This June, BBC Worldwide Americas and Titan Comics are excited to announce that the Seventh Doctor is back, in comics! This brand-new three-part comic series stars the Seventh Doctor, as played by Sylvester McCoy, alongside classic companion Ace (Sophie Aldred).

Hitting stores and digital platforms in June 2018 with a double-sized first issue, DOCTOR WHO: THE SEVENTH DOCTOR #1, written by Seventh Doctor script editor and showrunner Andrew Cartmel, and writer Ben Aaronovitch (Rivers of London). Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor expands Titan Comics’ hugely popular and critically acclaimed Doctor Who comics line.

Actor Sylvester McCoy starred as the Seventh Doctor from 1987 to 1989 anchoring hundreds of novels and comic strips before regenerating in the 1996 TV movie. As well as this new comic, the Seventh Doctor’s era lives on in a tremendously successful series of audios from Big Finish. McCoy’s portrayal as the Doctor was, at first, a light-hearted eccentric who darkened into a secretive, mysterious, and cunning planner across the course of his tenure.

In Titan Comics’ new mini-series, an unknown alien intelligence in orbit around the Earth. Astronauts under attack. A terrifying, mysterious landing in the Australian interior. The future of the world itself at stake. Counter Measures activated. The Seventh Doctor and Ace are slap bang in the middle of it all! This is OPERATION VOLCANO!

Ben Aaronovitch and Andrew Cartmel return to the TARDIS, on the 30th anniversary of fan-favorite episode “Remembrance of the Daleks” with The Seventh Doctor comics, and are joined by illustrator Christopher Jones (The Third Doctor) and colorist Marco Lesko (Robotech, The Ninth Doctor) to bring astonishing twists and turns to the lives of the Seventh Doctor, and his companions, with Titan’s new comic series.

The debut issue comes with four variant covers to collect: three art covers by artists Alice X. Zhang, Simon Myers, and Christopher Jones, and a photo cover by Will Brooks. The Seventh Doctor will also materialize with a back-up strip written by Twelfth Doctor scribe Richard Dinnick, with art by Jessica Martin (Actor: Doctor Who: The Greatest Show In The Galaxy, Voice actor: Doctor Who: Voyage of the Damned).

Guys, I don’t really know much about the Classic Era, but I don’t want to watch it. What’s the best way to understand the characters? Target books? Big Finish? Please give specific stories and names!!! Thanks.

I agree with Faction Paradox, miles better, JNT combined with Andrew Cartmel were like an iconic duo like Batman and Robin in their time, JNT was an epic man, wish he were alive so I could shake his hand and commend him on some of his amazing work on Who…

Yes watch it, it was the actors themselves that shaped the characters in to how the are portrayed in everything that followed.

Better watching episodes like Rememberance of the Daleks or the Curse of Fenric to really gage the characters.

Why not watch the Classic Series? Everyone here is right, it’s a hell of a lot better than all the NuWho. No romance, no Juvenile gags (like the nudity jokes from Time of the Doctor, dear god), no Deus Ex Machinas and no Clara. Sure, its a bit dated, but it’s still good content. And some stories, like Day of the Daleks, even have Special Editions that improve the visual effects if that stuff bothers you.

If you want to get a handle on the 7th Doctor and Ace though, watch Remembrance, it’s my favourite episode of all time and it is awesome. It’s got Daleks blowing up other Daleks, what is not to love?

All of them! I currently read the EDA, PDA AND NSA Books, the Titan Comics, listen to the Big Finish stories and watch the Episodes – I can’t promise you will completely catch up and it will take a while but as far as judging for yourself its the only option. Some might have to be taken with a shaker of salt cause of continuity but I’m doing well so far

To ALL: Classic Who is well worth a watch, but it’s no better or worse than NuWho. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

To “The Outcast” specifically: What’s wrong with Clara? I thought she was cool 🙂

I love old and new who. To me who is who. Oh and clara is my favourite companion. And before the clara haters say the old companions were better, I’ve watched who now for 43 years I’ve seen every companion, every story my previous favourite was Sarah Jane now it’s clara. As for jnt. I remember the hatred for jnt that many vocal fans expressed at the time. Seems some things don’t change just the methods. Then it was letters, now it’s social media. I always find the social part of that ironic considering the amount of hatred spouted on it!

To “Whorules”: true dat, as far as social media goes.

Also, it’s always nice to see another Clara fan 🙂 Can we be friends?

Don’t normally get these, but considering who it’s penned by, will definitely get the first issue!

Great idea for a mini-series, but only three issues is a bit disappointing. Even with an over-sized first issue, I don’t think it’s asking much to expect at least four.

Aww, they should’ve got Alice X Zhang to do a cover for Doc 7. He’s a good Doctor and deserves a picture by Alice.

They have. There are apparently 4 variant covers for Issue 1 and the one not pictured is by her.

Actually, I stand corrected now I re-read this article more carefully!

“he debut issue comes with four variant covers to collect: three art covers by artists Alice X. Zhang, Simon Myers, and Christopher Jones, and a photo cover by Will Brooks.”

The middle pic looks closest to her style I’m thinking?

Believe middle is the Will Brooks as he posted it on Facebook earlier

So it is (and zooming in to the bottom right, you can see his credit). Well, I guess the Alice X Zhang one hasn’t been revealed as-yet. Looking forward to seeing it.
