Character Options 2017 Doctor Who product Line to be seen first at London Toy Fair

Character Options is proud to unveil a range of new Doctor Who figures and accessories for 2017. The new collection will be available from mid spring and is to be seen for the first time at London Toy Fair on Tuesday 24th January 2017.

Heading up the range is a number of articulated figures that will be perfect for collectors. Set in the classic 5.5 inch scaling each perfectly replicates some of the favourite characters, past and present, from the show.

The Tenth Doctor in Tuxedo, available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk, is packed in collectors packaging and not only comes with a figure and a Sonic Screwdriver but for fans is one of the most requested alternate outfits; perfect to recreate scenes from “Rise of Cybermen” and “Voyage of the Damned!”

Added to this is the favoured Tenth Doctor’s Sonic with lights and sounds. For those that did not collect it first time round now’s the time to add to your collection.

Fans of the Tenth Doctor will also be keen to get their hands on The Ninth and Tenth Doctor’s TARDIS Playset. With its motorised time rotor and pulsating lights this is the ultimate playset and has an illuminated console with six control buttons, removable floor panels and flip up console panel.

Another Figure in the series is the Twelfth Doctor, as played by Peter Capaldi, in his Ninth Season hoodie and checked trousers outfit. This item also includes a new head sculpt and his brand new Sonic Screwdriver just in time for Season Ten!

For serious collectors needing every variant, there is also the Twelfth Doctor in his Ninth Season Hoodie and Black Jumper outfit, a 5.5 inch figure not to be missed.

Finally, if you are looking for a Cyberman with a difference then make sure you stretch yourself for the new Cyberman 7-inch Stretch toy! Watch with wonder as the Doctors arch enemy is stretched many times his size only to return back to his original shape and size once he is let loose.

      direct email is [email protected]

what they are saying to people is that because they don’t have the items yet they cannot give an exact cost because the don’t have the size/weight until they arrive

they are saying roughly £16.00-£20.00 GBP for 3 figures

if you order they will send you an exact quote before despatch and taking payment

Shipping to the US for this is £38.00.
It brings the total cost for this to £87.99
Considering they sell the original one for $300 plus here in the States this is still a good price.

I can’t believe we haven’t yet get a 5″ Clara figure wearing her now trademark tartan skirt, bow-tie top and black ankle boots with the little gold details!
This is one of the more iconic Clara outfits which is a little underwhelming in the tiny 3.5″ figure and even the forthcoming Big Chief Clara hasn’t got that outfit although she looks cool too.
The Clara figure in the red dress is nice but it isn’t actually Clara its Oswin and the Clara in the purple outfit is a lazy repaint of the Oswin figure.

I don’t know what’s going on with this latest wave of figures and merchandise, but I’m loving it.

Wider availability (nice to see an old stalwart like Galaxy 4 being given the chance to stock figures again), lower prices,,, it’s almost like the good old days. I missed the console room set first time round, and at 9.99 each I can justify buying both 12th and the 10th Tux figures as well.

If “collector” is the way they’re going to continue with the figures, then it makes sense to make them available to as many collector outlets as possible, i.e.specialist retailers like both the FPs and G4. Toys R Us U.K. clearly have little concern for the collector’s market and trying to obtain figures through them over the last few years has been frustrating to say the least (Dalek twin packs/NOTD 8th/13 Doctors set). And Underground;s treatment of the U.K. customers has been inexcusably shoddy, with the marketing and availability of the 13 Doctors set being the last straw.

It’s probably just the Funko acquisition, but I’d love to believe that someone from BBC branding and licensing was keeping tabs on the situation and gave UT and CO a stiff talking to. Probably not, but if UT never come back in as partners that’s fine by me, especially as their absence seems to have resulted in prices on the figures being reduced by a full third. And I have to say, it’s nice to have a situation where we appear to be getting these figures BEFORE the U.S. market for a change.

I hear where you are coming from, but UT have never had anything to do with the UK distribution to be honest, their USA division were the licensed distributors for the USA market only.

