The 7 VHS tapes that got released in the 90s (daleks, cybermen, Hartnell, troughton, Pertwee, baker and baker), will they all be Included on any Collection sets?
Daleks could go on 1,3,or 4 (most likely 1 or 4 as 3 quite a big set already)
Cybermen could go on 4,5, or 6
Hartnell 1,3 or 4 (most likely 1 or 4 as 3 already quite a bit set)
Troughton 4,5 or 6
Pertwee on s8

February 24th, 2026 - 11:13pmThe daleks one (or at least a condensed version using clips instead of full episodes) was put on the power of the Daleks special edition so probably 4.
The cybermen one hasn’t appeared though I suspect it could appear on an animated wheel release similar to how the Daleks one was clips instead of full eps. Then s5
The majority of the Hartnell tape intros has been released. wheel of fortune intro was on season 2 and the crusade disc. The final test intro was on the animated celestial toymaker release and will be on season 3. Just remaining is the intro to the pilot episode which should be on season 1.
The majority of the individual Troughton years intros has been released on the abominable snowman and enemy of the world special edition releases. The space pirates intro should be on the space pirates animation.
The 3 individual intros to the Pertwee years tape have been released on their respective season inferno (season 7 disc 5) daemons (season 8 disc 6) frontier in space (season 10 disc 3) though there is 1 or 2 other clips still unreleased I think.
The Tom baker years is on the sontaran experiment (season 12 disc 3) in full.
The Colin baker years is on the second vengeance on varos disc with the fix it section edited (season 22 disc 3)

With this being the first standard edition I’ve seen in hand I still prefer the limited packaging, the artwork just pops more and the booklet is much better.

I also didn’t get any email or tracking notice, but it came well packaged and in great shape so I’m pleased. What surprised me is that I got it so fast since I’m in the states, I figured it would take a while to get here, so I’m really shocked to have it in hand already.

I was just wondering How many Blu-Ray: The Collection Limited Edition Box Sets have had mistakes with the discs contents, and which releases were these ?
As I vaguely remember requesting replacements discs for the Original Season 12 Blu-Ray Boxset, but cannot remember doing it in the years since for any of the subsequent box-sets.
If anyone has a list of all affected releases, I would be very grateful as I might as well and try to get the replacement disc(s) from the BBC via the DVD Support Email Address.

There is also a missing CGI shot at the very end of Revelation of the Daleks Part Two on both the limited and standard versions of Season 22. The original DVD of Revelation is fine however.

February 24th, 2026 - 10:09amThere was audio issues on sontaran experiment where during Part One there was out of phase audio which was fixed for the replacement.
There was a credit typo with Michael Wisher on ep 1 of revenge. Ian marter’s credit on ep 3 overlaps. There was also missing new fx on revenge. The majority was fixed for the replacement discs bar one shot.

February 19th, 2026 - 2:13amI’m no fan of the TV movie but nevertheless, I’ve yet to read anything regarding the condition of the 35mm negatives but wow. Talk about a well kept secret, despite every other Doctor Who project leaking out literally everywhere every second of the day!
For the fans that absolutely love this movie I’m really happy for them right now. The previous versions, while stuck in SD, it was the subsequent re-renderings (so to speak) that really wrecked the condition of those broadcast masters, made even worse by the last UK Blu-ray release that fans had to clean up themselves into some watchable semblance.
It’s a total miracle that this story managed to stay in keeping with the canon given the hundreds of moving gears around it (Classic Who, New Who, Fox, BBC, creatives wanting to reboot it, get Tom Baker in, screw the canon up, etc.) I really commend the team that worked on this that defied all of that, and gave Sylvester McCoy his sendoff moment however brief it was, and ensured Paul McGann became the *Eighth* Doctor. Sure the TV series didn’t happen and this ‘movie’ was merely intended as a Pilot, but it doesn’t diminish that etheral film like glow that it has, SD or 4k.
I just hope-hope-ruddy-hope that *zero* A.I. is used on these 35mm negatives. If there’s visible grain – GOOD! Leave it the heck alone, it’s natural pure detail the fans want to finally savour and enjoy, and most of all pay money for.
I wish for this release to come out the best it can possibly be – ideally give the Collection range the kick up the bum it needs to stop using A.i. and DNR on footage no matter what quality of resolution it’s in (they’ve used it on the film footage from Spearhead from Space, despite it’s a 2k+ scan).
Anyway, love the cast in this, scripts not the best but, ugh, as long as this comes out properly it’s going to visually, I can imagine it’ll look like one of the very best Doctor Who media items, ever.

