July 25th, 2022 - 1:50amFor people who just want Blu-rays of the new 4k remasters, they’re on Amazon Germany (the versions with the new cover art). From the Marketplace sellers at the mo you can get each film for under a tenner (including delivery to the UK). They have English, German and French language options so shouldn’t have any foreign-language-only restrictions.

July 20th, 2022 - 5:44pmThere’s an Amazon review stating that Philip Madoc’s line about cutting Doctor Who’s throat is missing, and he just mouths the words silently. Can anyone else confirm this please? The review gets other things slightly wrong, but I remember the line from my VHS because it’s a bit strong for a kids’ film. (I’m thinking it might have been cut from the cinema release, for the desired rating, but made its way out on later printings.)

July 20th, 2022 - 10:03pmI’m going back on this, I think I “remember” dialogue that wasn’t there, a child’s imagination filling the gaps. There was a similar line in the David Lean Great Expectations which was a bit grizzly for a supposed family time slot, and I’m thinking the memories merged. Anyone else have (false) memories of the line?

As an adult back in the 1983 I watched this on a BBC channel as part of Classic Sci fi films that ran on Tuesday evenings and saw it again on a Saturday morning in 1985. Clearly I remember Philip Madoc’s character saying this line “i’ll slit his throat”. I thought at the time, wow they wouldn’t use dialogue like this now as they did in the 1960s especially for a Kids movie. That stuck in my mind. I guess somewhere down the years, the powers that be omitted this. Interesting stuff.

July 11th, 2022 - 11:29amIt’s not so much about the resolution as much as it is the quality of the new restoration. The old blu-rays were done from scans of the interpositive prints, whereas these new ones are done from the original techniscope negatives, so are significantly higher quality in terms of clarity and colour, not just resolution, well worth the upgrade even if you just get the standard blu-ray of this restoration.

But at least this means I can finally stop hunting down the original Steelbook release.
There’s no mention of a coin in the details, is that included? I first thought it was for scale for some reason but it’s non-standard and there is detail on it.
