Really great to see this happening. I very nearly gave up collecting these as I felt there wasn’t much point due to always having a gap. So pleased to be able to now have the full collection. Absolutely the right decision by the BBC to keep fans happy.

I have just spoken to zoom. They are aware of the reissue but the dates and information have not yet been received, so they cannot secure stock yet. She says that amazon are simply reactivating the old link for the product and advertising a date that has not yet been announced.

So whats the opinion of collectors pre ordering this copy having already had the benefit of the first edition?

There must be an identifying marker on it (perhaps bar code number?)

Happy to see it finally being up for preorder. Im surprised it’s out this soon in the year. It might confuse some retailers with the other s12 that’s out 2 weeks later. Doesn’t give it much time to promote it. Thrilled for those that missed it

I don,t think it will matter that much since it is an older release. I shouldn,t think it needs the promotion as much as the new stuff. Anybody who is desperate for this will have made there minds up months ago and if all those Special effects etc are newly intact and there are no problems as in the first run, this will no doubt sell out again.

      February 5th, 2020 - 12:06am

With it being a limited run who knows how many extra they have produced as it must be a set number. Hence the release date being so soon.

Hoping it is not exclusive to Amazon so there are other options to buy elsewhere.

But, at least it isn’t taking the place of another new set. And it will include the fixed discs that had errors on the original release.

So I’ve been thinking/cahtting with other fans about ideas for the collection blurays Tardis booklet doors for future sets. Heres my ideas. Be great to hears others or if you like mine.

    3. Daleks in front off Tardis scanning it (Master plan).
    4. Tardis in the snow with cybermen (tenth planet) or Tardis on airport runway (Faceless).
    5. Tardis covered in webs (web of fear) or Tardis on the sea (Fury).
    6. Tardis breaking up (Mind robber) or 2nd dr, jamie & Zoey crawling to the tardis (war games)
    7. 3rd dr falling out of the Tardis (spearhead)
    8. 3rd & the master in front of the tardis.
    9. Tardis on the beach with sea devils behind.
    11. 3rd dr and tardis on metebelis 3 with the great one behind (planet of the spiders).
    13. 4th dr & sarah, Tardis in front of house with the krynoids crawling over it (seeds of doom).
    15. Tardis with lighthouse (fang rock) or tardis on Gallifrey (invasion).
    16. Tardis in the middle of the stones, 4th dr & Romana piecing the key to time together.
    17. Shada tardis with 4th drs scarf dangling out the doors or tardis near scargoths ship (city of death).
    20. Tardis, Turlough drawing, tegan & the 5th dr or drs 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 in front of the tardis.
    21. Tardis with destroyed daleks around and tegan (resurrection).

Some great ideas there, seasons 1 and 4 in particular. I don’t know if 4 would happen as the cybermen were all to the left of the tardis at the end of tenth planet 1 from what I remember and the tardis doors are always in the middle which opens to reveal the booklet so Lee Binding would have to create a generic image and put the cybermen either side. I’d definitely take that though as I love the original cybermen. Have you looked at the comments for the season 14 set? Someone has made a list like this of what the doctor should be holding on each cover which may be of interest.

    January 17th, 2020 - 9:42am

It’s taking ages. You would have thought the BBC would have set a website up so anyone who wanted to get a copy could sign up so they would know roughly the numbers of how many more they will need. Ive got a feeling, hoping I’m wrong, that it will happen again: they will run out.

    • James

      January 18th, 2020 - 9:40pm

Not for pre-orders. Just to gather a rough estimate of the quantity of how many may be needed

    • Gordon

      January 18th, 2020 - 10:45pm

The number of pre order numbers judge how large or small the print run is. The higher the pre order the larger the number of copies produced.

    • Rob W

      January 21st, 2020 - 2:38pm

The Faceless Ones was announced last January and Fury From The Deep was available to pre-order around the same time as this S12 re-release (end of October 2019). They could at least give a rough estimate eg Summer.

    • Gordon

      January 21st, 2020 - 3:04pm

The faceless ones went up on pre order in June 4th and are completely different kettle of fish to the season 12 reissue. The early pre order figures of the animated doctor who releases dictate whether or not there is future animations and how much budget future animations get. That’s why they get put up as early as they do. The Preorder sales of the reissued season 12 release isn’t going to dictate other reissues. They will put it up for preorder when they are ready to do so. It’s supposedly soon according to lee binding. Doubt it will be the next couple of weeks though. season 26 is due out next week and needs it’s time in the spotlight and the series 5 steelbook is also due.