It will be interesting to see how the cgi fx is handled. That was done in post production. I always got the impression that they didn’t have that and any new scan would need new fx created. They could always upscale the fx like what wb did for Babylon 5 but I’d rather they didn’t

February 19th, 2026 - 3:19amI would imagine the CGI will be redone, similar to the ‘Special Edition’ edits of Classic Who stories like ‘The Happiness Patrol’. I’ve no idea what their budget is and/or how much of it’s been put towards the actual 4k production side of it, but I would imagine a similar small scale team making new effects at that level would be more than acceptable, and in keeping with the 90’s tech, as opposed to going over-the-top modernizing it.
It would be interesting to see a version of it rebuilt to the spec of the original broadcast master, then potentially the original effects could be slotted back in without upscaling, but that’s just a personal preference and if I were as much of a fan of the tv movie that’s certainly something I’d want to do as a personal fan edit – made possible now (potentially) thanks to this announcement.

February 18th, 2026 - 12:26amI think for the New Series, feature length versions of the multi part Episodes would be great (BBC already made a Movie Length version of the Series 9 2-Part Opener and broadcast it the day after Part 2 aired), plus a made for the Collection version of The Christmas Invasion that edits in the Children in Need 2005 Mini-Sode. Plus would be nice to have a chance to own an extras filled 2011-2013 going from ‘The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe’ to ‘The Time of the Doctor’ without having 2 copies ‘The Name of the Doctor’.
Also, as it wouldn’t be influenced by RTD (hopefully) I would love Behind the Sofas for Nu Who, In Conversation with Matthew Sweet Documentaries (especially with Christopher Eccleston as an oppurtunity to talk about not just the what caused him to stay away from the franchise for a long time but what intrigued him about doing Big Finish) and possibly the Deleted Scenes and outtakes we never got for Series 1,

February 18th, 2026 - 7:18amThere have been a few “omnibus” edits of New Who but they’ve never felt particularly smooth, if they were to re-release the modern series on Blu-Ray yet again, one selling point could be extended/alternate episode edits, I’ve always thought Planet of the Ood in particular would benefit from the cut material.
I’ve also wanted to see a version of The Day of the Doctor that incorporates The Night of the Doctor short as a cold open.

February 18th, 2026 - 4:44pmWhatever studio(s) have previously worked on the New Who boxsets should *not* be involved with any future physical media release. The sheer amount of editing mistakes and poor presentation quality across the last 20 years has been abysmal.
I would be curious to see ‘alternative’ optional editions of episodes, particularly of Series 5-10 as the Moffat era really suffers from making the episodes too child friendly and modern Disney sparkly / silly compared to The Empty Child + Blink. Imagine someone similar to Grahame Harper being an editing Director on those projects wanting to make them grittier grown up horror akin to Androzani, or echo ‘The Web of Fear’ or ‘Inferno’. Peter Capaldi’s Doctor would suit those kinds of re-edited episodes perfectly, since he often looks so out of sync having to metaphorically ride a bike with stabilisers on them, while he’s clearly trying to inject proper horror into his acting.
It was really nice to recently get (what I believe to be) a native picture quality upload (on YouTube) of David Tennant’s first scene as the Doctor, as the video appears to be left well alone from being ruined by Ai, as you can still see the baked-in faded interlaced lines from the filmizing conversion back when the original 2005 editing took place, so getting to see it in that naturalistic form felt really authentic, and I really appreciated that they sourced all the previously missing sound effects that were shown on the Children in Need broadcast and slotted them in exactly where they were.
Whoever worked on that YouTube upload *should* be involved with New Who on physical media.

