Video Now Live – Six New Character Doctor Who Collectors’ Sets

Following on from the summer’s B&M release, Character Options is delighted to announce a brand new wave of Doctor Who action figure sets for autumn2020. The new collection will be available in the UK on shelf in B&M stores from early October.

Sales in the US will begin mid-October via The Official North America Doctor Who Store, and Amazon. This exciting launch will introduce six brand new Action Figure Sets-an all new look for the Friends of the Thirteenth Doctor set, a new Companions of the Third and Fourth Doctors set, a very special U.N.I.T set, plus a Fifth Doctor & TARDIS set. Rounding up the release will be two more History of the Daleks Sets which chart their chronological TV appearances.

Each and every set of this detailed series will include highly detailed 5.5 inch scale figures featuring multiple points of articulation and come presented in the now well established ‘classic’ Doctor Who packaging.

The sets in detail:

The Companions of the Third & Fourth Doctor set features new figures of Sarah and Romana 1 and 2 and spans the dates April 1974 to December 1979. This set includes Sarah Jane Smith in her outfit from 1974’s ‘Monster of Peladon’ story, Romana 1 in her outfit from December 1978’s ‘The Power of Kroll’ story and Romana 2 in her red outfit from the story ‘The Horns of Nimon’.

Staying with the ‘companion’ theme, is the Friends of the Thirteenth Doctor set with updated figures of companions Yasmin (Yaz) Khan, Graham O’Brien and Ryan Sinclair. These, most recent companions all feature in a brand new set of outfits inspired by their on screen adventures.

For many collectors, the arrival of the1971 U.N.I.T Claws of Axos Set can’t be bettered but with the addition of the 1975U.N.I.T Terror of the Zygons Set, Character Options has added what is possibly the most anticipated and eagerly awaited variant of the Fourth Doctor to the mix; decked out in his fetching tartan scarf and Tam ‘O’ Shanter hat. The set is completed by the addition of Sergeant John Benton, this time in camouflage fatigues and an additional U.N.I.T trooper, both with Sterling SMG machine guns as seen in the timeless 1975 story battling the shape shifting Zygons.

Next up is the updated release of the Fifth Doctor and TARDIS Set featuring detailing from February 1982’s ‘The Visitation’. The set comprises a crisp moulding of the Fifth Doctor with his floppy hat, while the TARDIS comes in a pristine blue livery.

Finally,Character Options is to release the next two History of the Daleks Sets.“The Daleks’ Collector Set Number 3 comprises of a Twin Dalek Set and features the Daleks as seen fully in in 1965’s ‘The Chase’.

This set features one of the ‘guest’ Daleks brought in from the Doctor Who and the Daleks film which appear in the Dalek Control room sequences of Episode 3 and one of the Standard silver drone Daleks.

Additionally, “The Daleks’ Collector Set Number 4 features two Daleks as seen in The Dalek Master Plan from 1966. This set features the attractive Black Dalek with Grey shoulders, a silver neck bin and silver solar struts alongside one of the Silver Drones seen in the jungle sequences clearing foliage with a flame thrower device.

Al Dewar, Character Options’ Creative Director, said. “This is another first for the Doctor Who line and good new sfor the fans in what has been a difficult year. We are delighted therefore to announce this full second wave of figures being released which has comes in addition to our recent Internet exclusive. “We were determined to give the fans something exciting and again hopefully we have genuinely surprised them with the new additions that have been coupled with some of our previous released figures. The inclusion of a new Fourth Doctor, Sarah and Romana 1 will hopefully surprise everyone in what is an astounding number of new figures this year and hopefully we will continue to exceed the expectations of fans and collectors alike.”

Awesome sets! I will definitely be getting the Daleks. Just out interest, does anyone know what the base figure for Romana I is?

    • Anonymous

      September 23rd, 2020 - 6:17pm

Some kind of base (probably a clara base) with a new “wrap” over it and SJA legs

    • Anonymous

      September 23rd, 2020 - 8:20pm

It’s an SJA Sarah Jane Smith figure, the one that came with the baby Slitheen. And a new head/dress.

You know what? I’m a sucker; I really am. I already own all the Daleks being offered here, with The Chase movie Dalek being the SFX one in my collection. But, I’m still going to get those 2 new History Of Daleks sets. 🙂

And, technically, this Chase movie Dalek is a variant/new as it will most likely not feature the SFX electronics.

Paint and parts are slightly different too, the imperial dalek gun used and the teal silver as well as the metallic blue.

Guess we can take off the base and make it 100% accurate, a baseless assumption!

Sadly, I’m not that impressed with these, the biggest disappointment seems the Zygons set which just doesn’t do anything for me, but if others are happy then all well and good.

