dvd-series-7-bDoctor Who Series 7 Part 2 (DVD)

Doctor Who actor Matt Smith will be joined a stellar list of guest stars including: Celia Imrie; Richard E Grant; Warwick Davies, Jessica Raine; Dougray Scott and Tamzin Outhwaite, as well as for the first time on screen together, mother and daughter ‘combo’ Dame Diana Rigg and Rachael Stirling.

It’ll either be that is actually his name, a joke, or he will whisper it into River’s ear (like she did in ‘Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead’) and then they make the joke.

    • Lachie

      March 15th, 2013 - 5:06am

i think talking about the name so much ruins the show but that’s just my opinion, the best stories don’t need big ideas or series arcs, if you do a series arc make it discrete at least but keep it simple like The Key To Time for example. Such a big question like the Doctor’s name would set it in stone for the whole show.

    • The TARDIS

      March 15th, 2013 - 7:34am

I don’t think the doctor actually has a name. but It isn’t actually necessarily the doctors name. The question is Doctor Who? And everyone has jumped on it being his name. I think the question is just about his personality, who he is not what he is called.

    • McGann is the Doctor

      March 15th, 2013 - 2:02pm

I don’t think it’s really so much about “What’s his name ?” but who he is and what he stood for, what he did all those centuries ago before he ever went to earth….

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 15th, 2013 - 2:49pm

The whole “Not his name but who he is” seems the likely option.

      Well, that’s your opinion.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 13th, 2013 - 9:31pm

I have a split opinion, I liked some parts of it like the concept of a Dalek asylum, Clara, the Daleks seeking the Doctor’s help. Other things like trying to put a seemingly happy couple through a divorce just to get back together, little to no use of the classic Daleks, destroying the Daleks’ memory of the Doctor and (as Josh said) destroy the continuity of the last 50 years. Good concept, bad pull-through.

    • McGann is the Doctor

      March 14th, 2013 - 2:32pm

I was pretty let down by the story, couldn’t believe it was ending after hardly getting any Dalek action. The story would have worked better if it atleast made use of the Daleks, why bring out the classics just to have 90% of the action be bronze ?

Atleast have the special weapon dalek fire a shot at Rory, for crying out loud. It also didn’t work for me as the first story in nine months, it felt like it could have taken place five minutes after the Doctor walked away from Dorium in the Wedding of Riversong (he even has the same outfit) ❗

    • josh smith

      March 14th, 2013 - 6:07pm

yh and they should of had all bronze faleks out of the alum and all classic daleks in the asulym

    • The TARDIS

      March 14th, 2013 - 8:23pm

I loved Asylum of the Daleks, but think they underused the new Daleks and all the stiff about every Dalek ever was just something to grab attention.

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 14th, 2013 - 9:18pm

I really wish people wouldn’t judge it on the lack of Classic Daleks and as a story on it’s own merits. I feel while it doesn’t fulfill all it’s promises, on it’s own merits it’s a fantastic story with great character developement, surprising plot twists, and incredible Dalek action (Even if none of it is Paradigm or Classic Dalek action)

    • josh smith

      March 15th, 2013 - 6:27am

but steven moffat promised to have even dalek in exsistance but he never did if he just said daleks are back and thats it then it would be good but he promised lassic daleks and we got nonthing all i saw was the special wepon daleks and a classic 60s dalek!

    • Scott the Raptor

      March 15th, 2013 - 6:32am

Actually there were quite a few 70s and 80s Daleks where Rory……errmm………landed.

      March 15th, 2013 - 7:33am

but they were in dark background and you dont see it unless you relly look for the first time watching i nearly turned over to watch the news

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 15th, 2013 - 2:53pm

That’s just the problem. I don’t think people should judge an episode on what it promises, but what it actually delivers. I was disappointed at first not seeing much Paradigm or Classic Dalek action myself, but I was also enjoying everything else. After a few rewatches, I realized that on it’s own merits I enjoy it more than any other Doctor Who story there ever was. And that’s saying something, considering it produced such brilliance as Remembrance of the Daleks, Earthshock, Pyramids of Mars, The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang, and many others

There was a lack of classic Daleks in the episode, I would have liked to see them move more and probably talk. But when watching the episode a few more times I do have to admit it was quite an interesting episodes. The daleks did not kill anyone this time around, but I guess the daleks do have their off days. But I do like the new metallic colour schemes on the drones,Strategist and the supreme.I am looking foward to see what they do next.