February 16th, 2026 - 2:34am@Basil, personally I would be interested in the idea of ‘per Doctor’ boxsets, with just the original episodes themselves in them as close as was broadcast, with the Ai + DNR stripped and all/any editing mistakes mended.
Based on how The Collections are ‘restored’, they just aren’t for me, but if a ‘per Doctor’ set was offered with those specific corrections in place, then I’d likely buy them.

February 16th, 2026 - 10:37pmI think the fundamental thing that your all missing about future releases is that blu ray is dead. I dont like it but its sadly a fact. Sony are no longer making blu ray burning machines the last few ran off the production line last month. Now I fully beleive they will finish the collection sets for classic who but I honestly dont see anyone committing to another range of products as large as releasing all of new who…which has been released to death with naff all in the way of new features and most certainly not all of classic who again. There will saldy come a time when the machinery necessary to print these on masse is no longer operable, spare parts are unobtainable and replacements arnt there. Maybe there’ll be a physical media renaissance and there’ll be a new format they get released on but I wouldnt hold any breath

February 17th, 2026 - 2:11am@Barney I would argue that renaissance is gradually being accelerated as we speak due to streaming and A.I backlash that we saw in 2025 but feels far more profound in the last two months of 2026. At the same time, and for the exact same reasons, Piracy is back in the forefront of public conversation in a way that hasn’t been seen since streaming fully became the norm.
Sony may have taken a break with Blu-ray, but given that DVD to this day is still doing extremely well, similarly with music, CDs and even Cassettes are back on the rise – perhaps the mega expensive ‘Boutique’ angle of physical media is on a dip due to the economy and times that we’re in right now – but more than ever I think more and more people want to break out of the status quo system, switch off from the algorithms, the revisionisms and media / grifting dictatorships and all round modern day culture and pop ‘noise’ and find their happy place through the means of personal ownership and personal control, with physical media that best reflects their own self identity in that.
With Doctor Who, they have made the right decision to market the ‘standard’ edition Collection sets, and that product brand in of itself is more towards an ‘archival set’ with hundreds of hours of extras, animations, spinoffs etc. – but I just get the sense there’s a gap in the market to offer more mininal boxsets per Doctor era with just the episodes only, so as to keep buying incentive for the Collection to carry on as usual at the same time.
(Hope at least some of the made coherent sense I do tend to waffle on!)

February 17th, 2026 - 8:21amBlu rays are far from dead. It’s declining but it’s still far from dead. Streaming is getting more and more blowback as more see the negative side of not actually owning anything and the constant price rises as well as things disappearing due to streaming rights running out and where do they head? To blu ray and 4k of course.
Cloud storage for back ups on the rise are probably made more of an impact in choosing to stop manufacturing blu ray recorders
Blu ray is steadily declining in main stream blockbuster releases I don’t think that’s a denial. However I’d argue the boutique labels are smashing it like arrow, criterion, old gold media, hammer, imprint 2nd sight, bfi and others. Last year was a fantastic year for releases and this year looks just as promising. It’s not going to last forever (there is only a finite number of things that is viable and releasable)
Same thing can be said of doctor who. Say what you want of some of the recent offputting restoration in the current releases but these sets have been definitive and as attractive to collectors as possible. Pretty much anything you want to know about that story is on the discs. That’s why every release tops or almost tops the charts on the week of release. Doctor who has and still does sells better and on physical than streaming/digital download. But there is a finite amount of times they can release them. Think the collection range is the end (or almost end depending on when the animation range is finished/stopped) of the line for the classic era on disc baring any sort of discovery that may happen after. There might be complete doctors sets but those will most likely be just repackaging or slimmed down to include just the episodes.
I do think when it comes to 2005 era the success on this will all depend on how much of the original cast they can get for it. If they have the same creative on the docs and have similar sort of variety with some lighter docs and some biographies (Bernard cribbins) I can see it being a success

That would be the final end of classic in physical form.
Although I have the limited editions, if they were targeted at a budget friendly price then I might be tempted again.
Whatever happens I really want Lee Binding to release a coffee table book of his classic who collection designs once they are finished. Be great to read about each seasons designs and have full page artwork throughout.

