Doctor Who Magazine Issue 584

David Tennant is the Fourteenth Doctor… and although it will be a year until we see his TV adventures, the story continues in Doctor Who Magazine issue 584.

An epic new comic-strip adventure, written by Alan Barnes and illustrated by Lee Sullivan, picks up directly where The Power of the Doctor left off.

Editor Marcus Hearn says, “Russell T Davies, our new showrunner, has long admired the DWM strip. And that’s why he’s granted us the honour of telling the Fourteenth Doctor’s first story in an adventure that dovetails with the most recent episode. For the first time in our 43-year history, the strip is now in lockstep with the television series’ continuity.”

Russell T Davies says, “From day one, I wanted to increase ties between the show and the magazine. I love it when we’re in sync! A lot of people will be thinking, David’s not the real Doctor, he’s a trick, an illusion, a flashback. But no. He’s real. And DWM can help us underline that.”

Other highlights of the new issue include:

  • Meet the New Team – the producers, directors and other crew members of Doctor Who tell us what they’re looking forward to in the 2023 Specials and beyond.
  • Letter from the Showrunner – in the first of his new regular columns, Russell T Davies reveals what brought him back to Doctor Who.
  • Production Diary – script editor Scott Handcock provides exclusive updates about forthcoming episodes, direct from Doctor Who’s HQ.
  • Reach up for the Sunrise – David Tennant, Russell T Davies, former showrunner Chris Chibnall, directors Rachel Talalay and Jamie Magnus Stone, and CG artist Ben Pickles describe shooting The Power of the Doctor’s regeneration sequence.
  • The Strip of a Lifetime – Russell T Davies, Scott Handcock, Alan Barnes and Lee Sullivan on creating the Fourteenth Doctor’s first adventure.
  • The Watchers – fans who were lucky enough to be granted studio visits in the 1960s and early 70s recall the thrill of watching Doctor Who being made.
  • Hack to the Future – an interview with artist Robert Hack about the new illustrated version of David Whitaker’s seminal novel Doctor Who and the Daleks.
  • Collectivity: The TARDIS – meet the fans for whom collecting police-box merchandise has been a lifelong passion.
  • Factory Records – the sets of 1966’s The Power of the Daleks are recreated, providing new insights into this mostly missing story.
  • The Fact of Fiction encounters Cybermen and Daleks as it looks back at 2006’s Army of Ghosts.
  • Other Worlds – an essential guide to forthcoming stories in the expanded Doctor Who universe.
  • Previews, reviews, news, prize-winning competitions, Time and Space Visualiser, Sufficient Data and more.

Doctor Who Magazine Issue 584 is on sale Thursday 10 November from www.panini.co.uk and WH Smith priced £6.99 (UK).

REFERING TO NO PREVIEW IN THE LATEST DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE FOR THE NEXT ISSUE CAN I REMIND ALL FANS WHO HAD TROUBLE WITH THE LATEST ISSUE THAT THE NEXT ISSUE SHOULD BE OUT A WEEK ON THURSDAY 8TH DECEMBER BUT THERE MUST BE A REASON WHY THE MAGAZINE HAS NOT ADVERTISED THE NEXT ISSUE AND I HAVE STARTED TO HAVE A FEAR THAT THE MAGAZINE IS NOT DOING SO GOOD TAKING IN THE DISTRUBUTION PROBLEMS AND WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THIS MAGAZINE MIGHT BE ON THE VERGE OF GOING DIGITAL ONLY.I SAY THIS WITH CAUTION AS DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN

The comic strip has the Doctor getting his Greek letters wrong. It should be delta, sigma, rho (instead of epsilon, delta, rho).

Hi, I use pocketmags and subscribe to the Doctor Magazine, 12 months
They have a Black Friday offer saving about an extra £16
Only 3 issues into the subscription, do you know if I can take advantage of this offer to follow on after the first has completed?
I ask as you have great connections with suppliers and to bring it to your attention for other followers of your site.
I started with pocketmags as it was getting impossible to get some of the special issues.
    Thanks

Pocketmags were great. They replied promptly, telling me to purchase the Black Friday subscription and then let them know. Got a further mail telling me they had extended the original subscription. Result, very happy, highly recommended.

I purchased the only copy of the DW magazine in the local supermarket yesterday. I haven’t seen any copies anywhere.

W.H Smith has none of Issue 584.

Even Forbidden Planet in London didn’t have any copies.

    Unbelievable!

Some greedy individuals are selling the Tennant issue for £70.00 online……

Blast – am trying to get hold of the 167 Troughton Chronicles – in all the 4 or 5 Smiths I regularly pop into I’ve only ever seen 1 copy!

It’s a strange thing to happen. I always skip to the back cover, to see what will be in the next issue. I think they are doing this, so the surprise isn’t ruined.

Success! After the rain stopped,I went down to my local Morrison at Kirkstall, Leeds and picked up a copy.
I must say The Doctor Who and the Daleks novel pictures look fantastic! Particularly the one of Ian kneeling at the entrance of The TARDIS . The original TARDIS Console and set is still the best.

While I’m aware that the current issue of DWM has massive distribution problems.Does anyone actually know that they’ve actually been printed and will turn up albeit late.Im holding out as I’m hoping it’s just late rather than the factory has exploded and only 250 survived

Tennant looks incredibly suspicious of the new logo.

    “I recognise that logo.

    What?

I hope we just have to wait and it’s readily available.

I got an email from DWM, still not clear exactly what will happen.

“I’ve made enquires and yes, our distribution people tell us that there have been a few problems in the North of England and Scotland. This has been compounded by the fact that in areas where the mag has arrived in shops on time, it’s sold out within the day!”

WH Smiths have not recieved any in store in the North though.

So that’s a vast loss for the sales.

      November 14th, 2022 - 4:35pm

That doesn’t mean they won’t still send them out to the north. There has been a mistake which they will probably try to fix and get issues out to those areas that missed out

Further to earlier posts I have now cancelled the highest bidder following an angry message which left me in no doubt that the person was simply pushing up the price for no real reason other than to cause a stir. As such the price has dropped to £77 and I am checking on the new highest bidder. I would rather sell it at lower price than deal with a bitter fan who will not pay. K
