2. Lee was right, S3 does look better in orange than green.

March 17th, 2018 - 2:44amThey should made a separate disc for the Confidentials.
Mr DVD
March 16th, 2018 - 4:02pmThe biggest issue surely is the quality of the upgrade to Blu-ray. Considering these stories weren’t made in HD. If it’s anything like the series 1 discs, then it’s pointless anyway. The DVD’s are better quality of series 1 – 4.
Anonymous
March 17th, 2018 - 1:08amThe Blu Rays are better quality than the DVD’s. It’s no where near as good as content filmed in HD, but there is definitely an upgrade in quality.

March 29th, 2018 - 5:43pmYou seemingly don’t understand how video works. Please stop talking about it.
Omega63
March 13th, 2018 - 5:04pmPersonally I can’t help but just not like the choices made. The positioning of the Master feels so tacked on. And his head seems really close to the top. The Doctor and Martha feel less prominent than they should be, and the swirly purple effect doesn’t blend well with them as before.
It’s better than before, but I just don’t like the direction of the artwork in general this time out.

March 13th, 2018 - 9:31pmI love how people complain about people giving an opinion on whether they like a bit of artwork, I’m fully entitled to not like it, it’s subjective.
LastOfTheSonics
March 13th, 2018 - 4:10pmThat looks a thousand times better. Thank you to the artists for redesigning it.
Why are people still complaining? You should be grateful that they even listened and redesigned it in the first place. You’re all asking for different things on the cover, they’re not going to change it every time an individual moans. Accept this for what it is.

March 13th, 2018 - 3:58pmSeries 1 – the daleks
Series 2 – the cybermen and the daleks
Series 3 – the master, possibly one of them lenticular art cards showing the transformation from Jacobi to simm, like series 10s
Series 4 – davros, Caan destroyed
Specials – all the baddies
Series 5 – the pandorica and crack
Series 6 – the silence , maybe some headless monks in the background to represent the first half
Series 7, the whisper men and dr Simeon. Would of been a better place for a few angels as well, they are more important this series as they kill the ponds.
Smith specials – zygons as the main big image and then all the baddies from time of the doctor in the bottom smaller than the zygons , eg the daleks, cybermen and sontarans.
Series 8 – missy and the new cybermen
Series 9 – ashielder or me, and the time lords, basically a really good hell bent trilogy poster.
Series 10 – a mondasian cyberman and maybe the patients behind it
The front covers will have the doctors and companions on, apart from the specials which will have just the doctor on, matt smiths will have war and ten on as well

March 13th, 2018 - 2:49pmIt looks fine, can’t complain personally
dziadeck
March 13th, 2018 - 2:41pmWorking artists work to spec. The artist is talented. The direction has issues.
The main change still needed is to make this release region-free — features and extras.
And, please, bring back the iconic S1-4 DW logo. I know BBC is pushing the new logo for the new Who but please respect the iconic logo for the iconic series.
Thank you.
Jackson Lake
March 13th, 2018 - 2:58pmSeries 1-4 is classic Who now in the eyes of the BBC, so this release will feature the Third Doctor-era logo, as per all classic merchandise AND the Series 1-2 steelbooks. They can’t break the trend now.

March 13th, 2018 - 3:51pmWell they can, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they do. But I hope not.
Star Lord
March 13th, 2018 - 2:31pmI’m delighted with the updated cover, much more in keeping with the Doctor & companion on front/TARDIS & villains on back style of the Series 1 and 2 releases.
New design is a lot less busy and much more striking as a result.

March 13th, 2018 - 1:11pmthat’s better but I would still have liked to have seen jack on the front.
platon29
March 13th, 2018 - 11:33amI think it could have done without the angel in the foreground on the back, would look a bit better IMO.
Doctor Stu
March 13th, 2018 - 11:31amSooooo we’ve kept all of the irrelevant Angels and just popped the Master in the background looking like some sort of Angel overlord job done. Tick.
Keep the image of the Angels rocking the TARDIS, keep the master and maybe throw in some gridlock cars or toclafane in the background. Replace the Series 5 Angel with either a scarecrow, Actual Dalek version of Sec not the human version or maybe throw Korean in there or something
The whole cover just feels like it’s saying ‘oh series 3 is old now so throw some angels in there to link it to the new series’
Doctor Stu
March 13th, 2018 - 11:31amKorwin not Korean oh dear