    • Gordon

      January 21st, 2020 - 11:41pm

Also worth noting that russell Minton who produces these sets would have been busy finishing off season 26 and also producing season 14 at the same time when the reissue of season 12 was announced. They probably didn’t have a date at that point. Plus if they had announced a rough date and it did slip people would only go doolaly if it isn’t out then. I mean people go nuts if these sets are delayed a couple of weeks so i dread to think how people’s reaction would be if it had to get pushed back 2-3 months.

    • Rob W

      January 22nd, 2020 - 3:42pm

I don’t dispute anything you say mate, they said soon in October so fingers-crossed, it would be nice to have a week or so notice prior to the release date as this set is eagerly awaited.

Also months away from release, there’s pre-orders for Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga BD set, so come on BBC this was announced in October so how’s about an update or a release date? Talk about building up people’s expectations…

    • Gordon

      January 13th, 2020 - 10:52pm

The SkyWalker saga is only 2 and a half months away from release. It’s not that far off. It went on presale 18th december which gave it just under 3 and a half months between the pre order going up and release. It’s roughly the same amount of pre order time as the collection sets. Most film companies like their films on preorder to buy the day it hits theatres. Bbc are only just away to promote s14 which isn’t out till March/April. If it’s june as rumours persist it’s still a couple of months too early to start putting it on pre order. The other season sets got 3-4 months pre order window before release so I can’t see this being any different. I don’t really understand why there has to be an update if it’s not out for about 5 months. There’s nothing to update bar it’s coming out at a future date. An update is not needed at this precise moment. Bbc will update us and put it on sale for preorder when the time is right. It’s not like they will just sneak thing out without telling anyone

I hope so much, that this comes out soon. My son is has Autism and a big fan of this. He loves the new blue ray collection with, the art work. He has been after this for quite some time. Even today he was going to part with £190 for season 12 in cex until I stopped him and told him to wait. However being Autistic means lots of worry about not completing his new blue ray collection.
I must say I’m one stressed out mum, who really needs to get hold of this asap so my son. Can be calm and happy again. It’s a shame that some well named things like Dr who, doesn’t think that some of their customers, are those that are Autistic, who have meltdowns if they cannot complete a collection etc. It would be nice if they helped out children and families that are like that, by putting so many copies somewhere, so that those autistic children whose special interest is dr who etc, can get a copy by writing directly to the suppliers. It really would help the children and the parents. And I wouldn’t even mind submitting evidence to show he was genuine etc. He won’t even have the American version etc. Because the slightest thing out of place on the box means it’s not right to him. I cannot thank the chap enough for petitioning for it to be re realesed etc.

Whilst I sympathize with your son and I do having friends with autism where do you stop? Other types of people could claim they wanted the same treatment too eg epilepsy sufferers…stroke survivors…disabled people…war veterans…the list could go on making it unfair for other doctor who fans.saying that…these scammers on eBay should not be allowed a chance to buy multiple copies so one per order should be implemented. I myself fall into those categories above(not scammer though) and I too am so anxious to get a copy.I really do understand your frustration but if you said that’s the case for one set of sufferers would that not make it unfair for other medical problems then if they too were the case it would be unfair for the people lucky enough not to be burdened with these problems. That is why pre order takes place. I hope your son gets a copy of it…I do so good luck and don’t pay silly money. Cex whilst running a business should be ashamed of themselves putting their hat in you could say with these eBay jokers. Good luck

I want to know what happened to series 17 it’s gone from being a very strong 2019 rumour to obscurity lots of rumours for 2020 14, 21, 11 and 6 but 17 has dropped from the radar. I was starting to get excited, City of Death would look brilliant with a polish

Season 17 had banked extras recorded with Lalla Ward. Season 17 seems to a bit farther away now. But a Tom season is still coming, 14. Also I thought the other unofficially confirmed season was 20, not 21.

