Orered from Zaavi they seemed to be the cheapest option. Noticed while I was there that the release for the Big Chief figures theyre selling is still the 30th plenty of time for it to change though.

I love this season I watched it on TV as a kid it was scary and great fun!
Great to see Peri here again and to know she carried on having adventures after we last saw her.
I will wait for the standard version as that’s what I’m collecting but I can’t wait I loved 6 and Peri together!

Even more exciting! So that’s four extended episodes!
This range is really capitalising on a lot of Who! We have had so many various editions of stories to really give a choice of viewing and include at least something for everyone (hopefully). How many extended episodes is this now?
Season 8 – The Vampires from Space [Claws of Axos Extended episode 1]
      Season 10 – none?
      Season 12 – none?
      Season 14 – none?
Season 17 – the creature from the Pit episode 1
      Season 18 – none?
      Season 19 – black orchid 1+2
Season 22 – revelation 1, mark of the rani 1, vengeance on varos 1-2
      Season 23 – all 14
      Season 24 – all 14
Season 26 – ghost light 1-3, any more?

Don’t forget the extended VHS and Movie versions of ‘Battlefield’ and ‘The Curse Of Fenric’, which are included on the Season 26 boxset. There’s also an early cut version of ‘Carnival Of Monsters – Episode 2’, which includes additional scenes.

Plus, it’s the first episode of ‘The Two Doctors’ that’s been extended, not ‘The Mark Of The Rani’, whilst the second episode of ‘Black Orchid’ isn’t extended at all.

On the Mark of the rani DVD there were some deleted scenes from part 1 but perhaps they aren’t in very good quality or something to have an extended part 1 of Mark of the Rani

A massively underrated season mainly criticised for the violence, but I always agreed with Eric Saward that the justification for that was to show the consequences of it.
As a 9 year old watching in 85, the series was never better than this & never the same after. I enjoyed bits of Trial & the McCoy era, but didn’t understand why it was rested at the time & then split in half on it’s return!
I still think Vengeance & Revelation are up there with the greats. Although I can see it faults now, absolutely loved Timelash at the time & my 4 year old little Brother was petrified of the Blue Android, when we’d watch it over & over on the families VHS recorder.
Troughton/Hines returning, Daleks, Davros, Cyberman, Sontarans, Seville, Lytton’s reappearance/demise & 2 of the main actors from Blakes 7. What is not to love about this amazing season! I also discovered the meaning of the school boy crush with the gorgeous Nicola Bryant & the Doctor himself Colin Baker was pretty great to be honest!
Can not wait to gorge on this sublime series of Who! Bring on number 22!

I would’ve been 11 when this season went out.
It was the 1st season I was able to video and vividly remember watching the episode again each Sunday Morning!!
The cancellation crisis damaged the classic series almost beyond repair!!

(You youngsters) I’d be around 18 when this Season first aired. Wasn’t a fan of the 6th Doctor. A rarity at the time, as he was the only Doctor I had ever disliked. He came across as Arrogant, ignorant, self obsessed even Evil.
However, over the years I think Colin Baker as done more for Championing Dr Who than anyone else. He comes across as a great Chap and watching these Seasons again many years later I actually quite enjoy them.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      January 20th, 2022 - 9:04pm

I appreciate people’s fondness for eras they watched when they were kids I have same affection for the McCoy years so I am probably a few years younger
I disagree with the Saward point, crushing hands until they bleed and showing the blood is simply no suitable for younger viewers nor are acid baths. His relationship with JNT was in turmoil, he did not think Colin Baker was a very good choice, no one knew what to do with his doctor, the writing was all over the place and the costume speaks for itself.
Attack of the Cybermen is awful and so disappointing after the excellent Earthshock. Ian Levine has popped in with a shopping list of all the Cybermen references and they have blodged them together in a messy script which makes no since.
Vengeance on Varos and Revelation of the Daleks are both excellent I grant you. Timelash I have a soft spot for because I don’t think it’s as bad as it’s reputation and like Twin Dilemma if you don’t take it too seriously it’s quite entertaining. Mark of the Rani is silly and makes the Master look like a clown. The Two Doctors is poor, not even Robert Holmes and the legendary Patrick Troughton can save it. JNT desire to film in Spain has no relevance to the story, the sontarans are superfluous and offer very little. There’s a very good ideas trying to get out but no real structure and it’s too long. In all Saward’s interviews he does nothing but complain about JNT and his writers, series 20-22 suffer badly from their poor relationship, 22 more than the others because they did not work together to create a decent Doctor for Colin to work with. Ironically Colin Baker’s doctor is much better in 23 but there was irreparable damage before and he was doomed the minute he dressed up like a rainbow and strangled Peri

