First look at Character’s 3.75″ Ice Warrior Figure

Character Options 3.75″ Ice Warrior Figure

First look at the new 3.75 Inch Ice Warrior figure from Character Options.

Character options is launching a new range of 3.75-inch Doctor Who figures to celebrate to the 50th anniversary show, and Sfx has your first look at the new, upcoming Ice Warrior figure.

This figure is due to be released next month in the new 3.75 Inch scale.

“After huge popular demand from fans, 2013 will see the launch of a range of new series 3¾ inch figures and playsets. The new collection will succeed the incredibly successful 5-inch figures portraying both characters and storylines from the new series including The Eleventh Doctor, his new companion Clara as well as many of the foes he has met over the past 50 years,” says Character Options Brand Manager Mark Hunt.

ice-warrior-size

He adds: “We also have some very special 50th Anniversary product for later in the year… but that is top secret!”

Describing why Character Options has begun the new range with its new size, Hunt says, “This is the 50th anniversary year of Doctor Who and we wanted to create something that was new for the brand and refresh our product offering, and create some demand amongst both avid collectors, fans and children. Our market research showed that many children today are collecting smaller figures and boys action figures across the market are moving to this size.

“The new size also allows us to bring a more affordable price point that we would not be able to at this time with a 5-inch figure. This again is reacting to the market conditions and makes the figures more accessible to more fans. Again in such a special year it was important that we cater for as many as possible.”

These highly detailed, realistic and poseable 3.75 action figures include characters from Doctor Who series seven including Daleks, Weeping Angels, Cybermen armies, and, of course, the Ice Warriors!

So we have spend all that money buying figures in the 5 inch range and they stop that and introduce and 3.5 inch range so we have to start all over again
    RIP 5-INCH

I think everyone is expecting far too much from a toy that isn’t even 4 inch. I don’t see how you can expect this to open up and reveal a creature inside. I think the best they’ll be able to do is a swappable head. You need to remember that having the armour open up would be very costly for Character Options, never mind a new creature inside. Aside from the fact that we didn’t see the full creature anyway. I certainly love the look of this figure and I don’t think that it needs to do anything like open up. A swappable helmet would be nice.

Is it going to have the creature inside? after a careful thought I don’t think so because we did not see all of it and we do not know what it’s like all we saw was it’s long claws and it’s head

No it wasn’t, Josh Smith. It is because no shops were prepared to have more shelf – warmers like The Eleventh Doctor in Stetson and Uncle. As I’m sure were all aware, shelf – warmers are not good news as I’m sure mass market retailers like Toys R Us and Smyths are aware of.

I think that the figures realesed in 3.75 inches will be….

    The Doctor in Purple Coat
Clara (Rings of Akhaten) with Bag and Leaf.
    Ice Warrior (of course)
Ice Warrior out of its shell.
    Emma Grayling

I don’t think journey to the centre if the tardis will have any releases, except the Int. Tardis console.

    Crimson Horror:
Patanoster Gang (Strax, Jenny, Vastra with a snowman from the snowmen.)

    Nightmare in Silver:
    Porridge
    Cyberman
    Cyberman and Clara set.
    Themepark diarama

    Finale-

Whispermen (x2 or just the one)
    River Song

The Valeyard will probably be a time paradox.I reckon he won’t be in the tv series, I think this will be resolved by a big finish audio.

    • Anonymous

      April 15th, 2013 - 4:44pm

I don’t think we will get a final doctor with the 13th doc, the BBC knows it is their most successful show, they may do something to explain how he lives longer, or just like the master and people will accept he lives longer than normal.

      April 17th, 2013 - 9:10pm

      Time can be rewritten…
The valeyard could be written out of exsistence and replaced by a nicer incarnation and maybe the doctor could manage to rewrite how many lives he has?

    • Kroton

      April 17th, 2013 - 9:27pm

The master was on his last incarnation in the dr who movie, then appeared in series 3, so he can survive, and he may live longer as the universe lets him or something like that. Also isn’t 13 the average number, so he could last longer!

    • Kroton

      April 17th, 2013 - 9:29pm

And the doctor has regenerated more times anyway, like when 10 regenerated back into 10.

  • Doctor Stu

    April 14th, 2013 - 9:22pm

I’m sorry but with the 5inch figure we would see the individual scales on the mouth and it would look perfect yet on this one the mouth looks like it is made of plasticine and the hands look like they aren’t capable of holding anything. Hopefully when Matt Smith becomes considered as a classic Doctor some things that we didn’t get from series 6 will be released like a 5″ Handbot, Minotaur, kovarian, headless monk etc.

    • Doctor Stu

      April 14th, 2013 - 10:59pm

Thank you, I’ll probably buy them just to start a separate series 7 collection beside the 5 inch one. I’ll have to check the quality of them first because when I am in forbidden planet I pass the Star Wars 3.75″ figures and no offence to any Star Wars collectors but they look awful and don’t remotely resemble the character displayed on the packaging. I just hope Doctor Who doesn’t turn out like this.

I won’t be buying them either. The problem isn’t that they have the wrong scale (what kid in their right mind thinks “Wow, I wish this Cyberman was was smaller than The Doctor, if only they’d change the scale!”?), it’s that they didn’t release anything interesting. Idris, yay I guess? Second wave Idris with 2 cubes, I’m supposed to buy it again just to get the cubes? Third wave Idris with 6 cubes, seriously!? It’s not just me: Many collectors have openly said they’ll avoid buying new figures until they’re old in case of superior re-releases.

I don’t mind anyway because i only get the classic series range. But i was going to get the new ice warrior figure but now ive seen the detail i am disappointed. The classic warrior clearly has more detail because of the size of the figure. I read some people saying that the tardis for the new size figures is more detailed, that’s because the detail isn’t hard to put on to a blue police box, whilst with the ice warrior there are the scales and the cracks between them to deal with and everything shrinks down. They just aren’t great.

What more can you want, it’s a toy, not a model, the idea is kids play with them. There isn’t much more detail this can have, and at least the new figures are cheaper and don’t have strange articulation, like other brands, where the arms stick out and the heads are tiny!

The point is we buy them if they look good and look cool. But these on’t look good and many people won’t buy them.

but many people will buy them that didn’t buy the 5″ figures as these have play-sets and are compatible with other figures.

you missing the point, the new series 5″ line is dead and gone, no new figures just releases and variants where possible

this is a new line aimed at a different playability and compatibility toy market, i dont think it was intended as a replacement.

I’ve just realised that Skaldaks voice sounds almost identical to the Lazarus creature from The Lazaruse Experiment.

It reminded me of Scott McNeil as Dinobot from Beast Wars Transformers.
