Figurine Collection Magazine Time Lords Set #1

Hero Collector Announces New Doctor Who Time Lords Sets!

“I’m a Time Lord. I walk in eternity.”

Hero Collector – designers, manufacturers, and publishers of high-quality collectibles from across the worlds of pop culture – is proud to announce a brand new series of Doctor Who figurine box sets.

Based on the Doctor’s encounters with other members of their Gallifreyan race, the Doctor Who Time Lords sets will give fans an opportunity to collect some of the most memorable masters of the space-time continuum.

Each of the five sets will contain two Time Lords, faithfully recreated as hand-painted polyresin figurines at 1:21 scale (approximately 3.5 inches tall), complete with an in-depth companion magazine – highlighting the history, costumes, and stories behind these characters from the longest-running science fiction show on television!

The first Doctor Who Time Lords box set reunites two old friends – The Curator (Tom Baker) and the second incarnation of Romana (Lalla Ward).

The Curator was a mysterious Time Lord played by Tom Baker, the iconic actor behind the Fourth Doctor. In his brief meeting with Matt Smith’s Doctor, he hinted that he might be another incarnation of the Doctor – who knows? Who knows. The figurine captures the older Time Lord’s pensive air, one arm leaning on a cane and the other stroking his chin.

Romana (or Romanadvoratrelundar) was a rare Time Lord companion on the Doctor’s adventures, and (even rarer) his academic superior. Initially haughty, she and the Doctor soon warmed to each other. The figurine depicts Romana in her second incarnation, played by Lalla Ward, clad in her voluminous scarf and coat (echoing the Doctor’s own iconic outfit).

The Curator & Romana Box Set is going to be solicited in the January Diamond PREVIEWS catalogue, and will be available direct from HeroCollector.com or your favourite retailer in March 2020.

The box set joins Hero Collector’s ongoing range of 1:21 scale Doctor Who figurines, which explore aliens, monsters, robots, humans and Doctors from over five decades of classic science fiction TV.

Fans and collectors should stay tuned for further details about Hero Collector’s upcoming Doctor Who Time Lords box sets and others including Daleks and companions.

If you look at some of the other figurines like The Destroyer, The Ancient One, to name but two, the paint apps are just fantastic with intricate detail. Look at the hideous paintwork on Romana and some of the other companion set figurines and wonder if it’s the same company at all. A five year old with some paintbrushes could have done better. I am a collector from the start and i am now getting very disillusioned.

Well the curator is the double of Peter Cushing doctor who less the moustache and romano looks like she has a face pack on with a beard.

Got mine today. Big black splodge on Curator’s nose. Romana looks like a corpse. This is the second set which has had black paint on faces. Reported the last one, had no reply. Also had missing special dalek last time. Very poor at the moment, I dont think I’ll be buying any more.

On facebook some have arrived in appalling states. Mines due in an hour as they changed the delivery time. I don,t want to have to go through the process of returning like i have with a lot of the previous sets. I,m actually dreading opening the box when it arrives now.

DPD delivered out of route order, but at least they knocked this time! Box wasn’t mangled & had an airbag inside. Unfortunately neither figure looked like the character they were supposed to be & Tom had paint splotches on his face. Eaglemoss why do I bother???

      April 15th, 2020 - 3:55pm

They are just a representation of that person. With figurines this size you are never going to get the aspect right all of the time. Thats why the 5 inch+ figures look so much better in that regard. Its just unfortunate they can,t the paintwork right half the time.

      April 15th, 2020 - 5:12pm

My set arrived today, unfortunately the Curator figurine has fault with the sculpt as it has a lumpy forehead which is a shame as it has been well painted, Romana II is superb, sculpt is great and the paint app is really good.

    • The Ergon

      April 15th, 2020 - 5:39pm

Maybe eaglemoss should start a new line of Paint your own figurines rather like warlord. They could just see to the faces.

    • Alvin

      April 15th, 2020 - 9:33pm

      I’d buy unpainted daleks lol

I don’t think I’d be able to paint faces though, I think the people who paint the human faces don’t do too bad a job considering the time they’re given, I know I couldn’t paint faces as good.

    • The Ergon

      April 15th, 2020 - 11:29pm

Actually the little intricate details on costumes etc could also be a problem. There really should be stringent quality checks. Also how do they end up with lumps on the faces etc ? If they come out of moulds and there were proper checks at the end of the lehrs or whatever they use would know they were defects and ask the person who sees to the moulds/ casts to change them before paint applications and well before they are packed. It would be interesting to know the process they go through. They seem to chance the ones on customers that really should be rejected.

I feel seriously guilty buying non-essential items like these. However, I am working from home so could actually be here to “wave a tentacle” to the DPD driver. I just wished they used Post Office as per normal collections. DPD was an issue, for me, last year and prior year.

