About the Set

The set includes two Cyberman figures, created from an entirely new digital sculpt. These new figures feature multiple articulation points, as well as the now customary higher specification decoration for which this Vortex range is renowned. Intricate in its styling, the Cyberman are articulated with a ball-pivot neck, wrists, chest and ankles, ball-jointed shoulders, and hips, as well as internal pins in the elbows, and knees. They have the slightly darker under armour contrasting with the metallic armour plates of the outer suit, as well as the open white/blue ‘chest light’ that is distinctive to this ‘Dark Waters/ Death in Heaven’ Cyberman variant.

Each figure comes packed with a standard left and right arm, as well as an alternative replaceable lower right forearm accessory allowing them to be displayed with their Cyber Gun weapons in the ‘deployed’ position.

For the first time in 17 years, this pack also comes with the first key part of the ‘Collect & Build’, ‘Abominable Snowman’ (1967) figure: the Yeti’s Head. Each subsequent set will be issued with one new additional part of the mighty ‘Yeti’ for fans to collect, with the remaining arms, hips with legs and upper torso parts to be spread across the remaining four sets.

Cybermen and their evolution in the episode; Dark Water (2014)

In the, Classic Doctor Who series the Cybermen were portrayed as alien cyborgs; whereas in the new series, they were specifically human cyborgs. Series 7 of the contemporary series of Doctor Who introduced a new variant Cybermen in the Eleventh Doctor story Nightmare in Silver. This depiction fused these two origin stories, and moving away from the long-standing image of ‘lumbering silver giants’, instead presenting the Cybermen as sleeker, purposeful, and capable of a startling speed of movement.

These Cybermen would then return during the Twelfth Doctor’s era and the episode Dark Water in 2014, where their overall design remained largely intact, though small subtle differences had happened. The opening and closing “iris” around the chest light had disappeared, and their armour colour was given slight gunmetal upgrade with subtle weathering. Their movement reverted to a more traditional, methodical approach. Created by ‘Missy’ a rogue Time Lord, yet another new capability was added with the addition of flight thrusters in their lower legs.

Yet another Cyber-Variant of this design, appeared in a final confrontation with the Twelfth Doctor, aboard a colony ship full of refugees from the planet Mondas. With parts of the ship existing in entirely different time zones, the Mondasians evolved into various Cyber ‘styles’ including the Tenth Planet/Nightmare/Dark Water and Death in Heaven versions.

Al Dewar, Creative Director, Character Options, said: ‘No matter how they have changed over Doctor Who’s history, there is something entirely iconic about the Cybermen!

‘Towering, Inhuman, ruthless and brutally logical, Cybermen have been a corner part of the programme since the start. I believe those blank disk-like eyes with the single teardrop in the corner hinting at their cast-off emotional past is both hugely sad and horrific…

‘By adding to and improving themselves in a continual effort to just survive, they discarded the very thing that had made them human in the first place… and that for me is the true horror of the Cybermen. They simply cannot see what they have become, or what they have done to themselves.

‘It is evident I’m a huge fan, so when it came to adding these Cybermen to the line, although we had older digital files, it felt right to go back and recreate the Cyberman figure from scratch to improve the accuracy and details of this figure. What was startling to me when began tooling the model, was just how much articulation is achievable with this figure. It’s exceptional and the result is a pair of truly beautiful figures.’

This collect and build set will be available from 10am Monday 29th June 2026 from www.character-online.co.uk and costs just £44.99
