Doctor Who Liberation Of The Daleks Paperback

Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com, www.amazon.co.uk and www.waterstones.com

Picking up from where the previous Doctor Who TV series left off, Liberation of the Daleks is the 14th Doctor’s first official adventure. A new regeneration, but a familiar face, this exclusive comic strip collection, sees the return of the Doctor’s deadliest enemies – the Daleks! Taken from the pages of Doctor Who Magazine, this 13-part tale bridges the gap between recent episodes, tying directly into the new TV series continuity.

American reporting in again: There was someone on Amazon purportedly selling this for the last week or so, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were UK exports or some sort of scam, but now that’s all gone and the site’s listing I guess is defaulting to the official stateside publication we’re getting.. which won’t be ready until March.

    That’s certainly a bummer.

Just out of interest, was this write up from a press release? As I’ve just got the graphic, which I preordered, and it’s got no behind the scenes stuff in it at all! Just an introduction by Alan Barnes.

Looks like the release date for this has changed from 1 Nov to 23rd, so likely to arrive after the specials. Disappointing, was looking forward to reading these in advance of them.

I will be reading this first, then watch the Specials after; on DVD release.

Need to change the blurb: its not a 13 part tale as it continues into the next issue, and maybe beyond.

I hope this comic is ignored in the 60th, meeting the Daleks is a big tv event, not something for a random comic to deal with. Same thing with his post regeneration thoughts and feelings. We need it on screen, unless this is a way to cut out all of that baggage so we can get straight into the action in the 60th. I suppose it makes sense, they don’t want David Tennants return to be bogged down by regeneration based confusion and sickness, it just feels a bit cheap to deal with major plot bits completely off screen. Feels like Star Wars

From what RTD has hinted at in DWM this comic is set prior to the specials and the specials are set some amount of time later once 14 has settled into the regeneration.

I have no idea whether the Daleks might make a small cameo in the 60th, but I get the impression that’s exactly why this comic story exists: so that Fourteen can get a Dalek story. From RTD’s comments at the start of the comic, Liberation takes up the first hour of Fourteen’s life, and then it’s more or less directly into the TV specials. Although there didn’t seem to be much/any regenerative confusion in the comic, he’s just straight into action.

Not if you buy the magazine it isn’t. Be £100+ if you could only access via the magazine

I believe this isn’t the same size as the graphic novels we’ve come to know. It’s the smaller format, perfect bound magazines that WHSmith sell.

Like the original 9th doctor collection then. Probably means they’ll release it again in a different format with one extra story and get even more money out of us…

The 9th doctor comics were released first as a bookazine style publication before getting the graphic novel release. Is this going to be a bookazine sized book?

      11518
      Number of pages: 100
      Dimensions: 297 x 210 mm

      According to the Waterstones website
Same size as the The Regular Graphics. It’s bigger certainly than The Daleks collection ( TV 21)

would make sense to be the same size as the regular Graphics for Collectors but then some are mm taller or wider than others so non are Regular.

Cheers Bryan. Not to bothered about the size really, just pleased it’s actually being released.

Will this make sense for people who don’t read the magazine or buy the book? Or will it be like the mini pudsey cutaway episode between parting of the ways and Christmas invasion? Where if you didn’t see it and the 2 stories still linked up.

I get the impression that the 60th anniversary specials will start with the Doctor either in the TARDIS or having just arrived somewhere (i.e. he won’t be stood on Durdle Door). For those who only watch the TV eps it will be “shortly after” we last saw him, but those who read the comics will know he’s been up to stuff in the meantime. So both will work.

Anon. The Amazon link does have a bigger picture if you click on it.

But if you are talking pixels that will give you a full decent quality image you can print I guess you’ll have to wait til it is out and maybe buy it?

I’ve got it on my ‘To Buy’ list but was hoping for a larger picture so that I could see the details better. I’ll just have to wait until I can Pre-Order it.

Cover only had Alan barnes listed as author so I think it only features the liberation story. At 100 pages there isn’t room for any other stories.

I’m looking forward to reading it in full just before the 60th Specials start.

A nice prequel bonus as The Star Beast will no doubt start straight after it when the 14th Doctor lands in Camden.

All the comic strips from DWM have been released in their own publication. It’s been happening for years.
