January 20th, 2026 - 11:28amProbably Andy R, I don’t recall the article but I think the artwork is weak, I preferred the style on the earlier versions of the rebooted range from Target which were more in the style of Chris Achilieos, these just don’t look very good to me. I don’t know what they’re trying to emulate but I do find this style pretty tacky and AI like

January 20th, 2026 - 11:52amI would agree, some of the artwork is a little off in places (still not sure that’s Rose on the cover of the Satan Pit) but i do prefer the full colour covers. All done to personal choice of course.. much like the original Targets.

From what I’ve seen these and the original narration of Terrance Dicks version of The Stones of Blood (June 2026) are being issued as “Downloads”
If true, this is disappointing, given that all previous and some future Target audiobooks are still being issued on CD.

January 19th, 2026 - 11:20amI am very curious to see if this novelisation will tackle the dating controversy that this episode kicked off, The War Games in colour cheekily referenced the Unit dating controversy, so I kinda hope this novelisation tackles it’s own

January 19th, 2026 - 11:25am“Everything is a year later” isn’t much of a controversy. The UNIT one only causes a problem because they haphazardly stuck some actual dates on in the 80s that didn’t match the “near future” presented at the time. Davies being a year ahead was consistently followed right through his four series, only syncing back up again with The End of Time so it wouldn’t cause Moffat any headaches.

January 19th, 2026 - 11:57amthe Aliens dating controversy does get a bit head-scratching when it comes to stuff like Torchwood, especially with it’s second series set in 2008 but Martha’s appearance is set after series 3, and then the whole thing with Rose in Star Beast

January 19th, 2026 - 2:36pmFrom what I remember it was The Waters of Mars citing The Dalek Invasion of 2008 on a news article that caused the inconsistency with the dating of RTD1. Like the UNIT dating Conundrum of the 70’s/80’s it only becomes a problem if you really think about it

January 20th, 2026 - 3:10am@scotel being a year ahead was definitely not consistently followed through his series – it was forgotten pretty much straight away. Martha refers to being from 2007 in Human Nature and Donna from 2008 in Fires of Pompeii (the years those episodes were broadcast). It gets more out of whack when you include Torchwood and SJA – Torchwood was supposed to be set quite some time after Doomsday because of Cyberwoman, and Invasion of the Bane needs to be at least 18 months after School Reunion as that’s how long K9’s been floating around a black hole, but that doesn’t match up with where the main series was – and yet everything is in synch for Turn Left.
RTD’s just never really cared for details.

January 19th, 2026 - 11:11amNot my favourite story, but it’s nice to see some more Nu-Who novelisations and not just focus on Gatwa.
I also like that they’ve picked three two-parters for this set, so we’re getting six episodes in total.
Now if only they could make them a bit more regular. There’s quite a backlog of stories to novelise, and it would be nice to see them all in print at some point. Even Fear Her.