Phillip
March 3rd, 2018 - 1:41pmChances are they will just drop the master and re center the Doctor and companion with a slight expanding of the image… Sadly the piece is far inferior to its predecessors. The artwork looks like it was done by an excellent high school student. It’s equivalent to someone picking up a guitar and playing a song they learned rather badly instead of composing an original masterpiece. Think puddle of mud instead of Nirvana.
Jackson Lake
March 1st, 2018 - 2:53pmExcellent, so can we expect a S3 Master / no Angels / green or orange background / Lee Binding’s work? Im asking for too much aren’t I (also I wouldn’t put Jack on the back as he was merely a guest character in the final story.
DoctorSong2016
March 1st, 2018 - 4:07pmIt’ll probably just be a Master change and perhaps colour change at a push.
Pip
March 1st, 2018 - 4:59pmDefinitely the Master, following comments by the artist on Twitter quite possibly the colour too. I’m hopeful that the large Angel on the back (the Big Chief figure) goes but I’m doubtful. Put it this way, the longer we wait the more has been changed.
JBWHOVIAN
February 27th, 2018 - 8:50pmWe need jack and vote Saxon signs.

February 27th, 2018 - 7:04pmExcellent news! The Who Customer is always right. Will defo be ordering once that Master has been fixed. Thanks for taking note BBC WW! Mwah!
Jordan Scott
February 27th, 2018 - 6:32pmThank god, I doubt they’ll change much and it still won’t be on the level of Lee Binding’s artwork but at least it’ll be acceptable.
Omega63
February 27th, 2018 - 5:26pmI’m genuinely amazed they listened, very good of them and good job everyone, proves we still have a say in the quality of products we buy.
As for how many changes, I have a lot of problems with this design but I do think it will just be a case of swapped Masters, even though I’d love for a complete reshuffle, the Master on the back with the split sky and Toclafane. And Jack on the front. That will never be the case, but at least we’re getting the right Master. I’m excited to see how it looks and relieved I’ll be somewhat happier buying it to fit in with the rest.
WouldYouLikeAJellyBaby?
February 27th, 2018 - 5:35pmI’m surprised they listened too as I thought they would dismiss the criticism and just release it as it is. Other than changing the image of The Master, I don’t know how much of the design will be changed because I can imagine anything that’s changed would make it a massive task that would further delay it’s release. I agree with what you said about The Master and the Toclafane as that would suit the design better and it would be cool if they changed the colour of the design to be green or orange, but I don’t think they will.
Moodbeam
February 27th, 2018 - 5:54pmI’m not too surprised. I think they could see how much it was going to affect the sales. It helps that the artist responsible also got involved, she said on Twitter that she would go back to the BBC and ask them to let her change it.
Omega63
February 27th, 2018 - 8:59pmTo be honest, even with the change I think I’ll be disappointed. Nothing against the artist, she’s clearly very good in other sectors, but also clearly also didn’t research into the Series and her art suffered. Purple colour palette? No Jack? Angels as the main feature of the Series? No blue suited 10th Doctor? And really just a rather boring composition, no nebula effect of the previous two which just suited the Steelbook releases so well.
I also hate how her style has tried to imitate Lee Binding’s superior Series 1 and 2 Steelbook styles, when elsewhere her style is quite clearly very different. Either go with a new artist and a new style, or stick with the same one. Don’t venture down the middle. Plus the Angels just look, odd? One of them is licking the TARDIS.
Alex
February 28th, 2018 - 8:42amThe artist was aware of the issues and tried bringing them up before. She wasn’t responsible for picking what was on the boxart, she simply drew the various elements.
And you could say no Jack but it’s not like Jack was on Series 1 either. Purple palette? Why not? No blue suited 10th Doctor? Again, why does that matter?
DoctorSong2016
February 28th, 2018 - 9:23amWell clearly it does matter otherwise they wouldn’t have brought issue to it.
Omega63
February 28th, 2018 - 10:06amThey may not matter to you but all of these elements are quintessential reflections of the series, and elements that make it iconic. Art is subjective yes, but personally, I wasn’t a fan of this piece, no matter how much input the artist had on the choices.
