Video Now Live – Six New Character Doctor Who Collectors’ Sets

Following on from the summer’s B&M release, Character Options is delighted to announce a brand new wave of Doctor Who action figure sets for autumn2020. The new collection will be available in the UK on shelf in B&M stores from early October.

Sales in the US will begin mid-October via The Official North America Doctor Who Store, and Amazon. This exciting launch will introduce six brand new Action Figure Sets-an all new look for the Friends of the Thirteenth Doctor set, a new Companions of the Third and Fourth Doctors set, a very special U.N.I.T set, plus a Fifth Doctor & TARDIS set. Rounding up the release will be two more History of the Daleks Sets which chart their chronological TV appearances.

Each and every set of this detailed series will include highly detailed 5.5 inch scale figures featuring multiple points of articulation and come presented in the now well established ‘classic’ Doctor Who packaging.

The sets in detail:

The Companions of the Third & Fourth Doctor set features new figures of Sarah and Romana 1 and 2 and spans the dates April 1974 to December 1979. This set includes Sarah Jane Smith in her outfit from 1974’s ‘Monster of Peladon’ story, Romana 1 in her outfit from December 1978’s ‘The Power of Kroll’ story and Romana 2 in her red outfit from the story ‘The Horns of Nimon’.

Staying with the ‘companion’ theme, is the Friends of the Thirteenth Doctor set with updated figures of companions Yasmin (Yaz) Khan, Graham O’Brien and Ryan Sinclair. These, most recent companions all feature in a brand new set of outfits inspired by their on screen adventures.

For many collectors, the arrival of the1971 U.N.I.T Claws of Axos Set can’t be bettered but with the addition of the 1975U.N.I.T Terror of the Zygons Set, Character Options has added what is possibly the most anticipated and eagerly awaited variant of the Fourth Doctor to the mix; decked out in his fetching tartan scarf and Tam ‘O’ Shanter hat. The set is completed by the addition of Sergeant John Benton, this time in camouflage fatigues and an additional U.N.I.T trooper, both with Sterling SMG machine guns as seen in the timeless 1975 story battling the shape shifting Zygons.

Next up is the updated release of the Fifth Doctor and TARDIS Set featuring detailing from February 1982’s ‘The Visitation’. The set comprises a crisp moulding of the Fifth Doctor with his floppy hat, while the TARDIS comes in a pristine blue livery.

Finally,Character Options is to release the next two History of the Daleks Sets.“The Daleks’ Collector Set Number 3 comprises of a Twin Dalek Set and features the Daleks as seen fully in in 1965’s ‘The Chase’.

This set features one of the ‘guest’ Daleks brought in from the Doctor Who and the Daleks film which appear in the Dalek Control room sequences of Episode 3 and one of the Standard silver drone Daleks.

Additionally, “The Daleks’ Collector Set Number 4 features two Daleks as seen in The Dalek Master Plan from 1966. This set features the attractive Black Dalek with Grey shoulders, a silver neck bin and silver solar struts alongside one of the Silver Drones seen in the jungle sequences clearing foliage with a flame thrower device.

Al Dewar, Character Options’ Creative Director, said. “This is another first for the Doctor Who line and good new sfor the fans in what has been a difficult year. We are delighted therefore to announce this full second wave of figures being released which has comes in addition to our recent Internet exclusive. “We were determined to give the fans something exciting and again hopefully we have genuinely surprised them with the new additions that have been coupled with some of our previous released figures. The inclusion of a new Fourth Doctor, Sarah and Romana 1 will hopefully surprise everyone in what is an astounding number of new figures this year and hopefully we will continue to exceed the expectations of fans and collectors alike.”

1 thing to put to CO and B&M, these sets are the start of some people’s collections and getting new people to collect keeps the line going. You have to start giving the doctors their accessories. As a cost cutting measure I understand it but each accessory is a big part of each doctors character. It would really get under my skin loving the classics as I do if the only 7th Dr you can buy to start your collection has no umbrella, the umbrella is part of the 7th Dr. Selling a 4th doctor without his sonic is like leaving the scarf off to save money.
Darth Vader figures always have lightsabers, Harry potter figures have wands so give Tom his sonic.
I would like to know off new collectors what they think of the lack of Sonics and umbrellas with these releases.

