Character Options is delighted to release further details of the first Doctor Who Collect & Build figure set of 2026. The ‘Vortex Edition’ Cyberman Twin Pack from Dark Water (2014) wll be available Imminently exclusively online via www.character-online.com .

This limited-edition Doctor Who Collect & Build “Vortex” set is the first of five launches this year. Each pack includes one or more ‘Vortex’ figures, plus a part of the Collect & Build ‘Yeti’ figure.

About the Set

The set includes two Cyberman figures, created from an entirely new digital sculpt. These new figures feature multiple articulation points, as well as the now customary higher specification decoration for which this Vortex range is renowned. Intricate in its styling, the Cyberman are articulated with a ball-pivot neck, wrists, chest and ankles, ball-jointed shoulders, and hips, as well as internal pins in the elbows, and knees. They have the slightly darker under armour contrasting with the metallic armour plates of the outer suit, as well as the open white/blue ‘chest light’ that is distinctive to this ‘Dark Waters/ Death in Heaven’ Cyberman variant.

Each figure comes packed with a standard left and right arm, as well as an alternative replaceable lower right forearm accessory allowing them to be displayed with their Cyber Gun weapons in the ‘deployed’ position.

For the first time in 17 years, this pack also comes with the first key part of the ‘Collect & Build’, ‘Abominable Snowman’ (1967) figure: the Yeti’s Head. Each subsequent set will be issued with one new additional part of the mighty ‘Yeti’ for fans to collect, with the remaining arms, hips with legs and upper torso parts to be spread across the remaining four sets.

Product Features

  • Vortex Edition Twin Pack – Features two highly detailed Cyberman figures inspired by Dark Water (2014).
  • Premium Articulation & Sculpting – All-new digital sculpts with multiple articulation points, including ball-jointed neck, shoulders, hips, and more for dynamic posing.
  • Screen-Accurate detailing: Distinctive darker under armour, metallic outer plating, and iconic white/blue chest light true to the Dark Water / Death in Heaven design.
  • Interchangeable Weapons Display – Includes alternate forearm accessories to showcase the Cyber Gun in deployed position.
  • Collect & Build Bonus Piece – Comes with Yeti’s head from The Abominable Snowman (1967), plus collector-friendly open display packaging.

Cybermen and their evolution in the episode; Dark Water (2014)

In the, Classic Doctor Who series the Cybermen were portrayed as alien cyborgs; whereas in the new series, they were specifically human cyborgs. Series 7 of the contemporary series of Doctor Who introduced a new variant Cybermen in the Eleventh Doctor story Nightmare in Silver. This depiction fused these two origin stories, and moving away from the long-standing image of ‘lumbering silver giants’, instead presenting the Cybermen as sleeker, purposeful, and capable of a startling speed of movement.

These Cybermen would then return during the Twelfth Doctor’s era and the episode Dark Water in 2014, where their overall design remained largely intact, though small subtle differences had happened. The opening and closing “iris” around the chest light had disappeared, and their armour colour was given slight gunmetal upgrade with subtle weathering. Their movement reverted to a more traditional, methodical approach. Created by ‘Missy’ a rogue Time Lord, yet another new capability was added with the addition of flight thrusters in their lower legs.

Yet another Cyber-Variant of this design, appeared in a final confrontation with the Twelfth Doctor, aboard a colony ship full of refugees from the planet Mondas. With parts of the ship existing in entirely different time zones, the Mondasians evolved into various Cyber ‘styles’ including the Tenth Planet/Nightmare/Dark Water and Death in Heaven versions.

Al Dewar, Creative Director, Character Options, said: ‘No matter how they have changed over Doctor Who’s history, there is something entirely iconic about the Cybermen!

‘Towering, Inhuman, ruthless and brutally logical, Cybermen have been a corner part of the programme since the start. I believe those blank disk-like eyes with the single teardrop in the corner hinting at their cast-off emotional past is both hugely sad and horrific…

‘By adding to and improving themselves in a continual effort to just survive, they discarded the very thing that had made them human in the first place… and that for me is the true horror of the Cybermen. They simply cannot see what they have become, or what they have done to themselves.

‘It is evident I’m a huge fan, so when it came to adding these Cybermen to the line, although we had older digital files, it felt right to go back and recreate the Cyberman figure from scratch to improve the accuracy and details of this figure. What was startling to me when began tooling the model, was just how much articulation is achievable with this figure. It’s exceptional and the result is a pair of truly beautiful figures.’

