but then it would’nt mean anything, it would be just like saying John Smith algthough if he’s last name is slitheen, that would reveal a lot πŸ˜†

I don’t want the fiftieth anniversary episode to be about the Doctor’s name and the Clara story arc. I want it to be a great story that stands alone. That’s my greatest fear…

i think it is anyway. I think they resolve the name of the doctor in ‘The Name of the Doctor’ and I read somewhere that they resolve the mystery to clara at the end of this series as well, but then whatever we discover at the end, will then (possibly) have a major impact on what happens in the 50th!!

Why not? At the end of the day, he has already said there is only one time he could ever reveal it so it wouldn’t matter if he says it there as nobody else would ever find it out.

The mystery would be prolonged elsewhere even if we did know it.

No Cyber King 281 is actually quite write, cos the name of the show is a very real question, and if his name was revealed, then you’d probably be saying to yourself each time you watch a later episode “Why do they still call it Doctor Who ? – WE KNOW HIS NAME NOW !!!!!”.

Like Ive been saying thou, it’s a Moffat wind up.

If it’s done well then answering one question will lead to even more questions and the mystic of the series will remain if not get deeper. I think back to LOST, almost every time they resolved a big mystery it lead to a new and bigger mystery. For Who I think that’s the way to go for the 50th answer a major mystery and open up a whole new direction going forward. Over the years Who has kept re-inventing itself and that’s what I like about it, rarely a dull moment.

I suppose if they do reveal his name, it wont be Doctor Who as in Who his name is but i bet he will have another secret as in who and what he really is so it will be Doctor Who as in Who he really is
(sorry if all this is a bit confusing)

What if the doctor whispers his name to river, then when the others ask what his name is he says “the doctor” and smiles, then the episode ends. And it could be something else that leads into the 50th, not the mystery of his name.

Personally I want a different story for the 50th and to finish the name mystery in series 7, or maybe the episode could end with 10s tardis materialising where 11, clara and river are!!!

This is unlikely but how about:
He is asked the question “doctor who?”
And he just simply replies “I can’t remember”
“I’ve called myself the doctor for nearly 1000 years now, had a few regenerations since I last used my real name, and had amnesia a couple of times in my lives. So as I can’t remember, my name is THE DOCTOR.” Doubt it, but maybe.

Maybe Moffatt will try an idea akin to a story I remember being read during an english lesson (Arthur C. Clarke I think ) where some monks list all of the names of God and the minute theyve completed the task the story ends with the stars starting to go out 1 by 1….

Read the original version of ‘The Making of Doctor Who’ in which the court records of the Timelords reveal the Doctors name to be delta cubed sigma x squared….also seen on the pillars in Rassilon’s tomb.
As the book was written by Mac Hulke and Terrance Dicks that’s good enough for me. The name to me suggests potential matrix co-ordinates where all of the Doctors data was stored.

Dont know why Moffatt’s added this mystique as if it were his own when they were suggesting the Doctor was ‘God’ back in the McCoy era.

It’s said he is a reincarnation of ‘The Other’, or rather he was originally known by that name before calling himself the Doctor.

Infact, the 7th Doctor suggested such a thing, we he said to Ace in ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ when talking about the hand of Omega –

“Ha, and didn’t we have trouble with the prototype”.

Sure his messed up with the Daleks, both for the horrid 2010 re-design and the silly idea of making them forget everything about the Doctor, but he won’t have the Doctor’s real name revealed, otherwise what is the point of calling the show DOCTOR WHO still ?.