February 17th, 2026 - 8:37pmI don’t think blu ray is dead and I don’t believe it will be. Physical products will always have a space as will the equipment to play them on. Worst case scenario is company’s like arrow or criterion for instance will be involved in having players available and richer sounds are companies that are still doing very well. Physical products are essentially for collectors now but there’s a lot of collectors out there. Some of the blu releases being released these days are possibly some of the best we’ll ever own. Classic who I very very much doubt will look better in 4k so I can’t really see that, the only exception being Spearhead.

I have a few questions.
Do we think that they will change the release schedule after seasons 16 and 11 to one boxset per year for the b&w seasons or will they keep it to two a year? How do we think this will line-up with the animations release?
Would people like to see series 1-13 of the modern era in the collection style after the classic era is complete and after a Wilderness Years set at the end of the classic range?
I personally love the design of the collection boxsets and would love to see the modern series given the classic collection range treatment.
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the collection range, here’s how I’d personally like to see it finish:
2026 – Season 21 and Season 16
2027 – Season 11 and Season 6 (Space Pirates rumoured for an animation release in 2026 so will possibly be complete.)
2028 – Season 1 and Season 5 (Season 1 likely missing Marco Polo, Season 5 potentially missing Wheel in Space.)
2029 – Season 4 (Depending on animations Season 4 could be missing Smugglers and/or Highlanders.)
2030 – Season 3 and Wilderness Years (Season 3 likely missing AT LEAST one story depending on animation release schedule.)
That would be Seasons 1-26 and Wilderness Years all released within the next 4 years if they stick to a, mostly, 2 sets a year release schedule.
I hope that once the remaining missing episodes/stories are animated, that didn’t make the initial release in the collection range, that they will re-release Seasons 1-6 in their entirety including the new animations.
If they were to re-release Seasons 1-6 once they’re complete would they release them alongside the modern series or wait until that range has ended?
Then I’d personally like to see the modern series released in 2031 starting with Series 1.
Potential release order:
2031 – Series 1 and Series 2
2032 – Series 6 and Series 8
2033 – Series 11 and Series 3
2034 – Series 9 and Series 12
2035 – Series 7 and Series 13 (Series 7 including 50th anniversary specials and Series 13 including the Whittaker specials.)
2036 – Series 10 and Series 5
2037 – Series 4 (Series 4 including the Tennant specials.)
Then depending on where Doctor Who is at that point in time they could potentially add in/do the 60th anniversary specials and Ncuti Gatwa era onwards if they wanted to. I think releasing Series 1-13 of the modern era in the collection style would be a really cosmic idea though.

February 13th, 2026 - 11:01amThere is a few variables at play with the 60s. Restoration wise Seasons 1 and 6 are the 2 big challenges left. Those by far have the most existing episodes to restore. If any of the remaining 60s releases that would perhaps lead to only 1 release that year it would be those. Visually 33 and 37 eps needing restored and audibly 42 and 44 eps. Those audio numbers could drop if Marco Polo and space pirates get animated (35 and 38). Plus the work that went into restoring both daleks and war games in colour could also help things.
3 4 and 5 are actually in quite manageable states visually due to how few surviving eps there are and in the case of g4, toymaker evil, abominable, web already got restorations for the blu ray. Also enemy got future proofed in hd for blu ray I believe.
Visually I think it’s 15 eps (3 masterplan plus ark gunfighters and war machines) for season 3 and could drop to 12 if masterplan is tackled and episodes restored prior to season 3. Audibly it’s currently at 33 due to the g4,toymaker and savages animations having new audio restorations and I expect it to drop further with more animations.
Season 4 is 9. 3 for tenth planet, 2 for underwater menace, 2 for moonbase and 2 for faceless ones. The only tricky ones should be the 2 faceless ones which didn’t get any restoration work for the animated release but the rest were done really late on in the dvd range so shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Audibly it’s at 16 due to the animations.
Season 5 is at 10. Just 4 eps of tomb, 4 eps of ice warriors and 2 of wheel. Audible it’s 16. Everything else was tackled in the last ten years.
The animation schedule is another variable. I’ve heard in the last few days that the aim will be to try and get 2 a year but whether it’s doable or to any sort of consistently is another question. If you exclude crusade there is only 9 animations left. 8 if you lump mission in with masterplan. 9 if you want to split masterplan in 2. It’s going to be a tall order to get through it all. Plus there is also no guarantee at them all getting done at this point.
I could be wrong but I’m pretty confident on myth makers, smugglers, wheel and space pirates getting done prior to the relevant season sets. Massacre highlanders and Marco Polo I’m 50/50 depending on how quickly they can go through the first 4. Masterplan is definitely the most challenging of the lot so I’m not expecting that till 2nd last or very last if they do find a viable away to do crusade.
It may benefit them to do 1 collection set a year to get more animations out but that all depends on what the plans are
I can see wilderness years propping up near 1 or 6 to space out the work.
I wouldn’t be against the idea of the classic range going 1 60s set a year and the other release that year being a 2005 era release to pad out the wait between releases. There really shouldn’t be a problem with series 1/2/4 being released as they put out series 1 and that had convicted sex offender Bruno Langley on it. I would do it in order as these people like tenant piper smith gilllan are well in demand and makes sense to block book to film everything. When it comes to the hd era I’m sure they could do 3/4 releases a year as that’s not going to need restoration work