      September 27th, 2020 - 10:01pm

you do know that in the classic years the sonic was not that important not used very much why does every doctor have to come with it???? personally i dont like accerriores they just get lost unless you glue them on the sonic has become to main stream it can even fry an egg haha

    • Slitheen71

      September 27th, 2020 - 10:42pm

The sonic was very important to the 4th Dr. He even broke the 4th wall in the invasion of time to tell the audience ” not even the sonic screwdriver will get me out of this”. I agree that it became an over used device and so did the shows producer and that was why it was destroyed in the 5th Dr story The Visitation . The story the new Dr and Tardis collectors set is based on, so for people who do know it would have been good to have it included in this set.
” I feel like you’ve just killed an old friend !”
Fair point about there easy to lose though.

I lost 8 out of 11 of them

Romana II had her own sonic screwdriver in ‘The Horns of Nimon’. I agree they should have put one similar with this figure.

      September 29th, 2020 - 7:25pm

I forgot about that, yes that would be great to have. If I remember it was like a thin metal rod with some green stripes on it. Could use a classic sonic and paint it silver with the stripes painted on. It wouldn’t be 100% but would give us a representation of it.

Really enjoying these B&M releases this year. A shame the two waves are closer together than originally planned as it may cause some issues with stock in stores but hopefully they sell well still. As mentioned by others, some redistribution would work wonders.

I got the 13th and 4th companions sets from the first wave so will probably skip this wave. The UNIT set was better in the first wave so may pick that up if reduced in due course, unfortunately the face of the Tom in this set just looks weird. Although, if the better in person effect takes hold I may change my mind. The Romana I outfit is better this time around but the first one is fine and the Sarah Jane and Romana II were better so I’m happy there.

I may get tempted by the 13th companions again though. I don’t have a Graham yet and this variant looks nicer than the single carded release. Would likely sell the Yaz from this set and one of the Ryans (not sure which one) if I did that though so may not bother and wait and see if another Graham is released down the line.

With so many new head sculpts in the B&M sets this year, Booboo has said it was 7 which is fantastic, here’s hoping the trend continues. I’d love to see a “Renegade Timelords” 3 pack with a re-release Anthony Ainley Master with the Rani and Meddling Monk included. I think that’d be possible as they seem to favour the ‘human’ characters in these new sculpts for obvious reasons.

I’m sure we’ll have a 5th companions set coming as well. Most likely Adric, Nyssa and Tegan. Although I’d prefer an Adric, Nyssa and Turlough set. Then Tegan can go into an online exclusive range of companion/monster 2 packs where I’d love to see a Jamie/Yeti, Liz/Silurian, Tegan/Mara and Clara/NIS Cyberman released. We can only dream!

Love the new sets, especially the new Romana I, Fourth Doctor, Ryan and Graham!! Still hoping for Liz Shaw one day to complete UNIT

  • The Werewolf

    September 27th, 2020 - 2:21am

Since I haven’t given my full thoughts on these yet I think I will do so, but I would like to preface my thoughts with a couple things. One, I am initially disappointed with the lack of the Capaldi/Davros and Ace sets but I’m also a little relieved on the last one because I just bought a loose Ace for 25. Still haven’t tracked down a hoodie wearing Capaldi yet.

The other thing is that at roughly the time these sets were announced I finally went to my local B&M and picked up both the Thirteenth set and UNIT set, as well as another Daleks set 1 and a TARDIS, and I bought the last one partly because I still haven’t gotten any beside the Thirteenth TARDIS earlier this year and partly because it’s the first time my local B&M has ever gotten any TARDIS sets. The reason this needed to be said is because aside from Dalek set 1, there was loads of pretty much all of the sets left, which going of past experience means it won’t be getting any of the new ‘tweaked’ sets in. Unless they recall the sets or something.