Uh, Skaro was brought back in the TV Movie. And before you say it was before Remembrance of the Daleks, then they would’ve contacted an earlier incarnation of the Doctor, not Sylvester McCoy’s at the end of his life. And I haven’t seen Inferno yet.

    • Mattty B

      March 13th, 2013 - 2:30pm

They’ve gotta have the Daleks back to explain Oswin Oswald’s fate in Asylum of the Daleks, and of course, you cannot do the anniversary “series” without the Doctor’s greatest enemies. Along with the Doctor and the TARDIS, Daleks are the show.

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 14th, 2013 - 9:19pm

Besides, I think they concluded the Master’s story in The End of Time

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 15th, 2013 - 11:55am

I’ve actually written some scripts and ideas featuring different ways more villians come back, including the Master. They may not be Robert Holmes quality, but I think it’s a good thought and Try at it. They’re written in prose, but just convert them into camera scripts and it should be fine.

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 15th, 2013 - 2:54pm

Maybe you could post them as action figure adventures or fanfilms on Youtube. I’m interested to see what they are.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 15th, 2013 - 8:30pm

I have a really limited collection (3 boxsets, 5 individual DVDs, and the 11th scredriver); I have no action figures, but my birthday is in a couple days, so I’m asking for some. They’re not very good, but if you want to know the gist:

The Master Plan (a way for the Master to return)
Regeneration Of The Daleks (an alternative of the first title featuring the Master teaming up with Davros)
      Calcium Farm (Slitheen in E-Space)
Day Of The Snake (Mara return)
      various 50th anniversary ideas

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 17th, 2013 - 4:30am

They don’t sound bad, in fact, I would be interested to see them. Even still, if you were able and wanted to, you could always act them out with your friends in a fanfilm. I’ve seen people do it before.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 17th, 2013 - 4:52pm

I always seem to mess up somewhere in the story, either I have a concept, but no ending. I have a beginning, but no middle. Ideas always come to me, but it would be easier if I had a writing partner (ex: Bob Baker and Dave Martin) for those times where I can’t finish a story, or can’t translate into a TV script (like I said, I can only write in prose).

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 17th, 2013 - 4:58pm

But I did think this morning of a Celestial Toymaker return and I also drew a design schematics for creatures I call the ‘Messengers To The Toymaker’ or something perhaps cooler in the future.

I’m hoping for a massive Dalek Invasion Of Earth, much like the 1964 serial. Otherwise I don’t see the point in bringing out that figure set..

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 13th, 2013 - 2:20pm

The set was made because it went well with the Daleks. Also, I’m not sure they would invade Earth again unless they were after something special, seeing as they already invaded in the future

They will catch onto the fact that the Doctor is someone important and demand to know who he is, eventually finding out ❗

    • Mattty B

      March 13th, 2013 - 2:34pm

When the Daleks were first seen in 1963/4 (whatever year it was), they had no knowledge of the Doctor, Skaro was a ruined city, as it was in Asylum of the Daleks, maybe Steven Moffat has been very clever by creating a paradox for the whole Dalek history, in which the Daleks forget about their greatest enemy when he is in his eleventh incarnation and they they encounter him in his first, and the story just goes on from there, over and over again, stuck in a loop of Daleks forgetting and then remembering the Doctor. What a mind?

    • Anonymous

      March 13th, 2013 - 5:23pm

good thinking matty b. the daleks should know who the doctor is in “the daleks” but don’t somehow. maybe we now know why?

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 14th, 2013 - 9:22pm

Um, Matty, that’s a great idea, but the problem with it is, it would be a plot hole as well.
      1. The Daleks’ casings have evolved too much
      2. The Daleks in The Daleks can only move on metal, while both bronze and Paradigm Daleks have been shown to be able to move on other terrains.
      3. A Dalek from The Daleks appeared in the Asylum.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 14th, 2013 - 9:29pm

I think of it as the history of the Daleks (or at least the details of it) were lost in the long and insufferable war with the Thals, so no files of history are kept to say who the Doctor is. Plus, the Daleks in ‘The Daleks’ (or ‘The Dead Planet’ if you will) were new soldiers made for the Thal war and the Doctor is only a myth to them, a myth not even worth brining up whem he comes. I have theorys on other things like: “How does Mel know the Doctor in ‘The Ultimate Foe’ when he only knows her from his consensous”.

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 14th, 2013 - 9:33pm

Still, the casing design was seen in the Asylum, so that implies the model had already been used, and therefore, be outdated compared to the current Daleks.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 14th, 2013 - 9:36pm

Though if you look at the time period of ‘The Daleks’, it is somewhere near the end of the universe (like ‘Utopia’) and they could’ve ran out of the recent material or supplies, making it a last resort for Dalek casing.

