January 8th, 2024 - 9:00pmSo doctor who is not the only BBC series to not feature a charity segment on the official release. The children in need segment featuring davros is of course missing from the 60th anniversary DVD sets. I have just bought the final series of ghosts (love that show) and the comic relief segment with kylie minogue is not on the release. It’s more annoying as there is a blooper reel which features a blooper from it. Guess there must be an embargo on these type of segments being included now.
John
January 9th, 2024 - 10:40amAs time is given freely charity skits and clips etc often do not get a commercial release. Although Some have been included as extras in the past and Curse of the fatal death got its own video.
Anon
January 9th, 2024 - 12:48pmI understand that but it is still frustrating. Nothing to be done about so that’s that really. It would be nice to have these things on DVD but dimensions in time, curse of the fatal death, the davros one and the einstein Matt Smith one are probably destined never to be released officially.
Mrs Croot
January 13th, 2024 - 11:49amEinstein Matt smith wasn’t CIN, it was written by a child and aired during the final episode of Doctor who confidential, so there’s gonna be rights issues with the script the same way the abzorbaloff has rights issues. It should be on iPlayer now though.

January 4th, 2024 - 1:31pmIs it that bad? Im of the stance that people can criticise, but the issue is – some people can’t distinguish being horrible vs criticising. And that applies to both sides. Some people interpret criticism as being discriminatory, when its criticism. Some people are just discriminating but calling it criticism too, ive seen quite a few examples on social media of this.
Criticising how somthing is executed, is good. Criticising somthing because of someones personal life / Personal attributes, is wrong. Taking it beyond the fictional show, and attacking people in reality is ridiculous.
This is someone who has started getting rid of their collection, due to falling out of love with the show. It feels insulting to the fans, because RTD is treating the whole fan base as morons – behind the scenes shows this, his attitudes and the way in which he approaches everything is disgraceful. It feels like a bit of a middle finger to the fans, saying “you know nothing, you will take on MY beliefs” – I miss when shows and films made people Question, ironically – What Tecteun claims is an issue, in flux. She is a villain in that story… RTD, doesn’t want people to question, he wants them to follow his beliefs. The reflections between him and her are pretty funny.
I guess, he is treating the fans as idiots, and generalising them. If people are stupid enough to be discriminatory, or any of those things – then, thats a them problem. Dont group everyone as that. I also think RTD has forgot what an actors job is, and i worry he has stereotyped Ncuti Gatwa (which will likely cause him to get typecast)
The comparison id make is Ian McKellen is one of my favourite actors (an understatement), and he can project a range of serious characters. Yet, he is completely different as a person – he is quite a funny dude. Thats an actors job. Gatwa, likely a great actor – has been typecast, and essentially plays himself. So many people were excited for him, my self included. I like him as an actor to play the Doctor, but he has been handled wrong. Its just a waste of talent, by RTD.
I also feel RTD cast him for the wrong reasons. The right choice, for the wrong reasons. I used to really look up yo RTD, i really did – but my opinions of him have done a 180 over the 60th, the more and more behind the scenes i see of him, he sounds so condescending.

December 30th, 2023 - 11:13pmDoes anyone know where I could find a comprehensive list of classic who dvd that had a different slipcase like how the five doctors 25th anniversary had a limited edition slipcase, but revelation and genesis had that blue slipcase. Idk which others.
And also daemons had a limited edition I think.
Resurrection 1st edition had that rubber one and remembrance special edition had the black one.
Any places to find these lists?

December 29th, 2023 - 11:08pmHere’s a question: Why hasn’t Andrew Pixley got an MBE?
Even the previous DWM editorial team didn’t want to help nominate him for one from what I’ve heard. So writing the definitive history of any TV show, setting the example for others to follow, is apparently nothing to shout about. (Nominations have to be submitted by someone who knows the person and their address, so regular “fans” can’t do it alone.)

With a bonus story starring the Fourteenth Doctor, and a brand-new, very exciting and very exclusive, new tale that will feature the Fifteenth Doctor.

December 30th, 2023 - 10:57amWhy do they even bother? $$$£££££
Bookcollector
December 30th, 2023 - 1:38pmI would buy this if they bothered to put new stories in but it just feels like a ripoff. And yes, I know I don’t have to buy it but as a collector of books and a who can it’s very difficult not to want to buy it. However the decision on this is made. I’m not buying it. I think it really might just be target doctor who books from now on along with panini and obverse books. I’ve ordered the two new novels but I may cancel them. I’m tempted to get them though and see how I feel after reading them. You can’t even wait and pick them up cheap now. I looked at some books in paperback that are between 4 and 6 years old and the average price was £10.99. Gone are the days of picking up cheap books.
Bookcollector
December 29th, 2023 - 3:49pmHave to say 2024 will be a make or break one for me in terms of original fiction. I was disappointed by the anniversary year fiction output. I loved the target books and those will continue to be bought but the rest were varied in success.
We had …
Two classic story mashes. Josephine and the argonauts was great fun but rebellion on treasure island had very weak charactisation.
The doomsday novel also suffered from weak charactisation but was fine, its main problem was the nature of the storytelling, I’m not buying anymore multimedia spanning items regardless of which doctors are in the novels.
Evil of the daleks was great, a good target style adaptation of the repeat showing. Not one we needed but one I enjoyed.
There was a short story collection of okay stories but only featuring one doctor (yes, I know, technically it was two but really…) which was disappointing in the anniversary year.
Then we have the anniversary decades books which were again new who heavy. The best was the Tom Baker story, 3 were good and two I felt featured again, weak charactisation.
So this year is make up my mind year. I’ve collected who books since I was seven, 47 years later I find myself not convinced I want to continue buying them. I stopped buying factual books after the 50th anniversary. I only buy the panini graphic novels now, not being impressed with titans artwork. The target books I will buy regardless of which stories they are. But original fiction I really am uncertain about. I’ve ordered the two original novels due out in 24 and I’ll see what else comes out (although I refuse to buy 15 doctors 15 stories unless it contains 15 new stories and not all the same ones we have bought three times before since 2013 – 11 doctors, then 12 then 13 now 15 later in the year)
I know this may seem like a negative post but actually it’s more to do with practicality. I still love who. I will happily buy the DVDs as the series are released. I will very happily buy the target books and the panini collections. But money is tight and books are increasingly expensive. Older books which should be cheaper are even more expensive nowadays so waiting for the price to drop is often pointless now. I’ve ordered the target hardback of church on ruby road but it will be the only one I buy in that format. The fact that they didn’t just publish it in paperback with the three 60th anniversary books is very annoying. So paperback only in future.
I still love who but its shocking how much stuff I’ve stopped buying over the years. I no longer buy the magazine, the audio CDs (BBC or big finish), toys (figures etc) or any other merchandise.
All I buy now are…
New DVD releases
Fiction books (bbc)
Fiction books (obverse)
Fiction books (panini)
And that’s it. And potentially it may be even less if I stick to just the target books range in future. Anyone else cut right back?
The Fishmonger

December 18th, 2023 - 4:51pmIt seems so, which is unfortunate. I’m shocked they didn’t release a waistcoated 14th Doctor.