So in the order they appear on this page, the Companions of the Third & Fourth Doctor, well Romana 1 is a lot better than the first one so if I did get this set I’d sell the Romana 1 from the first set. I’m also pleased by the Sarah Jane, not because I think the figure looks great but because it’d be good to have a Sarah to go next to Jon as well as ones next to Tom and David. Romama 2 doesn’t look as good as the first one but is still a nice figure. But here is the rub, I did not really want to buy variants of companions, it was only recently that I started to do so with Doctors, and this set is the exact same 3 characters as last time. I would have preferred to have these in sets with other figures even if they were just straight up re-releases.

The Friends of the Thirteenth set has a similar issue with the variants, even though the Ryan and Graham are slightly better than the first ones, the first Yaz looks better. Of course if you were to take the 2nd Ryan and Graham and the first Yaz you’d have basically the same costumes as the Eaglemoss set which is tempting, even though part of the reason I justify having both is that I approach the two collections in different ways. So I think I would probably only get this set and the first set if they were a little reduced, which is unlikely as I don’t think they will show up at many B&M stores, though I may cave at some point.

The Zygons UNIT set is a must have, mostly for the fantastic Tom figure and I’m starring to be a sucker for one off costumes for a Doctor especially him. I bought the 1970s set with Talons Tom from Amazon mostly for a Talons Tom and even tracked down a complete set of the first Classic Who figures partially just to get Magnus Greel and Mr Sin to go with him. And this time I already have a couple of Zygons so all set. The UNIT grunt is a nice touch even if it is using Yates face sculpt. And I think that Benton looks better than the first, slightly.

The Fifth Doctor and TARDIS set looks good and I don’t have a hatted Davison figure so I wouldn’t say no to that, and I missed out on the Androzani one anyway thanks to my B&M not getting any pre-2020 TARDIS sets.

I hope to get 2 of Dalek Set 3, and sell off my FX ‘guest’ Guard Dalek, then I can have 2 odd these as well as Mechanus, and thanks to having 2 normal Mark 3 Daleks in the Chase set with Mechanoid I can have 2 with Bill and 2 with Pat.

Daleks set 4 is a funny one for me, its exactly what I predicted would be in the set and it’s well, I don’t have a flamethrower Dalek and haven’t been able to track down that Enemies of the Firdt Doctor set so I want to buy this set just for that, but i didn’t really want to by a second Mark 3 Supreme Dalek as i still have the one that came with Bill in the Toys R Us pack. I know this one is a better sculpt, a d partially because of that, and partly because I may put a Supreme with Pat too since they will never release the Evil Emperor.

what body have they used for romana 1?

Sarah Jane from Revenge of the Slitheen

One thing (probably been pointed out) with Benton in the Zygon set, by Robot he became a Warrant Officer, no longer a Sergeant. Should of painted the correct insignia on his jacket.

different, will post them as soon as the stock lands

I hope now that we are getting more and more new sculpts, we’re en route to the 2nd doctor in his fur coat with the prototype already existing, maybe with a companion and a villain… even if it’s an existing villain like a tomb cyberman

    • Slitheen71

      September 27th, 2020 - 12:49pm

I hope the second Dr in the fur coat and a yeti will come as a character exclusive. Both figures have prototypes and is a set that would easily sell as quick as the jungles of mechanus. This ensures future releases.
It would command a higher price tag and that is why we probably haven’t seen them in the B&M range. Now character know the online exclusive can work this could be a possibility.

  • Craig Dutton

    September 25th, 2020 - 12:53pm

I really wish CO would do something with the first doctor. It’s the only figure I haven’t got in any shape or form. The cost of existing ones are ridiculous even loose ones (which I don’t collect.) Thankfully have all the rest including the war doctor. Anyone else dying to see a release of any particular figure on their wish list or is this going off topic?

