Video Now Live – Six New Character Doctor Who Collectors’ Sets

Following on from the summer’s B&M release, Character Options is delighted to announce a brand new wave of Doctor Who action figure sets for autumn2020. The new collection will be available in the UK on shelf in B&M stores from early October.

Sales in the US will begin mid-October via The Official North America Doctor Who Store, and Amazon. This exciting launch will introduce six brand new Action Figure Sets-an all new look for the Friends of the Thirteenth Doctor set, a new Companions of the Third and Fourth Doctors set, a very special U.N.I.T set, plus a Fifth Doctor & TARDIS set. Rounding up the release will be two more History of the Daleks Sets which chart their chronological TV appearances.

Each and every set of this detailed series will include highly detailed 5.5 inch scale figures featuring multiple points of articulation and come presented in the now well established ‘classic’ Doctor Who packaging.

The sets in detail:

The Companions of the Third & Fourth Doctor set features new figures of Sarah and Romana 1 and 2 and spans the dates April 1974 to December 1979. This set includes Sarah Jane Smith in her outfit from 1974’s ‘Monster of Peladon’ story, Romana 1 in her outfit from December 1978’s ‘The Power of Kroll’ story and Romana 2 in her red outfit from the story ‘The Horns of Nimon’.

Staying with the ‘companion’ theme, is the Friends of the Thirteenth Doctor set with updated figures of companions Yasmin (Yaz) Khan, Graham O’Brien and Ryan Sinclair. These, most recent companions all feature in a brand new set of outfits inspired by their on screen adventures.

For many collectors, the arrival of the1971 U.N.I.T Claws of Axos Set can’t be bettered but with the addition of the 1975U.N.I.T Terror of the Zygons Set, Character Options has added what is possibly the most anticipated and eagerly awaited variant of the Fourth Doctor to the mix; decked out in his fetching tartan scarf and Tam ‘O’ Shanter hat. The set is completed by the addition of Sergeant John Benton, this time in camouflage fatigues and an additional U.N.I.T trooper, both with Sterling SMG machine guns as seen in the timeless 1975 story battling the shape shifting Zygons.

Next up is the updated release of the Fifth Doctor and TARDIS Set featuring detailing from February 1982’s ‘The Visitation’. The set comprises a crisp moulding of the Fifth Doctor with his floppy hat, while the TARDIS comes in a pristine blue livery.

Finally,Character Options is to release the next two History of the Daleks Sets.“The Daleks’ Collector Set Number 3 comprises of a Twin Dalek Set and features the Daleks as seen fully in in 1965’s ‘The Chase’.

This set features one of the ‘guest’ Daleks brought in from the Doctor Who and the Daleks film which appear in the Dalek Control room sequences of Episode 3 and one of the Standard silver drone Daleks.

Additionally, “The Daleks’ Collector Set Number 4 features two Daleks as seen in The Dalek Master Plan from 1966. This set features the attractive Black Dalek with Grey shoulders, a silver neck bin and silver solar struts alongside one of the Silver Drones seen in the jungle sequences clearing foliage with a flame thrower device.

Al Dewar, Character Options’ Creative Director, said. “This is another first for the Doctor Who line and good new sfor the fans in what has been a difficult year. We are delighted therefore to announce this full second wave of figures being released which has comes in addition to our recent Internet exclusive. “We were determined to give the fans something exciting and again hopefully we have genuinely surprised them with the new additions that have been coupled with some of our previous released figures. The inclusion of a new Fourth Doctor, Sarah and Romana 1 will hopefully surprise everyone in what is an astounding number of new figures this year and hopefully we will continue to exceed the expectations of fans and collectors alike.”

