Doctor Who Tegan Jovanka and Destroyed Dalek Vortex Set

Available to order from www.character-online.com

Character Options releases first Doctor Who exclusive of 2026

The first Doctor Who exclusive figure set of 2026 has been confirmed by Character Options as a ‘Vortex Edition’ of the Tegan Jovanka & Destroyed Dalek. The set will go on sale today, Monday 26th January, available solely through www.character-online.com.

About the Set

This limited-edition “Vortex” set comes with two figures, and two accessories. Both figures feature the now customary higher specification decoration for which this Vortex range is becoming renowned for. The Tegan Figure is intricate in its styling and stands 13.7cm tall, with multiple articulation points consisting of ankles, knees, hips, waist, shoulders, elbows and neck. She comes in the outfit seen in 1984’s iconic story ‘Resurrection Of The Daleks’.

Her accessories consist of a Dalek Trooper gun, as used by Commander Lytton’s Dalek squad, as well as a Movellan virus canister. Also included is a destroyed ‘Resurrection’ style Dalek, with a blasted and scorched casing, Internal life support tank, splattered with bright green Dalek ‘Gloop’ and showing mutant Dalek creature within.

About the episode – Resurrection of the Daleks (1984)

Tegan Jovanka, an Australian air steward from Brisbane, accidentally entered the TARDIS thinking it was a real police box. And so began an amazing journey through time and space, where she encountered many species from distant planets, and faced darker corners of her own psyche.

Introduced during the Fourth Doctor’s era alongside Adric, Tegan soon found herself travelling with the newly regenerated Fifth Doctor, who repeatedly tried to get her home. Tegan repeatedly proved herself a hero, confronting evil, and helping others whenever she could. Her strength and honesty defined her time as a companion, qualities that would later see her return to aid future Doctors when the universe once again needed her.

Al Dewar, Creative Director, Character Options, said: “The one that got away… almost! This set started life many moons ago in a wholly different form and it has been across my desk at least four times in as many years. Once it was possible, it continued to be revised many times over, before finally becoming a completely new figure from top to toe. The team knocked it out the park on this one and we’re very proud to bring the one and only Tegan Jovanka to the figure range.”

This new set is on sale now through www.character-online.co.uk and costs £44.99. Each online exclusive release has unique features not to be seen on retail versions and with a limited amount available, this set is certainly one not to be missed!

When do we think we will get an update on future “Vortex Edition” or any future B&M sets?

I expect we’ll hear about the next Vortex release in the next couple of months (how much they announce beyond that remains to be seen).

B&M is even less predictable, we could have a full breakdown come out tomorrow or hear prices but no contents in July and I wouldn’t be surprised by either. All we really know is they are coming at some point.

What happened to them revealing them all at the start of the year

    • Rob

      February 18th, 2026 - 1:29pm

B&M sets early autumn, or later. Al has passed this over to someone else. Only 4 sets, which I presume will be one wave of a history and figure set and another wave later of the same. Compared to a few years ago when we had 6 sets in 2023, 2024 we only had 4.

Which is real shame, but then Al has stated in the past this range at B&M is winding down. So, I guess will have less over the years or it will stop in time.

I suspect the names of the proposed sets will get around social media very soon

I would much rather 3-4 exclusive sets per year from character/vortex with new retooling.

@Nath It was Al Dewar’s wish to avoid leaks spoiling things and may very well still happen, but he’s not in charge of marketing and it has never been a guarantee, just an option being explored. Some people take a “maybe” and run with it as a “definitely happening”.

@Rob The B&M range isn’t winding down. B&M are still getting what they want out of it (a mass of Doctor Who fans marching round all their stores boosting their footfall at one of the quietest times of the year for them). The problem is costs are up and that means they have to be restrictive to make the budget work so they had to abandon plans to do their usual tweaking old figures to make something new and just opt for simple repaints this year.

Just got this in hand and honestly the likeness is great! I think there’s an issue with the vortex edition heads where they don’t photograph very well, something about the flat studio lighting makes them look off. In hand i’ve been very happy with the likeness of every figure!

      Constructively criticise or pointlessly whinge?

    • Peter

      February 13th, 2026 - 6:50am

Indeed Kev, saying things like “I can’t afford this – this is ridiculous and so unfair! Why can’t the price just be £4.99 like it would have been in 2008?! And another thing, no Dalek appears destroyed like that in ‘Resurrection – unacceptable and taking us for mugs! Plus the likeness looks pathetic!” Etc. That’s highly subjective, non- constructive moaning. The comments here are the closest I get to Who fandom these days (gave up on GB during the 60th anniversary), as it’s predominantly a toxic nightmare of whinging fanatics with zero filter.