@The West Lodge Agreed many dark moments in this season, but didn’t we have many of these moments previously with Classic Who – Some that spring to mind are the blending machine from The Seeds of Doom, the knife scene in The Edge of Destruction, stories likeThe Crusade, The Ambassadors of death. I think although the focus is usually on Seasons 21,22, I’d say it pretty much goes back to the beginning.

Looks like another great set! In terms of artwork it might be my favourite yet! But they always look fab!

These sets really are everything fans could wish for! I hope the care and attention that goes into them continues! Great that they seem to have got more of a balance between supply and demand now too.

The trailer was pretty impressive too.

I’ve only watch Attack of the Cybermen from this set and although it had it’s moments, it’s not one of my favourites. Hope I can find a Colin Baker story I like though as always thought he’s been a fab ambassador for the show! I’m looking forward to working my way through, and even if when I don’t enjoy the stories, I enjoy watching the behind the scenes stuff!

For me personally S22 is a very risky, challenging, but in the end rewarding take on The Doctor/Companion connection.

If you previously watched Season 21, you begin to see a little bit of urgency and darkness start to really affect the Doctor, and it sortof provides the context of what the character becomes in The Twin Dillema.

I would recommend watching S21-S22 stories all in order without checking reviews. I was very pleasantly surprised with just about all of the stories from both Seasons, despite what years and years of tv critics have said or written about what we should and shouldn’t appreciate in a story.

Not unexpected that Pat isn’t on the cover (unfortunately) , surprised Davros didn’t make it though – still a nice cover despite the absences. Stike takes a commanding position and looks excellent. Sil seems t have been diminshed considering what a superb character he is. An enjoyable season better than most of the stuff since – but no doubt there’ll be a few people having a go at Timelash again. Dare I say it’s still better than anything in the last season.

This may seem like a simple / obvious question but what is the difference between the Limited Edition Packaging and the Standard Release Packaging? And if anyone has any tips on how to spot these differences then that would be much appreciated.

The limited is bigger and the booklet inside has more photos and details about the stories etc too. The standard edition will be about £38 or so but not released until the limited are sold out.

They tend to include material broadcast contemporaneously with its respective season. So I’m thinking the two Pertwee radio series from the 90s will help to pad out the McGann/Wilderness Years set. I could be wrong, but as long as they turn up on one collection I’ll be happy.

    • DP Hill

      January 21st, 2022 - 3:51pm

If only we had more animations, slipback, pescatons, and the nineties pertwee could get animated – I feel like a long way in the future we will probably get these after the main lot are done – but i agree, I think they may include some references and bits to it in sn11 but probably a WY set is more likely

First and foremost, outstanding artwork (inside and out) by Lee Binding.

I’m in agreement with Star Lord below, lovely covers for both Season 17 and now 22 of recent. From an arty perspective, it’s interesting that both Colin sets will share the glowing red logo (which looks great, really helps the logo stand out) wheras the other Doctors’ blu ray logos change glow colours from greens, blues, etc – I wonder if Season 20 will be a sortof gold? Who knows.

Youtube trailer was very engaging and nicely edited as usual, equally as much as Season 17’s trailer. The amount of extras, and 99.9% of everything brought over from the dvds altogether – I mean the quotes in the video speak for themselves, it’s so much material isn’t it?

