 5 and 6 come out, following animations of wheel and pirates, with season 4 most likely 2 years later. Seasons 1 and 2 will depend upon if the teams have got to a point that the 2 historicals have become less problematic for them and season 4 basically has the same situation plus the underwater menace that I could see them taking the same approach they have with web of fear. Season 3 will most likely be one of the last as selling a set with inly 3 complete stories will be a challenge so they’ll want that bulked up with animations. Wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing 2 sets a year in a few years time to give enough breathing space to get stories completed.

December 2nd, 2020 - 12:41amI also believe seasons four and three likely to be the last releases so 2025 probably is a fair shout

December 2nd, 2020 - 9:48amI think season 1 will be the first b&w set as it exists in its entirety with an animated Reign of Terror. Season 2 could be a contender if they get the remaining episodes of the crusade animated

December 2nd, 2020 - 9:56amMJS your forgetting Marco Polo for Season 1 but yea your right Season 1, 2 or 6 are mostly complete so will be the first boxsets and with all the animation almost being done season 4 and 5 will soon be complete

November 30th, 2020 - 6:34pmI know we shouldn’t think too far ahead, I am very excited for another set to be released, especially this one, but just because I love the speculation, which sets do you think will be next? I’m thinking after season 8, we could see 2 more sets in 2021 potentially. I’m going to guess season 20 and season 24. If we stretch to three sets I’d add season 17. What do you guys think?

November 30th, 2020 - 7:03pmI think season 24 is next

November 30th, 2020 - 8:48pmI’m still thinking even numbers for a while.
For Tom I expect Season 16 to land in 2021.
And agree that 20 and 24 are up there but we could see Season 2 next. And then 6.

November 30th, 2020 - 9:41pmI’ll take anything really, just pleased they are releasing them out again after months of waiting. I’d love a 60s set soon though, even if they just used a recon for the crusade’s 2 missing episodes for season 2, that’s still 37 live action episodes we’re getting, same for season 6, with the space pirates. I wouldn’t mind season 24 as I’ve only seen 1 of the 4 stories. Not sure what happened to season 20, that was rumoured for so long, but similarly I’ve only seen the 5 Doctors from that season so I’ll be happy whenever that comes around. I think the next set will be either 20 or 21 with another Tom Baker release before the year is out, but it definitely won’t be 13, that will be his last I think, they will be saving that as it’s one of the best, same with season 7 now I think about it, plus that one needs a fair bit of restoration needed.

November 30th, 2020 - 10:03pmI suspect that Season 20 may well have been released this year if the pandemic hadn’t prevented them from filming all the special features as planned. Perhaps Season 8 had features that were easier to complete this year (not to mention the coinciding of the Master’s 50th anniversary), so it made sense for that release to come next. I would be very surprised if we didn’t see the Season 20 boxset in 2021 though! The previous comments on this site would strongly suggest you’re right to expect 24 and 17 too. All speculation though.

November 30th, 2020 - 10:42pmSeason 13 will definitely be Toms last in around 2024. Saving his best til last.
Season 1 and 25 in 2023.
20 would have been perfect in 2020 but it is good they delayed it to film another special feature (as the rumours suggest).

November 30th, 2020 - 11:50pmI’m thinking the same for Pertwee with season 7 being his last release – could even do 9 early 22 and 11 in mid 23 or early 24 for their 50th anniversaries

December 1st, 2020 - 4:25amI’m hoping for either season 15 or 17 for Tom. Season 2 would be nice. And I do hope we get season 20 as well. Season 6 would be a sweet surprise too.

December 3rd, 2020 - 7:40amI’m not sure 13 will be saved for last. 12 and 14 came out very early on and many releases so far and the ones heavily rumoured are quite close together. 7 will be a while because it is technically demanding.
I’m sure and hope Black and White sets come too, I can see 2 or 6 coming very soon, hopefully next year. Id take Space Pirates with 5 audios if it meant getting the rest of the series or even an empty tray

November 30th, 2020 - 4:10amAny clues yet as to the “unseen studio footage”? The full surviving Axos material was included on the Special Edition DVD I thought, which would mean this was something else. (Hopefully something more exciting than two more minutes of Colony In Space model-studio footage.)

November 30th, 2020 - 11:37amI don’t know how true this is but I read a tweet on twitter talking about a scene that was cut down because it was quite violent which involved one of the characters attacking someone with a wrench in colony in space (I haven’t seen colony in years so I don’t who the character is) and the full version of the scene was accidentally put on foreign prints of colony sold abroad. So if it’s true the full scene could be included on the boxset but I wouldn’t class that as ‘unseen studio Footage’ so there must be more footage we don’t know about
