Regeneration Stories – Which Are Your 3 Favourite ?

What Are Your 3 Most Favourite Regeneration Stories?

With all the talk of regenerations, past Doctors and DVD sets as the 50th anniversary draws near we ask which are your favourite regeneration stories.

Doctor Who Regenerations box set

With thanks to BBC Worldwide…

Doctor Who Regeneration

The Doctor Who Regeneration set is a beautifully packaged, limited edition coffee table book-styled collectors’ album including six DVDs and over 10 hours of Doctor Who footage.

The collection features each Doctor’s iconic regeneration episode; from the first Doctor played by William Hartnell, exhausted after battling the Cybermen to Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor suffering from radiation that had been unleashed by the Great One (a giant spider); and from the spectacular transformation of the Ninth Doctor to David Tennant’s emotional farewell as the Tenth.

The set is adorned with superb photography from across the era and features detailed and informative accounts of each regeneration. And if that wasn’t enough, new to DVD is The Tenth Planet featuring the Doctor’s first regeneration – beautifully restored with the missing fourth episode now brought to life with stunning animation.

Regeneration_Cover-2

Utilising the original soundtrack, off-screen photographs and a short surviving sequence of the Doctor’s regeneration the episode has been now reconstructed in animated form, incorporating the restored version of the surviving sequence.

think it would have been better if they had ten disks, 1 with each story (2 for the war games) with maybe a documentary and some special features on the disks.

that would make it too expensive

      April 28th, 2013 - 3:35pm

they managed to make the David Tennant years box like this with tons of episodes and special features and ant was only $100 (£80)! I would raver spend £80 on a really good set than £40 on an average set.

      nice pick! for me its
      1. End of Time: Brings back the timelords and 10th regeneration so yeah.
      2. Caves of Androzani: Amazing story, brilliant action and violent story
      3. Logopolis: Personal, first Doctor Who story i watched (i saw part 3 i think when i was six and can still remember it and fourth doctor + master pretty amazing.
      4. Parting of the Ways: Emperor Dalek… what else?
      5. TV Movie: I think the slightly gothic atmosphere and new doctor was brilliant didn’t like anything else really

i would go on about 6,7,8 and 9 but to be honest it pretty much goes Planet of the Spiders, The War Games then Tenth Planet because even though l’ve never watched the two i have no doubt in my mind that Tenth Planet would be better than Time and the Rani.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      April 28th, 2013 - 2:42am

Logopolis is actually my most hated story EVER. Its plot is dull, the acting is below par (surprisingly because they are all incredible actors), musical score wasn’t noticeable, the regeneration reason was phony; need I go on (p.s. I will). The Master was thrown in and the plot twist that math keeps the universe in balance couldn’t have been more boring. I just wish he didn’t try and change the TARDIS exterior and this entire adventure wouldn’t have happened. I actually could go on for hours, but it’s 9 here and I’m watch TV with my sister.

I really liked Paul Mcgann, i really hope we see him again sometime. not keen on some aspects of it but always found the movie enjoyable to watch personally,

    • Lachie

      April 28th, 2013 - 1:22am

same goes, i kinda wish Paul McGann was used for the new series in a way

    • Connor

      April 28th, 2013 - 2:09am

I wish he had a spin off series to show what the 8th doctor did and show his life time as we did not see it when he was the doctor in 1996! Who here agrees?

    • pathdw98

      April 28th, 2013 - 2:12am

I agree with you booboo, I hope Paul McGann returns for 1 or more episodes, hopefully for the 50th because if any Doctor deserves to return the most, it’s the 8th. And he really wants to return as well, so hopefully one day it’ll happen.

    • Lachie

      April 28th, 2013 - 2:16am

i really think the production team should stop going on about how bringing back doctors from the past is just a gimmick i mean yeah its hard to do now an example being Peter Davison with David Tennant but surely a Two Doctors thing like with the Sixth Doctor should be possible for example with the Eleventh and the Eighth. If any doctor can be brought to the new series again for a story it would be him.

    • pathdw98

      April 28th, 2013 - 2:44am

You’re right Lachie, because if age is a problem with bringing the old Doctors back, it doesn’t apply to Paul because we never saw him regenerate. for all we know The 8th Doctor could’ve looked about 80 when he did regenerate.

    • Justjeulin

      April 28th, 2013 - 3:29am

I thought the Doctor’s body was never meant to age? The only reason that the Doctor looked aged in TWORS was because of the time collapsing right?

    • pathdw98

      April 28th, 2013 - 1:06pm

I think he can age, The Leisure Hive and Last of the Time Lords being examples. But then again he never lives long enough in a regeneration for us to find out for sure.
Also Tom Baker has clearly got older between seasons 12 and 18, Sylvester McCoy between the series and the movie and Patrick Troughton’s grey hair in The Two Doctors.

    • Dalek The Supreme

      April 28th, 2013 - 2:21pm

Paul McGann and Tom Baker are the Doctors I most want to see back for the 50th. Paul had only one TV appearance and is such a great actor he deserves another. Need I explain why the legendary Tom Baker should return?

    • MAXP

      April 29th, 2013 - 4:22am

Pathdw98, I think you’re meant to ignore the fact Troughton looks older in the 2 Docs – his Doctor is not actually meant to be older than he was during his original appearance on the show! he’s meant to be from that era!
