Big Finish The War Doctor 4 Casualties of War

Available to order from www.bigfinish.com

The War Doctor and Cardinal Ollistra are stranded far from their Time Lord forces, with Daleks closing in, destroying all that stands between them. They must call on the help of new friends and old to fight their way back to the front lines.

From the outer reaches of the galaxy, to the heart of Gallifrey itself, the Doctor finds casualties in every place the Time War has touched. Among them, a fighter, a travelling companion of the distant past, who remembers him quite differently. A warrior woman named Leela…

4.1 Pretty Lies by Guy Adams

Trapped and desperate, light years from their armies at the heart of the Time War, the War Doctor and Cardinal Ollistra discover that wherever they go, destruction follows. A war reporter named Schandel may provide the key to their escape, but it is often said that the first casualty of war is the truth. When the choice between grim reality and a hero’s story means life or death, will the Doctor allow Schandel to print the legend?

4.2 The Lady of Obsidian by Andrew Smith

As a Dalek Strike Fleet heads to destroy another defenceless world, the Doctor seeks help from a shadowy guerrilla force. The Time War leaves many casualties in its wake, and inside the Obsidian Nebula the monstrous Unlived are held at bay only by the ‘Lady’ and her dwindling band of fighters. The War Doctor soon finds himself at the Lady’s mercy, and two old friends face new revelations…

4.3 The Enigma Dimension by Nicholas Briggs

The Dalek Time Strategist has a new plan to ensure final victory in the Time War. As its forces gather for a huge assault on the enemy, ahead of the fleet something hovers above the planet of the Time Lords. And on Gallifrey itself, shadows move among the Cloisters. The Time Lords face a threat alien to their entire universe. To save their world, the War Doctor and his allies must enter the Enigma Dimension…

Does anyone know if this final instalment of ‘Big Finish’ audio adventures featuring the War Doctor, dovetails nicely into the BBC War Doctor story ‘Engines of War’? Or does ‘Big Finish’ not consider it as a valid story, and rewrite an alternative back story? Which would be surprising, considering the brilliant Nicholas Briggs has worked closely on the ‘Big Finish’ audio’s, and narrated ‘Engines of War’ for audio…where I might add, he does a superb impression of the late John Hurt.

We won’t know till its released, but I imagine it won’t contradict Engines of War.

If anyone’s interested, I’ve done a short animation with the War Doctor meeting K9 and a considerably older Leela. It’s on Youtube. I have a channel on Youtube called ‘Mayo’s Animated Sketchbook’. It’s fairly basic animation, but I make a variety of short sketches with humour.

I’m grateful for these little treasures though. Outstanding range. A shame though if we never get to hear him facing off against Derek Jacobi’s Master. Now that would be an event!

Nothing about that Dalek reminds me of the Daleks artwork on the disc 1 of the series 7 DVD Boxset

Love these stories but hope that some will appear featuring other races/ monsters that were caught up in the Time War. That it will not simply be Daleks every time. John Hurt is certainly The Doctor!

      Purple?!!!!
Ok, original and a change from the usual time controllers, I like it.
But how can I take it seriously when it’s shade of purple is almost the same as the purple tele tubbie.
I do salute them for using elements of two daleks and still making it look innovative. We haven’t seen a newish dalek look since asylum of the daleks, in the parliament. Thinner and metallic paradigm daleks.
I do think the bronze is just too stale though.

It looks a bit less Teletubbie on the previous cover. Also, I agree, we need this as a figure. CO could do it, they would only need one new mold. War Doctor and Dalek set anyone?

Purple is a bit of a strange colour when I think about it. I’m not sure if this is true or not but I think purple is the colour of death. Which strangely suits the Daleks when you think of it like that

It doesn’t look good on here because it’s CGI, on the previous cover it did though.