Hi, Booboo. I live in the East Midlands and, unfortunately, probably because of COVID, it took a while for the previous wave to arrive in the B&M Storers where I live. Do you think the same thing will happen for this wave or do you think that the stock will arrive more quickly this time?

      no idea the moment

The Bexhill store had tonnes of 13th Doctor sets left, and with this next batch of 13th Doctor sets I can only imagine they will be left with thee sets forever more

I just don’t think the current companions are popular enough to warrant such frequent releases.

Whereas the classics are off the shelf so fast, quicker than they can stock them.

Complete opposite here. 13th set flew off shelves and unit sets seem to be multiplying by the day

I am dreaming of classic series ELECTRONIC Tardis with the card interiors. The first, third and fourth doctors would make my Xmas (with the sounds and lights). Come on Character Options!

Why are these waves of figures coming out so close together , my local b&m still have loads of the last ones on the shelf.

    • booboo

      September 29th, 2020 - 3:22pm

Because the original sets were due much much earlier in the year but got delayed by a few months.

      September 29th, 2020 - 4:41pm

BooBoo, in your honest opinion can you see problems arising from the release of the new wave so close to the last one. With many people reporting local store shelf’s still choc a block full.
(Could you see a possible delay?)

    • booboo

      September 29th, 2020 - 4:50pm

well there is no delay, stock is already on its way out, It might actually help because people were still reluctant to go out a couple of months ago but maybe not so much now so they might pick up everything, other thing is a lot of stores have a lot but some stores nothing some some redistribution might be in order, but lets face nothing this year has been ideal and it would have been very different had things happened as planned.

Wonder if this means the stores that had little to not much stock last time will get most/all the sets this time round?

      September 29th, 2020 - 5:34pm

I havent seen a Troughton Tardis or Dalek pack in many weeks. It’s really only the 13th Doctor set that’s pegwarming to a disturbing extent.

    • The Werewolf

      September 29th, 2020 - 7:05pm

Mine still has loads of all except Dalek pack 1. There are at least as many Fourth Companion and UNIT sets as Thirteenth sets. And quite a few TARDIS 2nd Doc sets and some Dalek set 2. I am 95 percent sure they will not get the new batch in

Hey, booboo. I hope you’re well. I live in the East Midlands and, (I’m probably guessing it was because of covid) it took quite a while for the previous wave to arrive in the B&M stores where I live. Do you think the same thing will happen or do you think that the stock will be arriving a lot quicker this time? Apologies for the silly question.

    • booboo

      September 30th, 2020 - 9:02am

no idea to be honest , we will soon find out

    • Mrs Croot

      September 29th, 2020 - 10:11pm

My local store sold out within the first 3 days, so I’m surprised to hear this is a problem. There is no Doctor Who there now. If you are thinking that there is a problem with back stock then don’t worry. My B&M displayed their back stock of two doctors and tweaked eleventh doctor sets right up with the last wave and everything sold out. Everything will be sold and B&M won’t be discouraged by a few unsold sets, because they know they will be sold eventually.

Let’s have another classic Master figure to take the wind out of the eBay touts sails. Movie Master and Grace figures too!

    • Dalekpigslave

      September 29th, 2020 - 1:45pm

License mate, for the movie master and grace

I want a Modern dalek emperor figure, I want a 2013 cyberman figure , I want a brand new expensive re sculpt figure for my budget b and m set,

Let’s see what comes out and wait, let not expect this and that, this feels a bit too entitled.

    • Slitheen71

      September 29th, 2020 - 3:56pm

How many times do some people want figures re-released. New figures an variants please.
The 1st classic master has been released in 4 different sets, 1 already in a B&M set.
The crispy master released 3 times if you include the repaint in traken set, once in a B&M set.
The 2nd master was released only in a 2 pack SDCC exclusive and should remain a holy grail figure because that’s the fun of collecting. This pack was hard to get and cost a lot to buy even when it first came out and is a prize in many people’s collections including mine. Produce him in his black velvet costume but don’t take all the fun out of collecting by re-releasing.
5 brigs already released, so glad they didn’t put him in zygon pack. I will take a Yates, sorry I mean generic unit soldier anyday.

