December 5th, 2025 - 7:17amHaving a look at screencaps of the trailer, AI has been used heavily. You do want to give them at least the benefit of the doubt, especially since YouTube itself has implemented AI upscaling on all videos with no means of turning it off, but after looking at screenshots (especially ones where they have used it on the title sequence and it is incredibly prominent on the close-up of Peter Davison’s face), it makes it hard to want to purchase sets like these anymore.
Quite recently, Severin had released a trailer for the series The Idiot Box. You have no idea how refreshing it is to not see AI plastered all over what they were releasing. The video looks like video. I shouldn’t be surprised or as extremely delighted as I was by this. Shouldn’t this be the goal with restoring video? Why is the BBC and the restoration teams behind BBC programmes relying on this software that does nothing to improve the quality?
Gordon
December 5th, 2025 - 10:01amThere is obviously additional work done on top of the restoration work that was delivered for the trailer. It’s odd though that ai was used on the opening credits at all. Part of me feels that when they altered it to 16:9 for the trailer they may have done something else to it which does make me wonder how much of it is ai in the restoration and how much of it is in post and also YouTube’s upscaling. I’ll judge it when I see the finished product. It’s only been about 5 weeks since they started getting complaints of s13. No where near enough time to implement changes and have alternative restored footage made available for this trailer
RPG74
December 4th, 2025 - 10:13pm4.54: they’ve replaced the Myrka after all. Not sure if it’s basic CG or a new puppet, but it’s an improvement anyway. If AI doesn’t ruin everything this set might turn out to be the best ever.
RPG74
December 4th, 2025 - 10:24pmOr not re Myrka. On second thought, that could just be wishful thinking. I don’t know how they’d be able to replace the whole thing, especially in the Ingrid Pitt scene-unless they’ve done us a favour and cut that scene completely. Still, the other updated effects look good.
Prof Horner
December 5th, 2025 - 10:53amIt will be interesting to see if the FXS improve the reputation of this story. At the moment I would place it second from bottom. I look forward to seeing what they do with the dinosaurs in Invasion of the Dinosaurs. When season 11 is released.
RPG74
December 5th, 2025 - 4:17pmI don’t particularly rate the story either, it would just be nice to watch a less heinous version of it.
Gordon
December 4th, 2025 - 9:56pmThe minisode is great. Feels like a resurrection of the daleks sequel I didn’t know I needed. As for the extras I don’t know where to start. It’s crammed. New fx on 4 stories plus a special edition of warriors of the deep with new fx and 5.1 soundtrack. 3 in conversations, 2 making ofs, awakening and the five (ish) doctors commentaries and that’s before you get to the boating and weekend features.
I know some have been moaning about the ai usage. It was never going to be instantly done. Discussing and agreeing a strategy and implimenting it going forward (if there is) could take many weeks or months to agree with the higher ups. Plus this was most certainly delivered months ago and probably before season 13 hit shops. Its too early too see if they are doubling down or not on its usage. It’s probably the next one that will be more likely the litmus test as it’s far too late for 21. Just hope it isn’t a problem . I’m going to wait to see the finished product first before judging. There is some waxy looking faces but that could also have been made from the production of the trailer as we know there is additional grading and other work done for the trailer. The titles for example was altertered to fit 16:9. Who said other things weren’t also altered. Im not saying there isn’t heavily amounts of ai usage on this but I will see the finished product first before deciding. I ain’t condemning it till I see it. There is 3 months before it’s released after all
Rob
December 4th, 2025 - 10:08pmI’m not ordering it. I’m voting with my wallet.
Gordon
December 4th, 2025 - 10:20pmAnd people are free to do so if they wish
James
December 4th, 2025 - 11:51pmWish they would expand on some of these mini episodes. Love to see the full Destiny Dalek story unfold. 5 Tegan and Turlough back together.
Bumper box set though. 10 discs. Yes only 1 more disc compared to S2 and S20. Hopefully they have put some work into the boxes so they don’t buckle under the weight. Obviously going to be similar size sets for S5/6 with the animations and War Games Colour. Then s3 especially with amount of stories. Even without any new animations looking at 11/12 discs for s3 and S4.
Another colour set for the shelf. That’s the 80s set and a full run for 5, 6 and 7.
With this due mid March 2026, are we presuming the final Tom set roughly Autumn 2026? Or will they do a Troughton S5/6 to break up the 60s a bit? Or would they leave a bigger gap and wait for an animation to fill a gap for S4/5/6?
S1 most likely wait for Marco Polo to get done as it’s the very first set so be good for it to be complete in a way.
S3 way off due to Mission, Myth, MasterPlan and Massacre missing.
S4 Smugglers and Highlander missing both have photos and full soundtrack for a recon of sort. But 2 stories short so maybe wait for Smugglers animation.