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 15th, 2013 - 12:34am

Good point, but the Daleks are time travellers. Also, it would mean putting an end to the Daleks, which they would NEVER do

    • Dalek The Supreme

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 15th, 2013 - 1:42am

It would be easier to explain if I was there talking to you, but I sorry to you having to read it and make as much sense out of it as you can. Same way with a lot of my other theories about unresolved conflicts, namely why Mel can easily remember and leave with the Sixth Doctor when he has only seen her in his defense before that event. It contains a time loop, Sabalom Glitz, and a severely advanced knowledge of time placement and order.

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 15th, 2013 - 2:57pm

Ah, sorry. Then again, maybe they could make a story where the Daleks from that story are suddenly reactivated by a surge of power, and able to return to their more advanced casings, or, perhaps, build new ones…

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 15th, 2013 - 2:59pm

Of course, they would have to establish a plot twist in which they had to devolve just to conserve power, and I’d like to see the Paradigm Daleks in proper action before they decided to redesign the casings. We only saw them in proper action twice, their first appearance when they destroyed the impure Daleks and The Big Bang when one chased the Doctor, and that last one shouldn’t even count because that one was so low on energy it couldn’t even kill the Doctor.

Continuity at it finest, at least you get it Dalek The Supreme.

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 14th, 2013 - 9:25pm

Thanks! I thought the civil war idea worked very well in Remembrance of the Daleks, and while I enjoyed Asylum of the Daleks, I am slightly disappointed there won’t be a bronze vs Paradigm civil war. Davros would have to be played by Julian Bleech though.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 15th, 2013 - 11:58am

Maybe Davros could create a new Dalek species (they’ve done it the Cybermen) and have them fight for Dalek suppremisie while Davros is in the background climbing his way up until he rules the universe (or at least the tri-state ares).

    • Dalek The Supreme

      March 17th, 2013 - 4:43pm

I just want to see the New Paradigm Daleks in action, and a civil war seems the right way to go. Especially if it involved Davros becoming Emperor again, imagine Davros in a Time War style Emperor Casing! 😀

    • The Greater Intelligence

      March 17th, 2013 - 4:46pm

Or in Paradigm casing, showing him as the Paradigms’ emperor. Who knows, Davros has tricked more people in different ways that it might be possible for him to confuse the Paradigms.

Because there are inly 13 episodes in a series. The Christmas special was part of this series.

    • drjakeyoung

      March 12th, 2013 - 6:17pm

there are 14 episodes this series including the snowmen, and series 7 part 2 had episodes 1-5, which means part 2 needs episodes 6-14 not 6-13.

      March 12th, 2013 - 6:25pm

No doctoramyroryriverbang is rights it should be 6-14 there are always 14 episodes a series

    • Sam Bentley

      March 12th, 2013 - 6:51pm

There are only 13 episodes a series not including christmas specials. The Snowman is part of series 7 as well as the special but there is not 14 episodes.

Actually it is a part of the series, and is episode six as has been confirmed by numerous sources, most notably Steven Moffat.

BBC Worldwide are behind the DVDs and have their own personal system for classifying everything which has nothing to do with the production team’s system or that of any other part of the BBC.

Everyone’s saying different things but The Snowmen was a Christmas Special hence not part of the series (like all other specials). I just follow Radio Times. They seem to be the most logical…

Doesn’t help following the Radio Times, their magazine ignores it but their website counts it.

To be honest I wanted snowmen as single release

    • The TARDIS

      March 12th, 2013 - 7:04pm

I agree, Christmas specials have always had a separate release with the exception of the Christmas invasion. But at least we’ll eventually have it!

    • McGann is the Doctor

      March 13th, 2013 - 12:11pm

Unlike the other christmas specials, the Snowmen is very strongly linked into the series, so it’s not such a bad thing that it isn’t getting a seperate release.

Also, am I reading correctly that the Daleks are in 7b as well as 7a? ‘ With episodes written by Steven Moffat, Neil Gaiman and Mark Gatiss, the Doctor will have to outwit foes, both old and new including Daleks, Cybermen and Ice Warriors.’

Did not know they were coming back! If so, great!

Then again, I have heard all three incarnations if Clara are returning for the finale so I suppose a Dalek or two might turn up then. But its only a rumour so I don’t know… Hmm… Interesting stuff! 🙂
