In this new calendar, I’ve brought together a cosmic cornucopia of my professional Doctor Who art, some from long ago, some more recent, spanning a good part of my career to date, with a smattering of private commissions from the good folk who are inspired by my art.

A few are published for the first time. Here you will find images mainly from the ‘classic’ Doctor Who era interspersed with a number from the new series. When allowed to, I’ve always tried to push the boundaries of this genre art and I’ve a reputation for capturing the likenesses of the actors while not being slavishly photorealistic.

These are all created traditionally with no digital enhancement. Most are painted in acrylics on smooth art board, a few earlier pieces in gouache and nearly always to deadlines. This is my first calendar for many a year and is sure to become a collector’s item. I hope even those who might not count themselves as a Doctor Who fan, may enjoy the images. I hope so.

The Paintings

January has to feature the Tardis and the First Doctor who started the TV legend. This artwork is from the cover for my art book, Blacklight.

February features the ruthless Daleks inspired by the classic Evil of the Daleks story.

March introduces the Ninth Doctor and Rose in a graphic montage.

April shows off the mighty Rubycon painting, featuring the 1st and the 6th, 7th and 8th Doctors, conceived as a sequel to the Radio Times The Five Doctors cover.

May reveals the Zygons, lurching through the eerie mists of their home planet.

June features the Third Doctor and the original Master with a touch of gold, as painted for the Claws of Axos BBC video cover.

July takes no prisoners as the Cyber Controller from the new series catches you in ‘his’ glare.

August sees the Fifth Doctor in a contemplative mood.

September features the calendar cover image, the Tenth Doctor and Rose in a sophisticated, hi-tech graphic montage together with the glowering presence of a Cyberman and a time warped Tardis.

October stars the hugely popular Fourth Doctor and the degenerated Master from my popular BBC video cover, The Deadly Assassin.

November sports a menagerie of monsters from the programme’s history as originally featured on my book cover for The Monsters book which I also illustrated.

December reproduces my classic The Five Doctors cover for The Radio Times, possibly the highest selling UK magazine at the time, 1983, with a circulation of millions. It was a great honour to get this gig and attend the Radio Times cover party at the BBC!

callendar2011AndaddUseful Words About Calendars

RedBubble calendars are printed using marvellous futuristic technologies, so complex we can’t go into them here, but we can tell you they are lovingly printed on a luscious 200gsm satin art paper at the striking size of A3 (that’s 297x420mm, or 11.69×16.54″).

They also have very handy wire binding so you can hang them from things like ‘hooks’ on exciting places like ‘walls’.

You can select your own start month, and order right into the future. Everything about them is brilliant, except you’ll have no excuse for missing your sister’s birthday anymore.

 Wooh, I am quite amazed. I do already own a Dr Who calender, but its a desk-calender and you cant really use it to mark each day individually, so its only really a decorative item.

I am aware of Andrew Skilleteer, and have seen amny times the brilliant works of his talent, on ebay. There have been portraits of the actors face, which look incredibley authentic. I didnt even know THEY werent real images until I took closer examination, so heres to you, Skilleteer o’the hour.
