Character Building Super Rare’s Series 1

Character Building – The Hunt Is On

The hunt is on for rare and super rare Doctor Who construction figures Character Options, maker of the new Character Building Doctor Who construction toy range has confirmed rumour that special rare and super rare figures have been included in the first wave of micro-figures that hit stores last week.

Character Building’s Doctor Who construction micro-figures launched at Easter, simultaneously with the new series. The Series 1 micro-figures was initially thought to have just ten different detailed characters including The Doctor, Amy Pond and many of his most feared foes. However, in an intriguing twist, befitting of the Time Lord, it has now been revealed that five additional figures have been included in the series, and so few have been produced they can truly considered to be Super Rare!

What to look out for…

Out of millions of figures available, there are just 1 in every 1000 of the Projected Weeping Angel and the Raggedy Doctor as he appeared in his Series 5 Episode 1. But most sought after all will be Amy Pond in a Green Coat, the mysterious Silurian Alaya and The Eleventh Doctor in his Kings Arms Football Kit with only 1 in every 5000 being these highly collectable pieces.

Mark Hunt, Character Options, product manager commented: “Word is being put out on the net that these figures are in the bags, and keen collectors are eagerly seeking them. Where they will turn up is a complete lottery but it has certainly created a frenzy amongst the fans!”

The certificate you will get with a super rare…

regretfully no – we just didn’t have the time or capacity to handle it, this is a very large site now ( we are having to upgraded our server to something much more expensive) but it is essentially run by just 2 people in their spare time who do everything you see here, pictures, photos, articles, all the special features games etc and it was just to much.

      just gobsmacked about it,
the boys were bought a couple of packs as a treat for a good week at school and there it was along side a cyberman and another weeping angel screamer and a blue dalek
seems strange that something so small would fetch that sort of money

CO need to backpeddle on these super rare figures… it’s too dissapointing to know you’ll never get them. Even those prepared to sit on eBay and pay whatever they have to to get these, may be waiting years to get a full set.

CO should release these as uncommons in a future wave. For those who are lucky enough to get a super rare now, they should be allowed to redeem the authenticity certificate for a special prize instead, such as a full box of new wave figures, and/or playsets for the really rares.

That way everyone would be happy.

I emailed CO on 10 May and their reply is in my post further down. They ignored my comments about the excessively limited nature of the super-rares. I followed up my complaint shortly after and one of the suggestions I made was to make these figures exclusive previews, as you suggest. I have yet to receive a reply, but if enough people make themselves heard, then CO should address the issue.

I emailed them with what I said above, and got the following response:

“Thank you for your email concerning our new Character Building figures.

It is of course disappointing to learn that you are not happy with the
Super Rare Figures we have produced.

At Character Options we aim to create customer satisfaction with all our
      products.

Your comments will be noted and passed onto the relevant personnel for
any future considerations on this matter.

Once again, please accept my apologies for the upset caused to you in
      this matter…

At least they were polite (and they responded very quickly, their CS is very good). If they get enough emails about this, they may actually consider this, rather than just saying they will…

      Start emailing peeps. :p

Well here is my take on things, although i very rarely get involved in such things. across all forums/fans sites there is not one report of a super rare being found, collectors like us have rapidly come to the conclusion there is no hope of getting one let along being able to complete the collection so its not worth trying. With only 100 of some we may never hear of them being found at all. Therefore once we had all the standard figure we stopped buying, if there were more of a chance, ie lager quantities we might have bought more “just in case”.

    • Mels

      June 2nd, 2011 - 1:23pm

Totally agree, there’s just no incentive, just frustration.
The fact that not one single figure has been reported so far is just… really wrong somehow.

If they were really into rares, CO could have put one in every 5 boxes or so (which frankly, is still too rare in my opinion, but at least makes them possible to find). But really, you shouldn’t *have* to go to eBay to finish a collection…

But currently, you can’t even do that…

I have all of the main set now. If any of the super rare ones appear on eBay I’m sure I’ll bid on them. Also with the super rares the total in the set is 16 without the daily mirror ones
    The ten normal
    Five super rare
White dalek which comes with progenitor play set.

Sorry to disappoint you but it’s 10 people win 1 figure each, not the other way round. My little boy won one and it arrived today (another smiler), he’s distraught because he hoped to find a super rare, even though I’ve explained that it’s tens of thousands to one against. He can’t understand why a toy company would be so cruel to kids. I suppose they see learning to cope with crushing disappointment as a form of Character Building.

When you think about it why are they just doing Silurian Restac in the first wave and not silurian solders and is Aalya that important a character to be rare? I don’t think so.

For both these two facts to be true only 500,000 figures would be available. If there are indeed “millions” of figures out there, the odds of finding…