    • Gordon

      December 29th, 2019 - 7:15pm

They only banked extras for 17 as lalla was moving to Hong Kong. 20 has been unofficially confirmed for mid 2020. 2 is the other season that is rumoured. Due to the sheer size of season 2 we may only get 3 sets next year. If it is 4 next year it will probably be 11

    • Bobby Fackrell

      January 1st, 2020 - 4:07pm

      2 I was hoping for 6!!!!

I love all the 60s stuff but we need Troughton!!!!

Yes 20 was the rumour not 21 my fault, 21 was my prediction based on the quality of the episodes in that season many of the stories have been remastered several times already which would help with the transfer but that has since be superseded by strong rumours of 20. A shame really as 20 is the weakest of the Davison series by far. Enlightenment is a work of art though and assuming Five Doctors is on it then that one could look good with a blu ray faceover

I thought they would try to get this out for Christmas. Hope it isn’t going to be until next year.

They’ve said in the past they try to avoid Christmas as a sale date, the market is so heavily saturated it isn’t worth releasing anything during December so they would aim big releases for November or January instead.

While we’re waiting for this, HMV online has seasons 10, 18 and 19 currently listed as in stock…

Thanks for the heads-up – nabbed one for £50 instead of the bloated eBay price I nearly paid!

for the most part expect, there is some debate as to if there might be some minor differences to maintain the limited edition status of the original

CEX are now offering £40 for the original set and not the £220 for voucher that they were last week. Sees they’ve got wind of the release.

I said they,d drop the price further. Thats put a stop to that for anybody with ideas. They will just have to try there luck with Ebay now .

You can guarantee if your thinking of cashing in somebody else is thinking the same thing. Gives fans a chance now to grab a copy.

I traded mine just in time for cash. Was there today and my old copy is still sitting on shelf for £220 to buy.

I originally bought mine on ebay and paid over the odds but thought best to get some money back now and I do intend to buy it again next year on the re-release.

I was lucky enough to get Series 12 because I preordered it ( as always) and I’m so happy that they are making new ones. Series 12 is one of the best 🙂 The price was absolutely crazy on eBay and amazon for an upscaled DW ! Some people are mad !
The guy said in panel a ” Short Run of Extra of those” …So it will be the same packaging for sure.

I’ve heard rumours of a June release but whether or not it’s accurate I’ve no idea.

Cex is offering £208 cash and £252 for voucher. If I knew for certain I’d get 1 and it’s the same packaging I’d cash it in

      November 7th, 2019 - 6:55pm

Which would be 2 years after the initial release then if the rumours true.

      November 7th, 2019 - 7:34pm

You ought to have kept that quiet Gordon. CEX will probably wise up and now lower the buying/selling price.

    • The Ergon

      November 8th, 2019 - 2:23pm

Cex selling price now dropped to £155. I knew they would catch on knowing this is going for Rerelease.

      November 8th, 2019 - 4:03pm

I expect when it does get released for the prices to drop further still. There will no doubt be somebody who works for CEX and other online stores like this that will have noticed these comments and have passed the word on. Anything that helps discourage multibuyers with greedy nefarious intentions can only be a good thing. Leave the fans something.

Thanks for that James, good to see the news of season 12’s re-release as it happened. Shame about the disingenuous pillock at the end upsetting all those fans who have spent their hard earned cash on buying season 12 on Ebay for hundreds of pounds – it got a cheap laugh from the panel too.

    • Chris

      November 5th, 2019 - 11:57am

I know what you mean Simon, but it works both ways. Those who paid the silly prices (that many, myself included, couldn’t afford) drove that secondary market. Hard to have too much sympathy with those who can afford to spend hundreds on a Blu-ray!

Happy that more people will get the chance to own it, just hope they do enough so that those who want one can get one.

      November 5th, 2019 - 1:46pm

Cheers Chris I agree with you entirely, just isn’t nice to have your nose rubbed in it by those guys when £300 is a painful purchase. I think there will be a lot of traders snapping up multiple copies of the re-release, making it difficult for the fans to buy one. Even at the normal run rate of the other seasons we are seeing £100 plus on Ebay for them now they are out of stock. I would think a Season 12 will still be selling for £150 after the re-release has sold out and there will be plenty willing to pay.

      Series 10: none
      Series 12: disc 3 and disc 5
      Series 18: disc 1
Series 19: disc 1 (us only)
      Series 23: none