I think the history of the Daleks sets are releasing in the order that they appeared in the series, the daleks should get more interesting as more sets are released.

  • whovian

    September 23rd, 2020 - 3:47pm

I haven’t even managed to get the most recent figure sets as all the B&M stores I can get to haven’t had any new stocks arrive other than “Peppa Pig, “Paw Patrol” and “Frozen 2” items

If the History of the Daleks sets are going to be released in order of appearance I am going to take an educated prediction at what we might get next.

-Power of the Daleks, (Not really sure what could be included, perhaps a Dalek without its gun otheriwse two standard silver daleks)

-Evil of the Daleks (Black dome emperor guard and one of the Daleks infected with the human factor0

-Day of the Daleks (Grey Dalek and Gold Supreme)

-Planet of the Daleks (Grey Dalek and partially invisible Dalek or the Supreme)

-Death to the Daleks (One silver and grey Dalek and the leader Dalek with the yellow lights)

-Genesis of the Daleks (Two Daleks or perhaps one of them could be the Dalek Prime)

-Destiny of the Daleks ( One Grey Dalek and a suicide Dalek)

-Resurrection of the Daleks (Grey Dalek and Black and White Supreme Dalek)

-Revalation of the Daleks (Skaro Dalek and Necros Dalek)

-Remembrance of the Daleks (Interesting as it could be two separate sets with one consisting of an Imperial and Renagade Dalek and the other being the Supreme and Special Weapons Dalek)

-Dalek (Metaltron Dalek and Regenerated Dalek)

    • Anonymous

      September 23rd, 2020 - 4:28pm

Great list! I’m hoping the genesis set will come with one genesis dalek and one genesis (Michael Wisher) Davros.
I don’t think it is too much of a stretch since they are “History of the Daleks” sets, and Davros is a pretty significant part of their history.

    • JonVic

      September 23rd, 2020 - 6:19pm

I agree, really hoping we see Davros figures as the old sets go for ridiculous money these days.

    • Bobby Davros

      September 23rd, 2020 - 6:39pm

I think they’ll skip Power of the Daleks as there is nothing new they can really offer.

    • JL

      September 23rd, 2020 - 9:18pm

I’m holding out hope for Rusty lol (online exclusive maybe if they could upscale the cad from the 3.75 figure)

    • David Minter

      September 24th, 2020 - 1:50am

They could probably do some Power Of The Daleks sets. I was thinking they could eke out 2, actually. One set would be a Power Dalek without the gun, like was done in the Toys R Us Genesis Dalek and 4th Doctor set, and regular Power Dalek with gun. The 2nd set would be the mutant scoop and the electric shock thingie. All that would require is some minor retooling to create new arm molds for the scoop and shocker. Even if they don’t do the 2nd set idea, the first is really easy to do, with no new molds needed. They already exist.

    • The Werewolf

      September 24th, 2020 - 9:20am

I think if they do 2 for Remembrance it is more likely that one set will have a normal Renegade Dalek and the Renegade Supreme, and the other will have a normal Imperial Dalek and the Special Weapons Dalek. I know most would prefer your way as it would be better for army building but I don’t think it would be done that way. I also don’t think there will be any Davros in these sets.
I will say it is possible that a mutant scoop Dalem ends up in the Power set, and that it’s possible that the Planet set has the Supreme and the partially invisible Dalek and no normal one. I think Parting of the ways could be an Imperial Guard and an Assault Dalek.

The Classic Companion set is worth it for that Romana 1 alone. So much better than the first one we got this year. Super excited for the 5th doctor tardis set, never got a 5th doctor with hat figure.

  • Mr Fish

    September 23rd, 2020 - 3:38pm

Love these! Think I’ll probably get them all again. My only concern is that B&M is gonna have to shift the previous wave very quickly!

  • Doctor Stu

    September 23rd, 2020 - 3:38pm

I’ll pass on all of these, wait for next years hopefully there’ll be a few new things here and there

  • MJS

    September 23rd, 2020 - 3:33pm

Well these are lovely! The companion sets are a must for me, as is the UNIT Zygon set, and the 5th Doctor (my fave) and Tardis

  • Anonymous

    September 23rd, 2020 - 3:17pm

I’m gonna be getting all these sets but the companion sets because I love them all but I just don’t want the companion sets

  • Mike

    September 23rd, 2020 - 3:08pm

These are pretty good, and far more compelling than the usual late-year tweaked waves. The Classic companions and Daleks look great.

Wonder what happened to the Ace set. Was always ‘subject to change’ though…

    • booboo

      September 23rd, 2020 - 3:14pm

I think we might still be getting those later

  • Anonymous

    September 23rd, 2020 - 3:04pm

Looking forward to all of these. Although I think all 4 daleks are re-releases but gret for those that didn’t get them first time round.

