The Three Doctors Collectors Set 1972 – Pictures

The Three Doctors Collectors Set 1972

This item can be ordered from www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk. Please note this item is exclusive to Forbidden Planet international in the UK.

Don’t forget our interactive Doctor Who Classic Lists where you can see every classic 5″ figure ever made and save which one you own. There are also handy filers to see which figures have been made in each of The Doctors Era’s or see only companions, Masters etc.

3-doctors-box580

A gel-like plasma creature arrives on Earth and hunts down the third Doctor, who calls on the Time Lords for help. The Time Lords themselves are in crisis as their energy is being drawn off into a black hole. They send the Doctor’s earlier selves to join him.

brig-set-02580

The first Doctor, caught in a time eddy and able only to advise, deduces that the creature is a time bridge. The third Doctor and Jo then give themselves up to it and are transported to a world of antimatter beyond the black hole.

brig-set-01580

On Earth, the second Doctor is forced to take refuge in the TARDIS along with the Brigadier and Sergeant Benton. On the advice of the first Doctor he switches off the ship’s force field, and the whole UNIT building is transported through the black hole.

brig-set-jo-01580

Behind these events is Omega, a figure from Time Lord history whose solar engineering provided the power for time travel.

brig-set-gel-01580

He has been trapped in the black hole ever since and now wants the Doctor to swap places with him, but it transpires that the corrosive properties of his domain have already destroyed his physical form, leaving only his will.

This Gel Guard was lit with a lamp under a glass table – it looks superb…

The 1960s was before my time, creaky old black and white – but its still Doctor Who and i’m glad to say i discovered that in the 70s and 80s where it was new to me. I’m also glad i bought the Dead Planet Daleks and other 1960s figures.

Last time I was at FP they didn’t have many classic sets remaining.

This was okay because I only came for the Resurrection of the Daleks set and afew Series 6 figures.

But next time I want the Caves of Adrozahni set, the Invasion of Time set and the Keeper of Traken set. Hope they have got them ! ❗

It just looks like it has a better tone to the face. Of course, it could be the lighting.
Like you say, photos very rarely do them justice.

I’m just wondering who this person is to have it so early. Must work for CO/UT.

So, now we have two figures that have topped the ‘most wanted’ lists of many (In the Brigadier and Jo) , what would be next most wanted figure? For me it has to be Ace, maybe in a 3 set with a Haemovore and 1 of the Cheetah people. Sound good?

I prefer the 3docs one, although it would be nice to have a 5docs one. I just wish they would rerelease the 3docs one with the 3docs Pertwee! Would make a great 2 pack! Then a TARDIS set would be nice, either Pertwee or a bunch of rotocasts form his lab lol.

    • booboo

      September 26th, 2012 - 10:10pm

hopefully one day but there are so many figures that could be done

    • McGann is the Doctor

      September 27th, 2012 - 10:06am

I am sure they will make an 80s Omega in a years time.

Then I would have a real purpose for the Gel Guard.

And a orange jacket Pertwee. But I wouldn’t worry about the look of the figures until you have them in hand. Yes the Brig looks good even in the photo, but then when does the Brig not look good? lol, but yeah, im sure Jo will be fine in hand! Can’t wait to see packaging and backdrop! Would be nice if they put Bessie on it lol.

      September 26th, 2012 - 9:16pm

Is anyone forgetting Sarah Jane, I would love a figure of her, in her yellow raincoat and red boots from the sontaran experiment lol. Or the Andy Pandy outfit.:)

    • whofan4ever

      September 26th, 2012 - 9:30pm

yeah a classic SJ figure would be good although i thought they would’ve made a tribute figure but since it’s CO, no. i hope we get a sarah jane classic set with her from the robot or the sontaran experiment which Andrew said /\. also stop with so many classics and make some new series figures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we want rory!!!! a proper one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Justjeulin

      September 26th, 2012 - 11:17pm

Whoops forgot to put username.(To Andrew) But anyways, I don’t believe that they’re always better in hand since Rory, but yeah. I’d really like a Bessie! I think the packaging will be the same as the Enemies set. (To whofan4ever) Yeah they really should make that (rory and sarah jane) We do need new series sets. But I bet the cubes are gonna be like the cybermats last year

    • Anonymous

      September 26th, 2012 - 8:47pm

It was to mark the start of the celebrations of their tenth year.

It’s like with the 50th, the fans are planning celebrations for all through 2013 and similarly back suring the 10th anniversary the whole of 1973 was used to celebrate (although back then all that meant was a behind the scenes book, a Radio Times special and launching of the Target novelisation range).

    • dr who 1999

      September 26th, 2012 - 9:05pm

the first 2 episodes was broadcasted in December 1972, the other in January 1973, dunno why they didn’t show it in November 1973

    • andrew

      September 26th, 2012 - 9:16pm

Maybe timings, it was the first of a new season, maybe the BBC couldn’t find time to put it on.

Read my explanation above. It’s just a part of the tenth anniversary celebrations. Various other things were planned but fell through (like a planned twelve parter that in teh end got split into Frontier in Space and Planet of the Daleks but follwoed practically the same story).