This collect and build set will be available from 10am Monday 29th June 2026 from www.character-online.co.uk and costs just £44.99

Find out more and register – For more information on upcoming Collect & Build sets, visit www.character-online.co.uk. Here fans and collectors will be able to view pre-release imagery and video footage of the 2026 Doctor Who Vortex models.

To ensure fans have the opportunity to complete their collections, customers purchasing previous sets will receive pre-launch alert emails and a link to early access sale. Early access will be limited to accounts with a purchase history, and customers will be able to purchase up to three sets each.

Well, I think it’s fair to say this was the most successful CO Exclusive figure set they’ve ever done. Really interesting! I wonder why that is? I guess the combination of army builder, iconic monster and first piece of Collect & Build Yeti. Even the Mechanus Sets, which held the preivous record, took 2 weeks or so to sell out iirc. This is pretty wild! But I’m not convinced the next sets will be anywhere near as successful but who knows, depends how much people want Yetis I guess. Although I thought it was a bad move at first, I realise now that it was actually very clever of CO to release an army builder as the frist pack, as it slightly increases the chance of people buying more than one set of the rest of the sets by causing them to think ‘well, I have multiple Yeti heads so…’

That Yeti head in hand is quite a hefty weight. The figure when finished is going to be massive!

      July 4th, 2026 - 8:54am

Hardly the best they have ever done. 2nd doctor in coat with tardis sold out almost immediately

    • FH

      July 4th, 2026 - 2:07pm

@alphabets That’s untrue. Just checked and the 2nd doctor set took 6 days to sell out, which is a lot shorter than I remembered but hardly ‘almost immediately’ especially when comparing it to this 4 day sell out. I was wrong about the Mechanus sets holding the record then, it was the 2nd Doctor set by far until now with this Cyberman set. The only Exclusive to have sold out immediately was the 14th Doctor sonic which sold out within a day on both of the first two runs, if I recall correctly.

    • FH

      July 4th, 2026 - 3:57pm

lol I’ve just seen Al Dewar on GB saying that ‘Abominable Snowmen set beats it hands down and the 14th sonic beats that’ but I just checked the figures (if you’ll pardon the pun) and he’s simply wrong and misremembering. Which is not out of character (if you’ll pardon the pun). No offense to the guy, but he has a notoriously terrible memory. The only reason the Auton sphere is included in the Liz Shaw set is because he forgot they’d made it when they were doing the 3rd Doctor Vortex set. Not to mention he claimed recently that CO had never gotten around to doing the umbrella accessory for the 7th Doctor. You know, the accessory that has come with many 7th Doctor releases…

      July 3rd, 2026 - 5:18pm

Their factory has a minimum order requirement of 3000 sets, and the initial order is not much more than that. You’d have to sell the same amount of stock all over again, which is why you won’t see any restocks.

    • FH

      July 3rd, 2026 - 5:22pm

I’m curious, is there a reason that they never do it for figure sets? Like how they did two reruns of the 14th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver due to it selling out so quick initially. What sets them apart from the figures? With these sets I can understand it though as there’d then be an imbalance of Yeti parts in the world, but I do wonder if there’s something stopping non-collect-and-build sets from ever having a rerun if they ever sold out extremely quickly like this one did.

    • Scotel

      July 3rd, 2026 - 5:48pm

On a technical level nothing, on a practical level you need to sell 3000 more sets which there’s no guarantee of there being the market for. A limited run that sells out is better than taking the risk and being left with 2000 sets sitting in their warehouse.

The sonics are a completely different market that appeal to a completely different audience that they can more easily sell to retailers.

Hopefully everyone that wants to build a Full Yeti will be able to get all the Sets easy enough. I should imagine some of the others wont sell as Quick.

Wow. They look beautiful, huge shout out for the details. The back exoskeleton and lines are superb. Fine tiny lines around the head. The ball type joints
Are superb and have a lock point to get you back to boxed positions.

Gun arm is so easy to change. Getting them out of the box was the hardest part. Had to get stephen to do it.

Yeti head is lovely but needs another bit to look more than a spare part the sculpt is beautiful, feels a bit more skilliter Snowmen reprint cover, than what we saw on screen.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a CO exclusive sell out so quickly. Even the Master hung around for a couple of weeks I believe. But 5 days? Wow! It occurs to me that this set has probably been bought more in multiples than the others will. Which might mean that if the next set also sells out, there are going to be people who will be unable to get the Yeti head.