    Set 3
Dalek 1 originally released in The Chase set
Dalek 2 originally released as part of the Electronic Sound FX wave (I assume this is non SFX)

    Set 4
Dalek 1 originally released in Enemies of the First Doctor set
Dalek 2 originally released in TRU First Doctor & Dalek set

  • Chris Howarth

    September 23rd, 2020 - 3:01pm

An imaginative if unessential batch of do-overs, but ooh look Tom’s got a new hat!

Can I justify buying the Zygons set?… We’re deep within Malibu Stacy territory now!

I mean, do I need a mustachioed UNIT random? Not really, but when all’s said and done Tom’s got a new hat… And scarf.

    Sold.

    • Bryan Of Morbius

      September 24th, 2020 - 12:01am

‘Terror Of The Head Sculpts’ – Potentially the worst Tom head sculpt if the photos are anything to go by but otherwise a welcome addition along with the sub machine guns.

  • Anonymous

    September 23rd, 2020 - 2:53pm

    Amazing!

Does anyone know what the difference is between this TARDIS model and the version released with the 7th doctor back in 2010. Does this one have more of a grubby look?

Also, the Fifth Doctor – again, what is the difference between this and the Master Twin back version released in 2010. Is the jumper white rather than cream?

    • Anonymous

      September 23rd, 2020 - 2:57pm

The Master-Doctor twin pack was a very limited supply so it’s probably just for those who missed out on the original to have an opportunity to get it.

  • Anonymous

    September 23rd, 2020 - 2:50pm

Slightly underwhelmed by these to be honest. They are very expensive when you collect them all and aside from costumes, they are mostly figures we’ve seen before and slightly unecciscary. We had the last batch a few weeks ago and don’t really see why these are needed.

    • booboo

      September 23rd, 2020 - 2:57pm

the original batch was due much much earlier in the year but because of covid its all got bunched up, nothing anyone can do about that, these are much better “tweeks” than has happened before which is essentially what these are but i agree its a shame things have have had to come so close together.

    • Anonymous

      September 23rd, 2020 - 3:06pm

Ah I see. That makes alot more sense now. I get why they had to release. I thought it was a bit odd timing. Thanks for the clarification .

  • Bob James

    September 23rd, 2020 - 2:49pm

The Companions of the Third & Fourth Doctor, and the Terror Of The Zygons sets? Yes, I’m in. The Visitation Fifth Doctor and Tardis set, not so much. It’s just not different enough form the last Fifth Doctor and Tardis COA set. For Doctor/Tardis sets my dream would be a NOTD Eighth Doctor/Tardis set that could easily have the War Doctor included. Or Seventh, Tenth, or Twelfth Doctor/Tardis sets. We haven’t seen any of those released in a prior form yet. Companions? I hold out hope for Ian, Barbara, and Susan. And also Tegan and Nyssa. These would have been unthinkable not too long ago, but now? Perhaps a possibility.

  • Phantomsidious

    September 23rd, 2020 - 2:47pm

I think o prefer the previous wave we had, some good stuff here, the fourth doctor more so and the Romanas, the 13 doctor companions an extremely easy skip for me again, daleks are OK, the Yates figure with a moustache being dubbed as a unit solider is very lazy and a variant of Sarah Jane or harry from that story would have suited much better

    • Bob James

      September 23rd, 2020 - 3:05pm

I agree that Harry or Sarah figures would have been a much better choice for the Zygons set. In my previous comment on a NOTD Eighth Doctor/Tardis set with War Doctor, I forgot to suggest that a younger Sir John Hurt variant would be nice too.

    • Bobby Davros

      September 23rd, 2020 - 6:41pm

They could have included a Zygon instead of that fake tash Yates.

  • daz

    September 23rd, 2020 - 2:37pm

With the repaints do B&M order in less quantities than the first batch?

Or is it the same amount?

I’m only interested in the Tardis as think it was used by 4th, 5th and 6th Doctors. Already own 7th one.

  • Whovian4Ever

    September 23rd, 2020 - 2:07pm

Wow! Very excited for all this new great stuff! Cannot wait for all of that! Character Options are treating us Whovians very, very well this year and for that I, for one, am incredibly grateful!

  • Jamie

    September 23rd, 2020 - 2:04pm

Some very nice new variants and some surprising new stuff! The new version of Romana 1 is superb! Really nice to see Zygons 4th Doctor. His face looks off but I imagine it will look better in person, that’s usually the case!

    • funkadelicish

      September 23rd, 2020 - 2:14pm

Looks like the older Tom face from the Curator figure. Very odd!