I don’t think it’s fair to say the reaction to toymaker was bad as there was plenty of people that did actually enjoy that one and wanted more with improvements. I would say it’s more divisive than bad.
I’m sure if an animation or parts of animations can benefit from having 3d added to it they may do it. Like the daleks in evil. That’s 3d but the human characters and other elements are 2d

February 14th, 2026 - 2:21amThis kind of thing is why I love this forum! I think it is such a tantalising ide to think all missing stories could be animated, and all classic and new season be on the collection set shelf!
Although the one thing I do wonder is if they would do a SJA set perhaps in two halves – depending on how many discs we end up getting for the monstrously large 60s seasons.
If we would see Torchwood, the first two as standalone series, then perhaps children of earth and miracle day together as a big one?
Class could well fit onto a Season 36/Series 10 set depending how they number it (sorry Prowl), and TWBTLATS on Ncuti 2?
I am hoping that Gordon’s list – which I now take as premonition – will be the way they do it! Although, if they got their hands on new who, which I hope, they would likely still block film as they are known to have in the past and perhaps still then release them in a varied order as Basil said as I find it is nicer not always knowing and being surprised

February 14th, 2026 - 2:29amOh also on the topic of if Crusade ever gets animated, I don’t know how people would feel, but I’d much rather not have a complete new limited edition set for that, instead perhaps a replacement blu-ray as surely that would do (but all depends if they do colour animations on the sets too as classic who is the main feature on those, not the completely missing animation in colour) and coming with a four page ‘booklet’ – as in the same dimensions perhaps slightly smaller to cover the crusade animation addendum which could slot into where the original booklet is or just in the tardis flap and then replace the disc… we know we would buy it if that was the option, and perhaps for standards, just do that as a new one?
For colour animations, i kind of feel like if any episodes turn up, and of course animations happen after a set, they could have a collection set right at the end or somewhere near that gives all the colour versions and any other material of any kind like the Lost in Time set and call it either Doctor Who: The Collection – Lost in Time, or my favourite

But I think the damage was done and I know a few fans who’ve stopped buying due to the drop in animation quality. I suppose you have the option of the excellent recon on Toymaker or the 3D animation. The animation is a reimagined version again and upset many fans. So again people impressed. I really think the team need to decided to stick to one design of characters, animation style and staying true to the original designs and why it was presented.

To be fair the newest series 1-4 blu-ray set had bland artwork for the discs and a few issues with the content on the discs as well. It’d be fantastic to have the modern series in the same boxset design as the current Classic Who range.
I for one would love to see a layout similar to this:
Series 1. 3 episodes per disc. The “next time” trailer at the end of the episodes cut from the credits so no spoilers. Maybe omnibus editions of 2-parters. 5/possibly 6 discs depending on bonus extras.
Series 2. Same set-up as Series 1. 5/possibly 6 discs.
Series 3. 5/possibly 6 discs. Maybe omnibus editions of 2- and 3-parters.
Series 4. Includes the 2009-2010 specials. It really irks me that these are always sold separately, it’d be brilliant to have them all on one boxset. 7/possibly 8 discs depending on bonus extras.
Series 5. 5/possibly 6 discs.
Series 6. 5/possibly 6 discs.
Series 7 plus 50th anniversary specials. 6/possibly 7 discs.
Series 8. 5/possibly 6 discs.

