Video Now Live – Six New Character Doctor Who Collectors’ Sets

Following on from the summer’s B&M release, Character Options is delighted to announce a brand new wave of Doctor Who action figure sets for autumn2020. The new collection will be available in the UK on shelf in B&M stores from early October.

Sales in the US will begin mid-October via The Official North America Doctor Who Store, and Amazon. This exciting launch will introduce six brand new Action Figure Sets-an all new look for the Friends of the Thirteenth Doctor set, a new Companions of the Third and Fourth Doctors set, a very special U.N.I.T set, plus a Fifth Doctor & TARDIS set. Rounding up the release will be two more History of the Daleks Sets which chart their chronological TV appearances.

Each and every set of this detailed series will include highly detailed 5.5 inch scale figures featuring multiple points of articulation and come presented in the now well established ‘classic’ Doctor Who packaging.

The sets in detail:

The Companions of the Third & Fourth Doctor set features new figures of Sarah and Romana 1 and 2 and spans the dates April 1974 to December 1979. This set includes Sarah Jane Smith in her outfit from 1974’s ‘Monster of Peladon’ story, Romana 1 in her outfit from December 1978’s ‘The Power of Kroll’ story and Romana 2 in her red outfit from the story ‘The Horns of Nimon’.

Staying with the ‘companion’ theme, is the Friends of the Thirteenth Doctor set with updated figures of companions Yasmin (Yaz) Khan, Graham O’Brien and Ryan Sinclair. These, most recent companions all feature in a brand new set of outfits inspired by their on screen adventures.

For many collectors, the arrival of the1971 U.N.I.T Claws of Axos Set can’t be bettered but with the addition of the 1975U.N.I.T Terror of the Zygons Set, Character Options has added what is possibly the most anticipated and eagerly awaited variant of the Fourth Doctor to the mix; decked out in his fetching tartan scarf and Tam ‘O’ Shanter hat. The set is completed by the addition of Sergeant John Benton, this time in camouflage fatigues and an additional U.N.I.T trooper, both with Sterling SMG machine guns as seen in the timeless 1975 story battling the shape shifting Zygons.

Next up is the updated release of the Fifth Doctor and TARDIS Set featuring detailing from February 1982’s ‘The Visitation’. The set comprises a crisp moulding of the Fifth Doctor with his floppy hat, while the TARDIS comes in a pristine blue livery.

Finally,Character Options is to release the next two History of the Daleks Sets.“The Daleks’ Collector Set Number 3 comprises of a Twin Dalek Set and features the Daleks as seen fully in in 1965’s ‘The Chase’.

This set features one of the ‘guest’ Daleks brought in from the Doctor Who and the Daleks film which appear in the Dalek Control room sequences of Episode 3 and one of the Standard silver drone Daleks.

Additionally, “The Daleks’ Collector Set Number 4 features two Daleks as seen in The Dalek Master Plan from 1966. This set features the attractive Black Dalek with Grey shoulders, a silver neck bin and silver solar struts alongside one of the Silver Drones seen in the jungle sequences clearing foliage with a flame thrower device.

Al Dewar, Character Options’ Creative Director, said. “This is another first for the Doctor Who line and good new sfor the fans in what has been a difficult year. We are delighted therefore to announce this full second wave of figures being released which has comes in addition to our recent Internet exclusive. “We were determined to give the fans something exciting and again hopefully we have genuinely surprised them with the new additions that have been coupled with some of our previous released figures. The inclusion of a new Fourth Doctor, Sarah and Romana 1 will hopefully surprise everyone in what is an astounding number of new figures this year and hopefully we will continue to exceed the expectations of fans and collectors alike.”

Ahahahahaha!! THE CHASE GUARD DALEK AND THE TARTAN FOURTH DOCTOR!! Exactly the two figures I was speculating/hoping for when this wave was first announced! Oh yes!

I am cautiously optimistic about finding these sets without too much difficulty after the summer rollout, but I’m really hoping that the “early October” release schedule is another “Yeah, right, sure” announcement from Character ‘cos I’m not going to have funds in place for these until the middle of the month. Must haves are the Zygon, COT3/4D and 1st DALEK sets (I think the new Romana 1 figure does Mary justice a lot better than the previous one), I can… live without the 2nd Dalek set (is that sacrilege?) if finances dictate, and though that 5th TARDIS set is nice, they do start to take up space quickly if you leave them in the packaging (although I really wish I hadn’t missed the SHARDIS with that distinctive blue lamp).

I think we’ll probably be looking at a very different, somewhat muted Christmas this year, all things considered, but it’ll be nice to get new Who figure sets on the shelves in the run-up. It’s 2009 all over again, baby!

I shall now go for a nice lie down in a darkened room.

Will defo pick up 1 of each of these sets. Shame they didn’t do the daleks with the different attachments as would have brought more of them!

Loving the two Dalek sets and the Terror of the Zygons three pack. Definite pick ups.

My local store still has loads of the previous sets remaining and i haven’t bought the ones from those i want yet except the TARDIS.