Thus far the UK has been very undeserved with the 13 Doctor set, we still don’t know if FP are getting any allocation which they seemed to be at one stage

This situation seems to have arisen because UT USA didn’t want to commit to these new figures for whatever reason

They are telling retailers more stuff in coming in the second half of the year though.

    • Mad Psientist

      January 26th, 2017 - 2:45pm

Ah well, I just don’t know what’s going on with the range nowadays. Is it CO themselves that are causing the problems? Because as the primary, U.K. – based licensee that’s even worse.

I had just assumed at this point that FPI weren’t going to get the set at all. I had the opportunity to get it when it was on the TRU website a couple of times but I decided against it in the end. But I know there were people on this site and elsewhere upset and frustrated because they either couldn’t get on the site or couldn’t afford it at the brief times it was available. If TRU at least offered a pre – order option it would have helped.

The way this latest wave is apparently being released just feels a lot fairer. I don’t mind the overseas markets getting releases at the same time as the U.K., but getting them months ahead of us isn’t justifiable and it’s bound to cause resentment, particularly if they’re so difficult to get hold of when they DO eventually arrive.

    • booboo

      January 26th, 2017 - 3:37pm

The main problem is getting enough UK retailers to order them

    • Ian

      January 27th, 2017 - 10:56pm

I think the BBC do not pay enough attention to what is going on with the range. A lot feel that once the BBC get the money for the licence they don’t care. They have to agree with whatever CO make but when they allow figure that are poor likeliness of the actors is beyond me,

Back when i was a young pre-teen, i always used to look forward to new waves of figures coming out, seeing all the different characters that were available.

Now however at 24, i feel like the production value has simply disappeared. Getting a tenth doctor figure variant ten years too late.

Thats just my own opinion, but for me, ill just look forward to the new series… cus with the merchandise, i hate to say it, but: I am done.

Does this also signal the end of the ‘Classic’ Doctor Who line? I would hope not. Personally I love the Doctor Who figures – though I have very few of them as my local Forbidden Planet only seems to stock and army of Amy Ponds.

Is there any chance that the ‘Classic’ Doctors would be updated to feature ball jointed shoulder joints?

Considering Capaldi is getting an oceans worth of variants I don’t see why they can’t do the same for the other Doctors, even if that just means pre-existing figures with new POA. I for one would love to see a grey haired Second Doctor in his shirt sleeves from ‘The Two Doctors’. Or an aged Fifth Doctor from ‘Time Crash’.

I suppose there would be little chance some characters from the audio dramas and the comics at some point?

They should also, definitely, consider a ‘classic’ Doctor’s TARDIS!

Also, perhaps an esoteric choice, but a Peter Capaldi Doctor? Or even some Daleks from those films?

But yeah, It is sad, I mean, I still live in hope that one day, CO will release the ‘Wheel in Space’ Cyberman variant, but seeing as we still haven’t got the 2013 version, it makes that just a pipe dream.

A thought just occurred to me. Character could easily make an actuate Series 10 Twelfth Doctor using the Hoodie sculpt. If you look at the trailer, the scene when the Doctor and Bill are standing in the room with all the Vaults with the yellow lights, the Doctor is wearing an outfit that could easily be made via repainting the shirt on the Hoodie figure to be a very dark Grey/Black with a slight red collar, painting the Hoodie a light brown and the Jacket a very solid Black.

Forbidden Planet in NYC doesn’t have anything like is show here, not even for pre-order. Forbidden Planet UK doesn’t sell or ship out of the UK.
I really, really like the face on this version of 12 better than any I’ve seen so far.
I hope I can find one of these 12’s soon.
Unfortunately, my tablet didn’t load the stretch Cyberman, those sound kinda fun.

These seem to be general release in the UK so some retailers will probably ship overseas hopefully with reasonable postage costs

Honestly, I wish they would re-release the Wave 4 “Heritage Line” Tenth Doctor Screwdriver. Between redesigns for both the end cap for the slider and the bottom of the screwdriver itself AND the blue LED, it was undoubtedly the most worthwhile version of the screwdriver, since both the pen nibs and the slider cap fell off super easily.