S5 Wheel in Space 4 of 6 missing. Big monster in the Cybermen. So maybe wait for animation.
S6 Space Pirates 5 of 6 missing. No major monster so could get away with just the soundtrack and Frazier Hines links.
Then again maybe Film is Fabulous find a story or episodes with an announcement early next year. Give the restoration team time to clean up footage for 2027 then a late Collection set if fits 1/4/5/6.
Can’t wait
Scotel
December 5th, 2025 - 12:15amAs has been said a number of times over the years: they aren’t waiting for the animations. Holding them off for last is the best you’re going to get.
With the new animation commissioning system (assuming of course it’s happening still) they likely already know exactly what stories are coming over the next few years and by extension the Collection sets.
I also would not expect any full stories from Film is Fabulous. It’s been 40 years and we’ve never had a full story recovered from a private collection.
Lord Bourbonus
December 5th, 2025 - 12:48amAnyone complaining about the cost of these box sets… when I got my first Who dvd, it was £19.99, for one story, and that was nearly 25 years ago.
Tom Williams
December 5th, 2025 - 2:00amMy opinion I don’t see season 16 next year it would more make sense with season 11 I did see a fan made one a while ago tbh which was convincing especially would make sense after season 21 with two regenerations season 16 would be more end of year announcement I feel then out like this in march 2027 and maybe wilder years as people have said then starting 2028 more the 60s seasons
Ricky
December 5th, 2025 - 10:36amThis is one of my favourite seasons , packed to the rafters with great stories ,and with Davison his most confident and relaxed in the role .
To have most of the stories in surround sound and with the option of new effects is like a dream package for me personally, this is the season of Dr who that made the biggest impression on me back in the day .
I couldn’t of wished for a better trailer it was just perfect as I adore resurrection ,the use of Clarke’s superb music was bang on.
Snowman
December 4th, 2025 - 8:50pmI Always look Forward to New Dr Who Blu-ray Collection Releases. I just hope they Don’t go Mad with the AI Again and we have the Numerous Complaints Again.
Ano miss
December 4th, 2025 - 9:07pmtrailer looks very heavy on ai unfortunately
NickD
December 4th, 2025 - 9:33pmThe Master sadly in a few clips looks very heavily AI filtered.
Owen
December 4th, 2025 - 11:43pmVery bad Ai again
David
December 4th, 2025 - 8:08pmThe artwork on this set along with the extras look amazing. One of my favourite seasons.
Neill
December 4th, 2025 - 6:40pmLooking forward to this.
By the way anyone got any word about the Season 20 replacement disc? last I heard was two weeks ago when I enquired and said they are still collecting the info.
NickD
December 4th, 2025 - 9:33pmWhich disc is it that needs replacing? I’m getting sick of these mess ups.
Neill
December 5th, 2025 - 12:49amThey were offering replacements for those who have limited edition to get replacement discs as the standard edition has fixed the errors.
Gareth Pugh
December 4th, 2025 - 6:28pmI like the ‘half-half’ 5th and 6th faces under the clear trays. Nice touch
Nb7
December 4th, 2025 - 5:42pmSo after this season we have only 2 blu ray sets complete for release, wow how we got so far is beyond me!
I’m sure the 60s ones will be out one day but to have these gorgeous sets pretty much finished is an incredible feat. Please please please lay off the heavy ai wax look.
Babelbro
December 4th, 2025 - 6:17pmThat’s the thing – they’ve doubled down on the Ai Wax.
The title sequence is on native film and can be presented in native 1080p – yet they still went ahead and caked it in Ai slop.
Peter Davison’s eyebrows literally have vanished in a close up of his face when he’s standing in the Tardis.
Whole things a joke.
John
December 4th, 2025 - 7:53pmCount me in on the AI hate. Please go back to the drawing board wherever possible with these. Twin Dilemma Peri and Planet of Fire Master look very strange. And the Logopolis footage just looks wrong.
Things that go bump in the night
December 4th, 2025 - 5:28pmBrilliant… really enjoyed the new mini-adventure. Nicely put together.
Have now pre-ordered.
As per my recent discussion with Paul Vanesiz, this is expected to be the best looking yet! There is also an amazing amount of extra content, ever expected the five(ish) doctors reboot on this set.
Tony c
December 4th, 2025 - 5:32pmA great pity, Paul v, not done this set, and season 13, which was awful.. take a look at blakes 7, season 2, done by Paul. 5 star excellence!!! I’ve been told, season 21, same lines as 13.. doesn’t bode well..
Things that go bump in the night
December 4th, 2025 - 6:48pm@ Tony c…. How do you know that Paul V is not involved in this set?
Seems from the conversation I had with him, that Paul has indeed been involved in supporting this set’s episodes restoration and remastering for Blu-Ray.
