An Adventure in Space and Time DVD Pre-Order
An Adventure in Space and Time (DVD)
Available to order now from www.bbcshop.com or www.amazon.co.uk
This fantastic one-off drama travels back in time to 1963 to see how the beloved Doctor Who was first brought to the screen.
Actor William Hartnell felt trapped by a succession of hard-man roles. Wannabe producer Verity Lambert was frustrated by the TV industry’s glass ceiling. Both of them were to find unlikely hope and unexpected challenges in the form of a Saturday tea-time drama, time travel and monsters!
Allied with a team of brilliant people, they went on to create the longest-running science fiction series ever, now celebrating its 50th anniversary. An Adventure in Space and Time is written by Mark Gatiss, executive produced by Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner and directed by Terry McDonough.
David Bradley (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Broadchurch) plays the lead role of William Hartnell while Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife, The Woman in Black) co-stars as the first ever producer of Doctor Who, Verity Lambert.
The stellar cast is joined by Sacha Dhawan (Waris Hussein), Lesley Manville (Heather Hartnell), and Brian Cox (Sydney Newman). A must see drama for all doctor who and drama fans alike.
DVD extra features include:
• Leaflet featuring programme images and an exclusive foreword by writer and executive producer Mark Gatiss
• William Hartnell: The Original
• The Making of An Adventure – narrated by Carole Ann Ford
• Reconstructions:
– Scenes from An Unearthly Child and the pilot

December 4th, 2013 - 8:54amI got a note on Monday saying it had been sent off to me. Strange as Day of the Doctor I got last Friday morning (Only a tenner in WHSmith) and the last Matt Smith season DVD didn’t arrive until almost a week later.
When it comes, it’ll be worth it.

November 22nd, 2013 - 9:06amre e-mail posted by Marcus Stanton re
John Hurt’s Doctor is the Doctors Dad.
If anyone recently has seen the mini episode with Paul MaGann in, its quite cleat that Paul’s doctor regenerates into John Hurt.
As for ”An Adventure in Space and Time”,I was a fan of Hartnell’s doctor and watched him when I was a boy. David play in him brilliantly.I wonder if he could come back as a guest, as the first Doctor in the main series.
I would also like to see more of Paul McGann’s 8th Doctor, which he was excellent in the that mini story.

November 23rd, 2013 - 1:04amNo it couldn’t. It was better than my all-time favourite Doctor Who episodes. No way a Moffat episode could beat it.

November 21st, 2013 - 10:28pmWhat a brilliant drama, very well done albeit Reece Shearsmith as Troughton reminded me of Jimmy Cranky 🙂

November 21st, 2013 - 10:32pmI thought he played him exactly right and had obviously done his homework but just looked nothing like Troughton 😆