    • Slitheen71

      September 25th, 2020 - 2:22pm

I really want the cyber leader from the next Doctor. Could not afford the build a figure collection at the time but all the others have been released in other sets including the cyber controller.
I always thought the B&M set with the cyber controller and attack cybermen would have been perfect for his re- release instead of a sontaran.

    • Reginaldo Bisarello

      September 25th, 2020 - 4:21pm

I got that Cyber Leader about 2 months ago in a 10 figure bundle for 20 quid. Absolute bargain

    • Mad Psientist

      September 26th, 2020 - 8:48am

I’ve been really lucky as two of my most wished for figures (Zygon and Talons Four) are now a reality, but I really, REALLY want a Peter Cushing Doctor, even more so after the Mechanism Dalek release. His Doctor’s still a legit possible future incarnation AFAIC.

    • Mad Psientist

      September 26th, 2020 - 8:50am

      *Mechanism* Dalek release. Zarking autocorrect…

    • The Outcast

      September 26th, 2020 - 11:39am

They can’t make Dr Who though, because that’s part of a separate license. The only reason we could get the Movie Daleks was because they actually appeared in the program.

As for re-releases, really just after Daleks, but some other monsters, such as Sea Devils, Axons, Krynoids, the Fendahl, the K1 robot, Scaroth and generally Monster figures, although I’d like to see the Unearthly Child 1st Doctor get reissued.

    • Mad Psientist

      September 27th, 2020 - 12:07pm

Yep, I know, Studio Canal has the movie rights, but as booboo suggested on the MECHANUS (finally!) thread it would be great if CO used the revenue from that release to buy the rights to the films, thereby clearing the way to make a Cushing figure and reusing the Dalek moulds to produce the black, red and (with some tweaks) gold Daleks. Maybe a Roboman with re-use of the Shiraz Jek or humanoid Axon body. It was speculation on what we’d like rather than what’s currently pursuing possible.

    • Mad Psientist

      September 27th, 2020 - 12:09pm

Random comment. Really want an orange 13” Paradigm Dalek to finish collection off. Easy one for B and M. However I feel time may have moved on. Plus they were controversial at the time.

    • booboo

      September 25th, 2020 - 11:11am

I think so, but shame its missing though.

    • JJ

      September 25th, 2020 - 1:40pm

I really wanted the orange Paradigm Dalek and jacketless Eleventh Doctor 5 inch figure so hope they re-release it one day. Only Paradigm I’m missing. Would also love them to release the Red and Blue Chrome Paradigm Daleks which many fans prefer as part of History of the Daleks set – Asylum of the Daleks. That may be a couple of years away yet, and I am ok with that. I hope CO carry this range on and go through all different types of Daleks.

    • Anonymous

      September 26th, 2020 - 9:10pm

Never made one, custom paradigm only,do come up on ebay, that’s where I brought the set with the orange version.

      September 26th, 2020 - 9:37pm

Never was released, only way is to make it yourself or buy a custom online,I managed to buy the set on ebay with orange version and ww11 version as a job lot.

    • JJ

      September 26th, 2020 - 10:25pm

I know there is no chrome ones existing but hope they release it eventually. It’ll be a good couple of years away if they go through every Dalek story and doubt it’d cost too much on a paint job. I hope this line continues. Hoping the success leads to more new sculpts of characters/monsters.

  • Dalek Commander

    September 25th, 2020 - 10:31am

Just checking. Is there anything new with these Daleks over previous releases. I could not see anything noticeable.

    • masterdoctorten

      September 25th, 2020 - 10:35am

      Yes.
-‘The Chase’ drone and the supreme both have squinted eyes like the previous History sets.
-The three with slats have a much lighter grey, almost white shoulder section behind the slats.

    • Dalek Commander

      September 25th, 2020 - 10:53am

Thanks Masterdoctorten. I thought the paint job might be different but was not sure if it was just the quality of the image.