I guess the pixel peepers and naysayers don’t need to buy this set if they are so unhappy.
ChrisP
December 4th, 2025 - 7:56pmLooks great.
But I hope the picture restoration is like Blakes 7 rather than season 13.
Will be gutting if Androzani’s film sequences are waxy faced like the Android Invasion.
Tony c
December 4th, 2025 - 9:01pm. things that go clang in the night err.. just by looking at the trailer.. poor… like I stated.. blakes excellent all through.. if trailer looking like this, heaven help the complete set.. so , would be surprised if Paul had anything to do with it.. especially, after knowing the chap for 40 years plus
Babelbro
December 4th, 2025 - 4:28pmOh well, appears to be another Ai waxy abomination.
This is disgraceful. It makes Ian Levine’s Ai ‘masterpieces’ look half competent.
How can you charge £58 for this mess? Just switch these disgusting filters off.
There’s even Ai on the title sequence – that was shot on FILM! They really are mocking their customers with this. Seriously.
As Peri would say, “YUCK!”
Missyrules
December 4th, 2025 - 10:00pmNah, nothing could make his ai look competent lol. The trailers often look worse than the finished product so we will just have to wait and see if it’s ai heavy
AnaBear
December 4th, 2025 - 11:21pmI will say that YouTube is also partially to blame as well. Unfortunately, they have added an upscaling feature on every video with no way of turning it off.
Steven Taylor
December 4th, 2025 - 3:14pmOff topic but will the 2025 Sea Devils get a DVD release?
Whofan44
December 4th, 2025 - 3:19pmBenjamin Cook said on bluesky that it would be on The War Between the Land and Sea release
Steven Taylor
December 4th, 2025 - 3:39pmCool, Thank you for your reply
DPHill
December 4th, 2025 - 3:11pmWell this is a little early surprise I wasn’t expecting announced today!
10 discs – TEN! wow!
So many new versions of old stories, the originals, old features plus so many new ones! This set I am very excited for – one whole decade of who on the collection shelf now! I wonder if there any last minute additions like extended awakening announced just before release. They really went all out on this one, largest set so far! Guess it is good to prepare for those 60s seasons a few of which will definitely get into the double figures.
I have just watched this season with my partner and I said as soon as we finish I bet they’ll announce this as coming out, finished twin dilemma the other day and would you look at that!?
David Minter
December 4th, 2025 - 2:51pmMark one more Blu-Ray Season I needed off my list. I needed the Resurrection Of The Daleks season. I think this just leaves the Death To The Daleks season and the Key To Time that I need for The Pirate Planet. And whatever they decide to do in the future for the other 1st and 2nd Doctor seasons besides Hartnell Season 2 because of the sheer amount of missing episodes.
The ergon
December 4th, 2025 - 2:32pmPretty impressive, though i would have liked the effects for planet of fire to have been included or previous effects added to the four parter rather than the previous special edition.
So much to look forward to on this. Without a doubt my favourite 5th doctor series.
Brave Heart Tegan
December 4th, 2025 - 5:19pmExcellent trailer! Looking forward to this. A superb season.
The ergon
December 4th, 2025 - 7:21pmI cant wait to see how they get around solows karate kick and the ‘close your eyes and wish for luck’ scenes.
Chris neal
December 4th, 2025 - 2:31pmHave to wait til march, what a joke
Paul
December 4th, 2025 - 4:37pm102 Days to wait for release is pretty average for most Collection sets. Longest time to wait for a set was Season 24 from January to June, 158 Days in total. By comparison, Season 21 won’t be long to wait for.
Gareth
December 4th, 2025 - 6:21pmNot sure why it’s ’a joke’. These are always announced at least 3 months in advance. It’s still being worked on. Nothing unusual or unimpressive about that is there?
Clay
December 4th, 2025 - 7:05pmIt’s better than usual imo. Generally we get the announcement and the set goes up for pre-order without a release date; a couple months later they confirm the date; a couple months after that it’s released. iirc his is the first time we’ve had the date confirmed alongside the announcement since before the pandemic
Bob
December 4th, 2025 - 2:20pmThey seem to have gone all out on this one, updated effects on every story except Planet of Fire and The Caves of Androzani, perhaps updated effects on the entirety of Season 16 isn’t completely out of the question.
Could just be the YouTube upload or maybe I’m being paranoid after Season 13 but the trailer footage looked weirdly smooth. Season 21 is when they started using lower quality videotape so less detail is to be expected but Seasons 22-26 don’t look like this.
I don’t think this will be a pre-order for me, I’ll wait for reviews first.
Bob
December 4th, 2025 - 2:36pmI meant to say The Twin Dilemma in the first paragraph, not The Caves of Androzani. I guess you could argue that Planet of Fire already has updated effects as part of the DVD special edition although I don’t recall them being particularly favoured.
