I’d doubt it, notify the seller about the problem. Ask about any replacement or a partial refund of say £5?

I’m worried mine might be like this as well! Certainly sounds like something might be loose inside. I haven’t been brave enough to open it yet.

I absolutely love these sets, but I do wish the quality control for the packaging was a bit better. When you’re lucky enough to get a perfect one it’s amazing but it seems to be a bit hit and miss which makes me nervous when having to preorder online.

Thanks Bobby, haven’t dealt with Amazon much in the past. Much prefer Zoom, but they’ve changed hands. I hope it doesn’t come in a plastic bag like the last two videos I’ve bought from them.

No point looking at status on Zoom as been taken over so it won’t change. The email you got before the take over is technically your dispatch notification…

I noticed in the Season 8 Blu-Ray preview interview with Chris Chapman around the 8:30 mark he seems to mistake Season 8 and says Season 5 twice in a row, most likely said in error I know but got me wondering if that season is especially on his mind currently

Depending on how the animations lineup there is a good chance it could be ready to go in the next couple of years (probably animated in 2022, season release in 2023).

Bit off to already be planning it, but they could very well be drawing up their plans for the 60th now.

    • Pete X

      March 4th, 2021 - 5:45pm

Given his answer to the question about the B&W seasons, it’s a genuine mistake.

That’s quite an interesting interview. If anyone is interested it’s here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UifxOCXdynU (peels self off floor after the stampede)

    • Bobby Fackrell

Definitely a mistake, he’s talking about the five stories in the season when explaining the Direct Route and says season five by mistake. And he’s drinking!

He does virtually confirm they working on black and white stories when he says they are longer seasons and more difficult to do, he is explaining it in the present tense

I still think 6 is coming soon

Can’t wait for the Black and white seasons to be finally put on Blu-ray. Been watching the old seasons over last few weeks trying to watch them all eventually.
Really been enjoying watching them again. My only real gripe is the “muddyness” of the picture quality still. I should imagine this will be much improved for the collections?

Bodes well for an improved season 7, and with season 11 with full colour episode 1 and cgi dinosaurs.

    • the ergon

      March 2nd, 2021 - 11:50pm

Budget might not stretch to both upgraded colourisation AND CG dinosaurs. I,d much prefer New CG for Planet of the spiders and a more dramatic regeneration into Tom rather than the pitiful fade in fade out that Jon got for his final story.

    • philip shaw

      March 3rd, 2021 - 10:05am

…not as pitiful as Colin B into Sylv though Ergon!

    • Auton

      March 3rd, 2021 - 10:46am

Personally as a 3rd doctor fan I would prefer Dinosaurs getting the cgi treatment as that story needs it much more than Planet of the Spiders does

    • Prof Horner

      March 3rd, 2021 - 11:34am

But then Philp Shaw, Jon Pertwee left because he wanted to. Unlike Colin Baker who was made the fall guy for the total failure of season 23. I currently watching season 7 in anticipation of season 8 due on Monday.

    • DPHill

      March 3rd, 2021 - 2:12pm

Might they dare to do both Spiders and Dinosaurs? I’m thikning this set will likely be in 2024 and coincide with the 50th anniversary of some of the episodes of that season and sarah-jane – the 60th anniversary before it will no doubt cause extra interest and perhaps a bigger budget? I’m only being hopeful though

    • The Loiterer

      March 4th, 2021 - 12:25am

I loathed the Pertwee/Baker regeneration when I was a kid, but as I grew older it became one of my favourites because it focuses entirely on the moment and not special effects – I’ve seen some fan attempts at adding effects and they kill the scene completely. I also admire the restraint of the TVM producers who didn’t use the expected morph but went for a simple form of wipe instead – I’m not a big fan of the movie but they did a nice job there.

    • the ergon

      March 4th, 2021 - 10:48am

Loiterer, it doesn,t require bombastic firework displays and such just something new and special to add to that moment. It is just an overlay after all. I,m a little disappointed they didn,t do the same with colin into sylvester (we still have that ridiculous Harpo wig in all its HD quality to look forward to) and a completely wasted opportunity for them to rectify that scene for Season 24 even though the rest of the effects still mostly stand up. Some upgraded effects for Spiders wouldn,t go amiss. True, Some of Invasions dinosaurs, the fight scenes and the the time scoop effects could do with an upgrade but would rather the upgraded colourisation on episode 1 gets more priority.

They did as an Easter Egg, didn’t they?

    • JamButty

      March 6th, 2021 - 2:54pm

      DPHill

Tony Hadoke said on a Q&A at VworpCon in 2019 that they would definitely be doing something with the dinosaur effects for the Blu-ray release.

But didn’t know if it would necessarily be CGI, could be new model effects so not too far removed from the original. But vastly improved.

I agree with the first part (the iso score), though I think recreating the scores for the other stories would be a bit much. Season 23 only had it because it was four episodes of the fourteen-part story, and all the scores still survived; it was only the music itself that didn’t, and there wasn’t even very much of it!

