Doctor Who Jungles of Mechanus 5.5″ Dalek Set

This item has sold out but you could keep checking www.character-online.com

Alternatively you can search for this item at www.ebay.co.uk or check www.amazon.co.uk

An ebay seller also has items for customs such as Claws and Cutting Arms

USA /Australian/ Outside of the EU buyers will have the VAT deducted. The total USA delivered cost seems to be around $45 or even less depending on location.

This unique set includes 2 x highly detailed 5.5 inch scale Daleks with points of articulation, and comes beautifully presented in Heritage style Doctor Who branded packaging with specially created insert. A must have for all Doctor Who fans and collectors.

Way back in 1965, a six-part First Doctor story entitled ‘The Chase’ became famous in the eyes of Doctor Who fans for being special in many ways. It featured some unique ‘guest’ Daleks seen in Episode Three and Five. The exclusive Jungles of Mechanus Dalek Figure Set, has been created to offer something unique to delight fans and collectors and to pay homage to the unique Daleks seen onscreen. ‘The Chase’ storyline follows The First Doctor and his companions Ian, Barbara and Vicky who are forced to flee through time in the TARDIS after they learn that a group of Daleks, with their own Time Ship are following them with orders to exterminate!

An epic chase through space and time ensues, starting on the Planet Aridius and then continuing through locations including the Empire State Building, the ‘Marie Celeste’ ship, and even an old haunted house populated by classic horror characters. Heading to a final confrontation, the TARDIS lands on the Planet Mechanus, where the Daleks arrive shortly afterwards. Pursued by multiple Dalek patrols through the dense and aggressive Mechanus jungle, the travellers eventually come upon a strange metallic city suspended high in the sky which belongs to an equally evil robot species known as the Mechanoids.

Al Dewar, Character Options’ Head of Product Development, went on to explain why for him it holds a special place in his heart.

“Firstly it’s the final adventure for the last of the original TARDIS companions, Ian and Barbara but it also features the first and last appearance of a race of robotic creatures the Mechanoids”

“Dalek aficionados will also know that it marks the appearance of some rather special ‘guest’ Dalek props that were seen in Episodes 3 and 5. At the time of filming the BBC were short of Dalek props having only three left. New Daleks were commissioned, but to fill the gap, they hired three Dalek props from the ‘Doctor Who and The Daleks’ movie.

“These ‘guest’ Daleks were chosen because they had sucker arms which matched the Daleks from the BBC series and two are seen in altered form, with their deep skirt bases and light covers removed. The second and more exciting appearances however, are two unaltered props glimpsed several times as part of the Dalek patrols pursuing the TARDIS crew through the Jungle.

“As fans will know, we’ve introduced the Dalek Twin pack sets starting with ‘The Daleks’ and ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ this year which begin to chart the chronological TV appearances of the Doctors greatest and oldest enemies. So, it was a fitting next step therefore to announce a new and unique Dalek Two figure Set which neatly dovetails into that series.

“It is these special ‘guest’ Daleks that we present here in our new Online Exclusive. With their distinctively different light covers and skirt bases along with unique metallic colours, this set brings the fans and collectors a one-off unique TV Dalek Action Figure never produced before.”

I haven’t received mine yet, but it had to ship to the US.

I’ve been keeping my eye on the stock at WhoNA. They’re down to 4 left now. If it gets really low, I’ll order one and if I get my order from CO, I’ll have two sets. And if I don’t get mine from CO, I’ll at least have gotten 1 set.

    • Anonymous

      September 14th, 2020 - 8:57pm

If you’re in the UK that’s probably frustrating, if you’re in US just relax. COVID-19 is delaying shipping times, I’d be surprised it even arrived anytime before this Wednesday. You should have just ordered 2 from CO, since it didn’t change the shipping price. CO’s shipping is extremely reliable, they managed to get my 13th Doctor 10″ figure to me literally days after dispatch despite being in the middle of that UK heat-wave back in 2018 where they closed offices it got so bad. So just sit back, relax and throw up some clips of “The Chase” while you wait. 🙂

    • David Minter

      September 15th, 2020 - 12:51am

Didn’t get it today. WhoNA is down to 2 in stock. So, I’m just going to get a 2nd set. 🙂 These are good enough to have a set of 2. Plus, I can open one and keep one MIB. I’d rather pay extra and get a guaranteed set than miss out entirely. WhoNA ships the next day and they have trackable shipping. Plus, since I’m tri-state adjacent to WhoNA’s home state, I will receive it in about 3 days. Most of my WhoNA shipments, like the 2 History Of The Daleks sets, arrived within 3 days.