I’m sticking to the old adage of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” and definitely saying Lee Binding should stay for the artwork. He has done a phenomenal job with this collection and the art for the sets has come along in leaps and bounds.

February 9th, 2026 - 8:05amSpoke to a friend that went to gallifrey one. There was a panel on the collection sets that he attended that was hosted by Pete Mctighe. There was footage of the warriors of the deep special edition (it looks like an improvement) and one of the bonus features (he didn’t say which one but it sounded like it was either the resurrection making of or boating feature as it featured both Peter and Janet )
Most of the panel featured season 21 talk. However he did confirm there will be more 60s sets. They are just holding it off to make them complete as possible at the time of release.
He also mentioned season 2 being released early on as animation for crusade was passed on (he said it wasn’t his decision) and the season was as complete as it was going to be at that time. He also did mention that Minds, positions and technology can change things on that situation.

But the 60s sets are gonna be alot more due to the amount of work/animations done to get them as full as possible. S3 gonna be the most as it’s the biggest. Maybe it is that I am over familiar with the stories of 13 . Maybe I think the season 13 boxset was just a little lacking in extras or am I being unfair? Season 20 extras were far more fun than the stories! I think Season 21 will be the same. The Peter, Janet and the lovely Sarah road trips was the highlight of 20 and I suspect their canal trip, will be highlight of 21. Don’t get me wrong there are some great stories in 21 far better 20 . But the extras make these season boxsets and think Season 21 could be a cracker.Just over five weeks to go and I can’t wait!

January 30th, 2026 - 8:54amRegarding video tape footage from Classic Who, such as the 1 inch tape mostly used in the Colin Baker – Sylvester McCoy era;
Could these tapes be digitized using VHS Decode / Domesday Duplicator method, wherby the raw radio frequencies of the tapes themselves are fed into a computer software, as opposed to a limited form of component / composite wire from a tape player to a capture card?
I’ve no idea what the Restoration Team uses for video tape + telecine footage but if you go to YouTube to see what VHS Decode / Domesday Duplicator can do the comparison results speak for themselves. I really wish I could learn to use it myself but it feels far too complicated to me, and the raw file sizes are enormous for a home computer / external hard drive.
So many clipped highlights can be brought back from it let alone giving the best image stabilization possible, and similar to native fine film grain, there’s also a real beauty with native analogue noise too, especially having seen actual interlaced master tape footage from 1980’s EastEnders currently sitting in the BBC Archive.

I vaguely remember the ‘Trial of a Time Lord’ set costing an absolute bomb as well as ‘New Beginnings’ believing I genuinely wouldn’t ever be able to afford them
While I was at school I finally managed to save up enough money for ‘The Five Doctors Special Edition’ by (around) the late 00’s – that one alone felt like a really massive purchasing decision in the shop back then!

January 25th, 2026 - 9:49pmTrial was retailed at between £30-40 on release in 2008 the single releases had an rrp at £19.99 although generally they were sold at around £14.99 for most of the range up to the newest releases. The price of DVDs has maintained a steady cost. I paid £9.99 for new movies in 2000 and the price is exactly the same in 2026.

January 26th, 2026 - 12:20amCan’t remember the rrp’s exactly (think it was about £20.97ish for single and £24.71 for twin)but single releases were mostly about £12.99 brand new from Amazon from Looking at my Amazon account from 2007ish. Though I think the war games was a bit more expensive. There was a couple of lower budget releases at £9.99. 2 story releases were about £17.99. 3 story sets were round about £30 though I seem to remember myths and legends being around the £35 mark. The key to time was by far the expensive. Think it was around the £60- £70 mark

It’s really interesting that today’s retail price for the Season 23 (Trial) Collection Blu-ray standard edition appears to be in sync with the original VHS retail price from the early 90’s

January 28th, 2026 - 9:12pmWow that Woolworths ad takes right back. I got the dalek tin that year and was obsessed with Remembrance. Got it for my 9th or 10th birthday 93 or 94. I’d wound myself up that much with excitement that when I started The Chase I’d over done it. Always reminds me of that birthday.
The trial tin I got years later in 2004 on eBay. I’ve still got both.