November 21st, 2013 - 11:01pmExactly

November 20th, 2013 - 5:07pmI am going to record An Adventure in Space and Time onto a rewritable DVD in case it does get a blu-ray release one way or the other. I know the picture quality will not be as good, but at least I will still be able watch it.
The Comment Man
November 8th, 2013 - 4:39pmI’m confused, the purple more modern version is the DVD or not? Is the older one the DVD or is the purple one the colour and the older one the inside over thingy or what? Somebody explain
Marcus Stanton
November 8th, 2013 - 7:01pmThe DVD is a reversable cover. I love the one with the Cyberman, Dalek and web creature.
The Comment Man
November 9th, 2013 - 9:29amwhat do you mean reversable? Do you mean the purple one is the front and the one with the Daleks and Cybermen is the back?
Rhain
November 9th, 2013 - 11:12amBy “reversible”, he means that you can take the artwork out of the slip, flip out, and place it back in, and it will be the other artwork. 🙂
AlzieWhozie
November 28th, 2013 - 8:26amI love both covers (I could almost imagine a Harry Hill FIGHT), but will opt for the one with the Dalek, Cyberman and Zarbi. Mmmm
Either way, it was fantastic viewing with many a tear and I loved the scene with Matt Smith. No words were needed, nor should there have been and thats what really put the icing on the cake. Well done to all involved!! Can’t wait for the DVD to come through next week.
RexisnotyourDoctor
November 8th, 2013 - 12:07pmI’m hoping they’re going to release those cover images as full size retro posters soon. Ideally before Chrimbo.
Marcus Stanton
November 7th, 2013 - 8:06pmRight, is this going to be included with The Day of the Doctor blu-ray? Is The Day of the Doctor going to be normal blu-ray included with 3D blu-ray because it seems too cheap to be blu-ray 3D?
booboo
November 7th, 2013 - 8:07pmall we and others have been told is that’s included but that’s all, no extras either i would assume
Marcus Stanton
November 7th, 2013 - 8:10pmAnd also, I just wanna put this out there: I reckon John Hurt’s Doctor is the Doctors Dad… Nobody’s thought of that. Think about it, the Doctors Dad might have wanted the Doctor to have a better life but the Doctor didn’t approve of what his Dad (John Hurt) done. So the Doctor thinks he should keeps his unworthy secret to his grave.
Some bloke
November 7th, 2013 - 9:41pmbut they’ve introduced him as the doctor, so he wouldn’t be the doctor’s dad. That’s like bringing out a cyberman and saying ‘these are the new daleks, but they’re not really, they’re the cybermen’
I Ended the Time War
November 7th, 2013 - 9:59pmAnd it’s like when we were promised new Daleks, but instead we got Tellitubbies!
Matt Smithy
November 8th, 2013 - 7:41amYea, those jokes aren’t funny anymore…
Marcus Stanton
November 8th, 2013 - 6:59pmOur Doctor could’ve taken his name from the very start and decided to keep it even though he’s not worthy of the name ‘Doctor’. And they’re the rainbow Daleks.
Theta Sigma
November 8th, 2013 - 7:24pmI reckon john hurt’s doctor is the 8th doctor (Aged) just look at his clothes, oh Well only 2 more weeks. Cant wait
Cyber lords
November 22nd, 2013 - 7:23amHe’s the doctor in the middle of 8 and 9 it says in the night of the doctor
Sam Bentley
November 7th, 2013 - 7:08pmShould have released this in the classic design I think. Like they did with SotS. I know it isn’t the same thing but it would have been nice.
John Kelly
November 7th, 2013 - 6:37pmSo is this just on Dvd
or Are they doing Blu Ray is well??
Some bloke
November 7th, 2013 - 7:00pmLooks like just dvd for now
MONKEY MONK MONK
November 7th, 2013 - 4:44pmSo is this on The Day of the Doctor dvd or not?
Trenzalore
November 7th, 2013 - 4:45pmno, just an adventure in time and space
Trenzalore
November 7th, 2013 - 4:46pmoh no wait sorry, misread the question.
Radburn
November 8th, 2013 - 11:40amI hope they are not just sticking it on ‘Day Of The Doctor’ as filler, as that would cheapen it. Unless of course ‘Day Of The Doctor’ has no Special Features on it?
Johnny
November 8th, 2013 - 3:19pm“Day of The Doctor” and “An Adventure in Space and Time” are two seperate DVD releases.
drjakeyoung
November 7th, 2013 - 4:36pmIt would be nice if they release this, TDOTD and the Christmas special with a load of extra’s and minisodes in a boxset early next year.
Trenzalore
November 7th, 2013 - 3:36pmLike how they have set it out, very 60’s
Darnall42
November 7th, 2013 - 3:08pmcant see myself buying This on dvd,it’s blu ray or nothing
pwilc1967
November 8th, 2013 - 9:28amDoes that mean you don’t have any classic Dr Who stories??? I’m blu-ray too but have to make exceptions occasionally
TheKaneda
November 26th, 2013 - 8:32am@pwilc1967 – Although he/she may not have any classic Doctor Who, I think the point is that if it’s produced in HD (which classic Doctor Who wasn’t) then it’s Blu-ray or nothing.
Which I totally agree with. Especially considering the attention to detail and cinematography on this one. I wouldn’t even *consider* getting this on DVD.
pwilc1967
November 26th, 2013 - 9:25amObviously if something is available on blu ray, then that takes preference. I was just wondering if Darnall42 refuses ANYTHING on dvd. Perhaps BBC are judging it’s potential by putting it out on dvd first (strange as it’s dearer than the blu ray of Day of the Doctor) or they have plans to include it in a massive blu ray box set with “Time of the Doctor”. Broadchurch has been ouit months on DVD now only getting a blu-ray release.
To confirm I will hold out for blu ray too but if certain titles (usually limited to tv series) …..
pwilc1967
November 26th, 2013 - 9:26am(continued)
are unlikely EVER to get a blu ray release then I may consider buying them (DR WHO or otherwise)
DOCTOR WHO ONE
November 7th, 2013 - 3:08pmOh very nice. I was wondering if this would come out to DVD 🙂
Some bloke
November 7th, 2013 - 2:54pmHey, does anyone know what the promotion code at BBC Shop is this month? I’ve tried RPNOV13 and RP1113.

November 7th, 2013 - 2:58pmDon’t worry, I just found out they’re still using octobers code – RPOCT13
timelord63

November 7th, 2013 - 3:23pmthink it has to be over £25 this month

November 7th, 2013 - 3:41pmIIRC, they are still accepting RPSEPT13 so try that 🙂
Some bloke
November 7th, 2013 - 2:48pmI love both designs by Lee Binding, but I will be switching the cover around for the more colourful, 60’s annual cover. LOOKS GREAT!