    • Jamie

      September 23rd, 2020 - 2:25pm

Hmm I don’t see the resemblance to the Curator head myself.

    • Luck4UNow

      September 23rd, 2020 - 6:33pm

I wonder if the Zygons Tom needed a permanent alteration to the head mould. So instead of sacrificing future S12-S17 Toms (hatted or unhatted), they sacrificed the Curator mould instead.

Not a bad trade-off, if true

  • Anonymous

    September 23rd, 2020 - 1:59pm

Is that Mike Yates with a moustache?
I guess he snuck back into UNIT.

    • the ergon

      September 23rd, 2020 - 2:32pm

That was a bit cheeky to have include him disguised as u.n.i.t trooper. Who were they trying to kid? LOL

    • the ergon

      September 23rd, 2020 - 3:27pm

Mike yates’ ‘ mostachioed disguise’ is as convincing as Anthony ainleys disguise as Sir gilles Estram.

    • Bryan of Morbius

      September 24th, 2020 - 10:52am

Yes, the comedy tache is a bit naff, for a random ‘red shirt’ UNIT trooper they should have changed the paint job to black for his hair and changed eyebrows and eye colour as well at least. I’m assuming there are no stripes on the jacket so you could repaint or pop the head and replace with maybe a Primeval figure’s for further army building. Is the beret separate or head sculpted?

  • prototype dalek

    September 23rd, 2020 - 1:53pm

Cetainly will be buying most of these, especially the daleks

  • Jordan9364

    September 23rd, 2020 - 1:37pm

Wow, I made a predictions list for the History of the Daleks sets some weeks ago, and they’re exactly correct!

    No brig in Kilt :’(
In all seriousness, I’m looking forward to this.

  • the ergon

    September 23rd, 2020 - 1:33pm

Now they are more achievable with those head sculpts. I,d like next to see Sarah Jane in her Iconic Sontaran Experiment/ Planet of the spiders outfits. Romana 1 in her stones of blood clothes with Burberry cap and Romana 2 in her Meglos or warriors Gate gear. we do need Adric , Nyssa and Tegan next year.

    • daz

      September 23rd, 2020 - 1:54pm

I can see them doing Sarah along with another Harry for a Sontaran set next year.

    • the ergon

      September 23rd, 2020 - 2:20pm

Now seeing the images they should have left the sarah jane figure jacket unbuttoned and been able to see her in that 70s jumper. I,too was expecting something better from the ‘terror of the zygons set, the Brigadier omission was a mistake, unless he turns up kilt and all with a zygon later down the line, but has mostly varied rereleases they are fine.

    • the ergon

      September 23rd, 2020 - 4:25pm

I,ve decided. I,ll buy HOTD sets 3 and 4, Companions of the fourth, Wait for prices to descend (and i mean by half price) for Terror set and 13th companions and forget the TARDIS set. Already own 2 5th with hat as it is.

What happened to the 12th Doctor and Ace sets

    • DrXshock

      September 23rd, 2020 - 1:39pm

I have a feeling they will be online exclusives like the movie daleks

    • daz

      September 23rd, 2020 - 1:59pm

Can’t see them being online exclusives as not unique enough but will appear in next b&m wave.

I imagine they will do some unreleased Cybermen for the next one.

I’d like online exclusive featuring Wilf at some point though.

    • mick

      September 23rd, 2020 - 2:19pm

to follow later in the year, still being sold by b&m

    • TheWHOlegacy

      September 23rd, 2020 - 2:29pm

I’d hope the 2 online exclusive sets are twin packs of NIS cyberman with cyber warrior and New series Zygon with New series ice warrior

Nice – Be buying all of these! Any word yet on the Ace/Dalek Pack or 12th/Davros?

  • bryan

    September 23rd, 2020 - 1:24pm

WOW. Did not expect new Sarah and Romana figures so soon. I was going to adapt Romana II pink into Horns of nimon. would love Sarah in Spiders top with Hanging Spider 🙂 And I imagine everyone wants Romana 1 in Ribos Robe, and Tara, both difficult ones I know.
    Wonderful. News

oh my Aching Wallet. Worried about the Covid situation and Physical shopping, in general and personally. I imagine many are.

  • the ergon

    September 23rd, 2020 - 1:21pm

This is so exciting. You were right about the Fourth doctor in Tam o shanter Booboo although given the story i guess was to be expected. The Romana set and Dalek sets are are a definite must buy, so pleased they are reclothing existing figures like Romana and Sarah. I hope we get more variants as far as these 3 are concerned they have such a wide varied wardrobe between them. I,m hopeful for and bodes well for those 5th doctor companion sets as well. We need images now.

The paintwork on Tartan Tom Baker leaves a little to be desired to be honest.
