Premiering in September 2015, the ninth series of Doctor Who featured Peter Capaldi in the title role in his sophomore season as television’s favourite time traveller. This all encompassing four part collection features general cues on discs one and two, the complete score from the episode Heaven Sent on disc three and on disc four the Christmas Special, The Husbands Of River Song.
Five time BAFTA nominee Murray Gold recently confirmed that he is stepping down from composer duties on the show after 12 years of providing some of the finest music to be heard on contemporary television. This is also the 12th Silva Screen release of his music from the 2005 revival onwards and underlines the breadth of Gold’s composing skill across over two and a half hours of music.

It’s one of the last great morality tales out there but it also celebrates life. For that reason I think it’s a great show for kids. I couldn’t write this much music for it if I didn’t feel that way.” – Murray Gold
TIMELORDTC
March 28th, 2018 - 5:44pmNo theme included, or even the rock theme
Big Bang Two
March 28th, 2018 - 7:36pmThe theme was already released on the Series 8 album.
The rock intro is just the Capaldi theme with some guitar chords layered on top. It’s a bit messy for an official release tbh.

March 29th, 2018 - 12:04amWe still haven’t even got the series 7 part 2 theme. How about a CD of all the theme arrangements when the new version debuts later in the year? Preferably full length versions of each. That would make me very happy.
Adam
March 29th, 2018 - 7:35amTo Anonymous: I want them to do a special release of all the most popular unreleased music that fans have been clamoring for. I really want the music for the Sycorax swordfight, the Series 7 part 2, The Snowmen and Day of the Doctor themes, a TV-accurate version of “I might change my mind” (the disc version doesn’t have that quiet guitar bit, which was my favourite bit) and that music from “The Name of the Doctor” where the GI is trying to get the Doctor to say his name while the Whispermen kill his friends.
Anonymous
March 29th, 2018 - 10:42amThere could be a chance it’s on the track called bootstrap paradox as that leads into the theme in the show.
Anonymous
March 29th, 2018 - 5:08pmIt could be included in a bootstrap paradox track.
Adam
March 28th, 2018 - 5:26pmAm I the only one wondering why “Heaven Sent” has it’s own disc? I mean, I get that it’s a fan-favourite but other than the Doctor punching through the wall and the Gallifrey cliffhanger, I don’t really find any of the music in that episode overly memorable compared to others.
Also, am I the only one bugged how Disc 2 doesn’t have the same number of tracks as Disc 1? I know there’s less episodes to pick from, what with “Sleep No More” not having any music and “Heaven Sent” having it’s own disc, but it’s really doing a number on my OCD. They really could’ve just slapped “Heaven Sent” on there and made it 28 tracks. The Series 8 soundtrack had 30 tracks on its second disc. Or, if they insist on giving “Heaven Sent” its own disc, couldn’t they have just included more music from the Zygon two-parter and “Hell Bent”? I don’t want to sound like a hater (Series 9 was almost perfect and I’m buzzing about getting this soundtrack) but I really don’t understand their decision-making here.
Also – Christ, why do I care about this so much?
alex
March 28th, 2018 - 5:28pmI completely understand your point in terms of disc 2. it also seems that we will be missing out on alot of the opening 2 parter what with the variations of a good man.
Big Bang Two
March 28th, 2018 - 7:47pmWhilst The Shepard’s Boy steals the bulk of the attention, the entire score to Heaven Sent is pretty exceptional and distinct from any other episode in the show’s history.
If ever there was an episode that deserved its own disc its Heaven Sent.
Adam
March 28th, 2018 - 9:09pmTo alex: Yay! I’m not the only one!
To Big Bang Two: I can’t say I’d really noticed, but each to their own 🙂
Anonymous
March 28th, 2018 - 2:53pmHow come Disc 2 only has 14 tracks?
Pip’s Plinth
March 28th, 2018 - 3:32pmThey all have 14 tracks apart from Disc 1.
Anonymous
March 28th, 2018 - 3:38pmYeah but Disc 3 and 4 are only based on 1 episode. Disc 2 is based on 5 episodes.