    • bryan

      February 28th, 2021 - 8:18pm

MNindwarp is a special case, as it was recreated , by the original composer Richard Hartly. Not the same as someone else re-creating music, without a score to work from. As much as small famous pieces (Unit/Master Themes) are ok. a complete score, by ear, would be such a huge challenge, and very time consuming.

better use of Budget on These more difficult eras, is on PQ

Totally agree with you JL – think you’re more or less spot on with your predictions of what’s coming next / the release order for the next couple of years. Season 17 later this year, hold off Season 20 until 2023 – maybe Season 21 in 2022 instead? Also Seasons 11 and 15 next year, Seasons 9, 16, 20 and 22 in 2023 and Seasons 7, 13 and 25 in 2024. The Black and White Seasons I think will now be left until 2025 / 2026 until all the animations / reconstructions have been completed to a satisfactory degree. Although Season 1 with an animated Marco Polo might be a surprise release in 2023? It’s fun to speculate isn’t it :-)?

So maybe we are talking about say November release. I hope we may get a another Tom Baker season before then.

Seeing as we have had a pattern of a Tom Baker release every year I could see that as next one then hopefully Season 20 after

It all depends on how the roadmap proceeds, what the situation is in the Netherlands, what post-brexit barriers/regulations are in place and covid restrictions that remain in place whether filming for a short video feature can go ahead.

I think that 2022 would be the earliest possible release. In which case they might as well realease in 2023 for the 60th, and its 40th, anniversary.

If it is now unfeasible to make the feature for whatever reason, release could be this year all other work on the set having been done.

I’m thinking Season 20 will slip into early next year. Hoping for Season 17 in September. Fingers Crossed :-)!

I know this a way off, but do you reckon we could see season 11 released late 2023, if not season 1, to coincide with Sarah Jane’s debut, or perhaps early 2024? Also, if we do get a 4th doctor release later this year, which season do you reckon we’ll get? I’m hoping to see season 17, not the best but I adore watching it, plus it may be nice to release this year as Lalla Ward turns 70.

Then next year we could see Season 20, Season 9 and either Season 15/16, leaving 2 seasons of Pertwee and Tom Baker left, and 1 each of Davison, Colin Baker and McCoy, plus seasons 1-6, though it would be a nice surprise to see one of either Seasons 2,5 or 6 get released, depending on whether they will wait for animations to be complete or not. If the rumour of Abominable being animated soon is true, and with the recent Web of Fear announcement, Season 5 would only require Wheel to be done

Just think when season 17 is released it will be complete for the first time. With Shada finishing the season as originally intended. I feel sure if it had been shown back in early 1980 ,the season would have been more highly regarded. Though season 17 is not my favourite season by along way I still forward to it’s release.

Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves with the roadmap. Pete x is quite right. In England Restrictions might be getting completely lifted on 21st of June but that all depends on how things go in the next 4 months. 21st of June is the earliest possible date. If cases and hospital cases rises with things opening up again and if it’s high enough it could put that date in jeopardy and it get pushed to later in the year. Even if England does lift its restrictions you still have the restrictions for France Belgium and the Netherlands to deal with as a road trip to Amsterdam would be driving through those countries. That’s not forgetting all the new red tape that would need to get through with the after effects of brexit. There is a lot to get through before we reach that point

Think it’s possible they might hold off doing season 17 for possible Paris filming for city of death. If they are going to do another Tom I’d say 15 as it’s good to get Tom and Louise while they are available. Louise did post on twitter the other week that she was working with Tom and was sworn to secrecy on what it was. Could always be for big finish though. It’s hard to say after that as I’d say season 20 but it might not be filmable then. I’d say 22 but then there is the possibility they might want to film in spain for the 2 doctors

I still think Season 16 will be the next 4th Doctor release as it would be good to space the companions out.

Time will tell, it always does.

For what it is worth , I think is way too soon to allow foreign travel this summer . So maybe be season 16 would be the best option, it certainly the best season of the Williams era. And Gordon don’t get me started on Brexit!

Had a look at the zoom site now that it’s officially been taken over. It’s pretty identical layout to what it was before. There is a lot of new preorders but looking at the prices even with the 10 percent discount which you are still cheaper going elsewhere. There is nothing bbc related at present but that could always change. They are also only excepting PayPal at the moment.

I spoke to them on the phone. Their aim is to increase their catalogue to where it was before but they have to renegotiate with their suppliers. She said theres lots of legal issues to be resolved.

Seen someone mention on twitter that Apparently they are planning on selling doctor who material again but are unsure when that will be. Will be interesting to see their prices when they do get who stuff again as their current prices of things are ridiculously overpriced compared with other places

Give them a chance, they’ve only been up and running 2 days. Some of their BFI prices are the same as Amazon and Zavvi so I’ll be giving them my custom.

Things take time however they also need to make a good first impression and considering how over priced everything looked at first and some still do they just didn’t do that. I have noticed some of the prices have dropped since they opened. I feel this should have been sorted before they opened. One of the most important thing on any site is the prices. If it meant they had to delay the launch then so be it. They may become good but the jury is still out on them.