      September 30th, 2020 - 2:27am

Just want to quickly say, the TV Movie Master could still be done, as the Master is property of the BBC, it’s only original characters from the Movie that can’t be used, such as Grace and Chang Lee.

  • Noble Warrior

    September 29th, 2020 - 8:24am

Thinking about your latest release video last night. You mentioned that that Sarah Jane figure is from Monster of Peladon.
Could there be a Friend and Foes of Peladon set, Alpha Centauri, Azaxyr and Sskel?
And if so, would you consider the new series Ice Warriors set. Skaldak. Empress and Friday?

Love the background diorama for Visitation Doctor and Tardis With the Android in the woods. Nice touch 😉

  • Dalek Commander

    September 29th, 2020 - 8:23am

I want to throw in a random comment. Given the situation this year the Who merchandise has been very good. Especially figures from CO and Eaglemoss. With 3 months to go we may even get a few more suprises.

    • JL

      September 28th, 2020 - 10:45pm

I don’t want to sound rude, but every year every wave has had some sort of follow up with only slight tweaks:
The 2018 summer sets got tweaks for an early 2019 release
The Summer 2019 big finish sets got repaints for release early 2020
This wave is repaints/tweaks of the 2020 summer sets, the only difference being that we’re still in 2020

I’m sure character do these repaints to justify the new tooling they’re blessing us with and to ensure the longevity of the main event summer b&m releases and if anything, a lot of these repaints are nicer than the originals we got in July imo. I don’t understand why people are so upset with this wave, they’re not forcing you to buy them and the output this year is the best we’ve seen in a while

    • Dalekpigslave

      September 29th, 2020 - 1:11am

Talk about entitled, be thankful that we even have these amazing sets,

      These new sets look amazing

    • Philip Shaw

      September 29th, 2020 - 8:52am

I’m only disappointed that we haven’t got Hartnell, C.Baker, McCoy & McGann TARDIS Sets. Otherwise they are doing a marvellous job on the resources available in difficult times.

    • bryan

      September 29th, 2020 - 1:49pm

Hi Phillip. We got a William Hartnell 1st Doctor in Tardis (flight control) July 2010 if my searching was right.

eye watering prices now though, so 1st Doctor in Astrakan Hat would be welcome. Doubt they would do the Dr and Tardis pack again. Which is a shame. Also a 7th Dr Dark coat & Tardis Again 2010

    • Philip Shaw

      September 29th, 2020 - 3:05pm

I can’t see them issuing friends of the 4th Dr, friends of the 13th Dr, and more Unit Bentons next time. Hopefully not another Davison TARDIS set either. Next 2 Dalek sets Power and Evil are welcome though.
Any ideas what could be coming next year?

    • Philip Shaw

      September 29th, 2020 - 3:09pm

Some monsters would be nice after all the companions. Cybermen especially. Have they got moulds to re use?

  • Noble Warrior

    September 28th, 2020 - 9:46pm

For me, another wave to get excited about and to add to my collection. (Loving the Zygon set).
Thank you to all involved. 😉

Like everyone else on their dream sets, mine is The Jago, Litefoot and Leela Talons set.

Or the “If Only The Rights Can Be Sorted” a Peter Cushing Dr.Who and Tardis… I know, pipe dream. 😉

  • John Tandy

    September 28th, 2020 - 9:31pm

Never thought I see the day when Doctor Who figures were unveiled by Gordon Ramsey.

  • Erato

    September 28th, 2020 - 7:03pm

A bit annoying when you think about it that they’ve done a great headsculpt for the ‘Zygon’ Baker figure but they didn’t (or couldn’t at the time time) do a deerstalker one for the ‘Talons’ figure. I put a Dr Constantine brown walking cane with my Talons figure which worked perfectly but he’s still nothing without the deerstalker hat.

