I think a long time ago the doctor was told that his name is a dangerous name it is a name that destroys worlds so the dr made a promise to gallifrey to never say it so he needed to choose a new name so he chose the name the doctor and he would live on as the doctor and never reveal his name.
but when the john hurts dr was fighting in the time war he realised the time lords were going to loose and the daleks were going to escape gallifrey and destroy more worlds as they lived on. but the dr needed to change that so he chose he was going to sacrifice the time lords and kill both the time lords and the daleks by revealing his name witch would destroy gallifrey and kill the daleks so the doctor said his name and gallifrey and the daleks died and the dr escaped.
after the time war john hurts dr realised what he had done and was ashamed in himself and he realised this current incretion dose not deserve the name the doctor because he broke the promise so the doctor killed him self so he could live on and start a new life and forget about the evil dr who destroyed gallifrey….and broke the promise

May 19th, 2013 - 6:50pmDoes anyone think that many unexplained and random occurrences throughout Doctor Who were from Clara? When I saw that scene and they explained I immediately thought of ‘Timelash’ where the TARDIS was going to blow up and be destroyed and after about 10 minutes of tension and it blows up, it immediately comes back, unharmed, and the Doctor couldn’t explain. Of cource it was jus Glen McCoy being lazy and a bad writer, but I thought about that and several other occurences where the Doctor was randomly saved and I now wonder if Clara is the reason.

Wells in it and then they suddenly, for no reason, come from a door in the main room and then the Doctor only says “I’ll explain it later.” I just thought, since that is what was said, that all the weird and random times the Doctor was saved that it could be Clara.

May 19th, 2013 - 1:03pmIt’s a bit stupid beacouse if there only is 12 regeneration s Steven has just ruined it if John hurt turns out to be the 9th doctor it means we have missed many 7th doctor episodes and 8th already this means we lose out more with johns doctor and also means if there is only 12 regenerations matt has 1 to go wich is why I did not enjoy dr who last night and was really hoping for a 2 part ending at least 🙁

May 19th, 2013 - 11:11amguys i think i have figured out who john hurts doctor is he is the first doctor, william hartnell was the first regeneration, john hurt did something so bad the only way to get away from it was to run away, change his appearance and change his name hence the reason matt smith said that whatever john hurt did it was not in the name of the doctor because it was before he became the doctor

May 19th, 2013 - 12:10pmi totally believe your theory! thats what i thought at first even look at my early coments, though rumors have it john hurt is playing the ninth doctor thats why the ninth doctor was in the script and not Christopher Eccleston! and if you see his costume its mixed between 8th and 9th. i hope he is a younger first doctor, please be true! if he is then we should expect him in a figure form soon! (hopefully in a 5 inch size!).

Early Time Lord history shows they were corrupted by power. Perhaps the earliest version was also tainted (eg early friendship with the Master). Committed some early deed that required (a lifetime) of atonement?
No regeneration shown, Time War resulted in devastation across time and space. John Hurt saying what he did, he did with no/little choice. A terrible act, but perhaps the lesser of many evils?
Valeyard was the malevolent personality from between the 12th & 13th incarnations. Perhaps corrupts the final incarnation?

May 19th, 2013 - 12:43pmUm, it’s not a rule that he gets younger every time… if it was explain the 2nd to 3rd Doctors, how would Jon be older than Pat? And Connor, Chris will still be the 9th Doctor, but the 10th incarnation, as John Hurt’s Doctor is the 9th incarnation, but he went by his real name, not the Doctor, because of what he did in the time war. That’s why he doesn’t show up when the bad guy is told to look up “the doctor”, because he goes by his real name.

So 9 is the 10th Incarnation of the timelord, but the 9th Doctor. I hope that made sense….
Anyway, I would really like a John Hurt Figure released
