Doctor Who Series 1 Steelbook Blu-Ray

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk

Relive the acclaimed first series of Doctor Who with this limited edition Steelbook exclusive to Amazon.

Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor is wise and funny, cheeky and brave. An alien and a loner (it’s difficult keeping up with friends when your day job involves flitting through time and space), his detached logic gives him a vital edge when the world’s in danger.

But when it comes to human relationships, he can be found wanting. That’s why he needs new assistant Rose. Rose is a shop-girl from the present day. From the moment they meet, the Doctor and Rose are soulmates.

I changed to Blu-ray from Series 7 onwards and have never given a second thought to replacing my older DVD boxsets. But the Series 9 and Sherlock Series 4 steelbooks on my shelf are absolutely gorgeous, and today’s price-drop finally swayed me towards pre-ordering this.

How many times has series 1 been re-released now? It’s a nice cover but I don’t think a lot of people will buy it

It’s £24.99 now, but so too was the Power of the Daleks blu ray, but when it came out, I was only charged £22.99, but on the web it went back up to £24.99 later the same day. Pre-order now and you may get a discount on day of release

Upscale, it’s likely gonna be the same as the blu-ray release just with a different print on the disk and a nice new case.

It can only be an upscale as Doctor Who wasn’t recorded in High Definition until Planet of the Dead. However, if it was a new upscale at the correct speed I’d buy it. Highly unlikely though.

One thing that does bother me is how they use the classic logo on anything that isn’t Capaldi era now.

I just wish that for this steelbook (and hopefully if they release more) they would use a white variant of the 2005 logo for Series 1-4 + specials, a white version of the 2010 logo (Doctor DW Who) for Series 5 and 6 and a white version of the 2012 logo (Doctor Who DW) for Series 7 and the 50th Anniversary specials, and then the 2014 logo for the Capaldi items.

I also wonder, if they release steelbooks for the rest of the series, how they would do the 2009 and the 2013 specials. We already have the nice 50th Anniversary collectors Blu-Ray… would they just repackage that as a steelbook? Thats one of my biggest problems with this show – all the home releases have been so inconsistent xD

Yes, Should Have Been Release a while back

    • JA

      February 16th, 2017 - 10:52pm

I think they did it for consistency, people like a matching set. Since Series 1-7 are considered “Classic” in the eyes of the BBC, the classic logo was the best choice for consistency. Same thing should happen to all merch from Capladi’s era by next year.

    • Nicholas Brent

      February 17th, 2017 - 10:34am

But it isn’t even consistent this way because all of the Capaldi stuff has the current logo. If they do release steelbooks for the other series, what if by time they get to Series 8 it’s 2018 and has the classic logo on it. It won’t match Series 9. Tis silly.

    • James A

      February 17th, 2017 - 8:01pm

Then they should re-release Series 9 with the classic logo then too, makes sense. They re-released the Series 7 DVD with the classic logo like 9 months after its initial release.

    My thoughts
Very Nice but i already have the standard blu ray which I got £17.99
I Think this is a bit too expensive for an upscale the art work is nice but too expensive and I would prefer it to be slightly lower in price

More money grabbing! I’ve already got all the series & the spin-offs, so I don’t need to get this. I also hate Blu-Ray because they are only money grabbing items. It actually doesn’t make the sound of picture any better.

That’s not true at all. Blu-Ray is far superior to DVD. But assuming we’re just talking Doctor Who here, Series 1-4 might only be an upscale but there is a noticeable difference in quality.

      February 16th, 2017 - 8:46pm

I actually think that the sound and picture quality is better on blu ray, but i dont get them for everything. I have got Suicide Squad and ill only get another blu ray if i really enjoyed the film/program.

Blu rays are overrated, but if its something u really like watching, go for it.

I love the look of this, Ive been wanting to get Series 1-9 on blu ray for a while now (although i already have them on Dvd) because i got a blu ray player for christmas and i was going to buy the Series 1-7 blu ray boxset but that is too expensive now and im so glad i waited because now i can hopefully get the blu ray steelbooks for all the series’ if they release one for Series 2-8

Beautiful, but too expensive for me to duplicate. Wish I never had any Doctor Who new series DVD’s now, because it’s clear they will do multiple steelbooks if this one does well, to fit with the Series 9 one. I never bought the Series 9 one for the sake of consistency, and now they’ll release others to fit in with it.

Agreed. When Capaldi leaves, they’ll probably re-release Series 8-10 with the classic DW logo, since any past Doctor’s series is considered “classic” in the eyes of the BBC.

Annoys me that the ‘series 1’ text is so close to the logo on the spine, can they not space these things out given the length of the spine?
