Big Finish Audio Doctor Who in 2022!

Get ready to jump on board the TARDIS in 2022, as Big Finish Productions announces a raft of brand-new full-cast Doctor Who audio drama box sets due for release throughout the year.

As revealed in Doctor Who Magazine issue 565, there will be a host of Doctor Who adventures from each of the classic series Doctors released from January to December. From anniversary celebrations to brand-new friends and foes, you won’t want to miss a single second of these amazing adventures in time and space.

The list of box sets to be released across 2022 are as follows:

  • Doctor Who: The First Doctor Adventures – Title TBC
  • Doctor Who: The Second Doctor Adventures – Beyond War Games
  • Doctor Who: The Third Doctor Adventures – Title TBC Vol 1 & Vol 2
  • Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures – Series 11 Vol 1 & Series 11 Vol 2
  • Doctor Who: The Fifth Doctor Adventures – Forty Volume 1 & Forty Volume 2
  • Doctor Who: The Sixth Doctor Adventures – Title TBC Vol 1 & Vol 2
  • Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor Adventures – Title TBC Vol 1 & Vol 2
  • Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor Adventures – Title TBC Vol 1 & Vol 2

Exact months of release, further titles, casts and stories are to be announced, with the exception of The Fourth Doctor Adventures and The Fifth Doctor Adventures, which have been previously confirmed.

All the above Doctor Who boxsets are now available to pre-order from just £16.99 per box set, exclusively at www.bigfinish.com.

Plus, dedicated Big Finish listeners can now pre-order a complete bundle of all the above releases for just £274 on collector’s edition CD and £237 on digital download.

Big Finish Creative Director Nicholas Briggs said: “This is a real opening up of our various Doctors’ adventures – they all now have their own individual series, just as it should be! And for those listeners used to purchasing a yearly subscription of our old Monthly Adventures, this new bundle of box sets will give you the opportunity to order the whole year’s stories in one go, while you can also order by specific Doctor. There are some great new adventures on the way too – I’m particularly excited by what we’ll be doing with new First, Second and Third Doctor Adventures, aiming to make take them into brand new territory, while also giving them a fully era-authentic feel.”

Big Finish senior producer David Richardson added: “It’s been so exciting to see all of the plans and ideas that my colleagues have been circulating for this epic launch of the Doctor box sets in 2022. So exciting that the classic Doctors continue to forge ahead in thrilling new directions, and doing so with that fine balancing act of authenticity and originality. I’ve been busy working away on the new beginnings for the Fifth and Eighth Doctors, but I shall be listening with glee to savour what lies in store for the others.

“We all love Doctor Who at Big Finish. How wonderful that its glorious past continues to be assured a bright future!”

All the above Doctor Who boxsets are now available to pre-order from just £16.99 per box set, exclusively from the Big Finish website.

Big Finish listeners can also save more by purchasing a selection of bundles, or by pre-ordering all these releases for £274 on CD and £237 on digital download.

Please note that Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mail-out of collector’s edition CDs and limited edition vinyl LPs may be delayed due to factors beyond our control, but all purchases of these releases unlock digital copies that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.

I think we can glean some clues as to what’ll happen in these new boxsets from what David Richardson said last year when this revamping was first announced:

“Where did the First Doctor and Dodo go next after leaving the planet of The Savages? What happened to the Second Doctor after The War Games? What new adventures await the Third Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith? What happened on the Seventh Doctor’s Last Day?”

Hoping for a return to Lucie stories for the 8th Doctor, or potentially even a bit more Mary Shelley!

I doubt anymore further adventures of Lucie Miller due to the previous one being awful & dull

Am I being a bit thick here but I don’t see any financial insentive to order the bundle as it seems to be the same price as individual. Happy to be corrected if I’m wrong.

The cd bundle is £36 more than the individual releases!

The CD Bundle is only £5.86 cheaper than buying each release separately! I would maybe have priced it a little cheaper myself, maybe it would have better around the £260 mark??

I miss the four part stories myself, the box set stories don’t feel as substantial

We will still be getting 4 part stories. These box sets allow them to have a variety of different story/episode lengths.

I’m baffled why they keep calling this an “opening up” or “offering new opportunities”… it’s just a different way of releasing audio dramas.. there’s nothing inherently possible about boxsets that they couldn’t have done with the monthly releases is there?

      It’s called marketing.

It’s easier for new fans to audio to pick up these boxsets

I think the reason why they’ve decided to make the jump to boxsets is that they wanted to become more accessible to new listeners while also pleasing regulars.

Evidence of some of the Monthly Adventures shortcomings can be seen with the “The Forge” story arc: there are dozens and dozens of releases you have to get in order to properly understand the story of the Forge and Nimrod, which may put new fans off a little.

Now they’re doing boxsets, they can do an entire story arc in a boxset as opposed to multiple releases released over many years.

Seems a good idea in theory.

Whoa, a lot of TBC. Maybe they should have waited a couple of months to tell us.

They will do them but they won’t release titles yet. Spoilers…