      September 25th, 2020 - 11:14am

Flame on flamethrower is now removable

    • masterdoctorten

      September 25th, 2020 - 12:19pm

Pat it always was removable. I think people confuse it with the DAPOL one which was one solid piece

    • OllieOz

      September 26th, 2020 - 1:39am

The Chase Drone and Flamethrower Dalek now have the correct eyestalks with fewer discs (Not Dead Planet ones) and the ‘Eggcup’ dome lights so they are slightly more accurate than the old UT versions, I’d probably also assume they’d be given the same more shiny silver paint jobs of the previous 2 B&M releases as well.

  • FigurrFan_Pierce

    September 25th, 2020 - 8:21am

LOVE the mustache on Yates, er, I mean generic soldier. Plus both Romanas look gorgeous!

  • Aiden

    September 25th, 2020 - 12:18am

These do look good but I’m unsure if I’ll get all of them this time, reason 1 is because I don’t know if my local b&ms will get them in, although they did last time 2 of them did and still have some sets left from the previous wave and the second reason is because they are mostly repaints, like I’m fine with the fourth doctor and 13th doctor companions figures I have at the moment, but I will definitely get the unit set, the fifth doctor and TARDIS and the dalek sets.

  • Jordan9364

    September 24th, 2020 - 9:52pm

I kind of wish the flamethrower Dalek didn’t have the actual plastic flame end (as fire is understandably hard to make look good), but just the attachment like the Eaglemoss figurine. Anyone agree?

    • SamWho

      September 24th, 2020 - 10:37pm

On the image of it in box the flame is not attached it’s separate so you don’t have to add it if you don’t want it this time which is good

    • Bobby Davros

      September 24th, 2020 - 10:56pm

I call him “Olympic Torchbearer Dalek”.

    • daz

      September 24th, 2020 - 10:57pm

      The flame is detachable.

In box it is seperate so it fits into same size box as previous History Sets.

Oh nice, that’s how I want to display it

  • Robert Cotterill

    September 24th, 2020 - 4:17pm

Some of these look fun! I know that the 4th Doctor looks a bit weird, but it’s a great look all the same.

In the opening episode of “Terror of the Zygons” we also see Harry in his royal blue blazer with the Doctor’s scarf around his neck (which would be a fiddle to replicate) and Sarah wearing the Doctor’s hat in a pale mint two piece (that CO could easily release as a later figure, seeing as they could use the Romana 1 figure from the previous release – the body without the shiny pink top and a minimal head sculpt…).

    • Reginaldo Bisarello

      September 24th, 2020 - 6:09pm

I love Tom but that is more than a bit weird

    • Spacewarp

      September 26th, 2020 - 4:37pm

That’s Harry Sullivan’s coat and trousers. You can tell from the folds.

    • Gareth Pugh

      September 26th, 2020 - 6:47pm

The Harry figure’s coat and legs were themselves clever repaints from the old Genesis of the Daleks set Tom Baker figure (with the duffel coat). I still think there would be possible mileage, if they can worth neck joint/peg, to doing a run of Gelth Granny’s dress in cream paint and putting the new ‘younger’ SJS head on to create a Pyramids of Mars variant

  • Slitheen71

    September 24th, 2020 - 3:15pm

These sets are great and as a collector I want them and will buy most of them. My big fear is getting my hands on them, 3 B&M waves in 1 year maybe a step to far. I’m not worried about scalpers or the money but more that the store managers won’t stock them because their Dr who shelves are still full. In my 2 local stores the shelves are full with a mix of a few of last year’s 3 figure sets, big finish sets repainted from February and sets from August. In a toy aisle that has limited space for all the different ranges they stock why would a manger getting ready for Christmas order a good quantity of these figures.
I think these should have waited until February like before, after the stores cleared the shelves with Christmas and January sale.
I love New figures and have wanted a year of figure releases like this for such a long time. I hate to moan but I would hate to have a B&M wave fail because that might jeopardise the adventurous figure release we have been getting.