The order for collection sets in 2027 could all depend on when space pirates comes out but 11 and 6. Some saying 6 will come first but I think the other way round seems a more likely but not impossible especially if they want another Troughton in early 2028.

I was thinking of posting about how disappointing that we have had no announcement on missing episodes and particularly future animations. If we get Space Pirates this year, we can hopefully get season 6 , the first season, I can remember after 16 and 11.

Definitely a story that will be improved by visuals. I always enjoy reading pirates ore than listening to it but an animation will be very welcome.

It would be good to have Troughton’s first Season set as the most complete episode one too.

January 25th, 2026 - 6:11pmPeople have a meltdown when the trailer isn’t out in the week they want, delaying the releases to one a year is never going to be considered acceptable as much as it would give us a better quality product by letting the animations carry some of the work in the mean time.

We know they were looking at a new system where as work started to wrap up on one animation the team would start transitioning onto the next project to reduce downtime. Assuming everything kicked off reasonably quickly they must be a good 8-9 months into whatever the next animation is.
I wonder if that’s what’s happening here, the 2026 animation is now into full production and so they’ve now started the preliminary work for the 2027 release. Might be a bit tight for a Season 6 set at the end of the year but could explain the sudden change in rumours.

They need to get money from the animation release and if people think it will be added to a season in just a few months people won’t buy it. So unless we get The Wilderness Year’s in the autumn of 2027 , you would think that they are going to have to start releasing sixties seasons by then. With amount of animation still needed to be done to complete sixties seasons, maybe they will shorten the time from stand alone to season box sets. There is still the missing episodes hopefully to come that maybe will make a difference to these seasons too.

January 28th, 2026 - 9:19amThe gaps may get shortened I suspect as they may not have the luxury of a year -18 months grace period in the next couple of years especially when there may not have other ready releases. If say Marco is out early 2028 for example I can see them maybe going 6-12 months before the s1 release as they may hit a wall where no other season is ready. If they can get wheel and space pirates out 2026/2027 that would buy them a year but I can see the well of complete seasons truly run out by late 2028.
I have kind of flip flopped on it based on the info on hand and the time we got left but I suspect some seasons will be “complete” with animations unless the rate of animations changes or the collections goes once a year. Some will get completed 5 and 6 i suspect. Unless Marco is already in the works already I can see s1 getting released with a recon. S3 is tricky because I don’t feel it’s in a releasable place at present. I do think myth makers will get an animation even if it isn’t imminent (I’ve heard mixed things on whether or not it’s being worked on currently. Some saying it’s currently being done. Some saying the bonus features are being done later so I’m not sure). Massacre might get done after myth. Masterplan is an epic job so I’m not sure there is time. 4 I can see smugglers getting done with highlanders being a recon. Unless the animation timetable changes I can see the animation range outlasting the collections.
If it can only be 1 release a year to the end of the range round about 2030 I’d go for:
2026: space pirates s21/16
2027: wheel in space s11/6
2028: smugglers s5/1
2029: myth makers/mission s4/wilderness
2030: the massacre s3
That would leave Marco Polo, the crusade, masterplan and highlanders unanimated ie the hardest 4
If they can get it to 2:
2026: space pirates/smugglers s21/16
2027: wheel in space/myth makers s6/11
2028: Marco Polo/highlanders s5/s1
2029: massacre/ masterplan part 1 s4/w
2030: the crusade/masterplan part 2 s3
It would be a really tough turnaround though.

January 28th, 2026 - 4:33pmI’ve always been totally fine with the idea of waiting a few extra months and/or years for a 60s season if it means it will be a more complete product. But then again, I’ve always been a fan of the animations. I know some are more well done than others, but I’m just grateful that they exist.
I still sometimes take a moment to appreciate that we have official releases of Power and Evil on DVD & Blu-ray!

Anyway, maybe then we’ll get that Season 6 collection!
