Doctor Who Magazine Bookazine UNIT Declassified

Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com

The soldiers of UNIT have been defending the Earth from alien aggressors since the black-and-white era of Doctor Who. This lavish bookazine traces the history of the secret organisation, from the Cyberman invasion of London to the epic spin-off series The War Between the Land and the Sea.

“We’ve never done a bookazine about UNIT before,” says editor Marcus Hearn. “Now the Taskforce is finally getting the standalone series it always deserved, we decided this was the perfect time to celebrate a tour of duty that began way back with Patrick Troughton’s Doctor.”

The 116-page publication features new interviews, insightful commentary and some extraordinary behind-the-scenes images that have never been seen before.

Highlights include:

  • Pete McTighe, the co-writer of The War Between of the Land and the Sea, previews the new series.
  • Chris Chibnall, Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat on UNIT’s 21st-century adventures.
  • A rarely-seen interview with Brigadier actor Nicholas Courtney, conducted in 1984.
  • Exclusive new interviews with UNIT personnel, including Angela Bruce (Brigadier Bambera), Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Fernanda Marlowe (Corporal Bell) and former EastEnders regular Derek Martin.
  • Eyewitness accounts of the 1973 location shoot for legendary UNIT story The Green Death.
  • Irene Walls, make-up artist on the 1970 and 71 seasons, remembers working with Jon Pertwee and the UNIT regulars.
  • Previously unpublished images from the location filming of The Android Invasion in 1975.
  • A look at director Douglas Camfield’s meticulous preparations for the first UNIT story, The Invasion.
  • Infographics on UNIT insignia and the thorny issue of exactly when the classic UNIT stories are set.
  • Guides to UNIT vehicles, some of the most important battles, the expanded universe and much more!

Doctor Who: UNIT Declassified will be available at panini.co.uk and good news retailers from Thursday 4 December, price £12.99. It will also be available digitally from pocketmags.com price £11.99.

Having worked for WH..bookzazines are always hot and miss on qty of titles. Allocate stock go by previous issues and similar titles. If store doesn’t sell much Doctor Who Mag and previous who bookazines haven’t sold well there maybe a standard delivery of 5 copies.
(Bookazines always packed in qty of 5).

Delivery dates vary also. Bookazines don’t come with magazine delivery. They come with general book/stat delivery. So depending on the stores delivery days depends on when it may come in.

As it’s £12.99 rather then the £19.99 like the Dalek and Cyberman releases, assume it won’t be in a slipcase.

Have the chronicles magazines drawn to a close ? Waiting for another Troughton or Hartnell edition or the Key to Time year….

No I think they have said there are more planned but they seem to be at a rough rate of one per year now. Wondering if we might get 1984 to tie in with the (heavily rumoured) Season 21 BluRay Collection box in the Spring – like they effectively seemed to tie the 1970 Chronicle in with the release of the Season 7 box…

I am assuming this will not be part of any subscription at £12.99 so have pre ordered from Panini.
They have a limited edition cover online.
Looks a great magazine, although to be fair I’ve always like U.N.I.T.

Unlikely this will be £19.99 – those are the 200+ page plus and come with the slipcases – and this one is something like their normal 128 pages. I’d reckon £1299 or so.
