The Ianthology continues

An all-star cast joins Gareth David-Lloyd in Torchwood audio drama Missing Molly, released today from Big Finish Productions.

The newest instalment in the Torchwood Monthly Range sees a novice Ianto Jones investigate a cold case near Penarth Pier. In the second of three stories scripted by himself, Gareth David-Lloyd stars as Ianto, the PA-turned-agent he first played in the Torchwood TV series.

Guest starring as Molly, a young woman who went missing over a decade ago, is Gwyneth Keyworth, the award-winning West End actress who listeners might recognise from hit TV shows including Alex Rider, Game of Thrones, and The Sarah Jane Adventures: Lost in Time.

The cast of Missing Molly also includes Nia Roberts (Doctor Who: The Hungry Earth) as Alison, Molly’s mother, and Matthew Gravelle (Broadchurch) as her father Stuart.

Molly went missing from the estate 12 years ago. Ianto remembers it as he lived just round the corner. Only, Molly’s come back. Ianto’s just as interested as her parents in what happened to her.

Director Lisa Bowerman said: “The script from Gareth is so clever because it’s not only a mysterious, ambivalent science fiction story with Torchwood elements, but it’s a deeply human story, which is touching as well as strange, and I think that’s a very clever combination.

“We were very, very lucky to get Gwyneth Keyworth, and I’ve always been a fan of her work. She has to play this character who turns up twelve years after this child goes missing, and she is actually the child – now an adult, but with a nine-year-old’s mentality. And Gwyneth’s managed to put in this incredible performance that is childlike and sweet and convincing, but also not quite right… I thought she was terribly clever and did it brilliantly.”

Missing Molly is the second instalment in a trilogy of Torchwood – Monthly Range releases scripted by David-Lloyd, which explore various points in Ianto Jones’s life. The first, Tube Strike, is also available now, and the third, Disco, will be released in May.
