When she’s not busy amassing armies of Cybermen, or manipulating the Doctor and his companions, Missy has plenty of time to kill (literally).

In this all new collection of stories about the renegade Time Lord we all love to hate, you’ll discover just some of the mad and malevolent activities Missy gets up to while she isn’t distracted by the Doctor.

So please try to keep up.

Yeah, tbh Missy was good… but she wasn’t really the Moriaty that matched the Doctor’s Sherlock Holmes as with her predecessors. We know so little about his time between the stories after he disappeared into the Time War. All that was written was that the time lords fixed him and he left…

I completely agree. If this were the John Simm Master Chronicles, it would be an instant purchase for me. I’m actually living in hope that Big Finish get around to some Simm Master stories (as they’ve done with the Sir Derek Jacobi Master). I’ve had my fill of Missy, though, I must confess.

It’s the perfect opportunity to visit them again and maybe see more abilities or skills.

    Excited for this 🙂
Missy has really grown on me and I always enjoy seeing Michele Gomez in every project she is in, very underrated actress.

You do know Missy is The Master (?) The Master has been in DW since the 70s with Jon Pertwee – 3rd Doctor.

Missy is the next regeneration or few of The Master. Every incarnation isn’t going to be the same like The Doctor.

I was honestly hoping this was a Series from Big Finish about the Master/Missy following up from The War Master spin off

Same, the cover looks like typical Big Finish cover art. Btw BF don’t have the license to produce anything based on concepts from the 12th Doctor’s era…yet. Just Docs 1-11

They just got rights to David Bradley as the First Doctor
does that count as a 12th Doctor Era Thing

as thats the first Doctor who they have had from the beginning I think thats a different thing

^Yup, on paper it’s still the First Doctor. For cover-art it doesn’t matter which era of images they use. They used a promo of River Song from THORS for the cover of The Dairy of River Song, for example. It’s just characters and concepts exclusive to 12’s era they can’t use yet.

I love the Michelle Gomez incarnation, but for god sake, just call her the Master, it really annoyed me when simm returned and the general media outlets essentially treated them as separate characters

It’s too late for that. By the time she had revealed herself as the Master in Series 8 she had already been cemented as Missy.

There are benefits to it though. The one really great thing about having a name/title that is specific to her incarnation of the Master is that we can get stuff like this.

Is this really the trend they’re sticking to? Short story collections based on a prominent character? None of these have interested me (and the River Song one just irked me because it made the Picnic at Asgard an 11th Doc adventure, which just makes her look dumb when she’s asking 10 in Silence in the Library if he’s experienced any of them yet. Can you really forget his faces like that?!)

She doesn’t know what order his faces come in though, the first time she sees 10 is the only time she sees that specific doctor so the query still makes sense sort of surely as for her his tenth face could come after number 12. But then again I haven’t read any of her extended storyline so I don’t know if this is addressed I’ve only seen her storyline in the episodes and the medlody malone book

Tbh I’m still waiting for a new novel to be released with a dalek in it or a monster from the actual program it’s been so long since there’s been one

      August 9th, 2017 - 1:18pm

She must know what order his faces come in as she has all the pictures of his incarnations in order in The Husbands of River Song…

      August 9th, 2017 - 1:52pm

It’s strange because surely she shouldn’t know that tennant is the Doctor unless she’s had a previous adventure with him otherwise how does she know what his face looks like. Rivers first story sort of gives you the sense that she’s had another meeting with ten previously because she recognises his face rather than his associated name but then you have to think how does she know what his tenth face looks like if this encounter never happened. And she said to Rory that one day the Doctor will look into her eyes and not have the faintest idea who she is so again suggests she doesn’t really know when that moment is going to happen. So even though all the faces were in order in HOR I feel like that was more for the people at home rather than for her

She guesses sort-of correctly that 10 during Silence is “early days” for their relationship, which likely means she knows the order (at least as far as 10 before 11) and that she and 10 share some other adventures. Moffat pushed River’s reasoning when he made the Byzantium an 11th story (if only Tennant had stayed for Series 5, eh?), but to put Asgard in 11’s history just makes River incredibly daft. Though maybe her memories got “really” foggy during their night on Darillium, I dunno.

Well River Song is 200 in Husbands & much older again in SITL so it’s not that much of a jump to assume she misremembers some of her adventures just as the Doctor does.

Jenny Colgan actually discusses making it an 11th Doctor story in a DWM preview. I can’t remember the exact reason but she pushed for it to be a Matt Smith story.

      September 19th, 2017 - 11:36am

Who else was thinking that a story about 10 and river who may have met before SITL and 10 had a memory wipe so couldn’t remember her but river still remembers him, just to clarify the fact that river has seen that incarnation of the doctor before. Or it could be the fact that in THORS as someone pointed out that she has pictures of all incarnations of the doctor she has met or is gonna meet one day in her book. That’s why she recognises his face.

I wonder what person perspective this story will be in? I can see it being really entertaining if it is in first person perspective.

If it has the same sassiness that Missy has in her on-screen appearances, then may consider getting it.