    Anybody ordered anything recently…

My local postman who we regularly talk to has said that the increase in online shopping is actually keeping them in a job at this time. If they had to halt their services or stop non-essential deliveries, who knows how many staff may get laid off etc.
With royal mail they leave your parcel at the door and step back so they’re all safe.
It was peace of mind for me too because I was thinking the same.

Actually how are DPD drivers operating when dropping off stuff because they need that signature. And if people like myself are self isolating, it goes against them. Anybody who has seen seen the Ken Loach Film ‘Sorry we missed You’ will know what i,m talking about.

I have had 2 DPD deliveries last week and they have not asked for a signature, they just leave the box where you ask them to and i think take a photo and sign it themselves as delivered

      both drivers were very courteous.

Thankyou for clearing that up for me with regards to signatures. Given these extraordinary times i suppose any delivery company could not afford to risk their drivers and put upon them for a definite signature. In normal circumstances i do make sure i,m in or ask for an alternate date. i sometimes comment late so apologies there. And i have been self isolating and just can,t shake this cough now, so needed to query this.

I wonder with Hero Collector saying their new series of time lord sets dalek sets and companion sets I wonder whether or not we would be able to subscribe to this…after all it is a new series of doctor who figurines box sets? If this was to sort of replace the collection then it would give those who don’t want to go on a way out as that would “officially” be the end of that collection. Then Hero Collector takes over and those who want more can carry on with the box sets etc. Just my opinion but it makes sense in a roundabout way.Would appreciate any comments on this.what you all reckon? But no bad argumentative messages at all please

Not a bad idea to be able to subscribe to a specific set of figures like this. Especially if it’s going to be an ongoing set. Even if the main figures do continue on beyond 180 (and hopefully they will) I think quiet a lot of people would be interested in subscribing to this or other sets individually from the main range. That would also give eaglemoss an idea of the potential number of sets they could produce. For example they could say subscribe to six sets or 12 and see what interest it generates. A very sensible idea.

Bonus issues are basically the two Daleks that are “online exclusives”, and I think the standard K-9 is counted as a bonus too because of this same reason, even though labelled as being a Special Issue on the cover.

That sounds like such an obvious attitude to have Neil, it’s the way I look at things, but others will always find it difficult to get beyond a “but that’s not right” attitude. I’ve just bought and read master pieces , a charity collection of master stories. Now the first story takes the viewpoint that the war chief was the master, personally I don’t agree as Terrance dicks’ timewyrm book clearly indicates he wasn’t the master. Thing is is doesn’t spoil the book for me. In fact the story is quite good. I just think, interesting idea, then move on. I have friends though who would be incandescent over it! These two figures look great and that is all that matters

Does it matter? You only ever seem to focus on negative things Bobby. A lalla and Tom set, and instead of being happy you have to be negative

He is not being negative about the set, just replying to someone else who says there are never seen to together in real life.

Ergon the series 12 negative comments have already started. I’m going to try not to read them but it’s the unjustified comments that get to me. I agree not all of series 11 stories were great but that’s an argument that can be levelled at every series of who all the way back to 1963. My problem is just the unpleasantness of the comments linked to the horrendous personal attacks on the actors and production people something which has also taken place for decades. Personally I thoroughly enjoyed Jodie’s first year and think her second looks great.

I also enjoyed some of Series 11 but for series 12 i,m keeping well out of it if last seasons are anything to go by. The season wasn,t flawless by a long chalk but it did have its fair share of enjoyable moments. The usual voices will come out of the woodwork once again to personally attack the actors etc, as you say, rather than deconstruct each episode in a positive light. Just wait till spyfall part one has aired, you,ll find it difficult not to want to wade into the arguments. Not me. On first viewing i,m just going to watch in awe and soak up the spectacle and look out for any future potential figures/ Figurines.

Actually ergon you’re right. I’ll happily watch and take from it what pleases me. But you’re right, it’ll just upset me to read the usual suspects rants so yeah, won’t read any comments, won’t even leave any comments. If the vote page is there I’ll vote then come out immediately. It’s sad I have to do that.

Are there certain figures that can’t be made due to certain rights? Just in general, not just time lords?

The Kandyman has long been one that most licensees have given a swerve to after the CEO complained to the BBC when The Happiness Patrol was going out 31 years back (you’ll find various discussions with n the internet about that – including some on here). Also, rumour has it, any ‘new’ characters in the 1996 TV Movie (so, no Grace, Chang Lee etc) are tricky because the rights to those characters are shared between the BBC and Universal. Also, some cases where they can’t get an actor to sign off on a product (long rumoured that Eric Roberts would not permit his likeness for any Who figures, toys etc of his Master – don’t actually know if that’s true and he has recently started doing Big Finish) or they cannot track down who is looking after a deceased actor’s estate (like Edward Brayshaw who played the War Chief). For years, the writers of the Yeti stories were quite tough customers (because they felt the BBC had taken licensing liberties in the past I think) but they have passed away now I believe and things seem to have softened a bit with their estate.