    • booboo

      September 24th, 2020 - 4:24pm

problem is they were already scheduled, you cant have £10’000s of stock lying around, the previous sets should have been here much much earlier in the year otherwise they wouldn’t have been so close togwther

    • Slitheen71

      September 24th, 2020 - 7:19pm

Your right Booboo, I agree with everything you say. My issue is to make room for this stock on some store shelves they may have to reduce the price of stock they already have which at first sounds great.
The problem is these variants usually issued a good 5 or 6 months later do well for 2 reasons.
      1. Some collectors want everything no matter how small the difference.
      2. Collectors who missed out on the original release.
It seems a little bit of a recipe for disaster if the first release of Sarah, Romana 1 & Romana 2 is on sale for 10 or 5 pounds next to the new set for 19.99. You can buy Graham still on Amazon for 8.99, if the friends and foes of the 13th is half price you could get the fam and a Judoon for less than this new set.
I hope I’m wrong and this wave is an incredible success.

    • booboo

      September 24th, 2020 - 7:23pm

stock seems to void in some areas and piled high in others, a bit of redistribution would work wonders

    • Mad Psientist

I tend to have the opposite problem, there’ll be *some* delivered to my nearest store but I’ll need to get them sharpish before they run out. It must be nice sometimes to wander into the shop weeks after the initial release to see the shelves still groaning with these sets.

But yes, a little redistribution would go a long way, would ensure better overall sales and minimise scalper opportunism. Maybe a ‘click and collect ‘ option before they’re sent out from central warehousing to determine regional demand? I dunno.

I know B&M’s ‘thing’ is that they want footfall in the stores but it might be more productive (and more responsible given current conditions) if the footfall was people just coming in the once and actually *buying* something when they’re there. I don’t know about anyone else, but I rarely if ever buy anything else if I go in looking for these sets and they’re not in stock. Nobody benefits from that scenario.

I wouldn’t say obsessed. The History Of the Daleks sets are 1 per story for the standard release. So there’s a lot more to come from B&M.

The CO exclusive Mechanus set is seperate to this and although from The Chase it really was done to give us fans the movie daleks we’ve always wanted.

Be interesting to see if CO do an exclusive Cyberman pack next.

Whilst I am over the moon at what seems to be a steady stream of new releases, I am somewhat underwhelmed….

Another 4th Doctor? Another 5th Doctor & TARDIS? Yet more re-releases of old Daleks?

What about a 1st Doctor & TARDIS…or even 6th and 7th & TARDIS? I am beginning to feel we’ll never get those ones again. The 6th is the only one of the classic series to have never had his TARDIS released.

I kind of agree with the fith Doctor and tardis but Toms outfit is one fans have wanted to for years and the history of the daleks sets are for those who missed out.

A 1st Dr with TARDIS would be welcome. Ian is easy to do, so is Barbara with a SJA body, ie the dress and cardie would be ideal. Even a Ben and Polly with a 10th planet Cyberman!

Don’t forget the 8th Doctor in terms of never having had a TARDIS released.
I agree though, it does seem odd that we get another 5th Doctor TARDIS set so soon after the ‘Androzani’ set, whilst the 1st, 6th, 7th and 8th Doctors have yet to have a B&M TARDIS set released.

You only have to look on ebay to see the £100+ prices that the original releases of the 1st and 7th Doctor TARDIS sets go for, so there is clearly a demand for those to be reissued.

Let’s hope that next year’s releases readdress the balance in terms of Doctors 1, 6, 7 & 8.

I’d like to see some 1st Doctor based sets next year, as there’s not really been much in terms of him. 6 has gotten some figures from his era released, though 6 himself is apparently too expensive to put in the B&M sets, which is why we’ve not got him in one (though surely a Real Time version would be affordable to reissue, the paint apps on that one are a lot more simplistic).

As for set ideas, you could do the 1st Doctor and TARDIS from the War Machines, and a 1st Doctor companions pack, Ian would be easy to do, and I’m sure they could probably find suitable base figures for Barbara and Susan. It’d be lovely to have a full 1st Doctor era TARDIS team. Outside of that, no much I can think of doing, most villains from the era would require lots of new tooling, unachievable in B&M sets.

