I think they realise it’s just a glitch due to lockdown.
They know if they whether the storm, things will soon be back to normal.

Just got my issue in Sainsbury’s and it continually rang up at £9.99…eventually the assistant saw the price over the barcode and corrected the price.

You wouldn’t know that we’ve still got a Thirteenth Doctor as she’s barely been featured on the covers let alone many articles on her era? And the comic strip is being rested again from next issue!

Its my biggest bug . Even when there is 1 interview /feature+comic strip. the cover should still be Jodie (or the current Doctor. )

      Its even a BBC low key thing too. With;
FYI ; There were two Doctor who Novels(shorts with b/w line drawings.one even has chapter 3 of the Nimon Story as cross publicity)

Team Tardis Diaries. And The whole Fam are on the cover. But young looking, but we take anything at the moment)

Because, ironically, that’s not what the readership wants. At the outset of the Jodie run they tried to aim the magazine at modern era fans and it failed. Maybe fans of the current iteration are not people who buy magazines? Given that physical media is sadly on the verge of obsolescence that’s not a surprise.

The publishers are aware of the demographic that’s still buying and if it’s mainly middle-aged men then that’s who the content has to be aimed at. Otherwise cancellation is certain. The resting of the comic strip is testament to that.

Do you really think that if Jodie cover issues sold well she wouldn’t be on it every month?

They do anything on Jodie people complain. They don’t do anything on Jodie people complain. They do something about the older stories people complain, they do something about the modern era people complain. They can’t win.

If the current production team had something to say or bothered to let the magazine on set as Davies and Moffat did then it may be different. Chibnall has kept everything so quiet that there’s nothing whatsoever coming out from the actors or producers. Chibnall barely bothers to do the production notes page that the other two show runners did every single issue.

It’s not as much of a decrease as you might think – when you take into account that up to 2011 there was a series every year (rather than every 18 months), the series were 3 weeks longer (4 when there was a Eurovision gap – so as-it-airs coverage took an extra issue or so), new Doctor & companion announcements happened basically every year (and they all got covers), and the Sarah Jane Adventures got a cover for each of its first four series.

Even in the RTD gap year there were fewer new series covers than when there was a series on; but the regular specials, Matt Smith/Karen Gillan announcements and SJA got covers, whereas nowadays in the between-series gaps all there tends to be to report on is one festive special. You can probably (at a generous estimate) account for one or two non-Jodie covers per season that are to do with lack of set access and/or audience interest.

Great issue especially the illustrators article. Cover looks great with no text. I used to do illustrations for fanzines and wish I’d kept it up! For me the best ‘Who’ illustrator will always be Frank Bellamy.

Sadly the magazine arrived with the spine badly damaged. I wish Panini would post things in card envelopes rather than these flimsy poly bags that offer no protection at all.

It’s a shame because otherwise their subscription service is fantastic!

I agree about the plastic bags they send them in. I email them when the magazine is badly damaged and they send a replacement.

Thanks Darren I’ll do that! If this happens a lot you’d think the cost of replacement issues would make them think twice.

      You’d think.
I’ve been subscribing since the start of the first lockdown, around a 1/3 of the magazines have been damaged in the post. I won’t be renewing once this sub ends, I just can’t bare the waste!

How are they damaged? I don’t subscribe to DWM but do to the New Scientist. They come in plastic wrapping. In over 15 years I’ve never had a damaged copy. Even before Covid copies were late, that ‘s rural NE Scotland for you, but never damaged.

Maybe you have super careful posties, unfortunately mine fold the magazine hard in half and ram it through the postbox unless I get the door first.

      Hi Pete,

I’ve had a couple with bad cover creases (although one seemed to be before it was put in the bag) and a couple with spine creases. This one had several really bad spine breaks and a rip right the way through the whole magazine.

It’s not my postie who is fantastic, is always careful and never stuffs things through the letterbox. I think its before it gets to him!

Getting a replacement sent so thanks again for the advice Darren!

      Yes, it arrived.
With the cover and half the pages torn in the top left corner. Tear is approx two cm long.

Hmm – The mystery of the Marie Celeste – as we all know, it’s the Mary Celeste if they’re talking about the ship in The Chase. Perhaps it’s something else!

Nope, title refers to the story from the last Troughton annual. The article’s one in a series by my mate Steve.

Nnn I hate to be negative but we’ve just had two bookazines specifically about the 1960s and one of them was entirely about Daleks, can’t we have something a little different?

New CG images recreate sets from The Moonbase. Pretty much the same thing they did with feast of Steven a few months back.

Lovely cover, they used to get Daleks so wrong at times but they are cool to see!
Isn’t this the one that had a roll of tape jammed in the front section during shooting at the BBC and the illustrator spotted it in a photo and thought it was part of the design? I remember reading that somewhere years ago.

Who ever has made this cover (Gavin Rymil,Rob Seminoff?) is a genius. How you take something 2D from the 60’s and make it 3D for the 2020’s, is simply stunning.

Looks like more Fablousness from the DWM team , even if I would love to see more Jodie covered (& covers 🙂 )

The Artist is Anthony Lamb, who does a lot of Dalek models, and has done the 4th doctor big finish covers up until the end of last year’s stuff.
