I was surprised to see Frank Skinner in the Terrance Dicks tribute. Usually an extra i would have associated with Toby Hadoke. I like frank, and its nice to see they are using different people who are also lifelong fans. Extremly happy about the Autons CGI update and extended Axos part 1. A marvellous package. The question now is Zoom or Amazon?. Amazon seemed to get the first orders out quicker with the last release.

Trailer just released. Looks great. Given season 8 was televised beginning January 1971 I’m going to say it’s a possibility release date but maybe to soon. Jon Pertwee was born in July so maybe then to be his 102nd birthday. Or maybe 25 years since he passed away May?.
You wait for a release and get 5 announcements within a week. (Web Of Fear-DVD, Blu-Ray, Steelbook-50th Steelbook)

I’m really looking forward to the direct route and Terrance and me and the Devil’s weekend. Claws of axos is one of my favourite stories so an extended episode 1 is great and updated effects for another of my favourite stories Terror of the Autons. Behind the sofa and in conversation is always great as well, you can’t have too much Katy manning. Everything about this boxset is amazing and the third doctor era is my favourite! Only have to wait to February 23rd.

At last! We’ve waited a fair while for this, thanks to covid.
I had a feeling it would be a Pertwee boxset next, as there are five seasons to complete.
Colony on Space is the only weak story here, in my opinion.
Can’t wait to see the trailer for this. They are usually entertaining to watch.

Same here. Been told due to COVID they cannot accept pre orders for foreign customers. It would be open for international shipping once the item release.

Enjoyed the new trailer with Katy and husband. The effects for Terror look promising. The scenes with the laid out Auton and Mrs Farrells kitchen scene definitely needs the makeover. The New look Troll doll looks good.

Actually the logo change is currently only for theatrical and on-demand. According to the BBFC ‘for packaged media, introducing the new symbols requires changes to the relevant piece of secondary legislation, the Video Recordings Act (Labelling) Regulations 2012. It is expected that the necessary changes to legislation will be made in time for the new symbols to be used on packaged media starting from 6 April 2020’. That would likely be before this release.

    I have so many questions

8 Discs???. Why is the old PG logo there. Will those both change.

Is this season is gonna need major remastering to fit blu ray standards?. Asking Gordon. Do you know anything about the remastering process for this time?. Is it a complete re-re-remaster from Scratch. Like did they go back to the original reels and reapply the colour. Surely technology has moved on a ton since the DVD. I’m existed for this set.

I’ve no idea what they have done to it but I’m sure we will find out soon. It would have been a lot of work that’s for certain.

    • Auton

      November 25th, 2020 - 8:52am

It seems that there is going to be at least 2 discs for the daemons and because quite alot of the episodes dont exist In there original colour format then they will have to use one of the many colour restoration techniques to restore them. Terror of the autons definitely needs to be recoloured with more recent recolouring techniques as the dvd was released a long time before more modern techniques were available and does look to the standard of the restored colour on the more recent dvds mind, claws and colony. I think they daemons will also have to be recoloured like terror but for the bluray I think and I dont know because they havent said anything yet that all the episodes that need recolouring will have to be recoloured to look good on blu ray

    • Auton

      November 25th, 2020 - 8:53am

Basically we dont know enough to say what there doing

    • Gordon

      November 25th, 2020 - 9:16am

I think autons actually doesn’t look too bad considering the source material. Colony looks a lot worse than autons but again that’s down to source materials. Colony and mind 2-6 are probably going to be the most challenging

    • Auton

      November 25th, 2020 - 9:30am

I haven’t watched colony in years so you would know more about the picture quality than me. I’m sure the restoration team will get the best possible picture out of the limited source material available

    • Rob W

      November 25th, 2020 - 10:13am

It’s back! This has been heavily rumoured but still this is amazing news. One of my favourite seasons with Terror, Mind, Claws and the daemons all being so of the best stories. I’m hoping there is a teaser trailer for it and an announcement of all the new special features. This boxset must have been a challenge for the restoration team with so many episodes needing to be recoloured but I’m sure it will make every story on here look so much better than the already great quality picture on the DVDs

When can we expect them to disclose all the contents gordon? Can we expect more CGI or a brand new colour restoration on Terror do you think?

    • Gordon

      November 25th, 2020 - 9:49am

Hopefully we will find out later today fingers crossed. I think there maybe a new alternative cgi story (autons, axos or daemons are all possibility’s). I’m not actually sure what they will do restoration wise but I’m looking forward to see what they will do

    • Auton

      November 25th, 2020 - 10:08am

Hopefully Claws will get alternative cgi but I would happily have updated special effects for any of the stories.

    • Pete X

      November 25th, 2020 - 12:15pm

Hopefully the updated effects for Terror of the Autons will replace the electric fuzz of the materialising Nestene with something that looks like the Lovecraftian monstrosity on the cover of the second edition of the Target novelisation. It was a source of disappointment when TotA was released in 1992, that the Nestene didn’t look like that cover.

    • the ergon

      November 25th, 2020 - 7:33pm

I,m sure those effects will be easier to overlay and be included, but i,m sure they can work wonders on the poor CSO background scenes as well.

  • SilentNinjaZero

    November 25th, 2020 - 6:25am

Wow this is amazing! A bit surprised it has been announced this soon after the 2 steelbooks, but thrilled nonetheless. I wonder why the set is 8 discs though? Maybe this hints that they’re including the omnibus version of the Daemons. It could be that Claws or Daemons need second discs, as some of the studio recordings are quite long.

I’ve been waiting for a Collection announcement for a long time. The artwork is great. Really happy every story got included on the cover, including Colony. Can’t wait!

Ah didn’t look at the discs closely enough. Seems that Daemons is getting three discs. Very likely they are including the omnibus version then. Happy days 🙂

    • Gordon

      November 25th, 2020 - 7:17am

The last couple of omnibus inclusions have been included on the bonus disc (genesis, green death) so it will be interesting to see what’s on that disc if they are having to give it a disc of its own

    • Robert Sienicki

      November 25th, 2020 - 7:22am

But it looks like two discs of The Deamons on top got the same picture.

    • Pete X

      November 25th, 2020 - 7:36am

The apparent third Daemons disc might be an error in the picture. Two of the discs show Bok in the same position when you would expect a different image like the other six discs.

So, I would suggest a third Daemons disc is yet to be confirmed.