  • Dalek Min

    September 28th, 2020 - 5:45pm

It seems like they are doing 1 set per story, but I would really like weapon variants of Daleks that appeared in The Chase and Power of The Daleks, like the Dalek with the satellite disc and scoop

    • Doctorus

      September 28th, 2020 - 6:19pm

That’s exactly what I was thinking!

    • Dalek Commander

      September 29th, 2020 - 8:16am

I was thinking the same thing. Dalek weapon variants I feel would sell really well. Plus if sold as a two pack of one weapons variant Dalek and one standard one from each story I think this would cover new weapons moulds cost.

  • Phantomsidious

    September 28th, 2020 - 3:42pm

Don’t see the point of these video presentations, you can’t even see the figures very well, plus we’ve already seen the pics, better if he showed the pictures he had on his monitor with a voiceover instead

    • booboo

      September 28th, 2020 - 3:53pm

People like to see and hear from the person who’s behind it all, plenty look forward to it.

You should get a bigger telly, Phantasm.

  • the ergon

    September 28th, 2020 - 3:06pm

I,m so glad Al used the word ‘approximate’ for the Sarah Jane figure, but it would have been a better figure had we been able to see the full Jumper. I suppose its all down to whats essentially doable as he explained the 11th hour change from Castrovalva to The visitation for the TARDIS set. I,m sold on a few of them. Unfortunately the face on the davison figure doesn,t look as natural as the earlier character versions

  • Ryan

    September 28th, 2020 - 2:28pm

The figures behind Al are interesting. A Kill the Moon Twelfth Doctor and a few existing figures. They probably don’t indicate anything, but I’m sure a re-release of K1 wouldn’t go amiss for many, though, especially if we got a jacketless Doctor from Season 12.

As an aside, I love the sheer variety of the promo images in these videos. I wish Character would release more of them in their marketing materials, especially the “action” poses.

    • Bobby Davros

      September 28th, 2020 - 5:06pm

Rerelease of K1 could be the next online exclusive.

The collect ‘n’ build Vespiform is ridiculously rare!

  • Anonymous

    September 28th, 2020 - 1:20pm

Hey, do you have any idea why the shoulders on the Daleks are so light this time around as the colour from last wave was so much better?

    • Mark

      September 28th, 2020 - 6:34pm

Why was none the set down south not fair .

  • Bob James

    September 28th, 2020 - 1:18pm

I’m very grateful for these, but my excitement at the “leaked” news of a Twelfth Doctor and Davros set still has me hoping we’ll get that soon.

  • prototype dalek

    September 28th, 2020 - 1:18pm

Interesting that in the background is the K1 Robot, Supreme Dalek from Resurrection of the Daleks, UNIT Soldier, 4th Doctor, what seems like Clara from the Toys R Us range and the 12th Doctor in spacesuit. Curious to know what is for display and what, if any, is a future release.

  • Danny

    September 27th, 2020 - 10:21pm

Would have made sense to keep the Brigadier and remove Yates in the UNIT set and use the head with a cap as he wears the same outfit in Zygons he wore in the Daemons which has been released before… the generic UNIT soldier is good though for “army” building…

    • the ergon

      September 28th, 2020 - 7:48am

Which is fine if you don,t mind an army of Yates clones.

    • Bobby Davros

      September 28th, 2020 - 5:08pm

If you army build this you’re going to end up with a load of 4th Doctor clones.

    • The Werewolf

      September 28th, 2020 - 6:50pm

Well, there are probably some people who only want Zygons Tom so maybe you could sell all those?

    • the ergon

      September 29th, 2020 - 1:17pm

I,m going to wait for the price to drop for that set unless someone sells a single tom but since this is the incentive to buy this set, if there are individual spares, i,m imagining a surge in sales of Benton and yates and most likely without sub machine guns.

    • the ergon

      September 29th, 2020 - 3:06pm

Thats on Ebay by the way.