I was hoping they might drop in price.

We have already had a Fifth Doctor with a Tardis. Couldn’t we have had a Sixth Doctor with red tie alongside a Tardis, with a Trial scene backdrop instead. It’s long overdue.

    Hmmm…
That Fourth doctor face sculpt makes me cringe.
I am not one for repaints and Ryan’s legs are the only things to change on him, so I will pick up Unit 1975 anyway and Castrovalva, along with Master plan and possibly The chase

I defiantly want the fifth Doctors Tardis without the mud, I made a sixth Doctor Tardis from the ones we got last time but I fancy a (easy no painting involved) non mud 5th Doctor version too.
I have however just bought the 5th Doctor with hat on eBay, I didn’t pay too much so it’s okay!
I just don’t have the space for repeat characters with new paint jobs however, but they do look nice.

Glad to see another younger Sarah. I think that missed an opportunity to have planet of the Spiders varient by using a striped paint job on the SJSA figure that came with K9 and adding the younger head.

Rather than Yeats with a ‘tash, it’s a shame that Harry in a blue jacket (fom an auton) or lab coat wasnt added instead. Cant get enough of Harry!

I don’t wanna sound an ungrateful sod cos these are brill! But surely they could have hints used a school reunion Sarah Jane instead of a repaint!

They literally put new legs on the figure though. So it’s not just a repaint. It’s got new tooling.

Its funny how both the romana figures have mirrored each other in both sets

Set 1: pink top Romana, pink coat Romana
Set 2: Red top Romana, Red coat Romana

Wow, even more figures! xD AND THE CHASE GUARD DALEK! :O I always loved that design and always wanted one!

      September 23rd, 2020 - 11:01pm

It has the imperial dalek gun, a blue eyestalk pivot, darker eye rings and that teal silver used on the “jungles of mechanus” daleks also on the sucker too. The chest section on the silver daleks is lighter and the eyestalk on the black supreme is actually the silver eyestalk the chase variant. So subtle changes which is nice. Makes the originals a bit more valuable. I’ve got the original guard dalek and there are definite changes like the blue on the dome being metallic like on the mechanus daleks.

Now we can take off the base and make this 100% accurate!

I love all the doctor who things that B&M kickout but, it does frustrate me that there is no online way of buying these, which means I’m reliant on ebay! Having said that, these are all brilliant with nice variations for stories that have not been covered before.

Have they mixed figure parts on the SJS, Romana1

    • SJF

      September 23rd, 2020 - 8:08pm

Romana I is just a Sarah Jane from revenge of the Slitheen but with a new head and pvc dress piece.

Sarah Jane on the other hand, is mixing parts. It’s the same top half as the Genesis Sarah (Combat Martha body and new head) but the legs are from one of the SJA figures. Not sure which one, either the Revenge one or the Graske one. Presumably they’ve had to make new tooling to fit those parts together.

Agreed. Yet more variants and repackaged Daleks. Love to see something like Kraals, Vogons, Mutt, Quark ect…. Getting bored of the ‘Doctors’ , endless variants and repackaged Daleks. Loved the superb ‘The Chase’ Daleks last month but its back to the same old routine.

    • booboo

      September 23rd, 2020 - 5:37pm

you are never going to get those in these sets and quite frankly everyone should know that by now.

You might get those in online exclusives at £25 with all profits going to CO moving forward, but not in B&M £20 budget sets that they probably only pay a few pounds for.

    September 23rd, 2020 - 5:05pm

Really excited for the 2 companion sets, the daleks I think I may give a miss as the only difference is the dome lights being corrected (I’ll live), uming and arring about the tardis set and may get bygones for that 4th doctor, both romanas are gorgeous though it would have been nice if they’d used Sarah’s school reunion body for either her time warrior or planet of the spiders stripy outfit, but I’m not complaining – it’s nice to have another companion variant this time for the 3rd doctor and tardis set we got earlier in the year!

If they can use some new sculpting on these figures, I’d love to see a Ben and Polly from the tenth planet using new wrap around on a Mickey Smith and 3 doctors jo grant figure, though I think you could do Polly from the faceless ones using the claws Jo grant figure. I think these companions would be really lovely to do first for 60s as they were our first transition companions and could be posed with both the 1st and 2nd doctors, being in tenth planet/ power costumes (though obvs would love Ian, Barbara and Susan too)

Jumpsuit Zoe possibly using an original Martha Jones body?

When will you get the product codes Booboo? If theres spare stock from the last waves on shelves, i need to be specific because staff occasionally go by whats in and i don,t want them saying they have Dalek or companion sets in, if its from their first stock.

Just had what I think is a good idea for future CO sets. History Of The Cybermen sets. Each set would be a 2 pack of the same Cyberman, good sets for army builders. And future sets can feature variants like Cyber Leaders with black heads/”ears.” Of course, CO will run into a problem when they get to The Wheel In Space, as they would have to make a whole new mold for that one. And they could reuse The Tomb Of The Cybermen Cyberman for The Moonbase one, although there are technically slight differences between the two.