    • FH

      July 3rd, 2026 - 4:33pm

I would assume if the next sets sell out it’d be due to people who already have the Yeti heads.

I think it was a lower production run as well

    • Scotel

      July 3rd, 2026 - 5:16pm

The lower production run is really not that big a factor. While we don’t know the exact numbers the vast majority of the reduction was down to losing the US (or at the very least absorbed by losing it).

      Sausage.

You could buy as many as you wanted. But had to do 3 at a time for the individual order limit.

So if you wanted 10 sets you could just put an order in 4 times.

    • FH

      July 4th, 2026 - 12:20am

I kind of don’t see the point of them having an individual order limit if you can just make as many orders as you want.
I was tempted to get a fourth myself to increase my Cyber Army but decided not to as I assumed it’d be cancelled haha.

Do you think these Sets could be sold in Shops like before. Or are most Shops (Big And Small) wary of Dr Who Figures now, thinking they will be left with lots of stock. So Character Options only route now is selling Direct? I know Budget sets are still sold at B&M shops but I was thinking more of these more Expensive Figures.

High street retailers aren’t that interested, maybe with a new Doctor you’d get a few new figures in Argos or Forbidden Planet, but legacy stuff no chance.

    • War Chief.

      July 2nd, 2026 - 2:26pm

Speaking as an old fogey, I’d love the Forbidden Planet to start selling Dr Who stuff again….
I’m deeply mistrustful of all this online stuff…but for Dr Who, it’s a necessary evil…
Maybe these sonic screwdrivers will be for sale in the FP….?

    • Scotel

      July 2nd, 2026 - 2:44pm

Toy sales are down across the board, take a walk into your local supermarket and see what the toy aisle looks like today compared to 20-30 years ago.

This isn’t a Doctor Who problem, the entire action figure market is almost exclusively aimed at collectors now and if you are aiming at collectors why bother with the high street when you can sell direct to customer and get a better profit margin?

    • Rob

      July 2nd, 2026 - 4:55pm

Scotel is right, once there were lots of TV and film tie-in toys, but now Smyths and the Entertainer have less each year.

    • Amypondfan

      July 2nd, 2026 - 5:12pm

Its the old catch-22 thing. Years ago toys are popular across genres, film, TV etc. Then popularity wanes but people who were kids when they started getting toys are now older and want to collect toys. But because they aren’t as popular there aren’t many made so they are more expensive. Because they are expensive only collectors can afford them so even less are made and they become even more expensive! As has been pointed out this is across the board not just who toys. In fact in comparison with other ranges the who ones are good value as you get multiply figures for the same price as single figures in other genres.

Thank you for letting us know! Was going to wait, but now that I know it truly is moving so quickly I’ve made my order. No offense to Character but many times they’ve said ‘oh it’s selling out! hardly any units left!’ and then it’s stuck around for months after, so normally I see all this as just FOMO marketing. But ‘less than 300’ is a solid statistic, so I can get behind that. Plus I still feel stung by them due to ordering the Wrath Warriors, a set I wasn’t particularly interested in, now to know I could’ve saved over £20 if I’d just waited a couple of months.

    • Rob

      July 2nd, 2026 - 2:11pm

It depends on how many figures made and how popular the characters are. Tegan is still for sale at full price because they probably have quite a few left, as they couldnt export to the US. I think because of that the amount will be less this time.

I don’t understand why Gatwi is getting another figure that I will have to buy to get the yeti part, I will have to sell it on. When there still are Gatwi figures on the website! Just because they can fling out two 2D plastic figures with it!

    • FH

      July 2nd, 2026 - 2:15pm

I’m still baffled as to why they gave up so quickly with the Wrath Warrior set and put it half-price after a couple of months, yet that Gatwa two-pack is still on the site two years later at full-price.

    • Rob

      July 2nd, 2026 - 2:19pm

150 left at this point according to Al on GB.

    • Rob

      July 2nd, 2026 - 2:20pm

Probably as there are loads of Wrath sets left, maybe only be a few Gatwi two packs and he is the current Doctor. Previous years they sold the stock to Forbidden Planet.

I only really want the Wirrin and the Yeti…..but in order to get the latter, i’m happy now to buy all the others….
I must admit, i’ve got the Dr Who toys fire in my nostrils again…..particularly as there hasn’t been anything to buy since January….!

Yay! Ordered!!!! And not a crash or glitch in sight! Great to hear they now have a decent server. I will now wait for Missy’s boys to arrive – hopefully minus the murderous intent. : )
Am very excited about these – love a Cyberman figure.