With the low number added- 100-150, makes it sound that they really are on their last stock.

As people mentioned above, there may have been cancelled orders, backlog of those process on site.

Either way, hopefully we can sell these out this week. Even if it takes until the end of Sept to move the last set, this will still be a resounding success.

I am really glad this set has sold so well for CO. This should encourage them to make more online exclusive sets, which is always good news.

Still waiting for my order, though. 🙂 But, it hasn’t been 14 business days yet.

I have some ideas for sets CO could do. Two Five Doctors sets. One would be the Five Doctors, which would use pre-existing molds of the Doctors. The other being an Enemies Of The Five Doctors set. Of course, it would have to have the Dalek, which would require just a little retooling to get the proper lights on the dome and the “speaker” between the arms. This would bring a release of all Dalek variants to coming pretty close to complete. All that’s left, I think, are the compass detector arm from The Chase and the mutant scoop and shocker thingie from The Power Of The Daleks.

Those last two could be released in a History Of The Daleks: The Power Of The Daleks set. In fact, they could do two of those, too. The 2nd set being a Dalek with its gun missing, which would be easy to do as they did it with the Toys R Us Genesis Of The Daleks and 4th Doctor twin pack, and a Dalek with its gun installed.

    • David Minter

      September 13th, 2020 - 8:59pm

Oops, I left out something about the Enemies Of The Five Doctors Set idea. In addition to the Dalek, it could include 2 Cybermen, one Cyberman and one Cyber Leader. It would reuse the Earthshock mold and just have to paint the “ears” of one black.

I think it is safe to say that this set was an absolute Success, I have a feeling that the next few years are going to be very exiting for Doctor Who action figures.

I did forget one type of Dalek that CO hasn’t released to make their variants set complete. What’s called by Eaglemoss as the Electrode Unit Dalek from The Chase. The one with the radar dish in place of its sucker arm.

  • Voldermort

    September 13th, 2020 - 5:24pm

There is less than 190 available. Considering when this was announced and given it’s only been less than a month, 5000 available to start with, this has been an unqualified success.

I think this certainly garuntees many future sets.

I was going to get these… but seeing as I cannot find the first two ‘History Of’ B&M sets anywhere near to me and without paying the inflated Ebay scalper prices, then I’ll give the whole collection a miss. Shame. Character should have made the History sets available on line too.. or ensure every store had some stock, however small.

The History of the Daleks sets are financed in part by B&Ms, I’m afraid the only way to get them other than the shops is to buy them online. I personally would not pass up the Jungles of Mechanus set, because once they are gone, they are gone.

    • AJ

      September 13th, 2020 - 2:27pm

That’s a bizarre thing to say. These don’t have to be purchased as part of any larger collection of figures. If you like them, get them. Don’t understand that at all!

    • John

      September 13th, 2020 - 4:39pm

Why is it bizarre?? Each to their own obviously. Some people are quite happy with random sets and that’s fine. I’m a completion and there’s potentially the opportunity to have every version of every on screen Dalek there’s been, if they carry on releasing them – but I hate these limited release products that result in travelling half way around the country to find, or giving in to people on Ebay that don’t give a damn and want to extract even more money from fans. I was a member of the Harrop club and started right from the beginning with every figure, fully committed.. then a few years in, they release a special that is only available at the Festival in 2015, not online. Again, no way to purchase unless you pay the ridiculous ebay scalper price – so, collection incomplete… subsequently sold them all and never bothered with them again. As I say, each to their own, but it’s not bizarre as you like to call it.

    • Gary H.

      September 14th, 2020 - 11:19am

      Yes A J,
Alot it collectors are completionists. If they realise they can’t complete a certain set they won’t bother collecting them at all.
      Happens all the time.
