First look at Character’s 3.75″ Ice Warrior Figure

Character Options 3.75″ Ice Warrior Figure

First look at the new 3.75 Inch Ice Warrior figure from Character Options.

Character options is launching a new range of 3.75-inch Doctor Who figures to celebrate to the 50th anniversary show, and Sfx has your first look at the new, upcoming Ice Warrior figure.

This figure is due to be released next month in the new 3.75 Inch scale.

“After huge popular demand from fans, 2013 will see the launch of a range of new series 3¾ inch figures and playsets. The new collection will succeed the incredibly successful 5-inch figures portraying both characters and storylines from the new series including The Eleventh Doctor, his new companion Clara as well as many of the foes he has met over the past 50 years,” says Character Options Brand Manager Mark Hunt.

He adds: “We also have some very special 50th Anniversary product for later in the year… but that is top secret!”

Describing why Character Options has begun the new range with its new size, Hunt says, “This is the 50th anniversary year of Doctor Who and we wanted to create something that was new for the brand and refresh our product offering, and create some demand amongst both avid collectors, fans and children. Our market research showed that many children today are collecting smaller figures and boys action figures across the market are moving to this size.

“The new size also allows us to bring a more affordable price point that we would not be able to at this time with a 5-inch figure. This again is reacting to the market conditions and makes the figures more accessible to more fans. Again in such a special year it was important that we cater for as many as possible.”

These highly detailed, realistic and poseable 3.75 action figures include characters from Doctor Who series seven including Daleks, Weeping Angels, Cybermen armies, and, of course, the Ice Warriors!

I along with a few other collectors I know are so happy to see Character Options releasing these figures in the 3.75″ scale. I have quite a few of the Dapol figures and am really looking forward to adding this whole new Doctor Who line to my collection alongside Star Wars, GI Joe, Marvel Universe etc…

Everyone seems to forget we have dioramas coming to go with these!

We are as disappointed as anyone they are not 5″ as we are collectors as well but i do know and understand the reasons behind this new direction.

I will probably only buy figures for the Cybermen, Dalek, Weeping angle and Ice warrior.

I didn’t like the idea of changing to smaller size anyway (but I am a collector of 5 inch figures so it makes sence) but thought I would give them a chance, after all, it understandable why they did it. To fit in with other ranges and as the yare smaller, from a far it would look more detailed! Saw the Clara figure, looked ok, then I saw the ice warrior… it looks horrible! the scaling is all wrong, so little detail, lazily detailed. I bet if it was a 5 inch it would have been fine! No, don’t like the look of the ice warrior at all.

I would agree that they dont look as detailed – but your average “toy” buyer wont care as long as they have playability factor (especially with the play-sets) (worth pointing out the picture you are probably looking at is bigger than the figure – never good idea), that’s what these are all about. This is not the 5″ range, that’s gone, These are toys at the end of the day.

Ugh! I don’t like this. I know this is only a promotional shot, but I still don’t like it. Along with the fact that it is a different scale from what we’ve been collecting the past 7 years.

Apparently, this scale change was by popular demand of fans. I can’t ever recall hearing someone say “Gee, I wish the figures were smaller.”

Hunt says that CO want to cater for as many as possible. so why change the regime after 7 years? And on the 50th Anniversary year too. 🙁

I wouldn’t complain if it were in scale with the Classics.

Yeah, I’m sure no fan ever said “Please shrink down your 5inch figures”.

I know I would never ask Character Options to do that.

    • booboo

      April 13th, 2013 - 9:19pm

The 5″ line was dead, retailers had lost interest, to them it was an old news, do you seriously think CO are going to discontinue a profitable line.

They have changed the scale to generate new interest and for the line to move forward for the upcoming next generation of fans and given them something to play with.

core collectors of the 5″ figures dont like change, fact is these are toys and the core collector market is not big enough to sustain the 5″ range, retailers want new and diffident products to keep the line fresh otherwise they wont order.

    • DOCTOR WHO ONE

      April 13th, 2013 - 8:56pm

Time will tell if the new 3.75 range will kill off production of the new series range of Doctor Who action figures which have been made by Character Options since 2005.

What I don’t get is, if the new series range is shrinking down to this 3.75 scale, then why is the classic series figure range doing the same way ?.

    • booboo

      April 13th, 2013 - 9:10pm

Because the classics have a core collectors market and Underground toys and FP behind them.

Character make toys for the mass market and there is no mass market for 5″ figures anymore

    • DOCTOR WHO ONE

      April 13th, 2013 - 8:58pm

I wish Character Option’s would give us a good answer to that question, cos saying something like “Oh, the fan’s want the figures to be in that scale so they can have play fights alongside Hasbro’s Star Wars figures” or some other silly excuse to shrink them down but leave the classics as they are.