From unfortunate experience with damaged parcels, I will be ordering my copy from an alternative to Amazon – 3 lots of Season box sets arrived completely broken in transit over Christmas, due to the new packaging design Amazon uses broadly for similar sized items – equating to the thickness of a thin cereal box.

It’s a shame given Amazon’s previous packaging in early 2021 was very reasonable, padded and durable. Who knows, packing may be revised in the future. Customer support was very very good on every single occasion.

Looking forward to this box set!

I’m a bit lost as to what you mean regarding the “glowing red logo” on the sets with the others being green and blue?

    • Mark

      January 20th, 2022 - 11:10pm

@D84, So the glow I refer to is the soft outline colour on the main “Doctor Who Collection” logo on the front cover of each collection box set – I should have stated that this seems to be a Uk only logo effect, since the Usa covers are just the white font with maybe a black drop shadow.

So on these Uk sets, I’d say S8, 17, 22 and 23 have the more pronounced glows, but these are the others (I understand colour can be subjective but heres what I make it to be)

      Season 8: Orange
      Season 10: Yellow/orange
      Season 12: Light Purple
      Season 14: Turqoise
      Season 17: Green
      Season 18: Purple
      Season 19: Blue
      Season 22: Red
      Season 23: Red
      Season 24: Dark Pink
      Season 26: Light Green

      January 21st, 2022 - 4:14pm

@D84 It’s very likely that I’m overthinking it haha!

I’ve zero clue if the red to red logo for Colin’s era was intentional by Lee Binding, but I thought creatively it was the icing on the cake.

As many have already said, these artworks are getting better and better!

Erato, this is a reference to A Fix With Sontarans, and someone we would all rather not see. Not Michael Grade!

Lee Binding’s talent knows no bounds, might be my favourite of all The Collection covers so far.

I was very surprised to see its inclusion! As you say possibly some editing required.

Soif this trailer supposedly is set after ‘Her Final Flight’ but Peri tells the 6th Doctor ‘what a mistake that was’ referring to her marriage to Yrcanos, then why return to krontep to remind herself? Nice enough trailer but why include Michael Grade in this celebration who ground his axe and called for the sacking of dear colin Baker?. I suppose it makes sense to upgrade those Timelash effects which can only boost that story, shame they couldn,t do anything about the acting and dialogue which was and still is terrible. Love the look of the location filming for ‘Mark’ and ‘revelation’ at Ironbridge and butser hill.
Looking like the violence scenes on behind the sofa hasn,t gone down too well with Wendy padbury.

Regardless of what we think of grade I think it’s good that they have been able to interview him. It means we can get his side of events even if we don’t agree with him on it. I’m just amazed that he actually agreed to be on it. I never in a million years thought they would ever be able to get him

I suppose he agreed to it since he’s appeared in interviews with Davies and Moffat before and spoke out about how he’s quite impressed with the quality of nu-Who.

Gordon we got what he actually thought of Classic Who on Room 101 and Paul Merton played devils advocate and dumped the TARDIS in there for his pleasure.

That’s going to be an interesting watch for sure!
The fact we have 3 interviewers from Matthew sweet is a massive treat, this is probably my favourite set so far. Also that artwork 😮

But that’s a 20 year old 5 minute jokey segment on a comedy show that probably will never be part of the blu range. This will be an actual serious interview and it will give a chance for Mathew sweet to push him on the decisions he made and opinions he had 35 plus years ago.

And i can imagine the probing questions Matthew Sweet will ask him which will probably be to do with the sweeping changes that occured during the mid 80s, BBC program budget allocations Competition with massively bugeted american TV and rival homegrown TV including soaps and his disdain for all things Sci-fi and especially sci-fi that couldn,t keep up with the times and his willingness to see the show fail. It will also be interesting to hear his thoughts on Nu-Who and how he admires the show more since it came back and whether he thinks it has gone into decline again and should be rested.

I think it will be interesting to hear more from grade, although I will never forgive him for what he did. 3 in conversations is amazing especially as I thought the Colin Baker in conversation would be on season 21

It’s a massive leap but Padbury mentions Quarks in the trailer, perhaps they are fresh in her head after doing Behind the Sofa for series six?