March 28th, 2018 - 11:26pmMaybe some tracks are different lengths obvs

March 28th, 2018 - 2:06pmWhy are the postage costs so high?

March 28th, 2018 - 4:18pmI thought that, maybe coming by private drone !
booboo
March 28th, 2018 - 6:44pmselling direct maximises profits so seems excessive, I will be waiting for Amazon myself on this one
The Outcast
March 28th, 2018 - 12:38pmSo, it is out. I see it has the new logo on it now. Could that be the reason for the hold up because they had to change the cover? If so, could that be why the Bill figure has not been announced or released yet, because they need to change the box on all the figures?
booboo
March 28th, 2018 - 12:45pmthat’s all possible, the new logo is spreading far and wide, i have even seen it on some big finish 10th doctor downloads as well
it might start appearing on everything
Bicky
March 28th, 2018 - 3:04pmI think the new logo on older series merchandise kind of works. It’s more uniform and pleasing to the eye. The old logo looks a bit clunky now.
Dav McKenzie
March 28th, 2018 - 9:07pmI think it looks pretty terrible. The logo of that era should be used not the new logo because when it changes again everything will be out of date and not match. The only thing I’ve no problem with is using the classic logo.
Adam
March 28th, 2018 - 9:14pmTo Dav McKenzie: it doesn’t particularly bother me here, but I do get what you mean. It really bugs me that Big Finish in particular put the Pertwee/McGann logo on EVERYTHING. I keep looking at my Tenth Doctor Adventures and thinking “that’s not the right one!”
Kieran
March 28th, 2018 - 12:24pmI’m very much surprised there wasn’t a vinyl LP release of this, though there still might be in the future.
Alex
March 28th, 2018 - 3:07pmWouldn’t be surprised if there was one celebrating the entirety of the Capaldi era, after the (assumed) Series 10 soundtrack comes out. I have trouble imagining there’d be a full Series 9 LP, that’d require about 8 vinyls!
Tom
March 28th, 2018 - 11:54amAny chance of it going on amazon?

Harmony Gladstone wishy washy
December 22nd, 2017 - 12:23pmAt last so happy, I wonder who will do new series hope it don’t end up as generic tv music as these soundtracks have been incredible, especially for a TV show.
Doctor Stu
December 22nd, 2017 - 12:53pmI just hope the new writer will keep the same sort of style and continue to weave the existing themes throughout the new music
Dominic Kane
December 22nd, 2017 - 4:08pmIf Murray Gold is leaving. I think they’ll hire Blair Mowatt to replace him, as he wrote the soundtrack for Class, which is just as good as the Doctor Who Soundtracks.
DoctorFan
December 22nd, 2017 - 12:16pmTook four and a half billion years to get here

Jordan Scott
December 21st, 2017 - 8:00pmTwice Upon a Time’s soundtrack is phenomenal 🙂
booboo
December 22nd, 2017 - 8:33amI have heard that, perhaps it will get a separate release
Anonymous
December 21st, 2017 - 8:39pmI think Murray peaked in series 3&4, but series 7’s soundtrack was very impressive too!
TARDISFAN
December 21st, 2017 - 8:46pmSeries 4 was a musical-peak for Mr Gold, it illustrated the ultimate-like feel of the Series, plus the Specials that followed.
Anonymous
December 21st, 2017 - 8:58pmSeries 5 and 6 had the best soundtrack too.
Doctor Stu
December 22nd, 2017 - 12:59amJordan did you go to the early screening? just out of interest. And I agree series 4 was brilliant and there have been nice pieces of music from series’s onwards but 4 was consistently good
Jordan Scott

December 21st, 2017 - 3:18pmI would have included the music for hell bent on disc 3 with heaven Sent.
Tyler Prescott
December 24th, 2017 - 10:45pmThere would probably be a reason they separated them.