Alex
February 28th, 2018 - 3:20pmBut how in the hell is the fact that it’s purple mean it’s not imitating the series. The Doctor wore Green and Blue suits in the show so how does that make the art piece not be reflecting a “Quintessential reflection”. That and putting a blue suit on blue background is asking for trouble.
Alex
February 28th, 2018 - 3:27pmAnd I only mentioned the Artists choices because it seems a unfair and disingenuous to criticise the artist for putting things in and leaving them out when it was stuff that wasn’t actually up to her.
Jordan Scott
February 28th, 2018 - 3:40pmJust want to point out that the whole “it wasn’t the artists fault – she was forced to use that image” argument is false (as can be seen on Twitter), she was only told to use John Simm – however the many inaccurate images used were chosen by her.
Anonymous
February 28th, 2018 - 3:52pmAlthough the inaccurate images were chosen by the artist, they still passed the stages of BBC approval.
booboo
February 28th, 2018 - 4:45pmthought she said they told her to use the master “in that form” ie that pose / costume?
Anonymous
February 28th, 2018 - 5:11pmNo Booboo, that was false information, the artist herself said so on twitter, also mrtardisreviews on youtube did a video on that whole situation.
booboo
February 28th, 2018 - 5:31pmso she retracted that then or said it wasn’t true? because I’m sure that what i read
bottom line is though BBC approved this regardless
Pip
February 28th, 2018 - 7:25pmShe has since explained that ‘in that form’ refers to the Simm regeneration. It worries that how little she seems to know about the show despite also doing quite a few Titan comics.
DoctorSong2016
February 28th, 2018 - 8:30pmThe way she worded it in the original tweets, it implied that they had let her do what she wanted but strongly hinted to use the End of Time Master over the Series 3 one.
However she’s now given clarification that she was sent reference photos for both Simm and Jacobi, to which the BBC strongly hinted she use Simm, then she made the costume mistake herself and no one at the BBC picked up on it.
booboo
March 1st, 2018 - 8:21amright i see, so it was which master rather than which series
Anonymous
February 27th, 2018 - 5:17pmGood Going
The master sucked
Change the colour
Make the tardid better
and please change it to orange or red
Star Lord
February 27th, 2018 - 5:16pmGreat news, just slightly conflicted over whether I should pre-order now or wait for a new release date announcement.
Anon
February 27th, 2018 - 5:06pmSo the moaners and groaners get there way again while the ones that like the art get ignored.
booboo
February 27th, 2018 - 5:11pmthe BBC should be congratulated for taking criticism on board – especially if it effects sales which it very clearly was and puts future releases in jeopardy
one would imagine the vast majority welcome the change the negativity was overwhelming
Moodbeam
February 27th, 2018 - 5:52pmIt’s the errors that are the problem, not the actual artwork itself. The front would be great if the Master was altered to the correct one (or better still moved to the back) and the back would be much better if they either replaced the Angels with the Master or at the very least removed the huge Angel acting as a backdrop which is actual an image of a Big Chief figure as opposed to being from the show itself.
Merlin
February 27th, 2018 - 9:06pmWhile I welcome the change, I personally hope it doesn’t reinforce the unnecessary negative attitudes which have become so apparent since the introduction on the new Doctor. Nor would I hope for this to reflect too harshly on the artist. It pays to complain, but some genuinely take it too far.
Anonymous
March 10th, 2018 - 5:02pmYou actually like them using the wrong master?
Pip
February 27th, 2018 - 2:08pmThe BBC have said via Facebook that they will amend the artwork to correct it however this will mean delaying the release.
WouldYouLikeAJellyBaby?
February 27th, 2018 - 2:06pmThe BBC’s official Doctor Who Facebook page have just said this: “Hi all, thanks for your feedback and pointing out your issues with the artwork. We will correct the artwork for the final release, which unfortunately means we will have to delay the release date. We’ll let you know once the new date is confirmed! Thanks for being on point always.”