Gordon
December 4th, 2025 - 2:43pmThey do have 16 mm film sequences for awakening, planet of fire caves of androzani and twin dilemma. Fronitos doesn’t have any film sequences and from memory warriors only has a couple of 16 mm shots which weren’t kept. Seeing as I found it most noticeable on the film sequences they don’t already have resurrection is the one to keep an eye on
Gordon
December 4th, 2025 - 2:44pmFound the ai usage most noticable I mean
Lee B
December 4th, 2025 - 1:41pmI really hope we’re going to get a CGI magma beast! It is the only weak point in Caves of Androzani for me.
Can’t wait for this set!!
Lee B
December 4th, 2025 - 1:47pmSorry guys just saw it in the trailer that we are getting an updated magma beast! Yesssss!!
The ergon
December 4th, 2025 - 2:26pmI still have love for the original magma creature.
MaxPunk57
December 4th, 2025 - 1:35pmReally excited for this Boxset. However not to bring down the party. I really hope they learned their lesson with season 13’s A.I generated upscale and Hopefully season 21 doesn’t follow the same fate. So far from the trailer it looks really good.
Leroy
December 4th, 2025 - 1:34pmThese are starting to get pricey now.
£58. !!!
It won’t be long before they pass the £60 mark.
Tom Williams
December 4th, 2025 - 3:51pmIn fairness I think this one is more compared too the last recent ones due too a extra disc that’s been added which is understandable considering land of sea steelbook that is infact 44.99 instead
Bob
December 4th, 2025 - 5:21pmThere is a lot of content on this boxset but some of it does feel like filler. Having Tales of the TARDIS: Earthshock in its entirety instead of just the bookends does feel like overkill. I personally would’ve been happy with less features for a lower price, but then again, this might just become the new price regardless of the amount of discs.
Tom Williams
December 4th, 2025 - 6:31pm@Bob or an increase for the new set price especially in the future compared too the other seasons coming up one day I think we will see it as the highest off 64.99 for season 6 ? Especially now looking back at season 20 on h web that is the price I said which is now gone up so much since that came out
War Chief.
December 4th, 2025 - 1:26pmExcellant series…..!
Watched it in 1984……(well, so did everyone else, i suppose…)
I was doing my O levels……and reading George Orwell’s 1984…..!
Got them all on video, however…..
Not to be pedantic, i think the 5th Doctor’s sonic screwdriver had been zapped by this time…..
Peter
December 4th, 2025 - 6:36pmIt’s many years later for the characters though: they comment on their appearances as they’ve aged, plus how the sonic screw driver “never used” to work (past tense). So here, the 5th Doc has simply acquired a supposedly more souped-up one since his first set of travels with Tegan.
When do we expect the Big Finish follow-up when they explore the story of the Daleks having invaded Trion?
Also, I think Pete McTighe is going to be the next showrunner.
Timelord1963
December 4th, 2025 - 1:11pmLooks and sounds fantastic. Great to see the little minisode trailers back.
Auton
December 4th, 2025 - 12:47pmCould be one of the best set yet! The amount of new special features
Daniel
December 4th, 2025 - 12:42pmAmazing mini episode/trailer. I really like the 5th Doctor’s new sonic screwdriver. I’m a bit surprised that Planet of Fire doesn’t have updated effects on the broadcast version. Enlightenment did on the Season 20 Collection
Prof Horner
December 4th, 2025 - 6:16pmWell they certainly have pushed the boat out for this release. I hope they do the same for the last Pertwee season 11. Look forward to look who’s boating with Peter, Janet and the lovely Sarah. This a bit of sad season for me as it was the last season I enjoyed on original transmission. Let’s hope this the first of the goodies we can look forward to in 2026
Andy
December 4th, 2025 - 12:39pmThis looks fantastic can’t wait to get this thought it might be season 21 that completes 5th and the 6th Doctors on the Blu-ray Collection yeah roll on Christmas then March for this absolutely great early Christmas announcement.

December 4th, 2025 - 12:33pmOrdered it off Amazon again . It says 16th of March. Just got a bookcase to display all the season box set face out looking.
Tom Williams
December 4th, 2025 - 12:42pmRarewaves also confirmed the date by the looks off it especially now we are getting a 10 discs one for first time
Fred
December 4th, 2025 - 12:33pmBrilliant! Easily my favourite Davison season—The Awakening and The Caves of Androzani are classics, and Frontios and Planet of Fire are pretty meaty too. Look forward to the updated special effects—although I’m getting less and less patient when it comes to waiting two years for the cheaper version…
Tom Williams
December 4th, 2025 - 12:24pmJust ordered this off h very exciting too get this before Sunday now and especially it looks like 10 discs for a change ?