The 6th Doctor Tardis is indistinguishable from the Caves of Androzani one though. You could use that for 6 and the new one for 5.

I think a voord and sensorite could be made using a claws of axos axon man body if they retooled the lower legs and gave them a new head

A suited body could be used for a daffodil man from terror of the autons

The 3 doctors Brigadier could use a new wraparound with new head and hands for a kerblam man

11th doctor figure from the snowmen for whispermen

These are some of my favourite ideas for making new villains

Those complaining no 1st Doctor era sets, what do you think the first 4 History sets and the exclusive are!
I agree we need an actual 1st Doc though.

I find it interesting that the Chase Dalek Guard has a blue gun. Any reason why this might be, I wonder? That’s not a complaint, I love the look of it, I’m just curious! 😀 Sadly I must live in the only part of the country that doesn’t have a local B&M lol. Plus I have no money after the Mechanus sets…. xD

I live in Morecambe with a B&M and 5 miles away Lancaster with a larger B&M and neither have any figures in at all…ever. I have to go to Preston and Blackpool.

It’s great that they are able to adapt figures to accommodate new head skills. If anyone is listening, can I suggest another one for the future . A Zoe head and scalf on an Amy Pond Pandorica figure. I think someone suggested her Jump suit on a Primevil character. This way, with my suggestion, there will be two Zoe varients.

For Victoria, The Unquiet Dead body and one of Jo Grant’s for her funky clothes in Web Of Fear.

Jamie, Micky smith in a polo neck body, Roman soldier from the waist down even Ben could have a political neck Micky body repainted into that polo neck and V neck jumper combo he sported in 10th planet.

Amy is about 6 foot and Zoe about 5 foot nothing so that would look ludicrous.

There is already several instances of ‘artistic license’ being taken with character height and build (re-use of other figures to create new further extending this) so I don’t see that would be seen as a restriction.

  • Ryan

    September 24th, 2020 - 11:18am

I quite like these sets, they’re nice and different. And I’ve been holding off on the Graham figure because I’d been hoping they’d do a variant in his brown jacket; that seems more iconic to me.

I prefer the look of Ryan over the original release, as the trouser colour makes the figure pop a little. I think I’ll be buying the Thirteenth Doctor set and selling on the Yaz and the Ryan from the previous set.

The Fourth Doctor figure is great. I think he does look a little cartoon like, but I’m sure he’ll be better “in the flesh”, as they say. I still haven’t got the original UNIT set yet, so I’ll have to rectify that one before it goes out of stock and sell on the two figures in the Zygon version.

I prefer the Romana I in this set, but perhaps not enough to buy the new one and try to get shot of the other figures.

Reading back I sound like I’m hit and miss with the sets! I’m not, but I have preferences on the variants and that’s par for the course with sets like this, opposed to single carded figures. The Dalek sets are lovely, though have no appeal to me, and the TARDIS set looks great and I’m happy for those that missed out on the once highly sought Fifth Doctor variant.

    Good stuff Character and B&M!

Ho ho, more figures to chase, and what a wonderful wave! Good to see UNIT expanded, a must-have Sarah, and must-have-must-have-must-have Tom variant! The really exciting thing is the rate of releases – galloping towards the 70s and 80s Daleks, I wonder what surprises are in store?

    September 24th, 2020 - 11:09am

B&M have always been budget sets, you are never going to get all brand new tooling in these. A few years ago they were nothing but re-releases and slight variants, this year you have 7 brand new head sculpts, yes 7, some of which people have been crying out for for years.

    5th Doctor and Tardis: Beautiful

Tartan Tom and UNIT Squadies: Wonderful

    4th Doctor Companion Variants: Delightful

Daleks and 13th Doctor Friends: I either already have or not interested, but I am so glad people who want these are getting what they want.

As the 9th Doctor might say: Everybody WINS!

Yes even the people who dont like any of the sets win as they dont have to buy anything.

But that’s what these “2nd Batch sets” have been every time they have done them, before you got Clara with a belt removed, and Tom with different boots, now you are getting complete new variants.
