Doctor Who: Darkstar Academy Audio CD

Doctor Who: Darkstar Academy (11th Doctor Audio Exclusive)
Read by Alexander Armstrong

This March, the Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory face danger at an unusual public school in AudioGO’s brand new, exclusive audio adventure Darkstar Academy. Specially written by Mark Morris, it sees the time-travellers dealing with armed prefects, carnivorous crustaceans and something very strange in the cargo bay. Cargo bay…?

It is read by Alexander Armstrong, who played Reg Arwell in the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas special The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe.

When the TARDIS is buffeted by ‘time slippage’, the Doctor experiences a terrible vision of the end of everything. Tracking the source of the disruption, he takes Rory and Amy to what appears to be an English public school in the 1950s.

But as the friends are about to discover, there are some very unusual things about Darkstar Academy. For a start the prefects carry guns, and then there is the strange forcefield that surrounds the perimeter. Not to mention the foot-long, crab-like creatures with spiny, armoured bodies…

When the Doctor learns the truth about the Academy, he also discovers that the whole place is in terrible danger. But with a swarm of creatures on the loose, what can he, Amy and Rory do to help prevent a terrible disaster?

Due for release on 08 March 2012.

“Only time will tell”- Darkstar Academy review. (Part 1)
A less than brilliant audiobook but still one for the keen adventurer.
The story sees the Doctor, Amy and Rory head to a 1950’s school after the Doctor has a terrifying vision of the end of everything when some “time slippage” hits the TARDIS. The story isn’t really that strong and is quite weak in places. Once you hear the words Cargo Bay you pretty much know what’s coming. I won’t spoil it though!

      Part 2:

Alexander Armstrong does a very good job at voicing the characters (his Rory voice is spot on) although for some reason he lacks Amy’s Scottish accent.
For me though, the highlight for me was the music by Simon Hunt I never normally pay much attention to it, but the score in this was great. Very reminiscent of Murray Gold’s score for The Doctor’s Wife.
Overall this audiobook gets a 5/10 from me!

Ordered it yesterday! Hope it comes soon! Like I did with The Art of Death (back when I was The Wooden Prince) I’ll give my thoughts on it once I’ve listened to it.
Fingers crossed it comes Monday! 😀 So excited for this one!

I am dissapointed with the designer of this! Amy has the tally marks on her arm! So unless this has something to do with the silence then I feel a bit annoyed with this! Oh well sounds amazing!

Maybe it takes place in between those episodes, wait, no it doesn’t, the costume of the Doctor is too different.

Eh, doesn’t matter anyway, the story doesn’t seem to tie into the TV stories and it isn’t even narrated by Matt Smith so I will pass. 😡

I can’t imagine listening to a Dr Who story, where the 11th Doctor is played without Matt Smith’s voice work !

There have only been three stories with him so far, two of which I’m getting, and they take place during Series 5. 😉

Wish they’d make a few more with Matt Smith. 🙁