It’s “alright”, but you cant help but feeling that corners have been cut,

The figure is too tall – no excuse for that. The likeness is passable – nothing more. Since when was Tegan known for smiling?

The Dalek isn’t a “Resurrection” Dalek at all – just a repurposed Dalek from “Remembrance” Even the oval is just painted on. Bit shoddy.

For the price, you’d expect a bit more to be honest.

If you want a retooled Dalek add a tenner at least to the price. Personally I’m happy we’ve got something different if not perfect.
In 2026 its a miracle we are getting character figures from the 80s!

I’m sure they’ve made this figure to be a generic female character base, so probably picked an average height.

I read these comments and still find it amazing that people are complaining. Back when they brought out the original sets for Genesis, Destiny, Resurrection and Revelation they were all moaning at not another Davros with a new paint job which they will do again if they bring him back with the Dr to complete those HOTD sets Yes I did buy them at the time paying I think it was £34.99 or £39.99 plus postage which someone has already mentioned in these posts. There’s been some colour variation between the original sets and the new HOTD sets the most noticeable the Drone Dalek in the Resurrection set is a green/grey colour where as the HOTD set #18 and this one is grey .Come on Character tell us the launch date for this years Vortex editions

And yours are completely unrealistic. You can’t expect prices to remain the same over twenty years, especially with limited market potential.

    • Nath

      February 1st, 2026 - 9:32am

Honestly I couldn’t care it’s just nice to have a new dalek if you missed the original one or not you lot always complain about the price of these sets but the fact they double in value when they sell out should tell you it’s a good price you just have no concept of manufacturing costs if you don’t want to buy it don’t… I didn’t buy the warrior set because I didn’t want it and they were two of the same figures so this set is much better straight off the bat. Something you don’t seem to still understand is without these sets selling no more figures would come out the b&m waves are the reason we get these online exclusives I know you miss the range what it used to be but that was like 20 years ago it will never get back to that size of releases

Steve, Low Standards? That’s what the majority of the B&M repaints are, especially if you’ve got the original versions.

This figure set is fantastic. And tbf there are issues with every dalek release if you want to nitpick.

And the price, well it is actually reasonable for 2 unique figures as it is 2026 not 2008 when the show was at its peak. Fair enough if it isnt in your budget though.

      February 1st, 2026 - 12:10pm

Your comments are noted and everybody has a right to have an opinion. If you think that the price of £44 is too high take a look at the current price of this product on EBAY i.e. £68 and upwards.

    • Slitheen71

      February 1st, 2026 - 1:21pm

As a life long fan of the show and a collector of the figures from the start of the range, I find your opening comment hard to understand.
To a non fan it’s an action figure of a woman dressed to go to an eighties disco and a broken Dalek toy for £44.99, which might be seen as a low bar.
To a fan it’s a limited all new action figure of a fan favourite Dr Who companion collectors have wanted for a long time with a re-use figure repainted to create a new character that has never been released before.
I am a fan of the B&M line but have found myself leaving sets on the shelf. B&M has a price point placed on the figures and because of that we are getting more and more old figures that I already have and a new paint job isn’t enough to make me buy. I am happy New collectors get to own these but still disappointed when I can’t add to my collection so these on line exclusives are fantastic. The price is very competitive for what is a niche action figure range. Hasbro recently put out a £50 6 inch Spider-Man figure for a much larger fan base. Next I would like the low bar of a guy In a kilt.

    • Andy R

      February 2nd, 2026 - 1:28pm

Quick question – if the damaged dalek was not a retool and more screen accurate, are you saying you would actually pay more then the £44? Or are they two separate points – it needs to be exactly as seen on screen and be £20?

    • Rob

      February 2nd, 2026 - 5:07pm

They designed two versions of Liz because they were planning a “Season 7” set with a new Pertwee and possibly a Primord but they hadn’t decided which of her costumes to go with (hence the two versions). It certainly never made it to tooling and given everything that happened with the Tegan figure it would likely have to go through a redesign again to bring it up to modern standards if they did revisit it in future.

Pb, they dont know stock levels. Its a futile assumption that happens everytime co have an item on the website. People go on the website and put in high purchase numbers, so when they hit buy the system says “theres only 350 left”. They then make assumptions for clicks and gossip

There’s no proof as not all stock is allocated ti the website immediately and the stock level update all the time

You can only buy a maximum of 3 these days per order. The counter doesn’t go past 3 so you can’t put a high number in like you could in the past to then see the stock level.
