I’m not sure what it is but I really like the 12th doctor figure on the right. Perhaps the eyebrows need to be a little thicker or something to help with the resemblance but I love how it reflects Peter Capaldi’s apparent David Bowie element he is bringing to the character.

Really warming to these 3.75″ figures… the Capaldi in full costume looks amazing. I’m just getting a little tired of waiting for Vastra, Jenny and Strax. How many more episodes do they have to do before CO produce figures? They have become an important part of the Doctor’s family (as well as being a spin-off series begging to happen) and really need to be made. Enough with the Daleks and variants already, there’s only so many times you can release the same figure with a slightly different paint job before people get bored and stop buying.

I know most people prefer the 5 inch figure to the 3.75

but I am starting to give character credit because slowley but surely these figure are improving the wave 2 zygon figure was an obvious triumph and that was the the first sign of improvement and now we have just got the tenth doctor figure with a very good face sculpt

I know these figure are not as good as the 5 inch ones

but I have got to give them credit they are actually putting a lot of good detail on such a small figure

I hope to see more of this in the next waves

  • RexisnotyourDoctor

    July 27th, 2014 - 3:11pm

On this occasion I’m willing to give the retailer the benefit of the doubt. Unlike FP or even Toys R Us, Argos aren’t a niche seller and these new figures are just one of thousands of products they sell, in a week where they’ve had a massive update/overhaul of their total inventory. They can’t necessarily be held responsible if they list an item incorrectly because the product manufacter has revised/delayed their product late in the day.

I agree with you there, Argos are just selling Dr Who toys, it’s not their fault that Character Options have supplied them with photos of unavailable prototypes and incomplete selections.

It’s another example of Character Options lack of communication.

  • 100000BC

    July 27th, 2014 - 2:44pm

I think that the Capaldi on the right is more likely to be the released figure as the one on the left is based on the already released Capaldi and the coat from the promotional image, suggesting that it is an original prototype.
Or perhaps, it doesn’t matter either way. Who knows? Who… knows?

i wonder how many kiddies and parents are travelling to Argos to try to buy something that’s impossible to buy

lets face it the vast majority of people who buy these figures would have no idea its not actually in the available stock

    • the astronaut of death

      July 27th, 2014 - 2:59pm

if they are going to show it off in there catologe they should sell it at least

I know season 8 has not aired yet but it is not like we don’t know what they look like the

    • RexisnotyourDoctor

      July 27th, 2014 - 3:18pm

The common factor in all these situations is Character themselves, and this seems like yet another example of them being unwilling/incapable of giving customers OR retailers accurate product information until the last minute, at that. Just look at how much confusion was caused by the initial listing for the TOTD figure set. Is it one figure? Two? What, HOW MUCH??!!
So yes, very frustrating for people who’ve spent the weekend travelling to Argos stores to buy a product that isn’t even available yet, but maybe not really Argos’ fault.

    • booboo

      July 27th, 2014 - 3:22pm

That’s very true, but frustrating for the buyers who aren’t in the know.

    • The Twelfth Doctor

      July 27th, 2014 - 3:28pm

The rare variants were a good idea I think. I mean, it made walking into a toy shop exciting, thinking about if you will get a rare figure.

    • the astronaut of death

      July 27th, 2014 - 3:28pm

another thing that has annoyed me is that they have revealed it and it dose not even come out for another month and a bit

it is better when they reveal it when they are very close to the release date

    • The Twelfth Doctor

      July 27th, 2014 - 3:31pm

I agree, the astronaut of death. CO shouldn’t have sent Argos their Doctor Who section of the catalogue without noting that 12 will not be available until a later date.

    • Exterminator

      July 27th, 2014 - 3:41pm

From a customer relations point of view, the rare variants were a disaster for Character Options. Kids just couldn’t find them.

Most of the rare figures were removed straight from the boxes by the retailers in the know and ended up on eBay selling for silly money (black dalek sec £250!)

I was lucky enough to find them all but it was hard work.

    • Clayderman

      July 27th, 2014 - 5:10pm

For us, it’s probably a simple and straight forward trip to Forbidden Planet as soon as it’s released! lool, or Argos, if there’s no FP…

Such a shame TESCO doesn’t stock almost anything Doctor Who related anymore, well, not in Birmingham, at least!

    • booboo

      July 27th, 2014 - 6:01pm

      depends on where you live

the superamreks and on-line ordering have put pay to many independent toys shops – Woolworths was a big seller that’s gone as well

    • alexanderop

      July 27th, 2014 - 5:58pm

Making Capaldi a rare figure would be a terrible idea, for customers that is. The thing would be overpriced to high heaven on the aftermarket simply because it would be a variant of the 12th Doctor himself.
Also shoppers who go to look for the new DW wave at Argos won’t even get two different figures from what I’ve heard, Argos’ only stocking multiples of Tennant and so on.

The prototypes don’t have the awkward joints in the arms and usually have a lot of time spent on them in order for them to look good to any potential buyers…because the prototypes are usually just one or two examples of the figure they have the time to go into extreme detail etc: but the actual figures end up with less quality
